What I Watched Today

(rambling, random thoughts & annoyingly detailed recaps from real time TV watching)

General Hospital

In the park, Kristina says she needs a breather, and sits down on a bench. She says, if anyone asks why they stopped working out, she’s blaming it squarely on the baby. As he’s running by, Dex stops and asks if she’s okay. She says, actually, that depends on him.

Drew thanks Willow for taking the time to meet with him, and she says, that was some serious corporate speak. He says he’s sorry. She’s right. He guesses he was kind of stuck in the zone. She says, try again, and he thanks her for stopping by. She says she was happy to. It gives her a chance to tell him in person that Amelia loved her first swim lesson. He was right. He says he knew it. It makes him so happy. Amelia did well; how did mom do? She says she was nervous at first, but once she saw how comfortable Amelia was, she was fine. He says, that’s awesome, and Michael walks in. He says, Willow beat him here, and she says, amazing what running a few red lights can do. She’s kidding. She even drove the speed limit. Michael says, no one drives the speed limit. What’s with this mystery meeting? Willow says she’s never been asked to sit in on Aurora business before. Should she be scared? Drew says, no, but he hopes she’ll be excited.

John asks the MetroCourt hostess if Jason Morgan is here, but she says she’s sorry. She can’t disclose the reservations. Carly comes along and asks if she can help him with something. How’s his head? He says, it’s still attached, and she asks if he needs something. He says, since he’s staying here, he thought he’d meet the new owner of the hotel. She says, he already knows Jason, and if he’s looking for the new owner, he found her.

Anna goes to see Jason at the coffee warehouse and thanks him for meeting her. He says, of course (🍷), and she says she wants to debrief him. She thinks if they’re going to figure out who’s running Pikeman and shut them down, there’s a fair amount of things he needs to know. He says, such as? and she says, personally, she thinks Valentin is involved. He says, with Pikeman? and she says, big time.

A guard leads Nikolas to the visiting area at Pentenville, and Nikolas says, there must be some kind of mistake. The only visitor he’s had is his mother, and she was just here. The guard points to a table, and Ava says, hello, Nikolas.

In some other area of Pentenville, Valentin slams a visitor book shut, and Jack says, right this way.

Drew says he just had a meeting with a non-profit who wants them to run their PR, and Michael asks, what kind of PR are they thinking? Drew says, they want Aurora to help raise awareness for their cause by featuring them in Aurora’s publications and media, but the reason Willow is here is that they’re looking for a spokesperson. He thinks the spokesperson should be her. She says, me? and he says, she seems surprised. She says, it’s because she is. She has zero experience with non-profits, and she’s never been a spokesperson for anything. Drew says, this cause in particular, she does have experience with, and Michael says, this probably should have been his first question, but what does this non-profit do? Drew says, the New Tomorrow Institute helps people find bone marrow donors. They also coordinate umbilical cord blood donation. He thinks it’s safe to say the transplant process isn’t very well understood by the general public and this organization is really trying to change that. When they said they were looking for somebody to personalize their message, he immediately thought of her, a leukemia survivor in large part due to a bone marrow donation. She’s got the power to make a huge impact here.

Carly tells John that she shouldn’t say owner. She’s a co-owner with Olivia Quartermaine. He says, just like old times, and she says, yup. He says he’s happy for her, and she says, really? That’s not exactly the vibe she’s getting from him. He sits at the bar and says he remembers how she talked about the MetroCourt. He thought she loved running the place. She says she did… she does. He says, but he thought he also remembered her saying she thought she’d never get it back, and she says, that’s also true. He asks, what happened? Jason bought it then sold her his half? She says, he gave it to her, and John says, just handed it over? Expected nothing in return? She says, Jason doesn’t operate like that. When he does or says something, he means it. John says, that explains his side, and she says, but not hers. He says, she doesn’t strike him as someone who would accept a gift like that. She seems to value her independence too much. Is he off base? She says, no. He’s spot on.

Anna says, she, Valentin, and Jack Brennan all came up in the WSB together, and Jason asks if she’s saying Valentin was an agent. She says, a desk agent. He didn’t know that? They all went through the WSB training courses at the same time. Jack Brennan finished at the top of the class, which is what she’d intended to do, but she wound up second. She thinks it was sexism at work, but who knows? Valentin was close at the top. It’s kind of like going through university together. You know people, but you don’t know them very well. Brennan was always a bit of a pragmatist. She’s almost positive that he stole the money that was used to seed Pikeman. Jason asks where Valentin fits in, and she says, if you asked him, nowhere. However, when Pikeman initially approached Sonny to handle the shipment, Valentin was the go-between. He says it’s because he did contract work for them back in the 90s and there are no other ties… He says, but she doesn’t buy it, and she says, no. He asks if she pushed him on it, and she says, push him? No. She doesn’t think he believes she’s suspicious of him anyway. The subject she probed on was Brennan. Jason says, and? and she says, it was really interesting. Valentin thinks he convinced her that she was remembering wrong, that he and Brennan weren’t tight like she believed. It was the 80s – it was a while back – but she did some thinking. She knows she’s right. She knows Brennan and Valentin were thick as thieves back then. He says, so Valentin’s hiding something, and she says she’s almost certain at times. At other times, she thinks she’s being a bit paranoid. She goes back and forth. He says, that’s not like her, and she says she has to be honest with him. When it comes to Valentin, her judgement is a bit compromised.

Jack takes Valentin to an office, and Valentin says, look at him. Trusted status. He’s really moving around the place. Jack says, let’s not go crazy, and Valentin says, he’s moving about with no guards present. He’s impressed. Jack says, it is a perk. How about him? Valentin found a reason to visit Pentenville that has nothing to do with him and doesn’t require a midnight van trip. Cheers. Valentin guesses they all have their moments, and Jack says, what they don’t have is a whole lot of time. What’s happening with Corinthos? Adjusting to life on reduced medication? Valentin says, looks that way. Sonny’s isolated from his closest friends and family. The only one he trusts is Ava Jerome.

Ava says she heard Nikolas is being transferred and she wanted to see him before that happened. How is he? He says, incarcerated, and she says, besides that. He says he’s all right. Resigned to his fate he supposes. It helps that nothing is waiting for him on the outside. And her? She says she’s doing well, and he says, that’s it? She asks if he expects more, and he says his mother told him that she was living with Sonny. He’d be lying if he said he wasn’t the least bit curious. What’s going on there? She says, it started as a safety precaution after the break-in at Windymere, and he says he’s never known her to be afraid of the dark. She says she does have a daughter to protect, and he says, a daughter she shares with Sonny. She said it started as a safety precaution. What is it now? She wonders why she’s discussing this with him, and he says, because he’s safe. Trapped in here with nothing to gain. She says, or trapped in here with nothing to lose, and he says, there’s always something to lose, and they both learned that the hard way. She says her relationship with Sonny has evolved, and he says, for the worse? For the better? She says, it’s the best it’s ever been.

Dex asks what Kristina needs. He can give her a ride to GH or call someone for her. She says she’s fine. The baby was just kicking up a storm. He says, good, and she says she’s actually glad she ran into him. Well, he’s running, she’s not, but he gets the point. He says he does. What’s up? She says she’s a straight shooter, so she’s just going to come out and ask him. Josslyn told her that her dad ordered him to kill Cyrus. That’s not true, is it?

Ava says, this thing between her and Sonny… Nikolas says, is toxic? And she tells him that she was going to say, hard to define. But it’s working. Recent betrayals have left Sonny feeling hurt and alone, and he needs somebody he can trust. They support each other. They rely on each other. He asks if she’s in love with Sonny Corinthos, and she says, no. Why? Is he jealous? He says, always, and she says, does she find him attractive? Yes, and she’s not saying her feelings won’t change in the future, but for now, she’s just happy to be on the same side. He says, must be nice for Avery, and she says, it is. Honestly, she’s never seen Avery so happy. She’s got both her parents. They’re all living together under the same roof and she’s loving it. She remembers always skating on such thin ice with Sonny, always being this close to a custody battle. It’s such a relief not to be constantly bracing for that. He says, makes sense, and she asks why he says it like that. Like he’s not completely sold. He says he’s sold. He gets that she likes not fighting with Sonny and that it’s healthy for Avery and blah-blah-blah, but that’s not the part she gets off on the most. She says, do tell, and he says, she likes being in the inner sanctum, in Sonny’s coveted circle of trust, the one he leans on, the one he confides in, the one he believes. She says, damn right she does.

Carly says she’s had other offers throughout the year, and John says, other people wanting to buy her back her half of the hotel. She says, yeah. Sonny, her son Michael, even Nina Reeves offered to sell it back to her in the name of peace. That’s what she said. He says he guesses she wasn’t feeling that peaceful toward Nina Reeves, and she says, no. He says, and the ex-husband he gathers, but why not accept the offer from her son? She says, because she doesn’t want to expose Michael to scrutiny from the SEC. Not that they would find anything, but she didn’t want to put him through that kind of an investigation. It was bad enough when it happened to her. She’s guessing he already knows all about this, and he says, just because he’s FBI doesn’t mean he’s familiar with every federal charge ever filed. She says, but he is familiar with that one, and he says, yeah. She says, so he knows the ending, right? She messed up and lost her hotel. She was going to do everything in her power to get it back on her terms. He says, that just brings him back to his original question. She wasn’t able to accept charity, for lack of a better term, from Sonny or Nina or Michael. How was she able to accept it from Jason? She says, because taking her hotel back wasn’t for her. It was for him.

Jack says, Sonny’s on one quarter of his bipolar medication and no one has any idea. He’s got to hand it to Valentin. His strategy is simple, effective, hard to detect. If this were a project back when they were trainees, they’d steal his idea and put it in a textbook. However, they have a bigger, more pressing problem than Sonny. Valentin says, Jason Morgan, also known as Alan Jacobs, spent years at Pikeman, therefore knows too much. Jack says he’s sure by now Valentin has gone back through his file and double-checked the screening process. How did Morgan get a job at Pikeman in the first place, who messed up, and where. Valentin says, the short answer is, no one messed up because Alan Jacobs history checks out. The supporting documents, his outstanding record of military service, everything seems legitimate. Someone went to a lot of trouble to put Jason Morgan in Pikeman, someone capable of manipulating government records. Jack says, could be a business rival. There are a couple of other security firms with that kind of check. Valentin says, so sabotage Pikeman from within and steal their clients? and Jack says, it’s plausible. Except for Morgan himself. Why would he take the job? What was his incentive? Valentin says, Jason has always had blind faith in Sonny Corinthos. It’s kind of a defining character trait. Jack asks, what would make him disappear on Sonny? and Valentin says, not money. He was born a Quartermaine. Jack says, so if Morgan wasn’t paid to infiltrate Pikeman, what if he was coerced? Valentin says, who could coerce a man like that? Who could deliver flawless credentials? Jack says, the answer has three letters, and the question is, which ones?

