Fear the Walking Dead

Logan sets up a take what you need box. A woman radios, asking if anyone copies. He answers, asking if she’s at the Feedbag. He set that place up. She says her name is Serena, and he asks how he can help. She says she was following him and his partner. He says his partner is on route to where she is. We hear zombie noises, and Logan says, Desert Fox to Polar Bear. Does Clay copy? He gets no response, and asks if Clay decided to sleep in. He tells Serena that he’s coming to get her himself. She says, they’re coming in the back door too, and he tells her, hang on. He’s going as fast as he can. Keep talking, and barricade the door. She says, there are too many; the door’s not going to hold. Logan’s gas gauge shows he’s almost on empty. He tries again to radio Clay, saying, SOS at the Feedbag. The truck runs out of gas, and he jumps out. He asks Serena where she is, and tells her that he’s almost there. He hears the zombies attack her. He runs inside, calling for Serena. It’s quiet, and he finds the zombie’s feeding on her. They see him, and he shoots. He stumbles out, crying, and drops to his knees.

Logan looks up the road, and sees some people on horseback. A woman asks if he’s the man who was trying to help that girl. Their condolences. He says, she is? She says, Virginia. Most people call her Ginny. He asks what they want, and she says, to help. They’ve been watching him; listening. They want the same thing he does, but bigger and better. Together, they can get from yesterday to tomorrow. He says he’s listening.

Dylan picks a rat out of a bunch of them in a box. Max says, don’t worry. They won’t eat him. They put the rat inside of a small cage, and hang it up. There are several rats in cages hung up in a circle, making zombies work a wheel, the same way a carrot is dangled in front of a donkey. (I wonder if a good zombie always goes to the right?) The wheel causes oil to pump out of a pipe. Wen tells Sarah, they’re 3000 gallons ahead of schedule. He tells Luci, this is no place to store the tanker. His pillow looks like the Shroud of Turin when he wakes up. Luci says she doesn’t mind getting her hands dirty. Wen says he’s not worried about his hands; he’s worried about everything else. They hear a truck approach the barricade. Wen asks if it’s Sarah, and tells Luci, that’s not her rig. They draw their guns, and Logan busts through. Annie tells the kids to get down, and go. Luci approaches the truck.

Wen asks what Logan is doing there, and Logan says, he has to ask? He sees some of his people; he wondered where Clay stashed them. Luci tells him not to move, and he says, no one is firing a weapon. If he was her, he’d stop giving orders and start taking them. She why he’s there. He tells her, like the box says, take what you need and leave what you don’t. And they need it all.

Alicia paints a tree, and asks Victor if it’s too much phoenix. He says, Ross had clouds; she has birds. He notices her radio is on, and he says they won’t be able to charge it. They’re almost out of gas. She says, they can’t give up on him, but Victor says Wen told them he didn’t want help. Why would he want it now? A girl’s voice comes over the radio, saying she needs help, and giving them her location, and Alicia relays the message to John and June. June says, Sarah and Wen were going to the oil field. She thinks Logan found them, and no one’s heard from Morgan and Al. Alicia says she can’t reach him either, and June says they’ll help with the truck stop. They’ve got this. Victor asks Alicia, how do they know Logan isn’t trying to draw them away? and Alicia says, what’s the point of having gas if they can’t use it to help people?

Logan watches the wheel. A worker says, it was Clay’s idea. He wanted to see them do good. Doris hands Logan Clay’s journal, and says, there’s no instructions. Wen asks how he found them, and Logan says he watched their movie. They should have been more careful where they point the camera. As Logan looks through the journal, Luci says maybe he can remember what he used to believe. Logan says, that doesn’t mean he was right, and tosses it into the fire. Doris stops Luci from retrieving it, and Luci goes back with the others. Logan says, smart girl. She doesn’t want to make it difficult. It won’t make a difference. It’s only prolonging the inevitable; the survival of the fittest. Luci asks why he’s doing this, and he says he told Morgan that he was helping people, just not in a way they can get on board with. Wen suggests he try them first, but Logan thinks they’d have no stomach for it. Are they going to give him gas, or what? Luci says, no, and Logan says he didn’t think so. He radios his guys, and says they need to start cooking. The guy Dwight didn’t shoot (whose name I still don’t know) says he’s not as optimistic as he was before; they hit a roadblock. Logan says, unblock it. They’re about to start a new batch.

Dude says they have no time to find a new route. They have to get these off the road. He starts to move a container, and Sarah pops out, saying, some fellas will do anything to avoid asking directions. Lucky for him, they know the way. Dwight is glad he didn’t shoot dude while he had the chance. Now there’s no way he’s not helping. Dude is hesitant, and Sarah shoots and grazes him. She says, of all the sh*t she’s had to live with, she can’t abide that she killed Polar Bear for nothing. Him, she can live with. He wisely  gets in the truck.

In the past, Logan checks his watch, and looks at key points on a map.

Logan asks Luci, what’s the matter? and she tells him, it’s too windy. If the tanker gets too hot, the oil won’t separate. (I guess she’s the Walter White of FWD now.) Logan says that’s why he needs assistance. Here’s his cook now. Sarah pulls up instead. She and Dwight get out of the truck, and Sarah says Logan doesn’t seem happy see her. He says he wasn’t expecting her, and she says she and Dude had a little chat. He picked the perfect day to decide to stop being an a-hole. Watching with June from a cliff above them, John shoots one of the wheel zombies. He radios, that’s a friendly warning. In case he gets an itchy trigger finger. The zombie drags along in the circle, now literally dead weight.

