Since it was the premiere, I figured I’d throw in a quickie.
Fear the Walking Dead
Morgan made it to Padre, but not the way he wanted to. More than a place, Padre is also a dude. Morgan sat in an interrogation room, Madison leaning against the wall. Speaking over an intercom, Padre said they wanted Morgan to be a collector, and a steampunkish woman put a baby monitor on the table. A baby started crying, and Morgan wondered why the parents weren’t brought in, but Padre said, the parents didn’t want to build something better, but wanted to rebuild what they’d had, but they couldn’t. Morgan said, someone should comfort her, but Padre said, she’d do what the other children did to survive; separate herself from her emotions. Morgan said she sounded scared. Knowing it must be Mo, he said, let him take his daughter and go, but Padre said, they were doing what was best for her, not Morgan. Morgan jumped up, knocking out a guard and grabbing a gun. He accused Madison of being with Padre, but Madison joined him, saying she was going to do what she said she was. He asked if she was sure, and she said there was nothing worse they could do to her than what she was already living.
In (at?) Padre, we were introduced to Dove and Wren, who were about 15 and 8 respectively. Wren put on protective clothing and went into a ring to fight a zombie. She had some flashbacks of zombies in a swamp, and froze, the zombie getting the better of her. She called to Dove for help, and after rescuing her, Dove said Wren was too young for this. Wren insisted she just needed some training, and offered to do Dove’s chores in return. In the city, some kind of troop or scout leader shouted things like, who sustains our way of life? Who is teaching us to be strong? after which, the group said, Padre! Madison was being kept in a cell in the basement, which looked pretty bleak. The door had a dirty, round window, and one of those slots they feed prisoners through. Wren brought down an oxygen tank, and Madison called her closer. When Wren opened the slot, Madison tried to grab her, and she ran. Later, while Madison was putting lines on the wall to mark the days, steampunk woman came in, saying, it was that time of the week. She gave Madison a shot in an arm scarred with previous shots, and Madison grabbed her gun. Putting it in her mouth, Madison tried to shoot herself, but the woman said there was no ammunition in it. She sedated Madison, and said, they knew what Madison wanted was to die, but in Padre, that wasn’t going to happen.
Wren told Dove that she wanted to go to the mainland to build their future, but Dove said the only thing out there was carrion with teeth. Wren asked about Madison, lying to Dove, and saying she’d come upon Madison’s cell by accident. Dove said her name was Lark and she’d been a collector. She’d saved more kids than anyone, until she helped a guy and his kid get off the island. She took out twelve guards with a sledgehammer, and twice as many carrion. She almost killed Padre.
Wren snuck down to see Madison, and asked if Madison would teach her how to kill carrion. She needed to show Padre that she wasn’t too young to wear the mantle. Madison said she wanted something in return; she wanted the oxygen valve turned off. Wren said she knew Madison wanted to die, and Madison said she’d already done what she set out to do. Madison told her to let the weight of the hammer do the work, and after Wren made an unsuccessful attempt at a swing, Madison asked her to come closer; she’d show her. Madison grabbed the hammer through the slot and got the door open, but Wren knocked Madison back into the cell and down. Madison noticed a scar on Wren, and asked where she’d gotten it. Wren said she’d had it since she was little, and Madison asked how old she was. Wren said she was 8, and Madison said Wren’s name was Mo. She’d helped Mo and her father escape. That’s why she was locked up. She took Mo and walked out, threatening to kill Mo if the guards came closer. Madison knocked out all the guards with the sledgehammer, and told Mo that she was taking her as far away from Padre as possible.
Madison drove Mo in a boat for a while, and heard they were looking for her over the radio. She told Mo that she’d made a promise to Mo’s father, and intended to keep it. They were going to find her dad. They got out, and started hiking, and Mo pretended to get stuck in some mud. When Madison went to help, Mo knocked Madison down, and grabbed the radio. Madison followed Mo, but lost her gun, and told Mo that they had to go inland. Mo said, Madison needed oxygen, but Madison said she could handle herself. Mo wouldn’t be able to handle the dead. Zombies were coming, and Mo tried to face one, but had another swamp flashback and froze. Madison killed the zombie, and Morgan came out of the brush. Madison told Mo that he was her dad, and asked Morgan why Mo was back in Padre. How did he find them? He said he’d heard the chatter on the walkies, and this was where they’d escaped 7 years ago. He was here to take Mo back. They kept walking until they got to Pip’s World of Wonders, a deserted fairground. I love a deserted fairground.
When Padre radioed, Morgan took the radio from Madison, identified himself as Nightingale, and said he had Wren. Madison was like, what just happened? and Morgan said she’d been locked away a long time. Madison asked what they were holding over him, but Morgan said Mo was better off with them than him. Mo said she wanted to go back, and Morgan said, this was about what was best for his kid. After a brief struggle, Morgan said that Madison was only doing this to make herself feel better about the other kids she took. Morgan radioed that he had Wren, and was told, Lark (Madison) was no longer needed, and was now a liability to the settlement. Morgan told Mo to go elsewhere, and was about to shoot Madison, saying, if he didn’t do it, they might not let Mo back in, and it’s what Madison wanted anyway. Madison got Morgan down and got his gun, insisting she was going to save them, but Morgan said they didn’t need saving. Zombies started to come, and Morgan said they’d go through the swamp; the swamps were like flypaper to the zombies. They come in, but they can’t get back out. I’d say that was more of a roach motel. Who still uses flypaper? As they walked, Madison asked if they had Grace, and if that was why Morgan was doing what they wanted. She told Mo, that’s what they did. They found out what mattered and threatened to take it away. Morgan said, they could provide a way of life that works. Hearing Morgan’s name, Mo asked, what kind of a name was that? and Madison said, it was Mo’s name too. They told Madison that they’d go after her kids if she didn’t do what they wanted. Her kids were already dead, but Padre made her believe they were alive. Morgan says, when he and Mo were found, they were out of food and water, and at the mercy of a posse. It was only a matter of time before things ended. A flare went up, and Morgan asked for the radio, but Madison threw it in the swamp instead.
Madison said they had to find shelter, and Morgan said he knew a place. They came to a slowly sinking houseboat, and Mo flashed back to being there before with zombies surrounding it, and asked if something had happened to her here. Morgan said, the less she knew, the better. They needed to stay ahead of them. When they got to the houseboat, Morgan said, Padre was going to come looking for them when they didn’t show up at the estuary. He saw Madison’s arm, and she said, they drew her blood once a week. Sometimes she didn’t cooperate. He told her that he was sorry; he didn’t know they’d locked her up. He’d given himself a set of rules. He only took kids who’d lost their parents or whose parents wanted them to have a better way of life. Madison asked what Padre thought of that, but he said, they didn’t know. She asked, who else was on the rafts? and he said he didn’t know where Daniel and Luciana ended up, and no one knew where Victor was now. Mo looked around the houseboat, picking various things up, but Morgan wouldn’t give her any information about what anything was. She found the Walkman and listened to Grace singing. Morgan said, it was nothing, just a song, but Mo said, it wasn’t. She remembered.
Mo said, the zombies were going to pull them under. She remembered. Madison shouldn’t have taken her off the island. As zombies closed in, Mo got Morgan’s gun, but Morgan promised Mo that Padre would find them before anything happened. Mo said Madison wanted to die; now she was going to get them killed. Morgan said they were going to wait for Padre; this is how they were found last time. He’d radioed and told them to come. Madison said they didn’t have a radio this time, and Morgan said, there were as many zombies in the back of the boat. Madison said she’d draw their attention, while he and Mo got away, and Mo said, this is what happened last time, isn’t it? and Morgan said, yes, and he was sorry. Madison banged the sledgehammer against the outside of the boat, bringing the zombies to her. Mo said they couldn’t leave her behind, but Madison told them to go. Mo’s foot got stuck for real in the swamp, and as Morgan fought off zombies, she flashed back to the first rescue there. Madison started banging the boat again and yelling, over here! Morgan said he didn’t think Padre was coming this time, and just as the zombies were about to overpower Madison, Grace sped up the swamp in a boat, shooting all the zombies.
Grace said she got here as fast as she could ,and Mo asked who she was. Grace said, her mother. Now let’s get the hell out of here. She’d heard the radio chatter when Madison escaped, then heard Nightingale’s message. She figured they’d go to the houseboat. Mo said, Grace was the one singing, and Grace said, it was a long time ago. Mo needed to put that out of her mind. Mo said they didn’t have to go back. Seven years ago, Morgan almost died saving her. They could do this. Padre’s been lying to her, saying Morgan was selfish and couldn’t make hard calls, but he did before and did just now. Madison could come with them. Madison said she’d only slow them down, and Mo asked, what about the other kids she’d rescued from Padre? but Madison said she couldn’t help them. Mo asked, why not, since Madison had helped her, and Grace said, it may not be that simple. They hear boats coming, and Grace said she’d radioed Padre, and they were coming. Morgan said, Padre could protect Mo in ways they couldn’t, and it wasn’t up for debate. Grace said. Mo had to go back, but Mo said she wouldn’t go back. She knew something had been missing, and it was her parents. Morgan said they weren’t her parents. Her parents were Isaac and Rachel, and they were dead. He’d made them a promise a long time ago to take care of her, and that’s why she was going back to Padre. Madison said they had a chance to be with their daughter, and they were throwing it away, but Morgan told her to run and not to make it harder than it was. Mo told her to save herself, so she could save others, but Madison said she wasn’t going to make it. Mo said, she had to try, but it was too late.
Some boats came, and Madison was grabbed by guards. Steampunk woman told Madison not to worry; she still had use for her. Madison told Mo to remember what she’d shown her, and the Padre people took Mo and Madison away. Morgan said, at least they got to see her, and Grace said, that’s what made it so hard. Grace started to leave, and Morgan asked steampunk woman what his next assignment was. She told Morgan that he was being retired as a collector. They’d invested too much in Mo. They were afraid she and Morgan might cross paths again, and now she knew he was her father. He knew what was best for her now, but that might not always be the case. She told the guards to take him away.
In Padre, Mo sat in the interrogation room, and over the intercom, Padre said, sometimes we have to learn a lesson the hard way. He was just glad she was okay. He felt she was going to play a crucial role in the next steps the settlement was about to take.
Mo told Dove that she shouldn’t have gone. She wanted to be a part of what Padre was building Lark showed her what was out there. Lark showed her how lucky she is to be here.
Padre’s voice said he was glad to hear that; they needed people like her. That’s why he was going to let this transgression slide, but future transgressions would bring harsh consequences.
Dove said she hoped Mo learned her lesson, and Mo said she did. Getting in the same arena where she faltered the last time, Mo creamed a zombie.
Padre asked if he’d have to worry about her again, but Mo said, no, sir. He asked if he had her word, and she said, yes, sir.
In the arena, Mo smiled, but then kept it to herself.
Next time, Mo says, something bad happened in there; an army gathers to fight Padre; Morgan and Mo are reunited; Padre comes after Morgan; and lots of zombies.
To All the Moms biological or not, Stepmoms, Moms-To-Be, Mother Figures, and of course Pet Moms…
(rambling, random thoughts & annoyingly detailed recaps from real time TV watching)
General Hospital
Spencer goes to Britt’s office, and says, my hero. She tells him, hold on a moment. What’s this going to cost her? He says, only a minute of her time and expertise. He promises he’ll make it worth her while. She says she doesn’t need his money, and he says, then his sparkling wit and companionship. She says she’d love that, but won’t his little Esme be jealous?
An orderly puts Ryan on his cot, but he falls over sideways. Esme comes running in like she’s a helpful person.
On the phone at Maxie’s apartment, Felicia says, Mac was giving her clear and present baby vibes… Yes, she took biology in high school. She didn’t really know what to tell him. She was completely taken aback and surprised. There’s a knock at the door, and she says, she doesn’t really know if it’s an issue; it hasn’t come up since. If she and Mac wanted to make their family bigger back in the day, they lost their shot… For some – she opens the door – it’s just not in the cards. She sees Nina standing there.
Carly sneaks back downstairs with Willow’s toothbrush in a plastic bag. Far be it for me to tell Carly how to be sneaky, but won’t Willow miss her toothbrush? Is there something about her hygiene I don’t know? As they’re about to leave, Michael and Willow walk in. Michael asks what they’re doing here, and Carly slips the bag into her purse. Willow wonders if they forgot to lock the door, but Michael says, it was locked. Drew says, sorry to break barge in. He’d like to say it was his fault, but it’s all on Carly.