Drew says, Willow’s is such an important story and thank goodness it has a happy ending. He hopes she’ll consider coming on board. She says, wow. She… Michael says, Willow is a private person. She may not want to share her story with the world, even if it is for a worthy cause. Drew says he completely understands. Not that he wants to pressure her. He definitely doesn’t want her to feel uncomfortable in any way. Willow says, no. She knows that, and she’s so honored he thought of her. He says, she’s the only person he thought of, and she asks if she can get back to him. She promises she won’t take too long. He tells her, absolutely. Take as much time as she needs. She says she does value her privacy, but the fact is, her life was saved by her Great Aunt Leisl and her bone marrow donation, and she’ll be eternally grateful for that gift. It allowed her to be a mother to her children and a wife to her husband. She wants to increase the odds of that happening for everyone. Nina breezes in, saying, they have a problem… She sees Michael and Willow, and stops.

Dex says he doesn’t think they should talk about that, and Kristina says, my God, it is true. He says, yeah, and she says she’s so sorry. He says, she’s not responsible for her father, and she says, no, but she feels so stupid and naïve. She knows her dad worked outside the law, but she never thought he’d put Dex in that position. He says, if it makes her feel any better, it surprised him too, and she wonders if she can ask him another question. He says, sure, and she says, in the time that he worked for her dad, has he seemed different in the end than he was at the beginning? She knows that’s vague… He says he gets what she means. Yeah. Towards the end, Sonny was more volatile or could fly off the handle. She says, paranoid? and he says, yeah. After the attack in Puerto Rico, he was convinced there was traitor inside his organization. It didn’t take Sonny long to decide it was him, and after that, there was no changing his mind. She says, so it was after the shooting in Puerto Rico, and Dex says, he’d always been volatile, but that’s when it flipped to paranoia. She says, when Ava moved in, and Josslyn walks up. She asks Kristina if there’s something wrong.

Carly says, Jason thinks she wouldn’t have lost the hotel to begin with if he’d been here, and John asks if she agrees. She says, probably. It’s not Jason’s fault. Something was obviously keeping him away. He’s been through something. He says, Jason told her that? but she says, no. She could see it in his eyes. Now that he’s home, there’s so much he can’t get back or make up for, but this hotel is the one thing he could fix. He says, so she swallowed her pride and let him, and she says, don’t get her wrong. She’s thrilled to have the hotel back, but she wouldn’t have accepted it from anyone else. He says, she took it from Jason for him, and she says, yeah. And she’d do it again. He tells her to enjoy her hotel, and she tells him to enjoy his stay, and leaves.

Anna says her defenses were up because she thought someone was targeting her, and Jason says, somebody was targeting her. She says, not that night though. When she got back to the apartment, she could see someone had opened the door. She entered and there was a figure standing there in the dark, rifling through her things. And they turned toward her with something in their hand and she fired. He says, she did what her instincts were telling her to do, and she says, he wouldn’t have done that. He says, she doesn’t know that, but she says she does. He wouldn’t have entered an apartment that was dark and fired at a target he couldn’t see clearly. He says he wasn’t there. It’s impossible to say what would or wouldn’t have happened. You just can’t. She says, it’s really hard for her to accept that happened, and every time it flashes in her mind, she just tried to block it out. She shot a child. He says he’s sorry. She says, he should feel sorry for Charlotte, and he says he feels sorry for her too. It had to be tough to live through that. He’s really glad Charlotte’s okay. She says her too. She doesn’t know what she would have done if Charlotte hadn’t made it. Anyway, what she’s saying is, it’s impossible for her to look at Valentin and not think about his daughter. To her, he’s a father first and a person of interest second. In which case, she thinks she’s putting this entire investigation at risk.

Jack tells Valentin that he fears they’ve caught the interest of a government agency. The FBI, the CIA, NSA. The only one they can be sure it’s not, is the WSB. They don’t want to investigate Pikeman. They want to keep it running just as it has for decades. Valentin asks if he thinks the CIA put Jason in Pikeman, and Jack says he thinks they’d have to be idiots not to consider that possibility. And Morgan’s perfect. He’s got the right skillset, but he’s not an agent. If they hadn’t had the blind good luck to assign Morgan to an op in his own hometown, they’d never have caught on to him. Valentin says, he thinks that’s good luck? and Jack says, it’s only good if you know how to play it. Now another intelligence firm is coming after them. Valentin says, this is going to have to be their last face to face. There can’t be anything linking him to Jack. Jack says, right, and they still have to tie off Morgan, and Valentin says he thinks they might have gotten a break there. Jason and Sonny are currently at odds. Jack asks, how bad? The scale goes from creative difference to at war. Valentin says, from Sonny’s perspective, the latter. And with him erratic and angry… Jack says, they eliminate Jason and pin it on Sonny.

Nina says she’s sorry. She didn’t know Michael and Willow were here. Willow says, it’s fine, and Michael says, they were just leaving. Willow tells Drew that she’ll get back to him with an answer as soon as possible. Drew thanks her and she thanks him for thinking of her. She and Michael leave, and Nina closes the door. She says, Willow barely said a word to her, and Drew says, because they were in the middle of a meeting. Nina asks if Drew saw her smile just a little. Maybe she could call… No. She thinks texting is more appropriate. Drew thinks she should give Willow some space, and asks, what was so important that she had to barge into his office without knocking again (pot, meet kettle)? She says, Carly is giving her a hard time about doing standard maintenance on her office. He laughs and says, really? He wonders where she got that idea from. She says, remember, they’re on the same team, and he asks, in what world is he on the same team as her? She says, the one where Carly and Jason screwed them both over. So what’s the plan? He says, for? and she says, payback.

Kristina says, everything’s fine, and Josslyn asks if she’s sure. Because things looked a little tense. Kristina says she’s fine. The baby was just kicking and… She asked Dex if what Josslyn told her about her dad was true. Josslyn was right. Josslyn says, for the record, she wishes she wasn’t, and looking back, she certainly didn’t have to tell Kristina the way she did. Kristina leaves, and Dex says he should probably get going. It was good to see her. Josslyn says, wait.

Jack tells Valentin that he needs to tread carefully and make it look convincing. Otherwise, Anna will totally be on to him. Valentin says he heard Anna came to see Jack, and Jack says, she wanted to know all about Pikeman. She seemed to think that somehow, he knew who was running the show. Valentin asks what he told her, and Jack says, that he knew nothing. Anna’s closing in. They can take precautions against whoever has Pikeman under scrutiny, but their defenses against Anna are limited. She knows them both. She knows their history. She was there when they stole the money to fund Pikeman. All she has to do is put those pieces together and she’s plenty smart enough to do that. Valentin says, she’s already come to see him to talk about Pikeman. She asked him about Jack’s involvement, and he stonewalled. Jack says, and she believed him, and Valentin says, of course (🍷). Trust him. Anna’s not going to be a problem.

Anna tells Jason that every instinct in her body is screaming that Valentin is more involved in Pikeman than he’s saying, but for the reasons she just outlined, when she questions him, she comes up empty. She thinks she’s incapable of being objective. He says, this is where he comes in? and she says, yeah. He’s good at rational thinking, yeah? That’s what she hears. She’s wondering if he can get a read on Valentin, because he’s not going to be as suspicious of Jason as he is of her. Jason says he’ll do anything he can to help her. She may not trust her own judgment, but he does, and he always will. She thanks him and says she has a lead for him. He says, great. What? She says, Dex confirmed for her that Sonny did in fact take that shipment from Pikeman. He says he’s got his own reasons to talk to Dex. He’ll follow up and see if he knows anything about Valentin. She says she’ll always be here for back-up, and he says he knows. John calls to Jason, and he and Anna come out of the office. John says, oh look, the gang’s all here. Wait. They’re missing a member. Anna says, they were just… and John says he doesn’t care what they were doing here. The investigation into Pikeman is stalled. Care to explain why?

John says, Jason’s head isn’t in the game. He’s throwing money around, buying the MetroCourt for Carly Spencer. Just because he’s back in Port Charles with access to his bank accounts doesn’t make him a free man. Jason says, understood, and John says he wants an update on Pikeman, now. Jason says, there’s nothing to report right now, and John says, listen up. Either Jason gives him a way to get him what he wants, or Carly will lose the hotel – again – because she will be up on RICO charges.

Michael and Willow go to the MetroCourt, and Carly hugs them, saying, her two favorite people. Willow says, it’s already looking so much better in here, and Carly says, she thinks? Michael says, the MetroCourt has missed her special touch, and Carly thanks him. She asks what they’re doing here. Late lunch, early dinner, drinks? They know the MetroCourt does it all. Michael says, they’re not sure just yet, and Carly says, let her know when they decide. Duty calls. She leaves, and Michael and Willow sit at the bar. Willow says, his mom looks so happy, and he agrees. He asks what she thinks about Drew’s offer, and she says she was flattered and really surprised. He says he doesn’t want her to feel pressured. They’re 100% fine if she says no. She asks if that’s what he thinks she should do.

Drew tells Nina to speak for herself. He’s not interested in payback. Carly says, since when? He really enjoyed getting even with her. Why is he letting Carly and Jason off the hook? He says, Carly and Jason didn’t send him to prison, and she says, if he hadn’t been sent away, he and Carly would have been married by the time Jason came home, and how humiliating would that have been? He says, so she actually saved him from divorce? and she says, that’s right. He asks if she wants him to thank her, but she says, what she wants right now doesn’t really require any words. She kisses him, and he steps away. She asks if it’s too much for him, and he locks the door. They get busy.

Josslyn says she owes Dex an explanation, but he says, she doesn’t owe him anything. She says, it wasn’t her place to say anything to Kristina, but at the time she was very drunk scared about what Sonny might do him, and she thought that if she told Kristina, it would help. He asks if she’s not scared anymore, and she says, no. She thinks he’s going to be just fine. Has he heard from the academy? He says, not yet, and she says she’s sure he’ll get in. He says, we’ll see, and she says, the PCPD would be lucky to have him. He asks if she really thinks so, and she says she knows so.

Ava tells Nikolas, all those years she spent with her nose pressed up against the window, on the outside looking in, despised, ridiculed by everybody in Sonny’s orbit. He says, not Nina, and she says, no, not Nina. But the collapse of Sonny and Nina was inevitable. Nina never really had a chance of understanding him. Not like she does. Because Sonny wasn’t the man Nina thought he was. Does he know what she’s really loving? She’s really tickled pink about that Carly is finally getting a taste of her own medicine. He says, now they’re getting somewhere, and she says, always looking down her nose at reprehensible, despicable Ava Jerome. Repeatedly slamming the door in her face. Guess who’s in charge of entry now? He says, her? and she says, me, and she can be the ousted traitor. She’s the trusted confident. He says, Sonny makes her feel powerful, and she says, yeah. But she’s helping him too. He says, how so? and she lowers her voice and says, Sonny’s on a quarter dose of his medication. He asks if she arranged it, but she says, no. Absolutely not. She has to find out who’s responsible. In the meantime, she knows that Sonny is vulnerable and she’s watching out for him. He asks if she’s saying she hasn’t told Sonny.