Sarah tells Logan, they can walk their separate ways. These people don’t want no part of this sh*t show. He says, the problem is, the show must go on. They walked on stage, and they know how it ends. She says, do they? Logan says they had the chance to kill him and didn’t take it. That won’t change now. He radios John, saying, John may be a good shot, but this is one he’s not going to take. John cocks his hat, and says, not unless he has to. Logan says he’s bluffing. Sarah says, when he’s right, he’s right. They’re not here to make their iron bark, or to take over the oil fields either. She hopes he sees reason, and stops what he’s doing, or at least gets the point. She can’t undo how she got Clay killed. She has to live with regrets every day. When she saw him in the rearview, she could have stopped, and done the right thing, but she didn’t do jack. Wen says, she’s right. He’ll have to live with his conscience. Logan says he’ll be reasonable. The kids can go, if they can go back to work. It’s a reasonable trade. Sarah says they’ll need a car, and gas. Logan thinks he can spare a few gallons. Annie says she’s not leaving; they can help. Luci says they’re leaving, and Sarah says, the convoy is at the rendezvous. Do they know where that is? Annie says, yes, and Sarah says, skedaddle. Dylan asks Luci, what about the rats? and she says they’ll take care of them. Just be safe.

The girl tells Alicia, they’re starting to build up outside. Alicia asks her name, but she thinks it’s safer for her not to give it. Alicia says she needs to stay calm. Help is coming. The girl says, really? Victor says the inevitable has happened. They’re out of gas. Alicia tells the girl that they’re on their way. Do what she has to, to stay safe. Alicia radios to anyone listening that she can use help.

Oil pumps out. Dwight says the fire is out of hand, and Luci says, it’s too big. Logan says she shouldn’t have sent his cook back. Get back to work. Sarah says, the real truth, what the hell does Logan need the gas for? Logan says she doesn’t need to be concerned. They’re going to help people. It’s just not going to be one person at a time. This mom and pop crap makes people think they have a chance. Sarah is sorry he feels that way, and Logan says he has her to thank. He got a call that someone needed help along Clay’s route. When Clay didn’t answer, he went himself.

We see Logan running. He says he didn’t get there in time. He had to listen to her get torn apart, and there was nothing he could do. All because Clay wasn’t there, because she stole his rig. He’s doing what he’s doing because of her. If she wants to help make a difference – over the radio,  Alicia says they’re close – walk away. They’ve already done their part. Nothing they do is going to make up for that.

June radios, saying she hopes she’s not interrupting, but they have to get out of there now. She looks through the binoculars, and sees zombies walking toward a cliff above where the tanker is. There’s nothing I love more than a zombie walking off a cliff. Unless it’s a whole horde of them walking off a cliff, like in the Grand Canyon episode of Z Nation. < We pause for a moment, and reflect on the passing of my favorite show.>

It’s nighttime, and John is shooting the zombies as the get close to the edge. Doris smashes one’s head. Luci watches the tank burn. Doris says she’s got to kill the fire, but Luci says she can’t; it’s burning too hot. June watches. Tons of zombies go splat below the cliff. Some get up; some don’t. Dwight says they need their weapons. John keeps shooting. June radios that they can’t take them out. They have to clear out of there.

It’s getting pretty messy, and Doris says they have a problem. Logan says they also have company. Someone deal with the dead. Dwight says they need gas, and Wen says, they need to be alive to do what they’re doing. Dwight asks if he thinks the gas in the truck will hold them over, and he, Wen, Luci, and Sarah head for the truck. Doris tells Logan, they need to bail, but he says, no one needs to be bailing. A zombie clutches at his pant leg, and he tells her, don’t just stand there, kill it. It starts crawling up his leg. Doris shrugs, and jets. The tanker burns hotter. Sarah gets in the truck, and looks at Logan. She says, sh*t, and gets back out. Dwight asks, what’s going on? and she says she can’t leave him. Dwight says Logan told them to walk away; he doesn’t want help. Sarah says if she’s not back in two minutes, get in the truck. Wen tells her not to go, but she says, don’t try to talk her out of it. She’s going to do what she should have done back then. Wes says, what they both should have done . Sarah goes into the fray. Man, I hope they don’ kill her off. I really like Sarah.

Alicia asks if the girl copies. She says she’s not sure how much longer the doors will hold. Alicia says there should be a generator, and she can broadcast from where she is. Does she copy? There’s nothing. Alicia and Victor look at each other.

The tank burns. Sarah drags Logan inside. He’s pissed, and says she should have left him out there. She tells him that he’s a real  sh*t-ass at thank yous. She just saved him. He says she prolonged the inevitable. If something else doesn’t get them, the dead will. They tried to help others, but no one is coming to help them. She says, maybe he’s right. The girl Alicia was talking to comes over the radio, saying she needs help. Logan says, more people to save, and she asks if anybody is there. Sarah picks up, and Logan says she’s got be sh*tting him. The girl says she’s trapped, and Sarah hands Logan the radio. He asks if there’s an ad for sunscreen on the wall. The girl says Alicia told her that he could help. Sarah asks if Logan knows her, but he says she’s like the one he was trying to tell her about. They’re giving the poor girl hope. He tells the girl,  the sooner she accepts this, the sooner she’ll understand what she has to do. She says she can’t kill them; there’s too many. He tells her there’s a gun in there. She sees it, and asks how he knew. He says he left it there.

John keeps shooting, and a zombie comes up behind him. June shoots it, and it looks like there are more coming, but it’s Tess and Jacob. Tess says they couldn’t stay with the convoy, and Jacob says they thought the group might need assistance. John says they need to keep the ones on the ridge from falling in.

She says, there’s only one bullet. Logan says he knows; he’s sorry. She sees the zombies clamoring at the doors, and coming through the trap door below. She says, don’t be. It’s better this way. I heave a huge sigh, along with Logan. She cocks the gun, and closes her eyes. They start to come in. Everyone listens on the radio. Logan says, no, and we hear a shot. Then more shots. Everyone is like, wha…? Sarah asks if she’s okay. Who’s there? Wes takes the radio, and says, the name’s Wes. He heard Alicia on the radio. She helped him, so he figured he’d pay it forward. Sarah looks at Logan, and says, what happened before, she’s sorry, but that’s no reason to throw this all away. They help people. We see clips of everyone helping  each other, and Sarah says, they help people. it’s hard to get bigger than that.