On the phone at the hospital, Finn says, just because Elizabeth never spoke to Nikolas, doesn’t mean she’s not staying there. It’s a big place. Isn’t there a west wing where no one would even see her…Okay. No… They’re right. He’ll let them know when he finds her. Laura comes in and asks if he’s seen Elizabeth, but he says, he was about to ask her the same thing.
Chelsea tells Elizabeth, this presence is very clear. They don’t want this new family to be formed in this house. Elizabeth refuses to believe that. The Franco she knew and loved would want to see her happy. Is he here now? Can he hear her? Tell him that she believes he’s here. Tell him she’s ready to listen. She sees there’s a call from Finn, but ignores it, and Chelsea gets up, saying, there’s so much turbulence. Elizabeth says, she’s here, and Chelsea tells her to be careful. Elizabeth says she didn’t believe it before, but she’s listening now. Send her a sign. The door blows open, and the wind blows out the candles.
Carly says she’s pretty sure they came in together, and Drew says, if she’s not going to come clean, he will. He was walking up the driveway, and saw Carly messing with the door. If he didn’t know any better, he’d have thought she was a burglar, but it turns out she wanted what can’t be stolen. She just wanted face time with them. She knows there going through it and wanted to help. Carly says, she couldn’t get through, and just wanted to be here. Drew says, he had the key, so he thought she’d be more comfortable waiting there than in the main house. Willow says, that’s sweet of her, and thanks her. Carly says, of course (🍷), and Willow says, they were just at the cemetery, visiting Jonah’s grave. Carly says she hopes it brought Willow some solace, and Michael says, it would have if they hadn’t run into dad and Nina.
Felicia says she’ll call them later, and Nina says she was on her way home from work, and thought she’d pop by to see Maxie and the kids. Felicia says, Maxie is burning the midnight oil at Deception and the kids are asleep, and Nina says, as they should be at this hour. She didn’t realize how late it was; she’ll come back at a more appropriate time. She’s sorry; kiss the kids for her. She starts to leave, but Felicia asks if she likes popcorn. Nina says, who doesn’t like popcorn? and Felicia says, with real butter, not the fake kind. Nina says, like the only kind? and Felicia invites her in.
Spencer says, Esme has no issue with their friendship, but even still… Britt says, just don’t tell her about this conversation. Secrets and lies, the hallmark of a healthy relationship. Spencer says, come on, and she says, you come on. It’s just so Cassadine. She supposes he comes by it naturally. He asks if she’s finished, but she says she doesn’t think so. This is the most fun she’s had all day. He says, he needs her help, and she says, she’ll help him, but only if… He groans and says, oh my God, and she says he has to ask her nicely. Three words, and the voice. She takes out her phone and holds it out, and he says, pwiddy pwease, Bwitt? She laughs hysterically, and says, he was so darn cute, and almost as bratty. He says, she’s wicked, and she asks if he wants to hear it. He says, no, but she plays it anyway. He says, awesome, great, and she says, perfect. Her new ringtone. So what does he need? He takes out the pill he swiped from Esme, and asks if she can tell him what this is.
The orderly says, Esme wasn’t on the schedule tonight, but she says she had an hour. He says he has it from here, and she asks what the mess is in the hall. Is one of the inmates sick? She hopes the supervisor isn’t making rounds. He says he’ll be right back, and leaves. She closes the door, and says, not with that mess he won’t. Ryan sits up and laughs, saying, well played, my sweet child.
Finn tells Laura, Elizabeth gave him the impression she’d spoken to Nikolas about staying at Windymere, but when he talked to Nikolas, Nikolas said he hadn’t spoken to her. Ordinarily, he wouldn’t be concerned… Laura says, under these circumstances, he’s right to wonder. She just spoke to her brother Martin, and he said, Elizabeth has been looking for answers from an unlikely source. Apparently, Lucy gave Elizabeth the name of her medium. He says, and that’s where Elizabeth is. She says, shall we? and he says, we shall, and they leave.
Chelsea seems to have the chills, and Elizabeth tells her, say something. Chelsea says, so cold, and Elizabeth closes the door. She asks if Chelsea is all right, and Chelsea says, she’s not Chelsea. Elizabeth says, Franco?
Britt asks what Spencer is doing, walking around with loose meds, and he says he found it. She says, just lying on the ground? He asks if it really matters, and she says, it could, depending on what it is. He says, that’s where she comes in, and she says, give it to her. He asks if she can tell him what it is, and she says, yes, you just research the code. He says, no way. It’s really that simple. She asks what they taught him in that fancy French boarding school, and he says, Latin, Greek, table manners, conversation. She says, he has so much to learn, and scrolls on her tablet. She stops, and he says, what is it? She says, no more messing around. Whose is this?
Esme says, she thought she could finagle seeing Ryan more often, but his brother is like a human roadblock. Ryan says, Kevin is a wart. The good news is, warts can be treated. Besides, they have other priorities. How are things proceeding? She says, they’re definitely coming along. Ava and Nikolas are on the rocks, and she brought Spencer back into the fold, as promised. He says, then why is she here? and she says, she just wanted to keep him abreast. He says, rule number one, and she says, she knows the rules. He says, prove it, and she says, no unplanned, no uncontrolled communication. He says, no unplanned communication because it increases the risk of him being found out. No one can know he’s in fighting form. So he’s asking her again, why is she here? How badly did she screw things up for him?
Felicia brings out the popcorn, and sprinkles something on it. Nina asks what it is, and Felicia says, parmesan garlic. Nina approves, and says she didn’t learn much about cooking growing up, but at take-out, she’s a master. Not so much in the kitchen. Felicia says, first of all, she should know this is snacking, not cooking, but she’s happy to share her tips. She doesn’t get it when people have secret recipes and they don’t want to share. If it’s so delicious, why not share it with the world? People are funny. Nina thanks her, and Felicia says, it’s just popcorn, but Nina says, thank you for inviting me in.The Invader is set to run a huge story on her soon. Felicia says, she heard, and Felicia says, Bobbie Spencer is one of her best friends. Nina says, Carly’s mother, and Felicia nods. Nina says, and Michael’s grandmother, and Wiley’s… Felicia says, two more times. That’s who she was talking to when Nina got here. Nina wonders why Felicia didn’t slam the door in her face.
Carly says, Jonah’s grave? Is anyplace sacred to Nina? Willow says, Nina was at the cemetery to visit her daughter, and Michael says, Nina’s still clinging to this fantasy that she would have had a beautiful relationship with Nelle if she’d just been there in time to save her. Carly says, as if Nelle could have been saved, and Michael says, that ends the whole nature versus nurture debate, because Nelle clearly inherited her crazy from Nina. This conversation is creepily gossipy in tone, and it’s making me uncomfortable. Drew seems like he’s not comfortable either, and says, that’s one way to look at it. He’s just saying, if Michael is right, and it doesn’t matter by whom you’re raised, then Wiley would have inherited the crazy gene too, and he knows Michael doesn’t believe that. Michael says, no, he doesn’t.
Elizabeth says, Franco, and Chelsea touches her face, saying, as beautiful as the day I laid eyes on you. Elizabeth asks if it’s really him, and Chelsea/Franco says, no matter how many times he puts the brush to the canvas, he could never capture all of her. He could never show the world what she meant to him. Elizabeth says, she’s missed him so much, and Chelsea touches her face again, saying, don’t cry. She needs to be strong. Elizabeth says, for what? Why is he doing these things? Chelsea/Franco says, Elizabeth can’t move on until she’s at peace, and Elizabeth asks how she can be at peace without him. He says he’s always with her. Believe in herself. No matter how hard she tries, don’t look away. Elizabeth says, don’t look away from what? What does that even mean? Talk to her. Finn and Laura walk in, and Chelsea sits down on the couch, asking, what happened? Elizabeth says, Franco, come back, and Finn asks, what’s going on? Laura says, Chelsea? and Chelsea says, Mayor Collins; it’s been a long time. Elizabeth asks why they’re here, and Finn says, she never showed up at Windymere, and he got concerned. Laura mentioned she’d hooked up with this… person, so they came here looking for her. Elizabeth says, they came at the worst possible time. She was just communicating with.. Finn says, Franco’s spirit? and Elizabeth says, he was here.
Drew says he’s not defending Nina, and Michael says he knows. Drew says, but Nina is Wiley’s grandmother, and of course (🍷) they can keep him from her right now – that’s their right – but when Wiley gets older, he might want to know Nina. Michael says, when that happens, if that happens, Wiley will be armed with the knowledge of Nina’s history; what she’s done, and what she’s capable of doing. And here’s another fact, Nina is a horrible person and no amount of PR can change that. Carly says, that’s right, and suggests Michael and Willow can use some time to decompress. Michael says, that’s a good idea, and Carly says, sorry for just showing up. She promises to be in touch next time. Willow says she has an idea. Why don’t they make this easier? She gives Carly a key, and says, Carly can let herself in next time. Michael says, but still call, and Carly says, she will. She hugs them, and she and Drew leave.
Britt asks, whose is it? and Spencer says, what is it? She says, she asked him a question, and he says, he asked a question first. Answer his and he’ll answer hers. She says, it’s an opioid analgesic, and he says, so it’s like heroin? She says, not quite, El Chapo. It’s a controlled substance and it definitely can become habit forming. It shouldn’t be rolling around on the ground for a teenager to find or swipe from someone’s medicine cabinet. He asks if it’s for pain, and she says, severe pain management. Now it’s his turn. He says, it’s Esme’s, and Britt asks if she gets headaches. Does she complain about indigestion or a dry mouth, because those are some of the side effects. She hands it back to him, and he says, are there others? She says, yes. It can make you tired, nervous… He asks, what happens when you mix it with alcohol?
Keeping her wrist being her back, Esme says, everything’s fine. She hasn’t failed Ryan, she swears. He says, she could never fail him. She’s his one and only. But something’s clearly amiss. Come on. Tell daddy what it is. She says, Spencer has been behaving strangely, and he asks, in what way? She says, he’s been reluctant to be with her, and Ryan asks how long it’s been. She says, they haven’t been intimate since Spencer got out of Spring Ridge. Spencer says, it’s because they’re learning to trust each other again, and he wants it to be special. Ryan says, and it’s unusual for Spencer to be distant? and she says, yes. He says, it’s unusual for any man of his age and appetites, especially with such a willing partner. He supposes it’s possible Spencer has a romantic streak. What else? She says, it’s probably nothing, but he says, spit it out. She says she went to find Spencer at Kelly’s today, but he wasn’t there. Cameron said he was running an errand for work, but she found him at Windymere, and he was going through her things. Ryan asks if Spencer found anything, and she says, the meds she used to drug Trina were in there, and her nanny Maggie’s letters. He gets up, and says, you fool. Spencer is on to her.
Chelsea says, Franco was here? Was she his vessel? That would explain why she lost time. Elizabeth says, it’s true. She reached out to him and he came. Finn says, that’s wonderful, and Elizabeth says, she spoke with him through Chelsea. He told her to be strong and believe in herself, and not look away. Finn says, and that means something to her, and she says, it just happened. Doesn’t he see? All the strange things that were happening; it was Franco sending them a message. He was here. He’s been here all along.
Britt wonders why Spencer is asking about mixing the pill with alcohol, and he asks if that would be a problem. She says, a very big problem. Just one of those on top of booze would make a person very sloppy. He says, sloppy how? and she says, they’d stagger. They’d fall behind in conversation. They’d just not be themselves. Think of it like this. Take normal drunken behavior and amplify it two or three times. It could even give you a seizure. He asks if it could make you forget things, and she says, it can cause short term memory loss, like blacking out after drinking. She asks if he’s seen this in Esme, and he says, no, not in Esme. Britt says, enough of this – she closes the door – pharma consult he has her doing. This is serious. What’s going on?
Esme doesn’t see how Spencer could know anything, and Ryan says, he’s sleeping alone. He’s drawn to another girl; he’s looking through her things. She says, there was nothing to find. She got rid of the prescription label, and Maggie’s letters don’t refer to him. He says, it doesn’t matter what Spencer did or didn’t find; he looked. He’s as false as she is – worse. He shared his suspicions with Elizabeth Baldwin’s whelp. She says, they don’t know that, but he says, of course (🍷) they do. Otherwise, Cameron wouldn’t have lied about where Spencer was. It was right in front of her, but she was too arrogant to see it. He warned her about that boy. He told her to remain on task, but she just couldn’t give up her little toy. Now here they are, and everything they’ve built is in danger of crashing down. She says, wrong. Everything he’s built. There’s still time for her.