Dex says, they both know he has a lot to make up for, and Josslyn says, if she’s come off as some perfect angel, she knows that she’s not. She’s done things she’s not proud of and she doesn’t even know why she did them. She just knows they didn’t make her feel like her. Does that make sense? He says, it makes a lot of sense. There is a scale. The bad things she’s done versus the bad things he’s done. She says she’s not trying to compare. She’s just saying she knows she’s messed up too. So she shouldn’t stand in judgement of anybody else. And that includes him. She leaves.

Drew and Nina get busy all over the office.

Ava says, no, she hasn’t told Sonny, and Nikolas asks, why not? Never mind. He thinks he knows. She likes under medicated Sonny, doesn’t she? He’s receptive in a way he’s never been to her before. She says, they’re getting along very well, and he says, getting along? They’re playing house. She says, as long as she’s watching out for Sonny, what’s the downside? He says, if Sonny finds out what’s wrong and she knew, if he even suspects she had a hand in this… She says she didn’t, and he says, but she didn’t try to fix it. He’s not rational. She’s playing with big fire here. She says, he almost sounds like he cares, and he says, she knows he does. She says, yet he always underestimates her. She puts her hand on his and says she knows what she’s doing. She leaves, and he says, God, I hope so.

Willow asks if Michael doesn’t think she’d be good at it, but he says he knows she’d be amazing to whatever she put her mind to. He just doesn’t want her to feel obligated, that’s all. If she does decide to take the job, just make sure it’s what she really wants. She says, Drew told her that she could think on it, so that’s what she’s going to do, and he says, okay.

John says, Carly stays free as long as Jason does what the FBI asks of him. Are they clear? Jason sighs and says, clear. John says, good. They both know he spent years running contraband through here. He suggests Jason renew his contacts and find out how Pikeman is moving their shipments through Port Charles and when they plan to do it again. Jason goes back to his office, and John says he does what he has to in order to get the results he needs. Anna says she can tell he doesn’t like himself very much when he treats Jason like that, and he says, it doesn’t matter how any of them feel about it. What matters is, they get it done.

Valentin tells Jack not to worry. He knows how to play Anna. Jack says, he’d better be right, for her sake. He likes Anna. He always has, but the WSB has too much invested in Pikeman. If she threatens that, take a wild guess what’s going to happen to her. Valentin says, nothing is going to happen, and Jack says, Valentin wants to keep Anna safe, keep his distance. The more time he spends with Anna, the greater the risk he’ll give himself away. Valentin says, it’s all the time he has for Jack. He’s got to go. He leaves.

Tomorrow, Michael says he’ll take this one for the team; Anna says she’ll have to think about that before giving Valentin an answer; Jason talks to Dex; and Drew and Nina get interrupted.

Below Deck

Port Louis Marina. Barbie kicks Kyle out of her bunk. No chef, no breakfast, so they eat watermelon. In Kyle’s interview, he says he’s been chasing Barbie like a lost puppy this whole time, and we flash back to that. He’s not saying he always gets what he wants, but he’s pretty persistent. Everyone trickles into the crew mess, and Dylan wonders why he tried to kiss Sunny last night. We flash back to his kiss fail, and Sunny saying, they’re not doing that. Ben teases Barbie about Kyle, after Barbie asked Kyle not to mention they’re tryst to anyone. Captain Kerry says, chef incoming, and in his interview, Chef Nick says he’s been a chef for 22 years, and lost his mind a long time ago, but he’s harmless crazy. He’s not about to murder anyone. We’ll see how he feels after being on this boat a while. He says he’s from England, 40 years old, and yachting keeps him youthful. And he has no ex-wives or kids, which is probably why he looks good. He meets the captain, who tells him that Chef Anthony’s food was incredible, but his timing was not. Captain Kerry says, he’s not here to teach anyone to cook and has no room for chefzillas. The guests are arriving tomorrow, and he suggests Nick see the galley and find out what works and what doesn’t work. In Ben’s interview, he says, being on the St. David is like a stroll down Memory Lane. He and Camille were kids in love, that’s how he’d say it. We flash back to that, and he says he’s been thinking about her. Maybe part of him believes they could be great together. He posts pictures of them together on his Instagram. Barbie tells Kyle not to say anything, but he says, people aren’t stupid. I beg to differ on that, but I get what he’s saying. In Barbie’s interview, she says, it’s the one thing her dad said not to do. Even when she was married, she didn’t kiss her husband in front of her father. Okay, that’s odd. Are they Amish or something?

Sunny sees Camille on Ben’s Instagram and cries to Barbie. She says she knows they’re just sleeping together, but it’s weird. It’s hard right now. Paris says she still deserves respect. Fraser meets Nick, and in his interview, he says, Anthony struggled with time, organization, and upkeep. We flash back to that, and he says he’s hopeful they can be rid of those things. Clearly, Nick has experience. Green flags all over. Fraser wonders why Barbie wants to keep her and Kyle a secret, and the captain calls for the preference sheet meeting. Paris tells Ben that he could have told Sunny about the Instagram photos, and Barbie wants to take back her night with Kyle. The captain reads that primary Alex wants a memorable vacation for his friends. They love Instagrammable food and want to have a seafood spread with octopus nachos on the first night. They also want to go to the local chocolate factory to make their own chocolate. They want a Caribbean Christmas – speedos and Santa hats – and want a meal that ends at the stroke of midnight. Captain Kerry says, they have high expectations. I say, more like peculiar expectations. Barbie tells Fraser that she’s having an off day and feels like she’s disappointed her dad. She cries and he hugs her. Wow my dad probably would have thought there was something wrong with me if I hadn’t slept with anyone by the time I was her age.

Barbie says she feels that her dad is going to be disappointed and embarrassed of her. Everybody made it a thing, and Ben thinks it’s a joke. Fraser says, no one thinks anything. They’re all family and love her. On deck, Kyle says he wasn’t going to talk, but she made the decision. In Nick’s interview, he says, this galley is in his top three worst. He doesn’t know how no one got food poisoning. He cleans the refrigerator and tells Fraser that it was black from mold. Ben tells Kyle that he and Camille had a connection he doesn’t think he and Sunny will ever have. He’ll never understand the mind of a lady. Kyle says, you think you’ve got it, and wham. Sunny comes on deck, and Ben asks how she is. He’s sorry she was annoyed at his Instagram posts. She says, they took her off guard. She wasn’t expecting it. Ben says, it’s always something and he needs to finish the season strong. If they sleep together, they sleep together. If they don’t, they don’t. He doesn’t think they have an attachment.  He tries to take her hand, but she slips it out of his and leaves. Sunny tells Paris and Barbie that Ben told her there’s always something wrong. It’s like she’s toxic. Paris and Barbie hold her as she cries, and she says she’s working through sh*t. Paris says, he’s being a d*ckhead. Sometimes men need to take responsibility for their actions and how they make people feel, and he’s not doing that. In Paris’s interview, she says she’s learned not to sh*t where she eats. Man don’t change. Dylan listens to affirmations in his bunk. You are strong… You are intelligent… You are humble… Apparently, only the first one has stuck so far. Barbie texts Kyle and says she doesn’t know what part of this he finds funny.

Nick tells Captain Kerry that he turns up, assesses the damage, and cracks on, and the captain says he’s glad to have Nick aboard. Kyle texts Barbie that he’s not taking it as a joke, but she’s making him look like a joke. In Kyle’s interview, he says he hasn’t done anything wrong. In fact, he’s done the opposite. He’s done what he can to make her comfortable and she’s acting childish. Sunny blows off Ben and not in a good way. In Nick’s interview, he says he washed dishes and worked his way up to Michelin starred restaurants. He’s been working on yachts for 10 or 11 years. It’s a lot of pressure and you have to keep a steady head. Provisions come in, and Fraser tells Nick, don’t be shy with the cheese. Barbie says she asked Kyle to be a gentleman and she thinks his feelings are hurt. In her interview, she says she’s pissed. He knows she’s conservative. She wants to convert to orthodox. It’s not guy talk or yacht talk. He was a person she could trust, and she feels she can’t trust him now.

Ben texts Camille, and the guests arrive. They look like a possible handful. Captain Kerry welcomes them, and Fraser gives the tour. When he tells the guests that the hot tub is a prime spot for a 360 of the boat, guest Jennifer says she thought he was going to say threesome, and he says, they’ll get to that. He tells them that they have a chocolate excursion coming up after lunch, and tapas is out now. The lunch table is decorated with shells, ropes, and a miniature lighthouse. I love it. The guests tell Fraser that they all met on Instagram, and in Fraser’s interview, he says he wants to confiscate their phones. He gets that it’s their jobs, but it’s a lot. Ugh. Hell yeah. These people are obsessed already. Fraser says, it’s going to be Christmas when they get back, and Alex says his friends call him Father Holiday. In Nick’s interview, he says, octopus nachos. Having influencers on board, he guesses they take a lot of photos. Kids these days. Geez, he’s not that old. The internet has certainly been around most of his life. Fraser wonders if the chips (i.e. French fries) will be enough for eight, and the captain asks Nick if there will be any more seafood. The preference sheet said a seafood spread. Nick says, all he saw were the nachos, and in Captain Kerry’s interview, he says, here we go again. He was clear that Nick should read the preference sheets and there’s only one seafood item.

Nick says he can have scallops in five minutes. The guests applaud the nachos and take pictures before it’s served. The camera action is seriously obnoxious. The guests cheers with lamb chops, and it’s time for the excursion. Xandi is accompanying the guests, and Fraser tells her to bring him chocolates. One of the guests tells Fraser, it’s going to get weird later, and he says he can’t wait. In the taxi, one guest says she’s ready to be a MILF, but I don’t see that as happening. On the yacht, the stews get out the Christmas decorations, and in the taxi, guest Steven says he’s into Fraser. In Fraser’s interview, he says he thinks Steven is hot. The guests go to Tri Island Chocolate, where the owner tells them, this is where the magic happens. He shows them how the sausage chocolate is made, starting with the original plant pod. The guests take a million photos. Anchor is dropped and the stews decorate for Christmas. Fraser confirms that Captain Kerry is having dinner with the guests. Ben tells Kyle that he’s been thinking about his ex, and Kyle asks if he’s thinking with his d*ck or actually thinking. In Ben’s interview, he says he likes Sunny. She’s cute and fun to be around, but they don’t have a spark and you can’t force anything. He had magic with Camille and that’s what he’s after. He calls her.