Alicia and Victor arrive at the Feedbag. The girl is surprised Alicia made it, and Alicia is glad she’s okay. Alicia introduces Victor. She says she was hoping Wes was listening. Victor asks, what happened to people are people? and Wes says, sometimes they’re not. He wasn’t going to listen to someone die over the walkie. He tells Alicia that he saw her trees. Not bad. He likes the phoenix thing. The girl says they shouldn’t stay. They’ll find her. The place she’s from, there are people she couldn’t be with anymore. She was trying to get out. That’s why she ended up there. Alicia says she’s with them now. Those people aren’t going to bother her anymore. They leave. Victor lingers, but then follows.

A zombie climbs out of a ditch, and Jacob pikes him with his trusty bayonet. John stomps another one’s head. Sarah and Logan come outside. Sarah says, this sh*t is worse than a tequila hangover. They all meet, and Logan says he recognizes Tess from the movie. Jacob, not so much. John says he couldn’t have cleared the place without him. June says these are people they helped. What’s left of Logan’s guys come out with guns. Logan tells them, guns down. There’s been enough horse sh*t already.  Doris tells him  that he said they’d take it all. Logan says he thought they needed it. She says he claimed it was their ticket to the Promised Land, and he says, it still could be – if they put the guns down. Doris lowers hers, and the rest follow suit. John says, okay, and they all lower their guns. Logan says, sh*t happens. Then more sh*t happens, and it makes you start to doubt what you’re about. double Some people do better with a partner. Clayton never did. He may have burned Clayton’s journal, but he didn’t snuff out what Clay was trying to do. Shocking us all, someone shoots Logan in the head, and then picks off the rest of his group. John and the others draw their weapons. Ginny rides in with a few people, and a bunch of others ride along the ridge above, and wait there.

Luci says she killed Logan, and Ginny says they had to do this for a reason, and don’t take it lightly. She then says something in Spanish. She says they all know Logan was a liability who couldn’t be trusted. June asks what she knows about them, and Ginny says they’re not exactly hermits. They’ve been watching them for a while, on and off screen, and like what they’re doing so much, she thinks there’s a way they can all help each other. She gets down from her horse. She says their biggest weakness is, they think too small. Their convoy works – mostly – but mostly it doesn’t. Luci says, who is she to tell them how to help? Sarah says they don’t take tips from a killer. Ginny says think of them as pioneers. Settlers, settling everything, everywhere. It’s no different than what they’re doing with the outposts, but it’s bigger, and if she may, better. A hundred years from now, people might look back and think their methods are ruthless and unkind, but there will be people to look back. They have people everywhere, and they can help each other. She says, Dwight. If his wife is still alive, they can help  him find her. June. They can help find her the sweet little place she’s looking for. She looks at Sarah and Wen, and says they need someplace to brood. They can find that too. They brokered a deal with Logan to help expand on what they built; to help keep it going. There’s no telling what they can offer each other. Sarah says she can take her offer, and shove it straight up her poopshoot. June says, Sarah is right. They saw what Ginny does to people who take her deals. Ginny says they only eliminate what’s not essential. That doesn’t describe them. Dwight says, they’ll take their chances, and Wen says they can cook for themselves. Ginny says, leaving them high and dry, without what they came for? That makes them less essential. She raises her hand, and her people raise their guns. John and the others raise theirs, and John says, don’t. Everyone freezes.

Luci says, wait. She can stay. She tells Ginny, let them go. She can help make it. John says, they can get out of this. They’ve gotten out of worse scrapes. Sarah says, no, but Luci says, this way , they can keep everyone going; keep them alive. Ginny says, sounds like a deal to her. Luci tells her to give them a tanker of gas, and Ginny says, they can do that. Luci tells June, use it. Everyone leave, and then prove them wrong. Ginny doesn’t see that happening, but if they change their minds, do reach out. At the rate they’re expanding, they won’t have a hard time finding them.

The tanker pulls out, along with the other cars, leaving Luci behind. Ginny smiles.

Next time, Al and Morgan meet a group while on their way back to the convoy; Daniel says  it’s him, Grace, and a cat with serious behavioral issues; and Ginny says someone knows how to make an entrance.

😱 It’s Déjà Redrum All Over Again…

I need to hurry up and finish the book before the movie comes out. Even though it’s the sequel to The Shining, IMO, it stands on its own. I’m hoping the movie doesn’t disappoint – it looks promising.

September 1, 2019 – Charlie Meets a Rabbi, Deck in Thailand, Cashew (Bless You), What’s On & Workin’

Fear the Walking Dead

A rabbi celebrates Shabbat. He sings in Hebrew. Someone – or something – bangs at the door. He says if they were alive, he’d  let them in, but they have nothing to talk about. He’s sure they’re not so good at conversation. The banging continues. He extinguishes his candle, and says, you want to talk, let’s talk. He goes to the door, taking a gun with a bayonet down from the wall. He pushes the door open, and smashes a zombie in the head. He looks around outside. Everything is quiet, and he closes the gate of a metal fence around the property. He hears something and picks up the gun again. He sees some zombies messing around a car, and dispatches them with the bayonet, but one grabs him and pulls him down. The car door opens, knocking the zombie off of him, and he shoots it. Charlie peeks out, and he asks if she’s okay. She nods, and he asks her name. She says, Charlie, and they shake hands. He says he’s Rabbi Jacob Kessler, and welcomes her to his temple. She picks up his yarmulke, and says, sorry. She saw the light. He says, it’s not a light. It’s the flame of truth; the presence of God. God led her there, but God needs new batteries. He suggests getting her something to eat, and maybe a towel. She is pretty dirty.

I’m loving how the opening credits change every week. A tie-in object in the empty field.

The convoy flattens a zombie into roadkill. They get out of the trucks, and put up a fence, then make a circle of vehicles with the camp in the middle. John says this is the second time they’ve had to set up. Traveling by night, and watching by day is taking its toll. June says it might take Morgan, Alicia, and Victor a while. Sarah says they need gas, and June says they’ll do another run. John says, it’s not just about gas. They need to stop, and take a breath. June says, this isn’t the place to do it. Dwight approaches them, and says, the headcount is off. Someone is missing. June asks, who?