Nina says, as Bobbie’s best friend, she’s surprised Felicia didn’t sic the police on her, or at the very least, her husband. Felicia says, Mac has bigger fish to fry, and as James’s grandmother, she has a responsibility to uphold. Maxie loved Nathan, and Nathan loved Nina. Nathan was Nina’s brother, and James is Nina’s nephew. That makes them family. Nina says, that acknowledgement could cost her, and Felicia says, with Bobbie? She thinks they’ve gotten past that. They have their differences, and they’ve gotten down in the mud now and then, but there’s a bond there. The sacrifice Bobbie and Tony made is always just under the surface. Some ties just can’t be cut. Nina says, including the tie with her? and Felicia says, she knows the pain of motherhood when it’s staring her in the face, and she’d be a liar if she didn’t say that in looking Nina in the eye, she doesn’t see a bit of herself.
Michael asks Willow, what’s wrong, besides the obvious of course (🍷)? She says she was glad to see he and Drew could have a civil conversation about Nina. He says, he and Drew have a solid relationship. They respect and trust each other, and Willow says she can tell. He says, even though Drew has more grace where Nina is concerned, he knows Drew is just looking out for Wiley. She says she got nervous when the subject came up, and he asks, why? She says, after what happened with his father, she didn’t want the same thing to go down with him and Drew.
At the hospital, Drew asks if Carly wants to tell him why she didn’t talk to him the whole way home. She says, because that was some stunt he pulled back there, and he says, here he thought he came to her rescue – twice. She says, if she has some explaining to do, let her explain, and he says, she was like a deer in the headlights; he had to come up with something. She asks if he had to sing Grandma Nina’s praises, but he says he didn’t. She says, he knows what she means. What was the point of that? He says he believes it’s in her purse right now; DNA from a stolen brush and a glass, that together might prove Nina is Willow’s mother. If that’s the case – she says, it’s a big if – isn’t it better that Michael and Nina aren’t in a battle right now?
Elizabeth says, she’s telling Finn, Franco was here. He doesn’t believe her. He says, that’s not it. He gets that she wants to believe it. She says, he thinks she’s losing it, and Laura tells her, no one said that. Finn says he thinks she’s frustrated and angry after months of searching for answers and coming up empty. Laura says, she thinks Elizabeth is considering some solutions that are… Elizabeth says, crazy, but Finn says, unorthodox; that doesn’t mean it’s impossible. Laura tells Elizabeth to come home with her, but Elizabeth says, there’s nothing to be afraid here of anymore. It was Franco all along.
Britt says, if Esme is in any way misusing these drugs, Spencer needs to help her put a stop to it. He says he doesn’t know anything for sure, and she says, even if he suspects it… He says, he’ll take care of it, okay? She asks, how? and he says, he’ll take care of it. He starts to leave, but she grabs his arm, saying, they’re not done. She can’t stand by in good conscience and not do anything. He says, it’s a little late in life for her to grow a conscience, and she says, ouch. He says he’s sorry, but he came to her for information, not a lecture. Now that he knows what’s what, he’s good. She says, enabling Esme does no good. If he wants his girlfriend to be healthy and be in a healthy relationship, he can’t let this go on. He wonders what the hell she would know about a healthy relationship.
Ryan asks if Esme is threatening him, but she says she’s just exploring her options. She’s sure the authorities would rather learn about his status update than come after her. He says, she’d sacrifice him just like that? and she says, if that meant saving herself, in a heartbeat. He says she reminds him of her mother, and she says, how so? He says, he learned early never to turn his back on her. He’s glad see she inherited her mother’s instinct for self-preservation. Now let’s start over, shall we? They’re all each other has; they have to stick together. He pats the spot on the bed next to him, and she sits. She says, she can’t believe Spencer would do this to her. It hurts so much. He says he knows the feeling. You give yourself so much to someone. You lay yourself at the mercy of another person and they just exploit it. She says, manipulate it, and he says, crush it between their forefinger and thumb. He flashes back to a physical fight with a woman (presumably Esme’s mother), who’s about to stab him with a kitchen knife. He says, pure agony. There’s only one thing to do in return; make them all pay.
Nina asks what Felicia sees of herself in her, and Felicia says, a gorgeous, badass woman with feet made for kicking butt. She sees a woman who’s made a lot of mistakes; the kind not easily lived down. Nina says, Felicia did, and Felicia says she didn’t have a choice. Nina says, there’s always a choice, and Felicia says, not a good one. It was either spending the rest of her days in the shadow of her mistakes, and watch her daughter walk away, or facing her and fixing things. The only real shame is in giving up. Nina wonders what she’s going to say to James if he comes to her with a fist full of Invader newspapers, demands answers. Felicia jokes, they’ll be dead then, and Nina asks what she tells him. Felicia says she imagines Nina will tell him the same thing she’ll tell Wiley when he asks the same questions. That day is coming too.
Michael says he thought Willow was on the same page about his dad. She said she was behind him 100%. She says she meant it. She completely supports his decision, even if she’s not sure it’s the right one. He loves his father. Can he honestly say it doesn’t hurt? He says, of course (🍷) it hurts, and she says, when he hurts, she hurts too, and so does Wiley. Their son is sensitive; he knows when something is wrong. They can’t shield him from every bad feeling, every loss – they wouldn’t want to – but they can shield him from some of them. It takes sacrifice and compromise on their part, but isn’t Wiley worth it? He asks who she wants him to compromise with – his dad, Nina, or both?
Drew asks Carly to think about it one second. If Michael goes too far with Nina, and she turns out to be Willow’s mother, it will change things for Willow, whether she wants it to or not. He’s just trying to turn down the temperature. She says she appreciates that, and appreciates his help, but his services are no longer needed. He says, so he’s dismissed now? and she says, it doesn’t involve him, but he says he begs to differ. He can’t unknow what he knows. They’re in this together. She asks what that means. Is he going to blow this whole thing wide open? He says, no; is she? She tells him, she’s certainly not going to say anything right now. If Nina turns out to be Willow’s mother, it’s going to be a huge problem for Michael and Willow. What if the whole thing turns out not to be true? She’ll have set a hideous chain of events in motion for no reason. He asks, what if it is true? What if what Harmony said turns out to be legit? What is she going to do?
Laura tells Elizabeth that she and Doc have been trying to keep Jake and Aiden well entertained, but she thinks it would help if they saw their mother tonight. Elizabeth says it would help her to see them too, and Laura says she’ll get Elizabeth’s purse. Elizabeth says she’ll call Chelsea; they’ll do this again. Chelsea says she’s sure Elizabeth has a lot of questions. The answers are there for the taking. Elizabeth asks if she’ll see Finn later, and he says, absolutely. He’ll make sure everything is locked up. She thanks him, and leaves with Laura, and I wonder why they’re leaving two people who don’t live there to lock the door. And why is Laura treating Elizabeth like a psychiatric patient? Chelsea gets her purse, and Finn says, leaving so soon? She says she’s parched, and he says, I’ll bet. Channeling spirits must drain you. She says, it does actually, and he says, what about lying to a vulnerable woman. What does that do to you? She says she wouldn’t know, but he would.
Esme asks, is that even possible, if Spencer is on to her? and Ryan says, he is, but he hasn’t found anything useful yet, or he would have used it. She got rid of the evidence that would implicate her in the video scheme, yeah? She says she did, and he says, then the best Spencer can hope for is to exonerate Trina. That doesn’t mean Esme can rest on her laurels. Time’s running out; she needs to recommit herself to the task. She says, destroying Ava and Nikolas, and he says he knows she’s disinclined, but sacrifices have to be made. The only way to truly break their bond is to seduce the prince. She can do that, can’t she? For him? She says, if only to see the look on Spencer’s face when he finds out, and Ryan says, good. She says, and when that’s done? He says, then they turn their attention to the rest of their enemies. Each and every one.
Spencer says, he and Esme have been together a long time, and Britt says, so? He says, so what about her? What’s the longest relationship she’s had? She asks what he’s doing, and he says, just pointing out facts. She had that weird obsession with Emma’s dad, and the blink-and-you-miss-it engagement to his father. She says, wow. So much for Spencer wishing Nikolas realized what he had in her. Spencer says, he was trying to be nice, and she says, noted. He says, has she ever been in love, and had that love returned? She doesn’t say anything, and he says he didn’t think so. She says, he’s right. She knows nothing about love, and at this rate, she never will. He asks what that’s supposed to mean, and she says, good luck with his girlfriend. And when it explodes in his face, don’t come crying to her.
Finn says, Madame Nutjob, or whatever her name is, he’s not the one lying to Elizabeth. Chelsea says, really? Elizabeth asked if he thought she was crazy, and he did everything in his power to dodge the question. He says, she can’t flip this around; she’s not smart enough to do that. She’s preying on a very fragile human being. She says, she gave comfort and support to someone who asked for it. Can he say the same? He tells her, don’t ever contact Elizabeth again, and opens the door. Chelsea says, Elizabeth said she’d call, and when she does, she’ll save him a seat. Who knows? Maybe this time he can come with an open mind and actually help the woman he claims to care about find the answers she so desperately craves. She walks out.
Willow says she’s nowhere near entertaining a truce with Nina, but she won’t give up on him and Sonny, and hopes he doesn’t either. He says, his father put someone who actively hurt his wife and children ahead of his family. He can’t act like that didn’t happen or ignore that. He’s Sonny’s son, but first and foremost, he’s Wiley’s father. She and Wiley will always be his priority. And he’ll never let anything come between them.
Nina says, if Wiley asks about the things she’s done, she’ll own them, and Felicia says she sees no reason to treat James any differently. Just make sure she sticks around to answer those questions. Nina takes Felicia’s hand, and says, don’t worry. She’s not going anywhere.
Drew asks if Carly is going to tell Willow and Nina what she knows, but she says she doesn’t know anything. He says, when she does know, and she says, if the unthinkable happens, if Nina turns out to be Willow’s mother, she’ll do the right thing. She sees Britt, and runs over to her. She asks who she sees about a DNA test, and Britt looks at Drew.
Tomorrow, Ned tells Brook, they’re planning for a future with no place for him; Martin tells Valentin, if the family remains a united front, he doesn’t stand a chance; Jordan asks if TJ has something to report; and Sonny says he’s got to put a stop to that.
It still doesn’t exactly explain things, but it sounds like she’s in a lose-lose situation. Will she go the way of Carlton, and be a one season Housewife?
Whether winding up a work week or enjoying your part in the Great Resignation, stop by tomorrow for some soap, tea, words to take note of, and a musical selection. Until then, stay safe, stay taking in your local culture, and stay remembering the only real shame is in giving up.
(rambling, random thoughts & annoyingly detailed recaps from real time TV watching)
General Hospital
Britt wakes to find Jason sitting there with a gun, and asks what he’s doing. He says, keeping watch, and she says, he’s been shot. Not only should he not be sitting up, he should be sleeping. That’s how you heal. He says, if he lies down, he’ll fall asleep again, and she says, ding-ding-ding. He says if he falls asleep, he can’t keep watch, and she asks if she’s been unclear on this concept. He’s her patient. He says, no. They’re fugitives.
Josslyn walks into the giant moss bowl kitchen, and Carly asks if her dad didn’t want the ride. Josslyn says, not so much, and Carly says she’s sorry she wasn’t home. She’s sorry Josslyn couldn’t get in touch with her last night. She knows it must have been scary not hearing from her. Josslyn says, she’s there now, and Carly says, she is, and wants to know everything. Starting with why Josslyn didn’t go to the tournament. Josslyn doesn’t say anything, and Carly says she’s never seen Josslyn do this before. Josslyn says, do what? and Carly says, hide from her problems.
Nina sees the Tan-O is closed, but peeks in to see Sonny straightening up. She goes in, and Sonny asks if she’d like some coffee. She says she’ll get it herself, and he says he just made a fresh pot. She goes behind the bar, and he says he’s sorry if he made her uncomfortable last night. She says he didn’t, and he asks if she’s sure. The last thing he wants to do… She says, they’re good, and he says he’s got some news he wants to tell her. She says, oh no, and he says he saw Eli and one of the guys from the firehouse dance. She says, as in one of the guys who tried to rob the place? and he says, Elijah paid his bail. He’s bad news. She shouldn’t go out with him. Eli walks in.
On the phone, Brook says, how many times must she reassure them? The baby is very important to her; she won’t take any risks. Maxie says, she can’t believe she’s saying this, but with Britt gone, Brooke is the only person she can trust to protect her baby from Peter. Brook says, and she will. She’ll protect the baby no matter what. Maxie just has to trust her. Maxie says, she has no choice, and Brooke says, that’s the spirit. She hangs up, and nearly runs into Ned, who says, hello, daughter.