Ben tells Camille that he called to see how she’s doing. Being on the St. David is like a trip down Memory Lane and he misses her. He asks what she’s up to, and she says her band got a guitar player and she’s performing in Fort Lauderdale. He says he’d love to see her, but she says she doesn’t know. She just got to town two months ago. He says he’ll catch her soon, and when they hang up, he asks, why is he such a f***ing loser? In Ben’s interview, he says, it’s a hard pill to swallow, and this is the second time. He’s got to learn from the first time. Now he knows. F***ing chicks. Yeah, it must be the chicks. It can’t possibly be him. Kyle meets the guests wearing reindeer antlers and tells them, welcome to the North Pole. In Paris’s interview, she says, it’s hot in Australia at Christmastime. Their Santa is naked. When she’s in doubt, she thinks, what would Santa do? The guests are greeted with egg nogg, and the yacht looks beautiful all Christmased up. In Fraser’s interview, he says he loved Christmas as a kid, and we see a video of him as a youngster. He says, it was such a special, wonderful time. At the bar, Steven says he’s got a thing for Fraser, and Barbie says, he’s super single and super ready. In Nick’s interview, he says, tonight’s dinner is the Feast of the Seven Fishes. Being a chef, his memory of Christmas is stress, since it’s his busiest time. He likes Halloween. He likes to get dressed up and be weird. Fraser dresses as Santa and Paris puts on an elf costume. She tells Fraser that she could cut the sexual tension between him and Steven with a knife. Kyle whines to Ben about Barbie, and in Kyle’s interview, he says he has a heart too. Captain Kerry sits with the guests for dinner, and Alex gives him a sparkly bow tie to wear. This is nothing compared to Alex’s jacket, which is green and adorned with tinsel garlands and ornaments. Fraser says, it’s a Christmas miracle. Captain Kerry says, the chef just started yesterday, and the guests tells the captain that he’s doing phenomenal. One guest asks if the captain ever had a scary moment on the yacht, and he says, when he was in Somalia, they saw a boat that shouldn’t be there. They altered course and so did the other boat, but they found out they were Somali fisherman who were worried about their traps. They’d thought it was a warship. Food porn keeps coming, and Nick says, it’s simple, but tasty. For dessert, he’s made cannoli with some chocolate from the excursion. I’m not a cannoli fan, but I’d eat this. Nick comes to the table and says he hopes they’re happy, and Alex says he loves it. The guests applaud Nick, and in the captain’s interview, he says he’s impressed with the timing and presentation. Happy captain, happy life.

Dylan listens to more affirmations, and the guests get in the hot tub. Ben corners Barbie and says, Kyle is upset and annoyed and wants to talk to her. She says she doesn’t know how Ben can get mad about her personal relationship. She’ll chat with him, and hopefully he doesn’t approach her the way Ben is. She didn’t attack him about Sunny. In Barbie’s interview, she says she doesn’t know how many times she’s seen Sunny cry. She tells Ben that she’ll talk to Kyle. Please sit the f*** down. She tells Paris that she was just bitched out by Ben. He fully attacked her, and she wonders why her personal stuff is his issue. It’s pissing her off. Kyle asks if Barbie wants to chat, and she wonders if he’s going to continue talking to everyone on the yacht. It’s disappointing. In Nick’s interview, he says, if you’re going to do it, do it with the right person. It can be awkward. The guests agree it’s the best Christmas ever, and Kyle asks Barbie if they’re okay or not okay. In his interview, he says he screwed up a little. He hopes she can see past his mistake. He apologizes for talking when she asked him not to and says he understands that she’s pissed off, but he needed to voice his opinion. She says she thought he had her back, but he played into it. In Kyle’s interview, he says he likes Barbie a lot, and it built into something he didn’t expect. He f***ed up and it sucks. He says he genuinely apologizes, and Barbie says she accepts, but she doesn’t trust him.

Next time, Nick says Paris is his third favorite stew (seems like they knew each other); sparklers on deck; guest Steven and Fraser kiss; Barbie calls her sister, who says, she knows their dad has standards and she should have thought of that before.

What I Watched Today

(rambling, random thoughts & annoyingly detailed recaps from real time TV watching)

General Hospital

From outside the stables, Tracy hears Cody saying, and that’s how you make a lasso. James says, that’s so cool, and Cody asks if he wants to see something else that’s cool. Tracy goes in to find James at the other end of the lasso, and James says, Cody lassoed him. Tracy says, what a useful skill, and Cody asks if there’s something he can help her with. She says, maybe his job. Her thoroughbred is recovering from laminitis. How’s he doing? Cody suggests they go see, but she says, no. She wants him to tell her. He’s the groom. The condition of all the horses in his care should be in his knowledge. James says, she’s being mean, and Tracy says, excuse me? James says, Cody’s friend is in the hospital. She should be nice to him.

Chase is looking at his badge when Brook walks in. She says, the nerve of some people. Not people, cops. Not all cops, but… She goes over to Chase and asks, what’s wrong? He asks what she said, and she says she just barged in here like a tsunami and he didn’t even notice. What’s going on? How bad is it? He says he saw Dante today, a few times actually, and she asks how he’s doing. He says, no change, and she hugs him.

Molly meets Alexis at the PC Grill and apologizes for being late. Alexis says she has her phone. Time means nothing. Molly says she’s drowning in cases, and Alexis says she knows the feeling. Molly says she bets that’s one thing about the law Alexis doesn’t miss, and Alexis says she misses a lot of it, but maybe not for much longer.

Natalia tells Sonny, sorry about her oversharing, but Sonny says, it’s no problem. She says, that’s kind of him. She was nervous coming in here and everything she wanted to say to Kristina. Of course (🍷) it didn’t even occur to her that Kristina’s father might be witness to it. He says he thinks she’s brave to even show up and be here just to say that to Kristina, and she says she loves her daughter. She wants to support her and it’s complicated. Parenting is so complicated. He says he can relate.

John invites Anna in, and she hands him the bottle of wine. He says he’ll bite. Why does she owe him a drink? She says, he was right, and he says he’s been wrong so much lately, he’d be glad to know where he was right. She says, about Sonny, that she was taking it easy on him. She wasn’t seeing him clearly. He says, and now? and she says, now she does.

Chase says he should have gone with Dante. There were two suspects, and Dante went after both of them. He never should have let Dante go. Brook says, but he followed procedure on Dante’s orders. It was all by the book, right? He says, yes, but that doesn’t change that Dante could die or be in a permanent coma. She says, he doesn’t know what would have happened if he’d gone after Dante. He could be in that hospital instead, or with Dante, or they could both be in the ground. He says, she’s right, but… She says, no more buts. He’s here with her right now and Dante is in the hospital, but he’s still breathing. His heart is still beating. He says, and he… She says, did his duty. He followed orders and procedures. He did his job, a job they both fought for him to get back. He says, maybe he shouldn’t… and she says, shouldn’t what? He says, be a cop anymore.

James tells Tracy, Dante is awesome. He used to live in the house where James lives now and he’s Cody’s best friend and now he’s in the hospital. And that’s why Cody’s so sad. And that’s why he’s here, to cheer him up. Tracy tells him that she has two things to say to that. One, she thinks it’s admirable that he’s showing up for Cody like that and it means he’s a really good friend. James thanks her. As for Cody’s friend Dante, she actually went to see him in the hospital today. Cody says, really? He didn’t realize they were that close. It’s generous of her. James asks if Dante is better.

Valentin finds Nina in Alexis’s office and says, she rang? Nina thanks him for coming, and he asks, where’s Alexis? He assumed she’d be here. She asks why Alexis would be here in her office at her job, and he says, it is kind of late. She says, the news doesn’t stop. She asked Alexis to meet them here, but Alexis blew her off. She said she was otherwise engaged. He says, if she needs a Cassadine so badly, he’s here. What’s the problem? She says, Alexis is trying to force her gossip columnist to quit.

Alexis says, Diane is setting things in motion for her to petition to get her law license back, and Molly asks, how? Alexis says, she’s a legal bloodhound and she found a loophole, and Molly says, one Alexis hadn’t noticed before? Alexis says, actually, she doesn’t think she was really looking before. She lied and she got caught and she took her lumps, and honestly, she wasn’t in a very good emotional place. Molly says, on a number of counts as she recalls, and Alexis says, it’s it nice they can be so accurate with each other. Diane found a number of factors she thinks will play out in her favor. Molly says, such as? and Alexis says, one, she never filed an appeal. Molly asks if she doesn’t only have 90 days to do that, and Alexis says she never had a hearing, which means she never had the opportunity to defend herself. Molly asks what her defense would have been, and Alexis says, well, Britt Westbourne and Julian were her accusers, so what defense would Molly recommend? Molly says, given their collective criminal records and personal integrity issues… Alexis says, Diane thinks those factors along with the fact her alleged perjury happened at a proceeding before the medical board, and Molly asks if that’s enough to get her an appeal. Alexis says, it’s a Hail Mary at best, but Diane filed a petition at the Court of Appeals that will hopefully allow her to file another petition with the Court of Appeals that will lead to an appeal. Molly says, wow, and picks up the menu, and Alexis asks if she has anything else to say besides wow, and Molly says, don’t do it.

Never mind the wine, that’s a bottle of whiskey Anna brought. John pours the drinks and hands Anna one, saying, to clear heads and open eyes. She says she’s going to go with the second thing, and clinks her glass against his. He says, fair enough, and they drink. He says, now that they’ve belted one back, care to share? and she says she owes him an apology. He says, an apology and a drink. This is a banner day. She says she called him out on his attitude toward Sonny, implying he was being unprofessional and making everything personal. He says, to be fair, the guy does really get under his skin. When it comes to Sonny, he hasn’t always stayed professional. She says she’s not exactly a model of that herself, and he says, how so? He hands her another drink, and she says she’s only seen Sonny the way she wants to see him. She’s made excuses for him, rationalized his unacceptable behavior… He says, she means the crimes, and she says, besides murder, racketeering, and a lifetime of felonies, he’s a model citizen. John says, such a good father, and drinks. She says, yeah. Anyway, she’s done convincing herself that he’s greater than the sum of his parts. She sees Sonny very clearly now. She knows exactly who he is.