Charlie opens her eyes and looks out over the temple from the balcony. Jacob pikes a zombie at the fence. Charlie tells him, that she can help. He says she’s not the first person to fall asleep there. She says she’s mostly been sleeping in cars lately, and not getting much sleep. She stabs a zombie, and he asks why the dead are following her. She says she was looking for something, and got separated from her group. He says, she has a group? They have to get her back to them. She asks if he thinks God led her there, and he says, she doesn’t? She says, why would He? and Jacob says, why wouldn’t He? She asks if he always answers a question with a question, and he says, does he? Maybe she’s there because there’s something she needs, and she’s finally going to find it. He says, Yeshua calls, and goes back inside. Charlie follows.

Jacob puts on his prayer shawl, and Charlie asks what happened to his people. He says, what happened to most people. He used to talk to his congregation about souls rising to be reunited with their bodies at the end of the world. He got it half right. She asks why he still does it if no one if there. He says it works for him, and because it’s tradition. Tradition is important. More now than ever. The lights dim, and he says it’s his last battery. It can’t go dark; he has to find batteries. She  tells him, wait. She knows where they can get some.

Charlie radios the convoy. June asks if she’s all right. Sorry; she thought they were all accounted for. Charlie says it’s not her fault. They didn’t leave without her; she ran away. June asks, why? and Charlie says she can’t keep living the way they have. She wants to find a place where they can settle. She’s checked some places, and none seemed right, but she thinks she might have found a place to call home. She tells June, come see for herself. And bring car batteries.

Jacob kills another zombie, and Charlie asks where they’re coming from. He says, there must be a gap in the fence. He’ll find it. She says her friends are coming to help. He tells her, helping to keep the flame going is a mitzvah. He’ll take care of the fence. She can wait inside, and make herself at home. On his way back out, he looks at the zombie on the ground. From the look on his face, I think he knew them. He hears zombie noises coming from another building. The door is boarded up, but the bottom board is gone, and a zombie is stuck halfway through the opening. He pulls the zombie out, and uses the bayonet on it. Another is starting to wiggle out, and he shoves it back in, then puts the board back. The crowd inside bangs against a double glass door that’s chained and padlocked. Jacob tightens the chain. He puts his palms on the glass, and prays in Hebrew.

June tells Jacob she can’t tell him how much it meant. John says, it’s the least they can do; he kept Charlie safe. Jacob hooks up a new car battery. He asks how big the convoy is, and June says they’re up to 36. Jacob says, the mystics believe there are only 36 righteous people in the world at any given time. Maybe he’s met three tonight. June says they should go, but Charlie says she told Jacob that they’d help fix the fence. Jacob says they’ve done more than enough. Charlie says he helped her; let them help him. John gives Jacob a caramel candy, and Jacob gives John a yarmulke. John puts it on, and asks how he looks. Jacob says, goyish. Kind of like the Pope, but not bad. John puts his cowboy hat on over the yarmulke, which is both charming and funny.

June pikes a zombie near the fence, and Charlie tells her to pull Al’s tank in, but June is afraid it might bring whole thing down. She knows Charlie wants a place to settle, but it’s not big enough, and there’s no water source for miles. Charlie says, it’s not perfect, but it’s better than what they’re doing. Going on a run, and not know if home will be there when they get back. June asks if it’s about how it used to be, and Charlie asks if it’s really that different. June says, they’re different. They might have been in a caravan that went bad, but this won’t. Charlie tells her, she said the same thing then. June says the tanker is unprotected. This place isn’t what Charlie wants it to be. They need to get back to the convoy.

Dwight sips beer with Sarah, and says, not bad. He looks through the binoculars, and Sarah asks if there’s any sign. He says, not yet. They’ll be back. Sarah says, here’s to the road. Dwight says he can’t remember anything but. Sarah hears that. She and Wen have pounded the pavement since before the munchers started munching. Dwight says, at least they had each other. She asks how long he’s been hoofing it solo, and he says he lost track of time. She says, she’d go off the deep end, that long with no one to talk to. He says he almost did, and she asks if his gal kept him going. He says, walkers too. He’s been watching them, wandering around. Who knows how far they came from, or where they’re going. Life on the road forever. Sarah says, the hell with that. Dwight looks through the binoculars again, and says, sh*t. Logan’s guys. They found us.

Charlie asks if Jacob makes his own wine, and he says, Mogen David isn’t not easy to come by. He has a small vineyard out back, and a bit of a green. She says, he told her God led her there for a reason, and she thinks he may be right. Jacob says she looks better, and the eternal flame looks better; what the have is a win-win. Charlie wants to live there. They all can. John doesn’t think it’s a good idea, and she asks, why not? June says they need to get going, but Charlie says, they can go. She’s staying. Jacob says she should be with her people. He appreciates what they’ve done. Sarah radios June, who asks, what’s wrong? Sarah says, Logan tracked them down. June asks how he found them, and Sarah has no clue, but they’ve got to get the hell out. June says they’re on their way. The convoy abandons camp.

Inside the temple, the group hears zombie noises outside. Charlie wonders how they got in. Jacob tells Charlie, don’t worry. They’re not there because of her. They’re there because of him. She asks who they are, and he says, his congregation.

Jacob says, they put up fences, gathered food water, and managed for weeks. They ran low on supplies, so he left to find some. When he came back… June says, he found them like this. Sorry. Jacob says he’s sorry. They’re only there because they’re helping him. John says, they’re not done yet. Charlie says, if they stay quiet, the zombies will go away, but June says, that could take days. John says they’re on a tighter timetable than that. He has an idea.

John starts climb down a fire escape from the roof – the kind that’s like ladders hooked together – and June follows. It’s outside the reach of the zombies, but they’re still pretty close. John says, they can do this, and unhooks a ladder, dropping it onto the top of a truck. He hands June his gun. The zombies reach for him, as he jets across. One grabs his pant leg, but he kicks it good. June goes next. She’s a little slower, but makes it.