Cyrus sits down near Peter at the MetroCourt bar, and Peter says he heard Cyrus had trouble at the hospital. Cyrus asks if Peter is looking for a scoop, but Peter says he’s just a concerned citizen. After all, a dangerous criminal is on the loose. So tell him, how far does Cyrus think a man in Jason’s condition can go? Cyrus says, probably further than Peter wants him to.
Maxie opens the door to Sam, who says, she sounded urgent. Is everything okay? Maxie says, no, pulling Sam inside. She’s about to give birth, and Sam’s ex kidnapped her OB/GYN. She needs Sam to get Jason to bring Britt home, like, immediately.
Peter tells Cyrus, his reporters tell him there were signs of a struggle in Britt’s office. He wonders if they were after Britt or Jason. Cyrus asks if that concerns Peter, that his sister is in the hands of a murderer. Peter says, not particularly. He and Britt are only newly acquainted, to say nothing of the fact that she was disloyal to him. Cyrus says, Britt is his fiancé’s doctor, is she not? and Peter says, there are plenty of other doctors who can deliver babies. Cyrus says, so if Britt were to disappear permanently… Peter says he would have no problem with that.
Jason tells Britt, it’s a nice barn, and she says, he told her that they couldn’t go to a safe house, so this is the best she could do. He asks if she knows who owns it, and she says, Nikolas Cassadine. They’re on a nature preserve. She thinks Nikolas’s uncle originally bought it to go hunting, but they used to bring Spencer there to go hiking sometimes. She doubts anyone has used it since Spencer was shipped off to boarding school. Jason says, the hay is fresh, and the building is maintained, which means there’s got to be a caretaker. Somebody could walk in on them at any time. She says, hence him sitting up and keeping watch, and he says, rule number one when you’re on the run (ha-ha! that rhymes), you have to sleep in shifts. She says he’s nursing a gunshot wound and a stab wound, and he says, she’s worn out. When he woke up, he saw she had fallen asleep. She says, sorry, and he says she doesn’t have to be sorry. He’s just trying to explain. She guesses she makes a crappy fugitive, and he says, kind of surprising. She asks, why? and he says he thought she’d know how this whole thing works. She says, because she was on the run with her despicable, psychopathic father? He nods, and she says, they hid out in five-star hotels, so she’s never done the whole barn sleeping thing. She’s not loving it.
Carly asks if Josslyn took off for Pennsylvania to hide from her teammates or herself. It’s not the answer. Josslyn says she wasn’t hiding; that’s not it. Carly asks, then what is it? It’s not like Josslyn, abandoning her teammates, and not sitting on the sidelines, cheering them on, and Josslyn says she knows. It’s just… Carly says, what? and Josslyn says she was just so disappointed about her ankle. Carly says, and being waitlisted, and Josslyn says she didn’t know she was like this. She thought she was a team player. Carly says she is, but Josslyn says she’s not. Apparently, she’s all about herself, and if things out going well for her, then too bad for everyone else. Carly says, that’s not true. She wants Josslyn to think about something. Everything Josslyn is going through, the struggles, are just going to make her better down the road. Josslyn asks how she knows that, and Carly says because she knows they’re not born perfect. It’s the obstacles they push through that make them strong, and brave, and resilient. Josslyn says, it’s just been really scary, and Carly says, what has? Josslyn says, this feeling of being out of control, and Carly says, yeah; it’s a terrible feeling. Carly’s phone rings, and Carly says she’s sorry, but she has to take this. Josslyn asks who’s phone it is, and Carly says, hers. It’s the only way Jason can talk to her. She answers, and Jason says, it’s him.
Carly asks if he’s okay. He says he is, and she asks if he’s just telling her that. He says he’s really okay, and she asks him, hold on for a second. She asks Josslyn if she’ll go upstairs and check on Donna, and Josslyn obliges, asking Carly to tell Jason that she said hi. She leaves, and Carly asks where he is, and he says, someplace safe. She asks why they had to leave so soon, and he says, Dante called Spinelli to the PCPD, and did it using Sam’s phone. Dante is a special case; he’s part of the family. That’s why the best thing is to keep moving, and avoid the safe houses. She wonders what the deal is with Dante. Why did he pick this exact moment to slap on the badge? He says he doesn’t know, but he’s sure Dante thinks he’s doing the right thing, like the rest of them.
Ned tells Brooke, he assumes that was Valentin. All that baby talk, who else could it be? She says, yes. She’s got quite the worrywart on her hands. He says he’s proud of her. She stayed strong, and told him she’s going to do what’s best for the baby. Motherhood is starting to look good on her.
Sam says she and Jason aren’t together anymore, but Maxie says he’ll come home if Sam asks him to. Tell him the kids are in trouble. Sam says, that is really cruel. She’s not lying about the kids. Maxie tells her, then come up with something else. Just get Britt back asap. Sam asks if she’s worried about the baby, but Maxie says, the baby is perfect. It’s the baby’s father that’s the problem.
Carly says she knows everything is a disaster, but there’s some good news. He asks if it’s about the meeting with the Five Families linguine with red clam sauce. What happened? She says they backed her, and he asks if Cyrus was there. She says, in all his hideous glory, and he says, that’s great she got Cyrus to stop, but don’t do anything else. She says she’s got it, and he says, does she? She says she hears him, and he says, good. She asks if he’s really okay. Is he in a lot of pain? He says he’s okay, and she says she’s so sorry she forced this on him. Her plan didn’t work, and he’s paying the price. He insists he’s fine, but she says he’s not fine; he was shot. He says Britt patched him up.
Britt asks what brings Ned by, and adds, that sounds weird since it’s his house. Ned says, it’s Monica’s house, and they both say, Alan gave it to her. He says he came to apologize. In all this talk of pregnancy, and Valentin, and ELQ stock, he realized he hasn’t told her how excited he is to welcome her child; his grandchild. When Lois was pregnant with her, he sang to the baby. They’d heard if the baby was spoken to in utero, it would recognize their voices when it was born, and it would be a comfort to the baby. He doesn’t know if that’s true, but from the moment Brook was born, she loved to be sung to. Her whole face would light up. She says she remembers. Not from birth but, you know. He says he wants to carry on the tradition, so the baby know how much it’s loved. She says he wants to sing to her stomach? and he asks if that’s okay. She says, of course (🍷) it’s okay, and he says he’s just being a stand-in until she gets her voice back. He plays the guitar and sings a lullaby. Olivia comes in, and asks, what’s going on? and Ned says he’s singing to the baby.
Jason thanks Carly for the blood, and she suggests Frank come and get him; they can work together. He says, no, and she asks, why not? He says for the same reason she’s using a burner phone. She’s being watched. She asks if she’s supposed to trust him alone with Britt, and he says she’s supposed to trust him to figure out what’s next. She says she’s not good at sitting back and doing nothing, and he says he knows it’s hard, but he’s at his limit. If she gets in trouble, he might not be able to get her out. She says she’s not going to get in trouble, and he says, please. She insists she won’t, and says she’ll maintain until he gets back. Does he have any idea when that will be? He says, he’ll figure it out as he goes, and she tells him, stay in touch. If he needs help, call her. He’d better be telling the truth about being okay. He says he’s hanging up now. Everything is okay. Britt asks how it’s going in Mob Land, and he says he’s sorry he dragged her into this. She tells him, don’t you dare apologize to me.
Nina asks Eli how it’s going, and he says he had a great night’s sleep, and already had a productive morning. She asks, how? and he says, actually, it has to do with her. She says he has to tell her now, and he says he contacted a friend of his in real estate, and has a couple of leads on places for her. She says, that’s sweet, but he didn’t have to. He says he knows she wants to wait on the celebration, but she says she thinks she’s changing her tune about that. Why wait to be settled before she has fun? She’d love to have dinner with him. He says he’ll text her later, and they can iron out the details. (Is this dinner, or a business plan? How many details have to be ironed out?) He passes Sonny, and nods, saying, just Mike. He leaves, and Sonny asks, what was that about? He told her to stay away from Eli, and she’s doing the exact opposite.
Carly asks herself how she could be so stupid. Josslyn hears her, and says, mom…?
Sam says, the last she heard, Maxie was supposed to be bedrest, and reevaluating her situation with Peter. Maxie says, it’s not exactly like that, and Sam asks, what is it like exactly? Maxie says, Peter needs to believe stress-free and quiet is what she needs, so that’s what the doctor told him. Sam says, Britt? and Maxie says, right. Britt was running interference with Peter. That’s why she needs Jason to bring Britt home. Sam says, they both know Britt wasn’t kidnapped. If she’s there, it’s for her own reasons. If Maxie needs help with Peter interference, she would be all in.
Peter says, things are looking up, and Cyrus says, are they? Peter asks why Cyrus is so tense. They put their plan to work, and it’s going their way. Cyrus calls him an idiot, and asks if he didn’t realize they both most likely only have a week to live.
Josslyn asks, what’s wrong? but Carly says, nothing. It was good news; it’s great that Jason is safe. It’s all she needs. Josslyn says, then why is she upset? and Carly says, because it’s all her fault. Everything that happened is on her. Josslyn says, that’s crazy. It’s not Carly’s fault that someone killed Franco, and Jason got blamed. It’s not her fault Sonny died. As much as she loves Sonny and Jason, she knows they chose the business. Jason decided to escape, and that’s on him. Carly says Jason didn’t want to do any of it. She made him.
Britt says when she thanked Jason for saving her life, she wasn’t just being polite. Cyrus’s men were about to shoot her up, and she knows what the drug is; she studied it. So don’t be all noble and chivalrous by apologizing. She knew Cyrus was a pig, and couldn’t stand by and let him do his thing. She investigated him, so don’t act like he brought her in kicking and screaming. She initiated this mess, and makes her own choices and decisions; not him. On top of it, he has zero sense, sitting up when he could pop his stiches. He asks why she’s so mad, and she says she can’t handle it. She had enough going on in her life, and now she’s stuck here with him and his gunshot wound. No offense, but she can’t do this. She says she’s out, and leaves.
Ned gives Brook a CD, and tells her, it’s filled with songs for the baby. He’s hoping she’ll play it whenever she can. There are a few Eddie Maine classics on there. She thanks him, they hug, and he says he loves her. He guesses he’ll be going, but Olivia says she was just headed to the kitchen to prep lunch. Does he want to join her? He says he’d love nothing more, and Britt asks, is there any sushi? Just kidding. Ned laughs, and he and Olivia head for the kitchen.
Maxie tells Sam that she could use all the help she can get with James, being pregnant, and the new nurse Peter insisted on hiring. She’s interviewing a nurse today. The nurse is supposed to relieve her stress, but it’s just another person for her to handle. Sam says she can help with that, and Maxie says she appreciates it. Sam suggests Dante can help as well, but Maxie doesn’t think that’s a good idea. Sam says, why not? and Maxie says, Dante has a lot on his plate, and he’s reacclimating to being home. Sam says, what better way than to have a purpose? Dante is one of Maxie’s very best friends/ Maxie says, she ran the spectrum with Dante, from refusing to listen, to being openly hostile when he expressed concern about her marrying Peter. In retrospect, he was right; Peter couldn’t be trusted. A lot of people warned her, but Dante had a fresh perspective, being newly home. If she had listened… which she didn’t; she completely shut down. She can’t ask Dante to please help. Sam says Dante is a hero with a heart of gold, and one of Maxie’s best friends. He’d love to help. She’s calling him right now. Maxie says, don’t.
Sonny tells Nina that he understands Lenny and Phyllis have a history with Eli. They’re blinded be the memories of taking Eli in, but her, he doesn’t understand how she can want to go out with Eli. She says she’s trying to tell… He asks if she doesn’t see what’s going on. Eli embezzled from the company in San Francisco, and tried taking over the Tan-O. He’s shady as all hell, and now she wants to go out to dinner with him? She says she does, but not for the reasons Sonny thinks.
Carly says, when she met Jason, she was just a couple years older than Josslyn. She was a ball of jealousy and ambition, lashing out in a million different directions. She was the epitome of selfish. She met Jason, and for the first time in her life, she had a friend. He stuck by her when she didn’t deserve it. She made mess after mess, asked Jason to fix it, and he would. She knew he’d come through, even when she was wrong. She took advantage of the privilege. She knew what she wanted to do, and forced Jason to go along with it. Now, he’s out there hurt, his legal problems are ten million times worse, and he’s all alone. She knows he has Britt to take care of him, but… Josslyn says she doesn’t know who Carly is talking about, because it’s not Jason.