Sonny says, Natalia’s daughter is very talented, and she says she knows and thanks him. He says he’s seen her perform a few times. It’s not his kind of music, but he can see she connects with the audience. Natalia says, she’s always been like that. The kid is just fearless, on stage and off. She thinks their girls have that in common, fearlessness. He says, Kristina can be a steamroller when she wants to be, and Natalia laughs. She says, and they’re both dreamers, and he says, absolutely. She says, a dangerous combination, being a dreamer and fearless, but in the best way. He says he knows what she means, and she says, Allison was like a little star in the making from the minute she stepped on stage. But she didn’t have a head for business, so Natalia decided to step in and be her business manager. That way, she could watch after her accounts and watch after her. Sonny says, smart move, but Nalalia says she didn’t do a very good job though. She had her nose so deep in Allison’s books and accounts, she didn’t see what that monster Linc Brown was doing to her baby girl. He says, thanks to Brook, she doesn’t have to worry about that, and she asks if he knows Brook Lynn Quartermaine. He says, her mother is his best friend, and Natalia says, Brook shouldn’t have been the one to protect her daughter. She should have paid attention and she would have known something was going on and she should have been the one to protect her. He says, she can’t act on information she doesn’t have, but she says she could have sensed it and done something to stop it. He asks if that’s why she’s controlling Blaze now.

Alexis says she thought Molly of all people would be leading the charge to support her, and Molly says, Alexis knows she thinks she’s a brilliant attorney. Alexis says she knows Molly used to think that. She’s not sure Molly thinks that right now. Molly says she grew up wanting to be Alexis. When she was in law school, even now, today in fact, she still studies Alexis’s briefs. (Insert your favorite underwear joke here.) When she doesn’t know what to do with a case, she looks to see how Alexis did it. And she follows Alexis’s lead. If this were just about the law or Alexis’s career, she’d say, go for it. She would say, there’s nobody more deserving than her. Alexis says, then why is Molly opposing her trying? and Molly says, because she likes Alexis more sober than when she’s drinking.

Nina says she landed Adrian DeWitt. Does Valentin know what a huge get that is? He says he can see, and she says, but Alexis never wanted a gossip column in the first place. It’s too low brow, which makes no sense. How can a society page, detailing the lives of the city’s economic and cultural elite be low brow? He says, that is a paradox, and she says, it is a proven fact that gossip columns increase circulation. And in a journal that prioritized negative things every, single day, the average reader finds joy and release knowing the rich and famous are suffering too. He says, never underestimate the schadenfreude of the American people, and she says, that is precisely what Alexis is doing. She sabotaged the column by postponing it until Friday. He says, and after two days, even salacious news is old, and she says, he gets it. And this – she picks up her tablet – she published an extremely biased article slamming Sonny after the shooting. He asks if there were two articles, and she says, just one. Why? He says, because he’s of the opinion Alexis and The Invader went too easy on Sonny.

Natalia says, now she sees where Kristina gets her directness, and Sonny says, and she hasn’t even met Kristina’s mother yet. She laughs, and he says he and Kristina get along great, but it wasn’t always like that. When she was a teenager, she was going through some real heavy stuff that he doesn’t want to get too specific on, but it was bad. He and her mother were way overprotective. Natalia says, so instead of being protective, they ended up trying to control her, and he says, she can guess what happened. Kristina rebelled. She lashed out, and the more they tried to rein her in, the more she spiraled out of control. Natalia says, that must have been terrifying, and he says, so it was clear to him that he had to stop trying to make decisions for her and just help her stand up so she could make the decisions for herself.

John asks, what inspired this change of heart? and Anna says, it’s nothing she can prove of course (🍷). He says, so what else is new? and she tells him, let’s just say her eyes have been forced open about Sonny and who he really is. She guesses who he’s always been. And the level of violence he’s capable of. He says, that’s great. What took her so long? Seriously, why the blind spot for Sonny? She says, he knows. He said it the other night. Sonny was there for her daughter when Stone was dying, and she was nowhere to be found.

Cody tells James that his mission is to sweep up the entire stable, and James gets to work. Tracy says, he’s taken a real shine to Cody. And Leo too. Cody says, kids love him, and Tracy asks, why? Do they think of him as a peer? He says, God help them if they think of him as a role model, and she asks how this happened. He says, James was here for his riding lessons, and she says, he gives riding lessons? He says, yes, and she says, on their horses? He says he cleared it with Monica, and she says, Monica owns the stables. The horses… He says, don’t worry. No one is riding her thoroughbred. He is sleeping better, by the way, right? She says, yes, much. Thanks. He says, about James. So James was here for his lesson, and he was going to the hospital to check up on Dante. James overheard him and he must have sounded… She says, concerned? And he says, yeah. Since then, James has been here pretty much every day, helping him out, talking. No one told him to do it. He just kind of decided. James calls for help, and they run to him.

Brook tells Chase, here’s what they’re going to do. First, they’re going to keep praying for Dante. He says, that’s all he’s been doing, and she says, her too, and they’re going to keep doing it. As for whether or not he should be a cop again, that’s easy. He says, it is? and she says, yeah. He should quit the force and revive his singing career. He says, what? and she says, think about it. Instant love from the stage. Men wishing they were him; women longing to be with him… even though they can’t be. They’ll pick up right where they left off. They’ll build his triumphant return to the stage. She’ll even let him pick out what he’s going to wear, pending approval of course (🍷). What does he say? He says he knows what she’s doing, but she says she doesn’t know what he’s talking about. He says, yes, she does, and she says, okay, she does. Is it working? He says he doesn’t want to be a singer. He wants to be what he is. What he’s supposed to be, a cop. She says, he’s a damn good one.

Anna says she’s going to bring up something that might be painful for John, and John says he’s not feeling much pain at the moment. She says, it’s Stone, and he says his brother is always with him. Speak freely. She says, when he was dying and Robin had been diagnosed with HIV, she was nowhere to be found. Her teenage daughter is losing the first great love of her life and may be facing a death sentence of her own, which was what it could be back then, and she was out in the wind. But Sonny was there. Sonny was there for her every day by her side, and Robin loved him for it. She still does. John says he hates to admit it, and he’ll never understand it, not fully, but in Stone’s eyes, Sonny was more of a brother to him than he was. It’s one of the many reasons he hates Sonny. Sorry. He’s making this about him. She was saying? She says she allowed herself, her own perception of Sonny, to be colored by Robin’s and by gratitude and all that guilt. So for years she convinced herself that Sonny was a better man than he really is. She never looked the other way though; she never could. He says he knows that, and she says, but she’s relied on him. She’s relied on Sonny sometimes and given him the benefit of the doubt. But no more. John drains his glass and asks if she’s keeping track. She says, they’re tied, and he says, the difference is, he’s already home, but she says, so is she. She’s two floors up. (Hmm… You thinking what I’m thinking?)

Natalia says, every cell of her wants to guide and protect her daughter from getting hurt, but now she feels like Natalia is the one hurting her. And she’s not wrong. Sonny says he thinks there’s nothing more important than letting their kids know they love them and support the choices they make. It’s up to them to make that clear, especially while their kids can still hear them. Kristina comes back and says, sorry that took so long. Natalia says, no worries. She and Kristina’s dad were just getting to know each other. Kristina says she’s glad they could keep each other company. She has a minute now, so is there anything else Natalia wanted to talk about?

Molly says, the last time Alexis fell off the wagon was when she was disbarred. She wasn’t sure they were going to get her back. Alexis says, and Molly thinks if it doesn’t work out, she’s going to start drinking again, and Molly says, the chances of getting this disbarment overturned is the longest of long shots. Alexis says she knows that, and Molly says, then why put herself through it?

John says he thinks it’s great, and Anna says, which bit? as she pours another drink. He says, her seeing Sonny for the slimebag he is. In fact, he hopes she nails him. She says she’s sure he wants that honor for himself, doesn’t he? and he says he gives her his solemn promise that if he finds any evidence on Sonny, he’ll pass it along to her. Because his job, as little as he likes it, is to protect the son of a bitch. She says she thinks everyone is entitled to be protected under the law, and he says, some people are more worthy than others, but Sonny is clearly a target. And for whatever reason, his life seems to be important enough that somebody has tried to end it several times, and he needs to find out why. Even if he gets to benefit by breathing a little longer. She says, he’s a better cop than she is, but he says, not today, Commissioner Devane. Not today.

Nina tells Valentin that Sonny knows she’s the publisher of The Invader. He might think she has something to do with this article. He says, if Sonny doesn’t blink at federal indictments, what makes her think he’s going to care about a bad review? She says, that’s not the point. The point is, he may jump to the conclusion that she’s trying to use the newspaper to lash out at him. Valentin says, she wants to reconcile with him, right? He knows that. She says, yes, but… and he says, if this article is going to keep that from happening, maybe her marriage isn’t worth fighting for in the first place. She says, he’s never been fond of Sonny, and he says, if Sonny wants her back or not, that article’s not going to make a bit of difference. She says, that article makes all the difference, and he asks, how? She says she can’t control what’s going on with this divorce. She thought she could at least control the newspaper. It turns out she can’t control that either. He says, here’s what he wants to know. She’s a magnificent, brilliant, resilient woman. Why on earth does she continue to torture herself with Sonny?

Alexis says, Molly is right. There is next to no chance that this will come to anything other than a bitter disappointment, and she needs to prepare for that. Molly asks, why? Why brace for impact from an ongoing train when she can just step off the tracks? Alexis says, because when Diane came to her with this strategy, she felt a rush, like she’d been zapped with a defibrillator. Her heart was beating again after it had flatlined for a really long time. And she realized the core part of her, she’d left for dead. She hoped she could get this essential part of her back. Molly says, what if that hope flatlines again? and Alexis says, then she lets it go. Molly says, will it be that easy? and Alexis says, probably not. But if there’s a chance she can go back and do what she loved the most, the thing that makes her her, and that gives her the challenges she needs, and she could be a role model again. Molly says, she’s a great role model, and Alexis says she was. And maybe she can be that again. If there’s just the smallest, tiniest, most infinitesimal chance that she could be that again, she has to try.

Brook pins Chase’s badge onto his coat and says, he’s the best kind of cop, one that tries to find the truth, rather than just pinning whatever on whoever. He actually tries to see justice done. He thanks her, and she says she was thinking about following rules and procedures, and she knows he felt bad about that. He says he still does, but she says, he shouldn’t. He’s an officer of the law, and there’s a reason why procedures exist. It’s to protect us. It’s to protect people. Chase says, that’s the idea, yeah, and she says, some people who are meant to uphold the law fly in the face of procedure to mess with and manipulate people. To try and squeeze them for information. He asks if she’s talking about anyone specific, and she says, Special Agent Cates. He barged past Yuri to interrogate Danny, who was by himself, no adult present. Chase says, that is not okay, and Brook says, damn right it’s not. He says, that just doesn’t seem like Agent Cates.

James stands next to an overturned feed bucket and says, it was heavier than he thought. Now he wrecked the horses’ dinner. Cody says, no he didn’t. Horses don’t mind eating oats that have been spilled on the floor. They eat dirt and grass. Get it back in the bucket, okay? Tracy asks why James was trying to carry a heavy bucket by himself, and James says he was trying to help. Cody tells him to hold the dustpan. He’ll sweep it in. Tracy says she’ll leave them to it, and James asks why she isn’t helping. Tracy says she’s the boss. It’s her job to get other people to clean up. James says, a good boss should be prepared to do everything their employees do (correct), and she asks if his friend Cody taught him that, but James says, no. His Grandpa Mac did. Tracy says, well, they can’t disagree with man of the people Mac Scorpio, and James asks if she’s going to help or is she a bad boss? He hands her the dustpan, and Cody laughs.