Sarah radios June, saying they’ll meet at the rendezvous. What these guys want, is what’s in the tanks. They’ll make sure they don’t get it. A voice on the radio says Dwight should have taken a shot while he had the chance. Sarah says, he knows this d*ck? and Dwight says, he had him, and let him go. He thought he was doing a good thing. Sarah says, no good deed, right? She radios June, and says they can use the assist. June says, working on it, as she and John struggle moving the ladder.

They move the ladder to the next truck. June goes first, with John following, but as he gets to the middle, he falls, still staying on the ladder. June shoots some of the closest zombies, and John scoots on his butt the rest of the way. Charlie and Jacob watch, and Charlie radios June, saying, they’re almost there. June starts across, but the ladder falls. She’s able to scramble back, but John and June are left stuck on top of a truck. Charlie says, what happened? and June says they’re not going to make it. She radios Sarah, and says it could take longer than they were thinking. John says they might be on their own.

John wonders how it happened. He guesses June was just in the right place. She says if she could explain it, she would. The zombies crowd around the car. Charlie says, okay. They’ll pick them off one by one. She asks Jacob how many bullets he has, but he says he can’t use bullets on them. John doesn’t think they have enough time. June says Charlie knows how to fix this; same as they used to. Charlie shakes her head, and says, no. She’s not giving this place up. Jacob says, it’s okay, but she says, it’s not, because she saw the light. He said God led her there. He says he shouldn’t have told her that. He doesn’t believe in God. He hasn’t for a long time. She says, because of what happened to them when he left? He says he didn’t go to get supplies. He started to lose faith. He  saw what was happening; what people were doing to each other. She asks why he left, and he asks how he could lead them if he didn’t believe? He looked for something to change his mind, but he didn’t find it. When he came back, they were already dead, and locked inside. It wasn’t pleasant. He’s alive because he left. He’s alive because he didn’t believe in God. If that isn’t a clear message, he doesn’t know what is. She says, what about the prayers? The lamp? He says it’s all he has left. Now he’s put her and her friends at great risk. He couldn’t let go. Don’t do the same. He tells her, don’t lose her people because she can’t let go of what thinks this place could be.

Charlie radios June, and says she’s right. They can fix this. She wipes tears from her face, and asks Jacob if he has anything that makes a lot of noise. As they shoot zombies, June tells John, maybe she missed it. He tells her not to get introspective at a  time like this. She says she’s one who kept them on the road. She thought it was the right thing. Every time they  settled… John says, it’s not the way she’d hoped, but maybe it would be the same on the road, or if they were stationery, given the current circumstances. Jacob blows the shofar, and the zombies all turn in his direction. They begin to stream into the temple, and Jacob tells Charlie, come on. She runs in, and they both run up to the balcony.

John and June pike the few zombies that are left, and run to the temple. They shut the doors and put a pole across, so the zombies can’t get out. Charlie and Jacob watch from the balcony. He says, sorry it didn’t end up being a place she could call home. The light sputters out, and all of us feel sad. Charlie says, it’s okay. Jacob says, Yeshua calls. He and Charlie leave out the back. I’m not Jewish, but this is breaking my heart a little.

Sarah says, turd in a toilet bowl, and tells Dwight that they’re running out of gas. He says they’re driving a tanker, but she says, it’s not bottomless mimosas. The tank isn’t connected. They come to a stop under a bridge. Sarah says, sh*t, and they get their guns ready. The cars following them pull up next to the truck. They just stare at each other, and Sarah tells Dwight they’re going down with the ship. She hopes they don’t end up crispy critters. He says it’s been fun riding with her, and she says, him too. Sarah stares at the driver in the car next to her again. He looks back for a moment, and the cars leave. Dwight wonders where they’re going, and Sarah says, something scared them off. She sees Al’s tank coming up the road, and breaths a sigh of relief.

June tells Charlie, it’s lucky she ran into a rabbi and not someone else. Charlie says, sorry. June says maybe she kept pushing everyone too hard. Saying they should find the right place. Maybe she’s holding onto an idea that’s not out there. Jacob asks what makes her think it is out there? and she says she doesn’t know. She just feels it. Jacob doesn’t know about them, but he’s going start looking again. Charlie asks, for what? and he says for what he needs to find. And he won’t stop until he finds it. John says they’ll have as much gas as they need after they make a run to the oilfields. June says, they’ll keep driving, and keep hoping they find the place they’re meant to be. Charlie says, they will.

Sarah puts gas in the truck. She introduces herself to Jacob, and says it’s good to have him with them. She asks if he knows how far it is to Yom Kippur. She has some things to atone for. He says she has some time yet. Dwight asks if she’s Jewish, and she says, Rabinowitz, card carrying member of the tribe. She asks Jacob if he’s every celebrated Shabbat with beer, and he says he makes his own wine. She says, her kind of rabbi.

John tells Dwight, at least Logan’s crew is off their back for the time being. Dwight tells John they’ve burned through a lot of gas. John bets he didn’t count on the cavalry showing up. He says from what he’s seen of Logan and his guys, they don’t do anything by accident.

Logan radios one of the men, who says, those a-holes are as far away as possible. All clear. That’s what Logan likes to hear. A woman in the car with him says they’re almost out of gas. He says, no, they’re not. We see a sign that says Lonesome Quarry, and the woman says they’re looking for oil, not rocks. Logan says, Doris, hang onto your hat. We’re about to buy ourselves a ticket to the Promised Land.

Next time, a roadblock, a showdown, and Doris calls Logan on his statement about the Promised Land.