Britt comes back with coffee, and doesn’t see Jason. She hears something, and turns around to see him dressed. She asks what he’s doing, and he says, what? She says she just freaked out about him sitting up. Does he think it’s wise to be up and walking? He says he needed to move, but she says, what he needs is rest. He thinks he’s a tough guy, and has it all figured out. She hands him a coffee, and tells him to have some before he bleeds out. He thanks her, and she says, no problem. She pities every doctor who ever worked on him – ever. The worst part is that he’s going to live. He says, that’s the worst part? and she tells him, he just says he’s going to walk around 12 hours after surgery, and he does it. He says he wasn’t sure if she left, and he’d have to get out on his own, but she says, first of all, he has a phone. One call to Carly, and the National Guard will be there to get him. Besides, he knew she wasn’t going to leave him. Jason says he did know that.
Cyrus tells Peter, Jason is on the loose. He doesn’t know much about Jason, but he knows Jason is an expert killer. Peter says, an expert killer who happens to be injured, but Cyrus says, they don’t know how badly. If Jason survives, he’s going to come after them with both barrels. He hopes Peter has upped his security, like he did. Peter thanks him for the tip, and says he’ll take it under advisement. Cyrus says, think about it. Sonny was in power all that time. It’s not because of some special business savvy, but because Jason is that good. Sonny didn’t do any hard work; he palmed it off on his right hand man. Peter asks if Cyrus is saying that Jason can’t be dealt with, and Cyrus says, anyone can be dealt with, but dropping his guard would be a monumental mistake. Peter asks Cyrus to excuse him; he has business to attend to. Peter walks over to where a woman is waiting, and says, Nurse Jennings? He thanks her for taking the time for a pre-interview. She asks him to call her Chloe, and he tells her, as he said on the phone, his fiancé is pregnant and needs bedrest. He wants to make sure she’s as comfortable as possible. It’s his first child. She tells him, say no more. She’ll put any and all fears at rest. He says, he feels the MetroCourt is too public to discuss a sensitive matter, and asks if they can go somewhere more private.
Sam asks if Maxie is that horrified, but Maxie says, not horrified, just reluctant. The nurse will be there any minute, and she has to focus on that. She’ll think about what Sam can do to help, and let her know. Sam says she can stay, and be an extra set of eyes and ears for Maxie for the nurse, but Maxie says she’s got this. She doesn’t want to be intimidating, and she’s good at judging complete strangers. Sam says, that’s true, but she’s not letting Maxie off the hook. Maxie is putting her to work with this whole Peter thing. Maxie says, absolutely. Love you. Bye. She closes the door in Sam’s face.
Josslyn suggests she and Carly play a game; true or false. Carly laughs and says, all right, and Josslyn tells her, Jason always says and does what he thinks is right. Carly says, true, and Josslyn says, Jason cares about other people’s opinions. Carly laughs and says, false, and Josslyn says, Jason lives by his own code, and doesn’t worry about offending anyone else. Carly says, true, and Josslyn says, when Oscar was dying, she was totally unfair to Jason. She was awful, and he just took it. Not because he couldn’t push back, but because pushing back didn’t feel right. Her point is, no one makes Jason do something he doesn’t want to, but Carly says, except she’s the one person who can. She’s always been that person. It’s like this amazing power she has, and she abused it a lot when she was young. She thought she’d learned not to, but she was wrong. She wipes tears from her eyes, and says, if she’s learned anything, it’s to be clear on why she’s doing what she’s doing. She told herself it was for Jason, but it wasn’t; it was for herself. She lost Sonny, and couldn’t bear to lose someone else, especially her best friend.
Britt asks why Jason isn’t having Carly come get him. It’s not like Carly is her best friend, but it seems like a nice option at this juncture. Jason says, Dante complicates things, and she says she heard him talking about Dante. He says, Dante is Sonny’s son, which could work for them, but he’s an ex-cop, and it sounds like he’s rejoining the force. Dante is a walking conflict of interest. Sonny’s people never know how far they can push. Britt says, so Dante is a decent guy, but a better detective, and Jason says, Dante has different motives than him. Even with the best of intentions, Dante could mess things up. Britt says, it does complicate things, and he says, if Carly tries to help or covers for him, it will implicate her. That’s the worst case scenario. Britt says, so on a scale of not-so-bad to code red, Carly being implicated is a ten, and him bleeding to death is barely a two. He says, he’s not bleeding to death; she did a great job. She says she knows he went to medical school in another life, but she’s not a surgeon. She did the best she could, but what if it’s not enough?
Ned thanks Olivia, who says, he did all the chopping, and thanks him. He says he thinks Olivia is a good influence on Brook. She’s an amazing mother, and it’s clearly rubbed off on Brook. She asks why he’s saying that, and he says, it was a different vibe. Brook’s maternal instincts are kicking in, and she’s taking the baby seriously. Brook listens in, and he says, she’s finally seeing the baby as a person, not just ammunition against Valentin. Olivia says she’s glad he thinks she’s making a difference, but he should take some credit too. The songs he recorded, she can’t think of a more perfect gift. He says he’s excited about being a grandfather, and Olivia says she’s excited about the baby too. She walks him to the door, and he says, it feels like a new chapter. She says, maybe it is, and he leaves. Olivia she goes upstairs, and Brook watches, looking worried.
Maxie answers the door to Nurse Jennings, but she’s not the Nurse Jennings who was at the MetroCourt.
In an alleyway, Peter looks at Chloe Jennings’s driver’s license, and puts it back in her wallet. He throws her bag into the dumpster, and removes his gloves. Seriously? It’s a wonder Peter hasn’t been caught yet. That’s pretty sloppy. He didn’t even try to hide it in the dumpster, and a whole room of people saw him leave with her. Suspension of disbelief officially suspended.
Nina tells Sonny that she believes something is off with Eli, and she certainly doesn’t trust him. Sonny asks, then why? and she says, obviously, Eli likes her. She can use that to see what he’s up to. She’s going to play good cop, since Sonny has the bad cop role down. She’s taking the sweeter route. She’s going to cozy up to Eli, and get him to let down his guard. Sonny says he doesn’t like it, but she says she’s not asking for his permission. Are they just going to stand around, and let Eli take advantage of Lenny and Phyllis? He says, no; that’s why he gets in Eli’s face. She asks how that’s working for him? She needs to do this before Eli does more damage. Is he in? He asks if he has a choice, and she laughs.
Josslyn takes Carly’s hands, and says she hears what Carly is saying, but now she wants Carly to hear her. If Jason did this because it’s important to her, then that’s the most important thing to him. If he didn’t think it would work, he wouldn’t have done it. Carly is always telling her that Jason doesn’t pass judgement. Why is she doing that now? Carly asks if she isn’t the one who’s supposed to be imparting wisdom, and Josslyn says it’s supposed to be Carly’s job, but she’s giving Carly a breather just this once. Carly hugs Josslyn, and says she loves her so much. Josslyn says she loves Carly too.
Jason tells Britt, if he collapses and bleeds to death, she needs to go to the police and say she was kidnapped at gunpoint. She knows nothing. As far as everyone is concerned, they think she’s a hostage. She says she has a better idea. She can drink some coffee while he sleeps. She promises to keep an eye out. The best thing for her is knowing he’s resting and healing. He says, fine, and she thanks him. She helps him down to a blanket on the floor, telling him to take his time. He lies down, and says, if she hears… She says she’ll wake him up. She promises. He says, okay, and closes his eyes. She sits, watching him.
Tomorrow, Sam asks Carly if that’s all she knows or it’s all she’s willing to tell Sam, Peter tells someone they’ll do exactly as they discussed, and Dante asks why Brook is defending Britt so hard.
Below Deck Sailing Yacht
Or as I like to call it, Summer House on the Water. Is it over yet?
Marina Lav. Alli tells Sydney, she’s tried to be respectful. Her and Gary’s flirtation grew into a connection. Gary says he’s sorry he has feelings for Alli, and Alli says she would never upset Sydney to this level if it didn’t mean anything. She doesn’t want Sydney to cry, but Sydney says she has no tears in her soul for either of them. Why is she being brought into this? They’re effing adults. Alli whines that Sydney is being so cold to her, and Sydney says, leave her alone. She moves to another part of the boat, saying, they’re such a-holes. Alli says she wouldn’t argue if she didn’t like Gary, and he says he likes her too. Alli says she’s overwhelmed, and starts to walk inside. Gary asks if she’s really going to leave him like this. She says she can’t, and he whimpers, what has he done? In Gary’s interview, he says he hooked up with Sydney on the first night when they were both drunk. It was stupid. Gary and I finally agree on something. He asks Alli to come cuddle in his cabin. Sydney says she’s had enough action for tonight, and goes to bed.
Crew day off. JL hunts for his shirt, but Dani asks what she’s going to wear, and walks out wearing his shirt. Gary tells Alli, next time, they go to her cabin. Alli says, great idea. Dani says she should not have drinken [sic] as many drinks, and JL doesn’t even know what he needs right now. Sydney mumbles to Colin about what happened, and he says Gary and Alli shouldn’t have done that; it was pretty obvious she was okay. Alli goes back to her own cabin, and gets in bed. She asks if Sydney is okay, and in Sydney’s interview, she says she doesn’t have to tell Alli how she’s feeling. How many times does she have to say it until it registers – leave her alone.
Glenn says, the weather is picking up, and he wants to get out asap. Gary asks if JL had a bump last night, and JL says he did. In my day, that meant a line of cocaine, but these people have more terms for having sex than I can count. In Dani’s interview, she says, to be honest, she doesn’t remember much about last night. As much as Gary tried, she was the most successful – Alli and JL – and no one is angry at her. Write it down, Gary. Maybe you’ll learn some lessons. In Daisy’s interview, she says she’s definitely fought over a guy. When she was at university, her roommate slept with her boyfriend. They were best friends, and she felt like she wasn’t good enough. Maybe that’s not the reality of it, but it’s the way you feel. Dani asks Sydney if she’s okay, and they hug. Colin makes eggs for everyone, telling Natasha that she’s done enough. Gary asks Dani, what happened last night? and she says she slept. In Natasha’s interview, she says she still doesn’t understand what two beautiful women see in that boy. (Me neither, Natasha.) No real man would put a woman in a position to fight over him. He’s more cub than a lion. Roar.
Glenn tells the crew there will be a water taxi meeting them. They drop anchor, and the crew gets ready for their day off. Colin tells Glenn, have a good one, and they leave. The taxi, called One Day Escape, takes them to the Polaris charter yacht, where the tables are turned and they’re met with drinks and a nice spread. In Daisy’s interview, she says she’s glad to be there. The boat is gorgeous, there are snacks, and it’s a good vibe. Gary and JL flip backward off the boat, and Colin follows, while the girls dance around on deck. Dani says she feels perfect again. Alli and Gary snuggle, and JL and Dani join them. In Natasha’s interview, she says, could you just stop it? She doesn’t want to see the position they want to screw somebody in. It’s disgusting. F*** off.
JL suggests going paddle-boarding, and Dani says she calls it a double-date. Gary says, he calls it an orgy. Daisy says she hasn’t been around this kind of behavior in fifteen years. Colin asks if Daisy puked in her mouth, and she says, a little. In Alli’s interview, she says, it feels good to be free with how she feels about Gary. In the past, she was in a relationship with someone who was a challenge. They were selling drugs behind her back, and she ended up taking the blame for something she didn’t do. He put drugs in her car, and they were stopped by the police. When the police asked who was going to take responsibility for the drugs in the car, her boyfriend stood there in silence. It affected her ability to trust, but this feels right (I gag), and she’s giving in to it. Dani and JL make out on a towel on the beach, and in Dani’s interview, she says she feels closer to JL. There are a lot of feelings going on. Alli and Gary swim up. Sydney sits on deck, talking to Daisy, Colin, and Natasha. Daisy says Alli can do better, and Sydney tells them that they’re the only ones who can hold a conversation without making it sexual. Daisy agrees, saying, please go; you’re turning me off. Natasha says, what a nice chill day, and the others return.
Sydney asks if they could change one thing about this charter season, what would it be? and Dani jokes she’d change engineers. Gary says, and he thought he picked the right career. Sydney says she never regrets her decisions, but the one thing her mom told her was, don’t have sex on the boat, and the first chance she had, she blew that one. In Daisy’s interview, she says she thought they <air quote> just kissed <end air quote>. Alli will lose her sh*t when she finds out they had sex. They’re such liars. Colin says, tell Gary that he doesn’t do enough dishes, and Daisy says she’s biting her tongue about that. Sydney says she was literally told not to offer help, and we see a clip of Gary telling her just that. Gary and Alli sit by themselves on a loveseat in the corner. Gary tells her, most women should be treated like queens, and Daisy says, they need to stop talking. Alli comes over and sits in Daisy’s lap, and Daisy says she’s sick of being the bitch of the group, when she’s just trying to pull off a successful charter. On the boat, Glenn is on the phone. He tells someone that he had a dream about turning into a donkey.