Brook asks, since when is Chase so buddy-buddy with Agent Cates? but Chase says he’s not. It’s just Cates seems very by the book. She says, what book might that be? Interrogation for Dummies? Chase says, clearly, he was wrong about the guy. He’s the devil incarnate and generally a bad dude (ha-ha-ha!). Brook tells him not to patronize her, and he says he would never. She says, Cates is a snake and a jerk, and she should make good on all of her threats. He says, she threatened an FBI agent? and she says, damn right she did. He says, like with bodily harm? and she says, no. She just old him that he should be ashamed of interrogating a child without a parent present. He says, okay, and she says, and that she would sue him into oblivion and take his badge. He says, oh. Because threatening a federal agent is kind of a federal crime.

Natalia says she came to mend fences with Kristina and enlist her help about Allison, but she realizes that’s not something she can ask of Kristina. That’s something they have to work out on their own. But she’s really appreciative of Kristina taking the time to talk to her. She gets up and says, Mr. Corinthos, such a pleasure. She shakes Sonny’s hand and leaves. Kristina says, so that just happened, and Sonny asks how she’s doing. She says she doesn’t know. She’s not really sure. Her first impulse was to text Allie and tell her what just happened, but then is that really fair to them? Shouldn’t it be between them whether or not they work things out? But then, how can she pretend it’s not about her and she’s not involved? He says, she can’t.

Cody asks if they got all of it, and James says, let him check… Mission accomplished. He and Cody high-five, and James turns to Tracy with his hand raised. He says, it’s called a high-five. Does she want him to show her how to do it? She laughs and says, no. She knows how to do a high-five. She just hasn’t done one in a while. They high-five, and James says, turns out she is a good boss. She thanks him and asks if his Grandpa Mac has any other good pearls of wisdom. James says, to have a friend, you’ve got to be a friend, and she says, that’s a good one. So she’s the boss and he’s the guest. How about if she invites him up to the house for some hot chocolate? He says, Cody too? and she says, yes, of course (🍷). Come on. She takes the brush from him, and they all head out, Cody lingering for a moment.

Brook asks, is threatening a federal agent a federal crime? and Chase says, well… She says, so what? There was no way she was going to let that jerk intimidate Danny. He says, nor should she. He’s 100% on her side. She asks if he’s sure about that, and he says he is, but in the future, instead of threatening to sue, take his badge, or anything else she might have said – she says, there were no witnesses – perhaps she could kindly remind the overeager law enforcement officer that he can’t question a minor without a parent present. She says, and an attorney, and he says, if that’s necessary. She says, an army of attorneys, and he says, would protect the rights of the minor without ganging up on a federal agent. Right? She says, fine. She’ll show mercy. He says, that’s all he asks. He kind of wishes he saw her laying down the law a little bit. She says, her too. He could have been her witness. He says he loves it when she’s all hot and fired up, and kisses her.

Molly says, if that’s how Alexis feels about it, then okay, and Alexis says, okay as in, I’ve said everything I can possibly say and now I’m washing my hands of it okay? Molly says, hopefully, support her. She’ll have Alexis’s back every step of the way. She’ll be there for her. Alexis says, and what if it goes belly up? and Molly says, what if against all odds it actually happens? Stranger things have. Alexis agrees, and Molly says, but please, monitor herself. Take inventory. Go to meetings. Alexis says she’s been doing that all along and has no intention of stopping, and Molly says, now. She’s talking about during the waiting for the decision. She’s going to get frustrated and might want to skip a meeting now and again. She might even say, screw this altogether, but please promise her that she won’t. That she’ll stay the course. Alexis says she promises, and Molly says, and one more thing. If this doesn’t go her way, if the worst thing happens and she doesn’t get her license back, please promise her that she won’t drink. Alexis says, that’s a promise she can’t make. But she promises to do everything in her power, including calling upon a higher power, to prevent that from happening. Molly says she understands no recovery is guaranteed. She knows there are backslides, and no promise she gets Alexis to make is going to keep her from drinking. Alexis says, yeah, and Molly says she’s so selfish. Alexis says, she’s not selfish. In fact, be selfish, because they’re all really sick and tired of her altruism. Molly says, with Kristina pregnant with their baby, she just really needs her mom right now.

Valentin says, never mind the fact that in order for Nina to fall in love with him, Sonny had to literally forget who he was. Sonny makes her bend over backwards to prove her worth to him and she bends, and he hates it. It breaks his heart to see her do that, especially when Sonny is such a hypocrite. Anyone who wrongs him, he just writes them off. He’s not that complicated. He’s just erratic. Sonny isn’t worthy of her. Nina asks if he’s finished, and he says he wishes. When he heard she and Sonny had broken up and Sonny was looking for a divorce, he could finally breathe. He was that relieved. She asks, why? So she could come back to him? He says, that is lovely, but no. Because he’s not worthy of her either. He was relieved because she could finally forget about having to be Sonny’s wife, and maybe she could finally remember who she really is. She asks who he thinks that is, and he says, she’s Nina Reeves, and Nina Reeves is a marvel, a survivor, a rule breaker. Everything in her life, she’s spun into gold. And it’s his greatest hope for her that she remembers that.

Kristina tells Sonny that if she texts Allie and says her mom was here, that automatically implies that it’s her and Allie against her mom, and she doesn’t necessarily want that. Sonny says he thinks that’s wise, and Kristina says, if she doesn’t tell her, she doesn’t really want to be keeping a secret from her. He says, also wise, and she says she thinks what she should do is wait until she sees her. And if Allie brings it up, then great. If she doesn’t, then she’ll tell Allie what happened tonight. He says he’s curious. What’s her take on Natalia? She says she definitely didn’t win Natalia over initially, but she gives her credit for reaching out. Sonny says, so does he, and Kristina says she gives him a lot more credit. He asks what she means, and she says she told Allie how hard it was to come out to him and when she did, he was like – she imitates his voice – what? You think I don’t know gay people? I know gay people. She would have given anything to see the expression on her own face when he did that. It was like it was no big deal. He says, even looking back, the fact that she didn’t know he would accept that, kind of hurts even now. She asks, why? He’s always been the only one she could really turn to. He says he’ll always be, and she says she knows, and they hug.

John says, today he questioned Daniel Morgan without a parent or guardian present, and Anna says, that’s not good. He says, luckily somebody stopped him. This woman just swooped in like she was on fire, and lit into him, telling him how ashamed he should be, and all of a sudden, he was. She says, oh my God. He met Tracy Quartermaine. He asks if Tracy has a Brooklyn accent, and Anna says, no. He met Brook Lynn. He laughs and says, Brooklyn? Her name is actually Brooklyn? Anyway, he’s got to thank her because she forced him to realize he’d crossed the line. She says, at least he realized his mistake. Some people cross the line and they just double down and floor it. He says he was disappointed that he went there in the first place. Today was not his finest day as a cop. She says, it wasn’t hers either, and raises her glass. She says, here’s to being better tomorrow, and they clink glasses.

Tomorrow, Willow tells Michale that she can’t see a way out of this situation; Sasha stops the photo shoot; Heather asks Laura if she was always this wild; and Drew tells Nina that she’s going to get caught. Or as he says it cot.

What I Watched Today

(rambling, random thoughts & annoyingly detailed recaps from real time TV watching)

General Hospital

Music plays way too loud as Mr. Novak walks into the chapel. He and Jason give each other the eye. Spinelli asks Jason if he’s sure about this. He’s not referring to the wedding, but the other thing. Jason says, sure, and Spinelli says, let fate take its course. Monica comes in, and tells Jason that he looks so handsome. The bride is a lucky woman. He says he thinks he’s the lucky one, and she says, they disagree; that’s good. What’s a Quartermaine wedding without a little conflict? He says, true, and she asks if he’s nervous. Who is she talking to? Of course (🍷) he’s not nervous. He says he’s glad she’s there, and she says, he’s her son. Where else would she be? They hug.

Bobbie comes into Carly’s dressing room, and says she’s dazzling. Jason won’t know what hit him. She’s going to take his breath away. Not that she’ll be able to tell. Carly says she will, and Bobbie says, that’s true. If anyone can read what Jason is feeling, it’s her. Carly says he can read her too, and Bobbie says, no bridal jitters? No second thoughts? Carly says, no, and Bobbie says, because she happens to know Carly disappeared for a couple of hours this morning. She thought Carly might have a case of cold feet. Carly says, no. She was feeling nostalgic. She was remembering how she and Jason first met, and everything they’ve been through. Jason tracked her down, and they had a long talk. Bobbie says, good. She can actually get Jason to talk. If that’s not love, she doesn’t know what is. Carly says she was late for the makeup artist, but Josslyn helped her pull everything together. How did she get such an amazing daughter? Bobbie says, circle of life. One day, they come into town, hellbent on destroying you, and all of a sudden you blink, and they don’t need you anymore. Carly says, that’s not true. She’s always going to need Bobbie. They hug, and Josslyn walks in with the bouquet. She says, Maxie asked to deliver these, but she made Maxie let her. She hands the bouquet to Carly, and asks if she’s ready. Carly holds the bouquet and asks what they think. Bobbie says she’s one beautiful bride, and Josslyn tells her, what grandma said.

Cameron looks at his phone, when Trina snatches it out of his hand. She says she thinks it’s time for a digital detox, and he says he was just waiting for her. They hug, and he says, Josslyn told him that Trina’s mom was in an accident. Is she okay? What happened? Trina says, thankfully, yes. She doesn’t want to get into it right now, but let’s just say, it’s been quite a day. He says he’s glad she’s all right. He’s also glad Trina is there. Josslyn’s been so busy with her maid of honor duties, he’s been at major risk of boredom. She says, and now that she’s here? and he says, it’s time to have some fun. Or, they can be bored together. She says, sounds like a plan.

Ned tells Olivia to stop giving Austin the evil eye, and she asks how else she’s supposed to put a curse on him. He asks if a curse isn’t a little extreme, and she asks who the hell Austin thinks he is, telling her there’s something wrong with her child. Ned says, a doctor?

Maxie tells Austin that she needs to check in with the bride. Can she trust him to be on his own for ten minutes? He says he hopes so, but realistically, there’s probably one or two people left in Port Charles that he hasn’t unsettled. She asks, what Olivia is miffed at him about anyway? She usually stays out of ELQ business. He asks how she knows that, and she says, because Olivia often says, ELQ, not my business. He says, that’s probably a pretty good clue. Olivia isn’t upset at Austin the Quartermaine; she’s upset at Austin the doctor. She says, so this has to do with whatever he and Ned were talking about after he found Leo. He tells her, here’s what he’ll say. He can hardly blame Olivia for being defensive; she just cares about her kid. Maxie says, of course (🍷) she does, and he says, so do I.