Fear the Walking Dead

Alicia goes to the tree that says, if you’re reading this you are still here. she asks, but where are you? A zombie pokes out of the bushes, his arms tangled in them. One arm falls off as he pulls himself out. Alicia takes a knife out of her back pocket. The zombie faceplants, but another comes from the other direction. A third comes out of nowhere, and grabs Alicia. She calls for Victor. She accidently drops her knife, and as she’s fumbling around for it, Victor comes up from behind, and pikes the zombie in the head with Alicia’s old weapon. Just for good measure, he gets a few more that have arrived. He asks if she’s all right. She is, and says she’s sorry, but he tells her, don’t be. He finishes off the bush zombie, and Alicia asks him, does he ever get the feeling the universe is trying to tell him something? They keep going.

Alicia checks a map. Victor says they’re low on fuel. She asks if he doesn’t think they’ll find the convoy. He says, even if they do, what help they can be? He’s not sure it’s good for Alicia be out there. What does she think this person is going to do that they can’t? She isn’t sure, but she does know how she feels when she sees the trees. A man’s voice on the radio asks if anyone is there. Alicia copies, and he asks who it is. She says, you go first, and he says, Alicia? Victor says, he saw the tapes? and he says, Mitch? Victor says, it’s Victor. How may they assist him? He says his name is Wes, and Victor owes him a ride.

Wes’s motorcycle is loaded on the back of the truck. Alicia asks, what happened? and Wes says all these holes spontaneously erupted in his bike. Some a-holes did it. He thanks them for the movie. This all happened because he was busy watching it. He says Logan is a big fan of theirs, and Alicia asks why Wes didn’t call sooner. He says he didn’t know if they were real. Usually people who claim to be good, are just the opposite. He thought he’d push his bike home, but he can’t. His brother is waiting, and probably thinks he turned into an eater by now.  Victor kills a passing zombie. Alicia tells Wes, get in.

Al and Morgan go inside a bank. They get rid of some zombies in the lobby. Al tells Morgan it might be time for a new stick, but he’s good. Al opens the vault. Morgan asks how she knew the combination, and she says she went out with a manager a while back. When she opens the door, a zombie pops out, and she dispatches it. A dead employee lies on the floor, apparently a suicide, and Morgan says, a helluva way to go. He asks if Al doesn’t think it’s overkill, but she says, no; it’s smart. If something happens to them, the tapes will survive. Morgan says if something happens to them, he’s not sure there will be anyone left to watch them. Al says if Logan and his d*ck squad keep trashing the truck stops, they need as many backups as they can get. She asks why he joined her, and Morgan says he didn’t think it was smart for her to be out on her own.. She asks if he’s going to make her work for it, and he says, there’s nothing to work for. He goes to the car to get the bags of tapes.

Wes asks how long they’ve been looking for the person who painted the trees? Alicia says he saw the tape. He asks how that’s going, and she says, it’s going. He tells them not to take it the wrong way, but don’t they have bigger fish to fry? Victor says, there’s no fish frying for them, and Alicia says they’re trying to help where they can. This is different. She needs to meet them. Wes asks what she thinks is going to happen if she does, and she says she wants to know how they do it. Wes says, the trees? It’s just paint. She wants to know how they see the world they way she wants to. Wes says if they find them, let him know how it goes. He can’t see it ending well. It hardly ever does. Alicia says, sorry about what happened with Logan, but Wes says, it’s okay.

Zombies feed on a deer by the side of the road, just to get some gore in. They drive past to a police station. Wes says, home, sweet home. He hands the tape back, but Victor says, keep it. You never know. Wes appreciates the lift, but Victor wants to thank Wes. He says they needed a reminder of why they’re out there. Wes says he’ll tell his brother what’s up. Alicia says they’ll unload the bike, and leave Wes some gas. Alicia closes the gate, and they hear gunshots from inside. A wounded guy runs out, Wes chasing him. The guy jumps in the truck, and Wes starts to follow, but Victor stops him. Wes shoots at the truck, but it gets away. He shoots a zombie just because, and runs out of bullets. One gets close, and Victor intervenes. Victor takes it that wasn’t Wes’s brother.

Wes gets out more guns, and throws one to Victor. They shoot zombies, and gas comes out of the bullet hole in one of them near Victor. He says, teargas, and tells Alicia, get inside. He’s coughing up a lung, but picks up the weapon, telling Wes to get inside too. He finishes off the gas-infused zombie. Inside the station, Alicia pours water on his eyes, and asks if he can see. It’s just a blur, and he groans. She puts water on a cloth, and tells him to hold it on his eyes. Alicia wonders what the hell that was, and Wes says, people are people; that’s what he means. That man pulled a gun on him a while back, and took his sh*t. Alicia asks if that’s why Wes brought them there; to kill him. Wes says he brought them there to take it back; that was a bonus. Alicia says, his brother? and Wes says, he doesn’t have one, but he did for a while. Victor says they can’t let the guy die; they have to find him. Alicia says there’s still time, and Wes asks if she’s kidding him. He shot first. Victor looks at all the zombies crowding the door, and says they’re not leaving any time soon. Alicia asks how many Wes has killed. He digresses, and she says he can’t kill one, let alone a herd. She guesses they’ll find out if he can help.

Al puts the tapes in a safe deposit box. Alicia radios, and Al asks if she’s okay. Alicia says she knows they’re not supposed to broadcast their location, but she’s not sure what to do. They need help, and there’s not a lot of time. Alicia asks Victor if he can see anything, and he says, not yet. She says Al and Morgan are trying to find the guy, and Victor says, they will. Alicia says Victor has been doing what she can’t for a while, so she doesn’t have to. She doesn’t want to kill the dead, but she does want to help. Does he think both are possible? Victor says, maybe not, but he’s willing to keep on trying until the universe tells them otherwise. She takes his hand.