Sydney says, everyone on the boat is gorgeous. They’re crazy, but hot as sh*t. Alli says she’s not crazy, but Sydney says she’s friends with them. Alli says she’s just the victim, and Sydney says, when you think you’re not the a-hole of the group, you’re the a-hole. When you say you’re not the crazy one, you’re the crazy one. Alli asks what she’s trying to say, and Sydney says, just what she said. They’re all crazy. Colin says, but it was aimed at her, and they all laugh. This totally pisses Alli off, and she stomps over to sit alone with Gary again. In her interview, Alli says she’s sick of this. She tells Gary that she doesn’t like Sydney’s company anymore. She’s being passive/aggressive like she’s been since day one. It’s so effing lame. Sydney tells the group, she shouldn’t have said anything, but she did. Alli tells Gary that Sydney is degrading her in front of the group, and she’s not having it. She’s so over it. She’s not talking about feelings anymore. She’s reached her peak. She’s had enough. I guess she meant she’s not talking about other people’s feelings, since that’s a lot about her own.
Sydney says she’s going to make herself beautiful, and goes to change. Alli bitches to Daisy that she’s been respectful, but she doesn’t like Sydney at this moment. Daisy tells her, let it go. JL tells Dani that he thinks the master is going to be occupied tonight, and now he can’t stand up. Seriously, it’s like middle school. The crew changes for dinner, and someone comes out to tell them it will be served in a half hour. Gary says Daisy’s boobs look real, and she says her boobs are like his personality. Everyone dies laughing, except for Gary. Dinner is served, and Sydney asks what everyone hopes for the next charter. Alli says, no more arguments, but Colin says, that will never happen, and Daisy says, she’s sorry to break it to them. Alli tells JL, she feels like digs are being thrown at her because she has a connection to Gary. She’s always going to come out sh*t at the end. She can’t win no matter what she does. She hates hearing people talk sh*t about her. Daisy tells Alli, the quicker she doesn’t react to Sydney, the quicker it will be over. Gary starts kissing Alli, and in Natasha’s interview, she says, here we go again.F*** me. Colin tells them, get a cabin.
It’s time to leave, and the crew goes back to the boat in the Port of Split. I guess there could be worse names. Colin tells Gary not to be a puss. The crew wants to hang out together, and he and Alli are getting sloppy. Gary complains about Daisy insulting his personality, and says, it was a dig, although he has to admit, it was pretty funny. Colin and Gary intrude on Daisy and Alli in their cabin, and Colin says, this is where Gary is going to sleep now. Daisy says, if Gary has a problem with his roomy, don’t even try. The four of them made everyone else feel uncomfortable. Colin says Gary is a douche. JL says, if anybody wants to drink and be normal, let’s get out of here. You bunch of pusses, get your asses up here. Glenn comes out, and JL says, oops. Where is everybody? In Glenn’s interview, he says, these guys are party animals. He doesn’t know how they keep going… He doesn’t want to know. Colin tells Sydney that Gary is moving into her cabin, but she’s says she’s not doing that. She’ll go to the captain. Colin says he’s sure they’ll be respectful. Sydney says, why her? Gary tells Alli that he’s sleeping in her cabin. If it happens, it happens. No one will even see them. She says, he’s kidding, and he says he is. Sydney says she’s sleeping on the bridge, and Colin says he’s joking. Sydney says, that’s super effed up.
Alli tells Gary that she’s sleeping in her own bed, and he’s sleeping in his own bed. Gary says, or they could see how comfortable the guest cabins are. She asks if he doesn’t remember that he already slept there, and he says he doesn’t want to remember. Colin goes to bed, shortly followed by Sydney, who tells the rest not to stay up too late. Dani asks JL how old he is, and he says he’s twenty-five. She says she usually dates older, and he says he never had a relationship when he was heavy. Women didn’t look at him. In JL’s interview, he says he was 310 at his heaviest. He was self-conscious, and didn’t want to be seen without his shirt on at the beach. He decided to switch lifestyles with his food, and lost 90 pounds. He’s very different now, but still sees that person in the mirror. Dani says, so he took advantage of it, but he says he’s not opposed to finding something that could work out. In his interview, JL says he thinks this is something special. Dani is genuine, and experienced. She could teach him things. He’s on top of the world, but afraid to fall in love. They go in to one of the guest cabins.
In the morning, Alli tells Daisy that she’s stressing because of all the drama she’s been involved in. Daisy says Sydney told them that she and Gary had sex, and Alli asks, who was there for the conversation? Daisy says they all were, and Alli says, WTF? Daisy tells her, please don’t say anything, or it will cause more drama. The more Alli reacts, the more drama happens. Her advice is that Alli should end things. In Alli’s interview, she says she thought it was one kiss on the first night, and didn’t understand the gravity of the situation. That’s why she didn’t understand the tears and how upset Sydney was. Now she feels like the biggest a-hole on the planet. Sydney asks if Dani got any rest, and Dani laughs, saying, of course she didn’t.
It’s time for the preference sheet meeting, and Glenn meets with Daisy, Gary, and Natasha in the crew mess. He tells them that there are three primaries – Erica Rose, Cindi Rose, and Jess, along with a bunch of friends; eight women altogether. In Natasha’s interview, she says, these women are full-on drama. She’s not even thinking about the food; she’s thinking about the drama. Gary says, the guests want to do paddle-board yoga, and snorkeling, and Glenn says he knows the perfect spot. Daisy reads that they want a mermaid/pirate themed dinner, and Gary says, they want to go to a local beach and have a picnic. Daisy says, on the last night, they want a women’s empowerment celebration dinner, with individual gluten free mini-cakes for dessert. In Daisy’s interview, she says, this charter is awful, and she hasn’t even started. I literally lol. Glenn says they’ll kill it like they did the last charter.
The wind picks up, and Sydney yells to Gary that they’re leaning too far to starboard. The deckhands start grabbing fenders, and Gary tells Glenn, they need a start-up. Glenn runs to the bridge, and Gary yells that the boat is rubbing on the dock. Fenders are thrown in, and there are a lot of bleeped words. Gary says, the anchor is dragging. It becomes organized chaos, with everyone running around and doing boat stuff. Glenn says he needs the generator online, and Sydney says, this is so effing bad. Glenn yells for everyone to get on board. Gary says, when Glenn says, go, we’re going, and Glenn tells them not to worry about the anchor, but remove the springs. Let them go, and stand back. Boy, he’s not kidding. These things are on spools and crazy flip when they’re brought back in. And they’re very heavy. Glenn asks if they’re off, and Sydney says, all lines are clear. Glenn tells Gary to put on the steering pump. Sydney runs through the interior, and Dani asks if she’s okay. Sydney says, yeah. Gary goes to the engine room, and says they have a dead ship. There’s no generator. Dani tells Alli that she doesn’t think they can help. Glenn radios Colin. In Gary’s interview He says they have no power, and no engineer on board. Glenn tells Colin, drop what he’s doing. They need him back on board asap; they’ve got a problem. Natasha tells Daisy, she doesn’t think Colin is there. In his interview, Gary says, there’s no power on the boat, and the last thing they want is to crash into the dock. He gets the generator going, and runs back upstairs. Glenn tells the deckhands to make sure nothing is under the boat. In Gary’s interview, he says they don’t want to hit the dock, and need to get the boat online. There’s no engineer, so he has to trust his deckhands to pick up the anchor chain, while he gets in the tender and makes sure everything is okay. Natasha suggests someone from interior be on deck in case they need something. The anchor is in the pocket, and in Colin’s interview, he says, of course this happened while he was off the boat. Shore cops bring Colin back, but everything is okay by then. Glenn says, excellent work. Colin notices a dent on the underside, and Sydney says, nobody got hit; they stayed out of their snap-back zones, so that’s good. JL says he’s freaking TF out. In his interview, he says he didn’t know what to do; there were so many different things going on. Someone could lose their life in that kind of situation. Colin says, it had to be while he was gone, and Glenn says, it happened just after he left; the anchor let go, and wasn’t holding the starboard side. He has no idea how bad the dock is, In Colin’s interview, he says, if Gary hadn’t known how to start the generator, Glenn wouldn’t have been able to steer, and it could have been a totally different situation. Gary saved their ass. In Glenn’s interview, he says, there could have been lot more damage, season ending damage. It’s embarrassing, but it could have been a tragedy. He tells the deckhands, it’s not pretty, but it could have been way worse.
Glenn says, they had a bit of excitement, and Sydney says, what a morning. Gary says, it was scary, but he was happy with everyone’s work. They talk about the springs, and Glenn says they did an amazing job. It hurt his ego more than anything else. The damage to the transom wasn’t a big deal. He’s very, very, very impressed. Everyone pats themselves on the back, as they should. Sydney asks Gary if she’s going to be on nights this charter, and he tells her, yes. He needs someone who can be responsible. She tells him that she’s had worse bosses. Dani and Alli clean the cabins, and everyone prepares for the new charter. Glenn tells Colin, get ready to anchor. Daisy asks how Alli’s anxiety level is, and Alli says she didn’t know or understand why Sydney had been so full-on, and now she’s a part of that. Daisy says Sydney isn’t crying about Alli; she’s crying about the situation. Girls are insecure, and she’s wondering what’s wrong with her that Gary chose Alli over her. It’s all Gary’s fault. Alli says she doesn’t know how to navigate the situation, or how to avoid more drama. Daisy says she thinks Alli’s emotions are all over the place, and suggests she take a few days, and see how it comes out. Then make a decision.
Wind picks up yet again. Gary says, they can’t catch a break. They realize something is wrong with the engine, and Glenn says, f*** me. He tries moving out, but they hit the dock. Hard. Glenn says, f*** me. Godammit.
Looking forward to RHONY tomorrow, when the women not only go to the Hamptons, but Leah throws a Burning Man party. You read right. I can’t wait to see how that turns out. Until we find out together, stay safe, stay sharp, and stay saying and doing what feels right.
(rambling, random thoughts & annoyingly detailed recaps from real time TV watching)
Fear the Walking Dead
John opens the box with the matching pistols, and cleans and loads them. He sees a zombie wading through the creek. He puts a board over his ditch moat, and whacks it with an ax. Smart move to save bullets.
He lies in bed listening to Billy Bass, who I guess is his alarm clock. He washes up, makes the bed, and plays Scrabble with himself. He says, people, as he washes the breakfast dishes. He runs down a list of various words as he has coffee on the porch. He continues as he does chores. He says platypus, and uses it in his next Scrabble game. As night falls, he watches DVDs.
There’s a sound outside. John says, not another one, and asks himself where they’re coming from. He finds Naomi in a canoe on the shore, barely conscious, and brings her in. She says she has to get back, and he tells her she’s safe, but injured. He looks at a gash in her side. The good news is, it’s not a bite. He tells her he’ll take care of it as best he can.
The next morning, he finds Naomi looking in the truck for his keys. He tells her they’re on the top of the visor, and she might want to avoid reverse. He says she has a pretty bad cut. She gets in the truck and closes the door. It won’t start, and he says it needs a new battery. He tells her if she wants to go, he might as well set her up with food and water. She should get some rest, and change the bandage on her wound too.
Inside, Naomi looks at her wound. She starts to stitch it up herself, and says she can’t. She asks John to do it, and gives him instructions, saying, just do it.
John makes fish stew for dinner. He tells Naomi, the French call it bouillabaisse, presenting her with a bowl, saying, soup is the blanket of food. He tells her to enjoy, and introduces himself. She thanks him. He says she looks like a Laura, and asks if it’s an acceptable substitute. He tells her about a job he once had, teaching kids at a pea shooting range, and says she can stay as long as she likes. She says she’ll be moving on, and he offers her food and shelter until she’s ready, but the next time she wants something, ask. He wonders if she’s a doctor or nurse, and tells her to take the bed; he only sleeps an hour or two if he’s lucky. She asks how he knew she was a nurse. He says he doesn’t know many people who could stick a needle in their side. He asks if she was a nurse until… and she says, yeah. He says it seems like forever ago, and she agrees.
Naomi is restless. She sees the couch is empty and gets up. John is cleaning the pistols. He hears her but when he turns around, she’s gone.