On the phone, Brando tells Sasha to put her feet up, and he’ll bring her a slice of cake. He wants her and the baby to take it easy, and he’ll see her soon. Gladys walks in with Novak, and she says, he remembers her son Brando. He says, of course (🍷). It’s a pleasure to see him. They shake hands, and Gladys says, wasn’t it kind of Mr. Novak to bring her as a guest to her dear, departed cousin’s widow’s wedding? My Lord, what would Sonny make of his wife moving on so soon after meeting his maker?

Nina tries to go back inside the Tan-O, but Jax says he’s not letting her go in there. It’s too dangerous. She says, Mike’s still in there; they have to help him. She yells, Mike! and struggles with Jax.

Lying unconscious in the middle of the burning Tan-O, Sonny coughs.

Diane tells Jason that she’s happy for him and Carly. Jason says they’re happy too, and she says she’s glad to hear it. Carly was full of substantial misgivings when she first approached Diane about it. He says, she was afraid it would ruin their friendship, but Diane says, it was a little deeper than that. Carly thought it was the first step in losing him, and Diane told her it was patently absurd. He says, she did? and she says, of course (🍷). She told Carly, with all the stunts she’s pulled, all the plans gone wrong, and the messes Jason has gotten her out of, if she hadn’t lost him by now, she never will.

Brando imagines Novak has gotten to know Sonny pretty well over the years, and Novak says, as well as you can know a respected colleague. Brando says, then well enough to know what was important to Sonny, and Novak says, the late Mr. Corinthos always said, nothing was more important than family. Brando says, then they agree that Sonny would want the two people closest to him to find happiness, and Novak says Brando makes an excellent point. Gladys says, her boy is so loyal; Sonny valued that. Novak says he couldn’t place Brando when he saw him earlier with his lovely lady at the MetroCourt, then it occurred to him – Cyrus Renault’s driver. Is that right? Brando says, that’s right, sir, and Novak says he heard what Cyrus did to Brando and his enchanting mother. An unscrupulous man; no honor. Brando says, then Novak must remember, if it weren’t for Carly, Cyrus would have killed him and his enchanting mother. Gladys says, don’t give Carly all the credit, and Brando says, Jason deserves his share as well. She says, Jason? and he says, Renault was still trying to force Carly to hand Gladys over, but Jason came back at the risk of his own freedom. If Jason hadn’t shot Renault when he did, who knows what would have happened? Novak says, true. Cyrus was a difficult man, as he’s sure Brando knows. By the way, if Brando is looking for work, the Novak association appreciates dedicated men. Gladys is all happy, and says that’s very generous of Vincent, but Brando says, considering they both barely escaped with their lives, he thinks it’s best if he and his dear mother steer clear of any association with his former line of work. He hopes Novak understands.

Ned tells Olivia, he’s just saying, she went from zero to sixty with Austin. She says, for good reason. Austin was willing to take advantage of poor, sweet, innocent Chase to his own ends. Chase was practically dead, he could barely walk, and his heart was broken into a million pieces. Then this nice guy manipulated Chase, a guest in their home, to get Edward’s papers. Ned says, this isn’t about ELQ, but she says, what if this game he’s playing with Leo is just about jockeying for position at ELQ, trying to ingratiate himself? Why take it on faith when this guy did nothing to deserve it? Ned says, they shouldn’t, but they should also leave room for the possibility that he’s on to something. She says, he’s not the doctor Leo is seeing, and Ned says, he’s not, but Leo has a connection with him, and that should count for something. Olivia gives Austin another evil eye.

Michael tells Willow, that’s quite a dress (eh), and she says she doesn’t think anyone will be looking at her. All eyes will be on the bride. He says he’s not too sure about that, because whenever she walks into a room, he finds it impossible to look at anyone else. She says, it’s almost showtime. Shouldn’t he be getting ready? He says, what’s to prepare? He just has to stand next to Jason while Jason does all the work. Besides, after months of having to steal time with her, he doesn’t want to be rushed. She says, if she has her way, they have a lifetime ahead of them. She wants to make sure he’s okay. He says, about? and she says she knows he’s happy for his mom, but he’s got to be thinking about his father right now. He says she really does know him inside out (like this would be a hard call), and she says she’s been paying attention. He says his dad has been on his mind a lot, but right now, he doesn’t feel sad. He feels like his dad is with them.

A fireman tries to get everyone to move, but Nina says she’s not going until she knows Mike is safe. Jax says they will move, but they want to stay close until they know their friend is safe. The fireman says, fine. Follow him.

Inside, Sonny coughs. He seems to be regaining consciousness, and sees the vision of Carly from behind. He says he knows this woman.

Carly thanks Josslyn and Bobbie for standing beside her, and Bobbie says, always. Josslyn says, and forever, when Maxie comes flying in, asking, where’s the bouquet? She trusted Josslyn with it. She better not have lost it. Carly produces it, and says, it’s right here. Maxie says, the bride is a vision, the groom is dashing, and the chapel is full of love. Let’s get this show on the road.

Gladys tells Brando, he blew that, and he says he told her, he’s only pursuing legitimate business ventures now. She says, he calls stripping a legit business venture? and he says he calls it a paying job. She says, there are jobs that pay better, and he tells her, stop. First she tries to get Carly and Jason to hire him, and now Novak? She of all people knows what that world is like, or does he have to remind her of the bullet wound she’s got to show for it? She says she was just trying to set him up for success. He claims he wants to move in with Sasha, and support her and his child, this is his chance. Vincent is clearly interested, and he’s a man with influence. He says he promised Sasha that he’d stay away from Novak’s kind of influence. She says, where is Sasha, by the way? and he says, the OB appointment didn’t go as smoothly as planned. Sasha’s blood pressure was a little elevated, so the doctor decided to put her on bed rest. Gladys says she’s sorry to hear that. Is the baby all right? He says, both the baby and Sasha are fine. It’s just a precautionary measure to protect them both. She says, if there’s anything she can do… and he says, actually there is. If she’s really concerned about Sasha’s blood pressure, stop trying to get him a job in organized crime.

Buscema asks Novak if it’s set, and Novak nods. Woo says, so there’s been no deviation from the plan? and Novak tells them, let’s just say, it will be a wedding to remember.

Diane goes over to Spinelli and says, let’s see if she’s got this straight. The rather heavyset gentleman is Vincent Novak. The other gentleman is Charles Buscema. The very elegant woman is Ms. Woo. He says he believes so, and she says, he believes so? He’s hacked into every device known that holds their secrets. He says he can neither confirm nor deny, and she says, now that they’ve established that, let’s sit back and watch the two people she never thought would, get married. He says he has to agree it surprised him at first, but now it seems inevitable. She tells him, don’t count your chickens. They watch Monica head toward Jason, and Diane says, it looks like the groom’s mother is going to make one last attempt to talk him out of it.

Monica tells Jason, she noticed his lawyer is here. Does he think she brought a prenup for him to sign? She’d sorry. She should never have asked that. Jason says he knows it’s not ever going to be easy for her and Carly, but Carly told him that she showed up to offer them her blessing, and it meant a lot to Carly. Monica says she’d do anything for him, and they seem genuinely happy. He says they are, and she says she noticed he’s also very magnanimous; he invited his brand new cousin. He says, actually, he didn’t, when Epiphany joins them. She says, he cleans up nice.  Carly is the most obstinate, high-maintenance woman she’s ever known, but the two of them together, it works. They deserve happiness, especially him. He was always kind to her son, and always had her back. Jason says she’s always been good to him, and she says, even when she shouldn’t have been. She tells Monica that she’s not referring to anything specific, and Monica says she’s not listening. Jason says he’ll always have Epiphany’s back, and he knows she’ll always be straight with him. She says, always. Good luck. With that bride of his, he’s going to need it. Monica laughs.

Novack approaches Jason, and says he heard there was another dust-up with his nephew Joey. Jason says Joey crashed his bachelor party, and Novak says, that boy is out of control. Which is why he got Joey a one way ticket to Gdansk. He offers his sincere regrets if any offense was taken, and Jason says, it almost sounds like an apology. Novak says, it almost was. These things have a way of working themselves out. Jason says he can be sure of that, and Maxie says, excuse me. If everyone could please be seated, the ceremony is about to begin.

Canon in D major – otherwise known as the theme from Ordinary People – plays, as Josslyn walks in. Cameron smiles at her. Here Comes the Bride starts to play.

Nina is coughing her head off, and Jax tells her that she should see the paramedics. She won’t budge though, and he asks, what the hell happened? Nina grabs a fireman, and says, there’s one person in there. A beam collapsed, and he’s under it. The fireman says they can’t get in, but Jax says, there’s a delivery entrance where he can get to the bar. It was smoky, but clear enough for him to get Nina out. The fireman tells the others, go, and asks if they know how the fire started. Phyllis says, it was set deliberately, and he asks Nina what her friend’s name is. Nina says, his name is… Sonny, but he answers to Mike.

Inside, Sonny sees the back of Carly like he did in the beginning. She walks away, and he says, Nina. You’ve got to help me. Please. Come back.

Carly walks down the aisle.

Sonny says, wait. Who are you? Come back.

Carly gets to the altar, and Spinelli and Diane are all giggly. Novak, Buscema, and Woo exchange looks. Carly gives Josslyn her bouquet, and winks at Michael. Everyone is smiling, and Carly and Jason join hands, eyes twinkling.

The minister says they’re gathered for the wedding of Caroline and Jason, who are long time friends. So rather than bearing witness to a new love, Jason and Carly are affirming the latest chapter in their lives together. They open with a reading from Josslyn, which I later find out is the Apache Wedding Blessing (see below).

Sonny is by the river again, and Mike tells him to get on his feet. Sonny asks who Mike is, and Mike laughs, saying, he thinks Sonny already knows. Sonny says he remembers Mike, and Mike says, of course (🍷) he does. Who could forget a face like this? Sonny says Mike helped him when he washed up. Mike gave Sonny his jacket. Mike says, that’s a good first step. What else does he recall? Sonny says, it seemed like time stopped. He looks at his wrist, but his watch is no longer there. Mike asks if he managed to get it working, and Sonny says, yeah, he did, but he let the watch go. Mike says, well, he let go of a lot. What would Lenny say about leaving loved ones behind? Sonny says, Mike knows Lenny? He doesn’t understand. Mike shows him Lenny’s dog tags, and says, Sonny was in a bad way. He made sure Sonny got somewhere he knew he’d be safe; to a brother in arms. Sonny says he owes Mike and Lenny a lot. They helped Sonny survive and come to Nixon Falls. Sonny says, Lenny was one of the reasons why he settled down there, and Mike says, that’s beautiful, but it’s time to go home now.