Al speeds along, while Morgan reads the map. He says a junction is coming up that should put them on the same road the guy took off on. They see Logan’s truck, and a line of men blocking the road. Al says, great. Morgan tells her to stop, and they get out. Al asks Logan if he’s moving his rig, but he says he seems to have run out of gas. Morgan says, someone’s life is in danger, and Al asks if Logan is really doing this. Logan says they don’t seem to give a damn about putting their own lives at risk, but care about everyone else. If they don’t want the guy to bleed out on the side of the road, and want to make good on their promises, tell him where the damn oil fields are. He gets silence, and says, they’ve got all day and then some. He wishes they could see things the same, but face it, they can play this out, but they both know where going. It sucks, because he’s really grown fond of them. Tick…tick…tick…

Al asks Morgan, what about the service road? but he says, too far north. If they hadn’t come across Logan there, he would have stopped someone else. They have no time for this. They walk up to Logan, and Logan says, where is it? Morgan asks why he needs the gas. They might be able to help him. Logan asks if Morgan thinks that take what you need horsesh*t works on him. He came up with it. He bought it then, but he doesn’t now. Morgan says, they do. It could work out for him. He just has to let it. Logan says, it’s bigger than they are, but it’s going to help people. Just not in the way he likes; it’s big boy stuff. He’s tired of waiting. Grow up or die. He wants to know where the fields are. He’ll even settle for a quick look at the journals. Morgan says they can’t do that, and Logan says, they’re going to let the sad sack die by the side of the road. This is the kind of pragmatism and non-stupidism that makes them more alike than Morgan thinks. Morgan says if Logan gets the field, it will put more lives at risk. They’ll find another way to get where they’re going. He tells Al, come on. Logan says, a bit of friendly advice. Helping other people isn’t going to make Morgan feel better about not helping them. Morgan says, who? and Logan says, his wife and son. Morgan says, what did he say? and slams Logan up against the side of the truck, pressing his stick against Logan’s throat. Al stops him from going any further, but Logan looks pretty scared. He tells Morgan if he doesn’t want people in his business, don’t put it on TV. Morgan walks away, and tells Al, let’s go.

Zombies clamor at the windows of the police station. Alicia says, it must have been important, what he took. Wes says, it was. He thinks the pr*ck took it when he left. Isn’t Alicia going to ask what it was? She says, why? and he says, so she can tell him a story. She can relate it to herself; a lesson to impart. Alicia says they’re out there, trying to help. He says, he knows, and hates to burst her bubble, but he’s not like the woman in the mine field. He doesn’t need his wounded soul healed, or be set on the right path. The guy was an a-hole. He just wants back what the guy took. Alicia says, what if he doesn’t get it? He’ll have shot the guy for nothing, and could have died for nothing. Wes says, somebody’s got it, and Alicia asks if it has anything to do with what happened to his brother. She lost a brother too. He says, they’re two peas in a pod. Alicia says she’ll find another way out. Wes says, he died. Nothing melodramatic, no great story. He just went out for condensed milk, and didn’t see an eater coming, and that was that. Alicia says she’s sorry, and the motorcycle? Wes says, it was his. He knows what she’s trying to do. She sees a guy who’s taken a bit of a beating, and thinks maybe she can appeal to the part that lost a brother, and she can change him; bring out the light. That’s got nothing to do with why they’re here, or why he shot that scumbag. She asks, then why did he do it? He says, this is the way things are. We shoot we kill. If it wasn’t him, it would be someone else. Al radios, telling Alicia about Logan’s roadblock. Wes says, see what he means? Alicia says, it doesn’t have to be like that. He hasn’t killed anyone yet, and the guy is still out there. They can help him.

Alicia gathers some weapons and ammo. LOUD zombies scrabble at the door. Victor is there, and Alicia tells him that she thinks she can get a squad car; she saw where the keys are. She tells Victor, stay there. He asks if she’s sure about this. She hasn’t killed any dead since before the plane. She says someone out there needs their help. If this is what it takes, this is what it takes. Wes says, wait. He’ll clear them. He’ll help her. He knocks on the door, and says, this is going to get loud.

Wes goes to the back of the house, and outside. He moves to the front, and begins to knock off the zombies one by one. They start moving toward him, and he keeps taking guns out of a gym bag. When he’s gotten them all, he radios that he’s heading to the back now. Alicia looks over sets of keys, and finds the right ones. A lone zombie walks right through the glass door. Victor runs in, and Alicia says he can’t see. She grabs a pipe, and says, sh*t. I don’t really get this business about not wanting to kill the dead, since they’re dead. They’re deteriorating. Isn’t it just putting them out of their misery? <sigh> Alicia raises the pipe, and flashes back to the times she’s killed zombies. While she’s busy visiting Memory Lane, Victor stabs it in the back of the head. He asks, how many more? but Wes sees what’s going on, and shoots the rest of them. He asks if Alicia and Victor are okay.

Morgan is thoughtful as Al drives. She says they can take the farm road, and go the rest of the way on foot. She tells Morgan that she’s sorry, and he asks, why? She says she shouldn’t have put that in the documentary. Morgan says he knew it was there, and he was okay with it. Al says he didn’t seem like it back there, and Morgan says, they made the documentary to show who they are; get people to trust what they had to say, and know who they were. That’s just who he is. Al says, bullsh*t. That’s not just who they are – ghosts. What they lost doesn’t define them. Maybe what they do. Maybe. Maybe it’s what they’re running from. Alicia radios, and Al asks if they found him. Alicia says, yes, but it’s not what they’d hoped for. Alicia stands next to an empty car, while a very slow zombie walks down the road. Alicia says, sorry, and Wes says, why? He’s getting it back.

Wes follows the slow zombie. When he gets close, he says, hey. The guy turns, but he’s not dead. He throws the bag at Wes, and then jumps on him. He puts his hands on Wes’s throat at squeezes. Wes feels around for his knife. He finally gets ahold of it, and jabs the guy in the side. He says, where is it? His manuscript. The guy says he just wanted to finish it. Wes takes the manuscript out of the bag. The guy says, it’s good stuff; really good stuff, and dies. Alicia says Wes killed the guy because the guy stole his book? Wes stabs the guy in the head, and says they made him care. He never should have radioed. They were right, but that doesn’t mean they’re right at this moment. At the end of the day, people are people. They leave you wanting more. He starts to go down the road, and Alicia picks up the manuscript. She says, your book. Wes says, he died for it. He can keep it, and resumes walking.