John whacks some more zombies in the creek area. Naomi comes out, and asks if they wash up. He says, there’s something amiss up river. He tells her that he goes to the store on Tuesday, and she says she’ll come. He thinks she should rest, but Naomi is insistent. He supposes he wouldn’t mind he company, and gives her a pair of boots, telling her there are snakes. She declines, saying she won’t be able to run in them. He leaves them on the porch in case she changes her mind.
They take the canoe down the river. She asks if he’s been there long, and he says, a good while. She asks what he did before, and he tells her that he was a police officer. She wonders why he didn’t bring his guns; she thought all cops have them, but he says they cause more problems than they solve. She asks if he liked being a cop, and he says, at one time. Zombies walk the bridge, and one falls in. Naomi takes out her knife, but John pushes it into the water with his oar, and they go past. He notes that a broken part of the bridge railing needs tending to.
John docks the boat, and they head for the store. He says it’s been in Bill’s family for sixty years. Naomi asks where Bill is now, but John doesn’t know. They closed the road for repair before things went south, and he hasn’t seen him since. They walk into a fully-stocked store, and John tells Naomi to help herself. She gets a knapsack. and fills it, while he gets supplies. Naomi moves some merchandise around, and John asks if she’s rearranging things. She explains that people need splints and dressings, and aren’t always thinking. She’s just doing her part. He tells her how his name is Dorie, like the fish, except ie.
Outside, he says they’re going to need a ladder. They fix the bridge, and John asks if he can call her Laura. She says that’s fine, but she won’t be staying long. A zombie toddles toward them, and she stabs it in the head.
While lying in bed, Laura hears a movie playing, and comes out. John says sorry for disturbing her (which my autocorrect wanted to change to disrobing her – ha-ha!). It’s usually his movie night, although every night is getting to be movie night. She gets some water, and he says he’ll turn the volume down. He asks if she wants some popcorn. She doesn’t, but she sits on the couch. I’m trying to figure out what the movie is from the dialogue we can hear, but I can’t. He tells her about the snacks he makes on movie night, and suggests concocting something.
John snoozes, and Laura looks at him. He opens his eyes, and she says she lost her child. She gets up, and goes back to bed.
Laura wants John to teach her to fish. It’s a resource, so she should know how. They go out on the river, and he instructs her. She hooks a fish, and gets all excited. He teaches her how to clean and gut it. They have it for dinner, and she thanks him. They play Scrabble.
There’s more fishing the next day, and Laura prepares it herself. That afternoon, John clips her stitches. He says she might have a scar, but nothing too bad. She thinks she should be going, since she’s healed up, but she’ll take a couple days to pack some things. John goes outside, and chops a zombie’s head in half. Laura says they need something stronger to block the opening; a car at Bill’s might still have a charge. She helped him, and it’s the least she can do. He gets wheel barrow, and loads up the zombie he downed.
At the bridge, John asks how Laura learned to hot wire a car, and she asks if he’s going to arrest her. He sees she’s got one of his pistols, and says he asked her not to go through his things. She tells him that they might need protection, but he says she’s good with a knife; the noise from the gun just brings more zombies. She says they’re no good in a box, but he wants them in a box, not out there. He gets out of the truck.
John walks through the zombies, whacking them. Laura gets the ones he doesn’t, and it’s a chopfest. They drive a truck to the opening, blocking it. Laura is on the truck, but outside of the cab, guiding John. The zombies begin to gather, and Laura tells John to shoot them. They’re pushing at the car, and one zombie breaks the window with the machete that’s poking through him, and is now six inches from John’s face. He stabs at it, while Laura keeps yelling for him to shoot. John finally deals a fatal blow, but then won’t stop stabbing once it’s over. He and Laura are both covered in the blood that has sprayed everywhere.
Back at the cabin, Laura scrubs at their clothing. John says he didn’t get bit, but she says she’s seen people get sick from being exposed. He tells her that he didn’t mean for it to happen. She says he had a gun. He says that’s not how he does things, and she says it nearly got him killed. He says, better him than someone else. She asks if what he’s talking about has to do with why he doesn’t want to talk about being a cop. She asks what happened; did he take it or fire it? He says he fired. She says, good guy or bad guy? He says that’s not the way he looks at things, but she’d call him bad. She asks if it was a mistake or intentional, and he says, intentional. It was an intentional mistake. He stopped at the gas station, and a guy was robbing the place. John told him that he was a police officer, and to put his weapon down, but he would not. He tried to clip the guy in the leg. John starts to choke up, and Laura tells him it’s okay. John says, the guy turned, and he hit him dead center in the leg, and he bled out. Laura asks if that’s why he moved up there, but he says, no. People thought he was a hero. She says, it doesn’t matter how many people say it’s not your fault; what matters is if you believe it.
On the bridge, the zombies clamor at the truck. It starts to roll, and they start falling into the river.
Laura and John are sleeping, when John hears a lot of zombie noises. That’s because there are a sh*tload of them coming toward his house. He calls to Laura, and starts to whack them as they come out of the creek. Laura whacks and chops at them with a shovel, but they’re all falling into the moat, creating a bridge for the ones still coming. They’re surrounded, and Laura tumbles into the moat. John suddenly has the guns, one in each hand, and shoots with both at once, doing that twirling-the-guns thing. The last one is inches from Laura’s face and it’s hard to aim, but he does it, and kills the zombie. Holy! Even though we know both of them make it, I was holding my breath.
John surveys the mess. Laura sits next to him on the steps. She thanks him. She says he might not think he’s a hero, but she does. He’s an honorable person, and she’s very, very lucky to have washed up in his front yard. He gives her one of the pistols, telling her, if she’s going, she’ll need it, and he needs her to take it.
They sit on the couch. John gets up, and Laura asks what it is; why won’t he look at her? He says he loves her, but he didn’t want her to know. She asks why, and he says because she’s leaving, and he doesn’t want her to. He says if she wants the cabin, he’ll go. He tells her that he needs her alive. If she’s alive, the whole world feels alive. They kiss. At this point, I’m liking him too.
John wakes up to Billy Bass – alone. He looks around, and calls Laura’s name. He sees her shoes where the boots were on the porch. On the table is, I love you too Im sorry, in Scrabble letters.
Morgan and John sit by the side of the road. Morgan says, she loved you, and John says, yes. John says, maybe if he’d waited to tell her… but Morgan says, no waiting; not in this world. Waiting is how you lose people. John says he believed he had a second chance; it was stupid. Morgan says they still do. Madison, Victor, Luci; they’re still here. They think the only thing left is to fight, kill, or die. John says, maybe they’re right. Morgan tells John to look him in the eye, and tell him that’s what he believes. If he can do that, they’ll go their separate ways. John says he doesn’t believe it. Morgan says, they’re alive. They’re part of the world. Let’s not waste another second.
Morgan gets up, and gathers his stuff. John puts the other pistol in his holster. They walk down the road.
Nice episode.
Next time, John uses the pistols some more, Mel tells Madison to be careful, and Naomi says it’s dangerous.
🐟 Apparently, there’s more than one Dory with a y who’s a fish, and is a John. A white-fleshed sea fish found in European waters, John Dory (also known as St Peter’s fish), is an odd-looking creature with an oval, flat body and a large, spiny head. The white, boneless, meaty flesh is firm and flavoursome and can be cooked in a variety of ways: grill, sauté or poach it. – from BBC.co.uk – Food.
💀 🔊 Talking Dead was a good one too, the guests being Yvette Nicole Brown and Jenna Elfman. The artistry of the episode was discussed, and it really was beautifully filmed. The scenery was gorgeous, but John’s cabin was also an amazing setting. Yvette talked about how she has an investment in the characters after knowing the backstory. I was with her there, but I’ve always had more investment in the characters from Fear than those in The Walking Dead. From the jump, they were more multi-faceted. TWD needs a charming rogue like Victor, trading barbs and sexual tension with Maggie. I was surprised nobody brought up Naomi/Laura having lost her child, but Jenna Elfman was very cagey about where the story was going next. I wondered if her child was Charlie. Also surprising was the gift an audience member went home with – a canoe. A clip of Garrett Dillahunt (John) talking about filming the episode, gave me a quote that I not only couldn’t resist adding, but could relate to: It’s only been six days but I feel twenty-seven days tired.
This did not include my own mother’s favorite, this is not a restaurant, which I actually heard come out of my own mouth while babysitting my neighbor’s twins. Although my mom wasn’t Irish, that list looks pretty mom universal.

General Hospital
Sonny tells Jason that if they dig up what he did, his life will get blown apart.
At the MetroCourt, Anna leaves another message for Robert. She writes an email to Henrik from his mother. She says now that Faison is dead, she can tell him the truth about why she was forced to give him up when he was born. Valentin sits down and says she’s been avoiding him.
Curtis sits with Nina, and tells her she’s all work and no play. She says if her brother’s letters are any indication, she’s always been cool and interesting. He says, the ones he found in Peter’s office? She thanks him for a job well done, and gives him an envelope. He says it’s his pleasure, and amends that to extreme pleasure when he sees what’s inside. He asks if she’s sure she doesn’t want him to do any extra digging, but she says she was just angry. She was being paranoid and overprotective about Maxie. Peter isn’t a threat.
Peter reads his mother’s email, and says he can hear the excuses already. He leaves a message for Valentin to call him – now. Sam drops by, and says she’s given more thought to what they discussed. She was surprised he told her it would be better off if she left. She asks him, why?
Carly yells, screw you, Ava! and throws the penguin mobile against the fireplace. Olivia says they all know how she hates Ava. They know what she did to Morgan and Connie – and her – but if she can keep her cool, so can Carly.
Jason tells Sonny it’s been decades. There’s nothing to connect him to the body. Sonny wouldn’t say that, since there have been major strides in forensics since then. A young kid on his first job made the mistake of burying the gun too. If they find a partial print and run it through the system, it will be Christmas for the Feds. Jason says they’d better get moving then.
Peter tells Sam he didn’t mean to imply the company would be better off without her. To be honest, Drew is more invested in the company. It might be difficult, if not impossible. for them to work together. It’s in Drew’s best interest if she walks away.
Curtis needs Nina to help him pick the right one. He shows her his phone, and she asks if that’s what she thinks it is. He says he’s going to propose to Jordan, and needs help in picking the perfect ring.
Valentin tells Anna that he can’t get ahold of Robert; he seems to have fallen off the grid. Anna says that’s what good agents do. Valentin wanted to follow up on the conundrum box with him. He put some thought in it, and remembers seeing one like it on Cassadine Island. He offers to have it dug up, but Anna passes that to Robert. Valentin is surprised she doesn’t want to check it out herself. He says Robert made it sound urgent, and he thought it had something to do with Henrik.
Carly says Ava brought Avery to the shower to flaunt it in her face. Ava says Avery is her daughter, and she’ll bring her where she wants. Carly says that’s only because she threatened to send Mike to prison. Ava says she’s like Carly, and will do anything for her children. Nelle apologizes, telling them to blame her. Carly says she’s not sorry; she’s thrilled. Monica reminds everyone that it’s a baby shower, and now it’s been brought to a halt in an argument about penguins. Bobbie says that’s not what the fight is about. She knows Nelle did it on purpose. Monica says it’s her shower. If she wants penguins, she can ask for penguins. Carly asks if her mother is the only one who sees Nelle for the snake she is.
Olivia suggests they play the baby bag game, where they guess what’s in the bag without looking at it. Olivia tells Carly that she knows it’s hard. She doesn’t like Nelle any better than Carly does. Ava hears her, and asks why come, let alone host the shower? Olivia says the baby is a Quartermaine, and after what Nelle pulled, Carly has every right to be skeptical. Nelle starts to interject, but Olivia suggests she quit while she’s ahead. Bobbie tells Carly that she can’t go in guns blazing. If she won’t do it for the baby or Michael, do it for herself. It’s not the battle to be picking right now. Carly steps away and takes a pill.
Nina looks through the rings. Curtis knows it will hurt one person and he’ll have no true peace, but it doesn’t matter what anyone else thinks. He and Jordan keep running away, and end up in the same place. Their last resort is to surrender, and promise to honor their bond every day for the rest of their lives. Nina says this is the one. It’s poetic yet honest, dazzling yet direct, and undeniably romantic. It’s like Jordan is for him, and him for her. Curtis looks at it and says she’s good. Nina says she is, and also happy for him. He’s been a good friend, indulging her with the investigation. He says she thought something was wrong, now it’s not, so that’s good news. She says Peter is on the up and up, and asks him to tell Sam that she was wrong. He has the best of intentions.