A fireman says, they’re doing everything they can to rescue their friend, but the building is likely a total loss. Nina says she’s so sorry; it’s her fault. If she hadn’t lied, the Tan-O wouldn’t have gone up in smoke with Mike inside. Phyllis says, it hurts to lose the Tan-O, but it’s brick-and-mortar. As for the lie, that discussion can wait. The important thing is saving a man they both care about. A police officer asks who owns the property, and Phyllis says she does. He says the captain told him, the fire was started intentionally. Can they tell him who torched the place? Nina says she can tell him exactly who did it. His name is Peter August, and he’s a wanted man. Jax is like, huh?

Phyllis goes with the fireman, and Jax says, Peter did this? Nina says, Peter confronted her about where Maxie is keeping the baby. Then he ran into Sonny, and used that information to blackmail her. He says, she knew Peter was stalking Maxie and searching for her baby, and didn’t tell anyone? How long did she allow Peter to operate unchecked? She says, it wasn’t like that, and he says she could have died; Phyllis too. And all to keep Sonny’s identity a secret? She says, Peter threatened to kidnap James, and he knows as well as she does, as far as Peter is concerned, Maxie’s other children are expendable. Jax says, all the more reason to let go of Sonny, and she says she was going to do that exact thing, but thought she had another out. He says, Valentin? and she says she set Peter up on a false lead; Obrecht was supposed to ambush him. He says she’s kidding. She conspired with Obrecht? She says she didn’t ask for details. She just knew that when Obrecht got done with Peter, he would never hurt anyone again. Jax asks how that worked out, and she says, it worked out great. She’s proud of what she’s accomplished. Thanks for pointing that out. It really helps. Peter alluded to the fact that something happened to her aunt. Does he know anything about that? if she loses one more person she loves because of her actions, she won’t be able forgive herself.

The minister invites the bride and groom to share their vows with one another. Wake me when it’s over. Jason says they know and accept each other. They trust each other, and there’s nobody he’d rather build a life and future with. So with her hand in his, it starts the rest of their lives together.

Sonny tells Mike, Nixon Falls is his home; the Tan-O, his friends, Nina. He’s happy there. He’s got everything he needs. Mike says he knows something about embracing life and love after the slate’s been wiped clean. He found it’s possible to make new memories and find happiness without the baggage from the past. Sonny laughs, and says, this guy gets it. He doesn’t have to justify his decisions to anyone. Mike says, another thing he’s learned is that you can’t run away from the past and who you are. Not really. Sonny says, it’s working for him, but Mike says, you can’t turn away from who you are, and the past will always find you. Sonny asks, what if he doesn’t want to be found? and Mike says, he knows Sonny likes his life in Nixon Falls, and loves being Mike, but there’s only one problem with that. Mike is dead.

Nina tells Jax, obviously, she made a terrible mistake, but she had her reasons, and she’s doing her damnedest to fix them now. He says he hopes it’s not too late, because Peter is still out there, putting pretty much everyone she knows in danger. She says, laying blame doesn’t help anyone, and he says she’s right. Only one thing will help, and that’s getting the word out. Nina goes over to Phyllis, and says, waiting for… Sonny is tortuous. She asks if Phyllis needs anything. Does she want Nina to call a paramedic for her? Phyllis says it’s not herself she’s worried about. She tells Nina to listen to herself. Even now, she can’t decide what she wants to call him. Nina says, when  he comes out, she’s going to tell him the truth. Phyllis says, and if he doesn’t make it? Nina says she can’t think about that, but Phyllis says she has to. If Sonny dies in there, which man will she mourn? (I’d hazard a guess, it won’t be Sonny.) A fireman says they were able to reach the building, and Nina asks if they found him. He says, unfortunately, the hallway was engulfed. There was no way to reach the bar room. Nina asks, what exactly does that mean?

Sonny says he doesn’t know why Mike is pushing him like this. Life is good here. He’s fine. Mike laughs, and says, he can’t be fine, not until he knows his past, and knows who he is, and embrace it. Once he knows the facts, he can move forward in any direction he chooses, but he needs to know. Close his eyes. Sonny just looks at him, and Mike says, do you trust me? Sonny closes his eyes, and remembers when he was first in Port Charles. Omg, he looks like a child. He flashes back to shooting Dante, visiting Morgan’s grave, and catching Julian on the bridge. He sits down on the ground, and asks, what the hell was that? Mike says, his past, his life, and Sonny says, he’s supposed to embrace that guy, whoever he was? So much hurt, so much death because of him. Mike says, he was also generous, and loyal, and at times, even heroic. Sonny says he didn’t see a hero, and Mike crouches down in front of him. He says, despite Sonny’s flaws and sins, he was pretty damn proud of who he was. Sonny says, there’s no way he should have been, but Mike says, yes, he should. He made mistakes… Sonny says, he thinks they’re called crimes; he killed people. Mike says, he did what he did to protect his family, and Sonny says, if his family was targeted because of him, then they’re better off without him. Mike says, it’s not for him to say, and not for Sonny to say either. Those painful memories are just part of his story. Why did he stop looking for the rest of the picture? Sonny says, because he’s seen his bad side, and Mike says, so he thinks the man he was, has nothing to do with the man he thinks he is now? How did Nixon Falls Mike sniff out that con artist? How did he hustle a poker game, or handle a gun with ease? The best parts of that Mike, come from who he really is. The protector, the friend, come from who he really is. Sonny says, Mike told him that he knows something about this, and Mike says, yes. Sonny asks, what would you do? and Mike says, given the choice, he’d always choose to remember. He’d fight for everything he was. There’s a bright light, and Sonny sees Carly’s back, but this time, she turns to him and smiles.

Carly says, Jason, my dearest friend. When they met years ago, playing pool at Jake’s, there was an instant connection. She couldn’t describe it then, and still can’t. What she does know is, this isn’t chance; it’s a choice. She chooses to stand by him for the rest of their lives. Her determination isn’t as quiet as his, but it’s just as fierce. She cherishes their past, and can’t wait to step into their future together.

The fireman says the Tan-O is structurally unsound, and the hallway’s impassible. There’s no way they can reach the bar room. Nina says, their friend is still in there. They have to get him out. He says, he’s sorry. They’re doing their best they can, but there’s no way to reach him. Jax makes a call, and says, come on; pick up.

The minister says Jason and Carly are going to light a remembrance candle; honoring those loved ones who can’t be there in body, but are with them in spirit. Maxie looks at her phone, and sees a call from Jax coming in.

Carly walks to Sonny and Mike, and Mike says, Sonny may have found love in Nixon Falls, but he found it as someone else; as Mike. Sonny asks if Mike is saying his love isn’t real but Mike says, of course (🍷) it’s real. But there’s real love in the world he chose to forget; the love he has for others, and the love others have for him. Is he still willing to turn his back on what’s right in front of him? It’s up to him. Which home does he want to go to? He can die as Mike, or live as the man he really is. (When you put it that way…) Sonny asks if Carly is a part of that life, and Mike says, the best and the brightest.

Jason and Carly light the candle. The minister says, this candle burns in memory of those we’ve loved and lost.

Sonny goes to Carly, and she holds out her hand. He takes it, and I feel sad. Sonny flashes back to telling Carly she’s his wife and the mother of his children. He’ll always love her. She says she loves him too, and they kiss. Back when we were all in diapers.

Sonny opens his eyes, and says, Carly.

Tomorrow, the old speak now or forever hold your peace, Maxie wonders why Jax was calling, and Nina says they have to get Sonny out before it’s too late.

🙏 What She Read…

The prayer Josslyn read at Carly and Jason’s wedding.

💰 In this week’s highlights from Million Dollar Listing Los Angeles, Fredrik got a listing for an incredibly ornate house, complete with custom-made furniture, which was included whether the buyer wanted it or not. I didn’t catch the square footage, but one of the 11 bathrooms was 1200 square feet, so that gives you an idea. It was filled with beautiful touches like handmade fabric wallpaper, and a floral wallpaper that matched the floral headboard and footboard of a bed. It also had a view to die for, but don’t they all in L.A.? Fredrik thought the 6 bedroom house had a suggested retail price of between $26 and $28 million. No surprise, the representative for the seller insisted on 28. Also included was a bright orange kitchen island, and the rep said, everyone loves orange. Um… I’d still take it though. It was built in 1987, but I would have thought it had come from the Downton Abbey days. While Fredrik was afraid he’d lose a deal over the flowered bed or too much marble, he hoped the caché would offset the orange. The only catch was, the rep wanted him to co-list it with JoshA. Fredrik sucked it up and made the call, and Josh agreed. Because of the pandemic, the usual open houses and events were out of the question, so Josh and Fredrik created a YouTube video, showcasing not just the house, but their different styles. To get even more eyes on the property, they were going to have viewers vote for who they liked best. That ought to be good. I can’t see either one of them accepting being second best.

In the meantime, since Tracy’s buyer had backed out because he felt he was too tall for the house, she had to explain that one to the seller. The seller, who was weird to begin with, not wanting anyone inside the house, got weirder, wanting a buyer with no contingencies. I was fuzzy on exactly what contingencies were in regard to real estate, so I saved you the trouble of googling. See below. Tracy ended up getting the deal done with one of the buyers with a back-up offer. JoshF got a listing for a Rat Pack throwback house, built in 1956. While the house was around 2400 square feet, and only 2 bedrooms, the lot was nearly 18,000 square feet (it’s the land, Katie Scarlett), and the view included the Hollywood sign. I loved the house, but I’m enamored of the 50s/60s/70s real estate. The owner loved the house too, but was recently divorced, and wasn’t keen on living there alone. It was kind of out of the way. At first, she was open to offers from developers, but then decided she was willing to wait for the right buyer; someone who appreciated the vibe. If she could take about $3,499,995 off the price tag, I’m her buyer.

Next time, Fredrik meets Dolph Lundgren.

🏡 What They Are…

Everything you wanted to know about real estate contingencies, but were afraid to ask. Or not.

👮🏾‍♀️ The Commissioner Has Left the Building…

It took me a while to get used to new Jordan, and then she became just Jordan. I got to like her, and now I’m back to square one.

👠 Intentional Slip…

Apparently, a tease about Ava got the interest that was hoped for.

🚗 Accidents Run In the Family…

This was pretty amusing. They left out the part where an extra roll was added to Erika’s son’s car though.

It’s the ultimate crossover.

🌜 Goodnight, My Someones…

We inch toward another week’s end, and ponder, just how many times did Erika’s son’s car roll? I don’t have all the answers, but I do have soap, tea, and maybe some answers for you tomorrow. Until then, stay safe, stay paying your fair share, and stay knowing you can’t turn away from who you are. The past will always find you.