Sam asks if Peter thinks it’s impossible for them to work together. He says not to sound insensitive, but they’re getting a divorce. It would be better to have one CEO than two who are struggling with one another. She says she’s made her decision, and she’s staying. She tells him to let everyone who expressed concern know that she’s back and not going anywhere.
Anna tells Valentin that Robert is personally taking over the search for her son. She’d lost perspective, and her health suffered for it. Valentin asks if it’s serious, but Anna says she just needs to rest. She’s fine, and doesn’t need his sympathy. She needs to focus on the family she already has, and not be fixated on making things right with her son. Robert pointed out it might have a negative effect on Robin. Valentin says it’s shocking, but he agrees with Robert. She should focus on the child has, not the one she doesn’t know.
Maxie comes into Peter’s office, and tells him that Nina showed her the folder he put together. He takes it that he owes her an apology. She asks if he’s kidding. Both she and Nina are beyond grateful. For Nina, it’s a keepsake of her brother, and for Maxie and the baby, it will be a window to what Nathan was like growing up. He wishes he’d given it to them sooner. When he sees it from Nina’s point of view, he can understand why she was suspicious. Maxie says Nina now sees what a good guy he is.
Nelle feels terrible. Monica opened her home to make this beautiful day happen. Carly has every reason not to trust her, but Nelle has to make it right. All she wants to do is build bridges and make amends. Olivia says now is not the time, but Nelle says what better time is there than when they’re celebrating the baby. She tells Carly that when she wanted name the baby Morgan, she was sincere. Carly says she has no reason to believe her, and Nelle says she’s right; she doesn’t. Josslyn says Nelle didn’t mean to be insensitive; she just wanted to do something nice. Carly is sure that’s what Nelle told her. Josslyn says even when Nelle told her that she admired her as a mother, and trusted her with guardianship of the baby, even that was a mistake. She just wanted to honor Morgan. Let her make things right.
Maxie tells Peter that Crimson is donating the programs. Peter laughs, saying he just wishes Nina would tell him something ahead of time. Maxie says Nina’s motto is that it’s better to ask for forgiveness than permission. She wishes it didn’t mean she has to attend. Peter feigns shock, and says, Maxie Jones missing the social event of the season? She must be feverish and delusional, and needs to go home immediately. She tells him that last year, she was in Portland and missed it, so she and Nathan were going to do it up this year. She suggests sending an intern so they understand with glamour there is always pain. Peter says, or they could go together; he would appreciate the company. She says it would be easier to go with a friend, if he doesn’t mind walking the red carpet with a very pregnant lady. He says they’re on.
Carly tells Nelle that if she wants to make it right, stop saying Morgan’s name. She says Nelle only wants to hurt her, like with her friendship with Josslyn. Nelle is using Josslyn because she resents their loving family, and wants to destroy it. No one is buying her noble victim act. She doesn’t want to make amends or honor Morgan, she just wants to get Michael back. And everyone knows he’s too good for her. Nelle runs out of the room, crying. Monica says, so much for playing nice.
Jason and Sonny arrive at the field in Croton, using the Star Trek transporter. Jason says, they’ll be breaking ground any day, and Sonny tells him, this is it; between the columns and the water tower. He suggests they get past the nostalgia, and do what they came to do.
Bobbie tells Monica it’s a sensitive subject, and Monica says no one knows better than she the pain of mourning a son; ask Sonny. She suggests Carly suck it up, and treat Nelle with courtesy, and if she can’t, fake it. Josslyn asks if she couldn’t be nice for a change. Bobbie says Nelle was baiting Carly all afternoon. Josslyn says Nelle is insecure, and tries too hard because she loves Michael. They’re having a baby, and she’s the reason Josslyn is alive, if that counts for anything. Carly knows how badly Josslyn wants Nelle to be a good person, but wanting something doesn’t make it true. Josslyn asks if Carly is going to hate Nelle for the rest of her life, and blow up at every birthday party. She asks if Carly thinks Nelle will want to bring the baby to their house if Carly is going to fight with her. If she doesn’t make things right, Nelle will give up on them, and make her family with the Quartermaines. Josslyn will have to choose, and she doesn’t want to do that. She’s always telling Josslyn to take responsibility; why can’t she? Whatever Nelle did was wrong, but Carly was out of line. Why can’t she say she’s sorry, and forget it? Bobbie says Carly isn’t wrong, and Josslyn says, her too. She asks Carly, who’s more important, Nelle or her daughter? Carly says that’s ridiculous; Josslyn is her heart. Josslyn says, then suck it up and apologize. She wants to see her make the gesture. I want one of those giant balloons with a tassel. Carly says, okay, she’ll apologize to Nelle.
Jason and Sonny dig. Jason says it’s packed tight. He doubts anyone has been out there since Sonny was. He asks how far down, and Sonny says six feet; that’s how far he dug. Sonny has to take a break. Jason keeps digging. Sonny says that Skully had everything he wanted; money, respect, and power. What he wanted most was the power. His dad didn’t have it, and he knew it would cost him, but he didn’t care. He had two choices – be powerful like Skully, or weak like his dad. Here they are thirty years later, his dad is starting to lose everything, and it’s brought him back to the place it started. How about that?
Anna tells Valentin if he and Robert agree, who is she to argue? He asks if she’s being facetious, and she says, actually, she’s not. Faison stole a lot of her time, and now he’s gone. She hopes to make up time with Robin, who’s on her way to visit. Everything is on hold until after the Ball. Valentin says, for what it’s worth, he’s sorry. She’s in pain is he she knows he is this odyssey looking for Henrik search for peace hopes she finds it thanks him don’t know if sincere as sincere as he is he leaves
Carly seeks out Nelle in the nursery. She says Monica went all out. Nelle says at least somebody cares about the baby. Carly says she’s sorry. Nelle had no reason to know penguins were Morgan’s favorite. She’ll love the baby with everything she has. Nelle knows she will. Carly says as distasteful as it is, they have to call a truce. Nelle asks how she proposes they do that?
Nelle picks up the blanket she’s been knitting. Carly asks where she got that? Morgan had one just like it; her mom made it. Nelle says she had no idea. Carly says it’s her. All of it; the scarf, the calls. She smashed the picture, and put the note on Carly’s car, sending her to Morgan’s grave. Nelle asks if she’s feeling okay; she’s not making much sense. Carly says she sees what Nelle is doing, and it’s not going to work. She underestimated her. She’s good, but it’s over. Nelle says if she didn’t know better, she’d think Carly was losing it. The situation is perfect for getting Carly to smack her while she’s pregnant. Then she can cry in Josslyn’s arms. It’s not going to happen. She sees Nelle for who she is. Nelle says she’s carrying a baby that Michael loves. She says he appreciated that she was there for him when Avery disappeared. Carly says she was circling like a vulture to make herself look good. Nelle says it’s because she loves him. She’ll be there to ease the pain about his grandfather, and they’ll tells stories to the baby about him one day. She’s there for all of them. If Carly needs anything, just say the word. Carly says, it will be a cold day in hell. Nelle says, if she didn’t know better, she’d think Carly was having a breakdown. She must recognize the signs. She did when she threw Nelle’s breakdown in her face. She shouldn’t throw stones, since she spent time in a mental hospital herself.
Sam sees Maxie at the MetroCourt, and asks if she’ll be her date for the Nurses’ Ball. Maxie says she just promised Peter she’d go with him. Sam says she can fill him in on what happens. Nina tells Curtis good luck, and when he leaves, Maxie sits down. She wonders why everyone needs luck. Nina says she can’t tell her. Maxie says that something is happening, and she wants Nina to hear it from her first.
Curtis tells Sam that it’s off; Nina pulled the plug. He don’t know what Peter is selling, but Nina is buying it wholesale. Sam says if they keep it quiet, he’ll think he’s in the clear. He’s involved with too many people she cares about. She’s not letting it go.
Peter looks at an email from his mother, saying she wants to finally get to know him. He asks, is that what you want, mom?
Jason says they should hit the body soon. Sonny keeps thinking about when Jason came to work with him. He didn’t intend it to be the rest of Jason’s life. He didn’t know he’d rely so much on him. He can’t have own life because Sonny has trapped him. Jason says he chose his own life, but Sonny wants him to know he’s not taking it for granted. Jason says Sonny, Carly, and Michael are his family; they’re good. Sonny gets a flashlight. Jason hits something. It’s a dollar sign money clip.
Carly says it was all a ploy. Nelle set her up with the shower gift. She’s using the baby shower to hurt her and freak her out in front of Josslyn. Nelle says it must be a banner day for her, and a tragic one for Michael with his mother unbalanced and dangerous. She’ll have to get checked out before they let her have access to the baby. Carly says, think again, bitch. She’ll never get away. Nelle says, watch her.
Sonny remembers it like yesterday, the dude he buried flashing wads of cash. Jason says that’s all there is. There’s no body.
Anna types an email from Henrik’s mother. She tells him, for his own protection, not to trust Valentin Cassadine.
Curtis tells Sam that Nina might be satisfied, but there are too many unanswered questions. He suggests they work together.
Nina thinks Maxie going to the Ball with Peter is great. It’s good for her. Maxie says, so she doesn’t need the speech where she valiantly, but unsuccessfully, promotes Peter? Nina says she thought he was hiding a deep, dark secret, but he’s just a thoughtful guy. Maxie says, I told you so, and Nina says it’s the only one she’s going to get. She’s sorry she was overprotective. With Nathan gone, she thought it was her job to watch out for Maxie. She thought he’d want it that way. Maxie says, he would, but Nina says she took it too far. Her heart is in the right place, but Peter isn’t someone Maxie needs protection from.
Peter reads the email about Valentin. Valentin shows up at his office, and asks if he’s disturbing Peter. Peter says, on the contrary. He just left a message demanding Valentin call him back. It’s better face-to-face when there’s an important matter to discuss. He wants to know if they’re on the same page.
At the shower, everyone is playing Olivia’s baby bag game. Brad guesses, a toy. Olivia says every child under the age of six months thinks everything counts as a toy. It’s a wooden spoon.
Upstairs, Carly says she will not let Nelle get her hands on her son. Nelle leaves the room, and Carly makes a grab for the blanket. They struggle over it at the top of the stairs, and no surprise, Nelle falls down them. I’ve been wondering if something like that was going to happen.
On Monday, Jordan says she’s not ready for marriage, Jason thinks the body was moved, and Monica wants to call the police.
💍 In anticipation of the new season of 90 Day Fiancé (May 20th), TLC has been taking the pieces of each couples’ story shown throughout a season and putting them together, adding a new branch to the franchise tree. Tonight, was Jorge and Anfisa: Our Continuing Journey, and I couldn’t resist. They had a journey, all right. I never did quite get a handle on these two. I hadn’t seen them in the beginning, so that part was new to me. Apparently, Jorge had quite a thing going with dealing medical weed, as well as designing packaging for it. He’d designed a bag that didn’t let in ultra-violet rays or something like that, and it kept the weed fresher. You’d think that would have set him up for life. He’d told Anfisa that he was a millionaire, and they had traveled a bit together, but after she got here, she found out he was actually in debt. Jorge lost his job, although that wasn’t clear if it was because Anfisa kept interrupting his $15K drug deal with screaming mimi phone calls. While I totally get that she felt she’d been duped, she reacted like a toddler, throwing many literal temper tantrums. On the other hand, Jorge had the emotional range of a potato, so maybe she was just trying to get a reaction. Any reaction. She wanted to live the good life, but with Jorge, it was less than mediocre. The final straw came when Jorge’s sister accused Anfisa of only spreading her legs for Jorge when he had money, and he just sat there like the emotionless sack of flour he was during the entire relationship. She walked out, finding a life of her own. These two were just bizarre. At times, they seemed like bad actors, their conversation and mannerisms stilted and wooden.
The really weird part came during The Couples Tell All episodes (what you call a reunion). They arrived together, and were sharing a hotel room. During all three episodes, Jorge intimated he had some juicy information about Anfisa, claiming it was something she wanted to keep hidden. Even though the host eventually had a two-on-one with them, Jorge never really spilled the beans. Was she a hooker escort? A stripper An exotic dancer? Part of the Russian mob? A potato farmer trying to capture him? What? We may never know. Another question on my list for God when I meet Him. She made it clear she’d expected a life of luxury and Jorge didn’t deliver, and the rest of the couples were of one mind that this was not a love match. Still, there were glimmers of humanity, like when Anfisa cried at the civil ceremony. Although she could have been crying about the United States not being the land of opportunity she’d thought it was.