Al and Morgan bury the manuscript thief. Alicia looks at the manuscript, and Victor asks, how is it? Alicia thinks Wes wrote it for his brother. That’s why he wanted it back. He just wanted to write books. We see the last line says, if you are reading this, it means you’re still here. She says, the trees. Wes painted them. Victor says, sorry. He knows that’s not what she was hoping to find. Alicia says he’s right. She’s not going to find what she’s looking for from anybody else. She paints over the writing on the tree, and starts something new. I’m wondering if Wes’s brother didn’t paint the trees though. That would make more sense.

Wes keeps walking, and sees another tree that says, if you are reading this, it means you’re still here. He touches it, and nearly cries, looking at the ground. Maybe his brother is buried there? I have all kinds of questions this week.

Victor looks at Alicia’s tree. She’s painted a bird (a dove?) on it. He says, beautiful. She made it her own. A zombie toddles up, and he says he’s got it, but she says, no, and stabs it in the neck. Victor asks if she’s good, and she says, yeah, she’s good. She climbs up on the car, and writes on the tree: no one‘s gone until they’re gone.

Morgan looks at the new tree, and Al asks if he’s ready to head out. He says she was wrong and she was right. He’s not running from anything, but he’s not a ghost. He’s not just what he lost. He holds on because it’s connected to everything. Al says, the good stuff. Morgan says he’s even seen a little lately; Jenny, Dwight – how he used to be. Every time he tries to get past it and put it  behind him, he gets worried that he lost some good too, so he holds on to it – all of it. Al says they’ll make sure he doesn’t lose anything he doesn’t want to. Morgan asks, how? and she says, tell her about his wife and son. He laughs, and says, okay.

The safety deposit boxes rattle at the bank. Everything shakes, and the vault door falls open. Logan says, we’re in. A woman in a truck says, she’s on it

Logan and his men look through everything. Logan finds the tapes, and I curse him out. The woman from the truck arrives, and asks how he knew they were there. He says, like he told them, it’s bigger than themselves. A guy says the journals aren’t there. Logan says they’re going to check the tapes. Someone slipped up, and the location is there somewhere. This is yesterday. How about tomorrow?

Next time, Logan says they’re about to buy a ticket to the promised land, Dwight tells Sarah the beer isn’t bad, and John has an idea.

Fear the Walking Dead

A lot of this episode was comprised of interviews with the characters, being put together for what’s basically a PSA.

Al is filming. We see one of the boxes that says, take what you need – leave what you don’t. Morgan says he was on the run. Al asks, from what? and he says, people. Somebody helped him, and that’s what this is all about. A zombie goes by. Alicia says clean-up was her job. It’s what she was good at. She took a step back, and figured out what she needed to keep going; keep helping. Daniel says he thought that’s where he’d be spending the rest of his days, alone with that cat. This is better. Grace says, she gets up, counts her regrets, puta them on her shoulders, and starts the day. Want you do with the time you have left? That’s the question. Victor says the universe is testing them. One becomes born to do something else; a survivor. There’s power in that. John says, money means nothing now. People who were sitting on piles of money, eating caviar out of ladles could have done something in the world. They missed their chance. This group is lousy with skills. That’s wealth today, and they’re glad to spread the wealth. He tasted caviar once, and it tasted like bait. June says, things change. She reached out to someone, and someone else reached out to her. If they make it spread, it means everything. Duane says he has a chance to do what he needs to do, and he’s taking it. Charlie says when they helped as people, things got better. Luci says, everything else was training for this.

Morgan says they landed the plane, and they did the impossible, a few people noticed. That’s all they needed. Al asked if they’ve saved people, and he says, at least a few. He hasn’t stopped driving since he got the radio message. We flash back to Morgan hearing a woman’s voice on the radio, saying, can you help me?  Al asks, what about communal living? He says they’re still working on that. It’s easier to see what other people need help with. A zombie comes toward the camera, and Morgan kills it. He asks if she’s okay, and she says, let’s get back to it.

Al says after what happened, she wanted to make sure she wasn’t the only one doing this. She’s not used to this side of the camera. It’s been a long while. She knows how important the story is.

John opens a truck. In a voiceover, Morgan says, after they were contacted, they knew there were more out there. So they picked up more trucks, and covered more ground. Morgan asks Sarah if she’s heard anything, but she says. the radio is all quiet.

Sarah fills a big gas truck. She says this is how they keep humming. Polar Bear’s dudes hooked them up. They fill it every couple of weeks. Logan was right about one thing; gas is going kaput. It’s hard enough to get around. Daniel says someone drives behind to keep everything safe. People want to get it, and hopefully, their presence discourages that. Sarah says Logan wanted the gas for himself. He thought he’d fool them twice with the good Samaritan stuff, but they got him good.

Logan runs after the truck, yelling for them to stop, as they leave him in the dust. Sarah says, karma is a bitch. Technically, what they did to Logan wasn’t any different from what they did to Clayton, but this felt good.

Duane says he got lucky. He fell in with the right folks this time. He’s doing the polar opposite of what he used to do. If he does this for the rest of his life, he won’t make up for what he’s done, but he’ll know he did good. And being on the road, he can find her… Maybe. Daniel says, Duane won’t let him give him a haircut. Duane says, it doesn’t matter what he looks like. Daniel says it wouldn’t take much to make him look presentable.

Alicia explains that she rides in the lead vehicle. Morgan gives Alicia a pokey stick lesson. In her interview, Alicia thinks change is good. It’s what she needed. Victor kicks some zombie ass. Al says tell her about Alicia. Victor says she’s his friend. He wasn’t there when she needed him, but he’s with her now, and doing what he can.

June says she and Grace are in charge of the caravan. Everyone they’re helping is spaced so far apart. Grace says they try to keep the people comfortable between outposts. She and June set up a little camp. Grace makes a list. A zombie wanders in, and June tells everyone to get in the truck. In her interview, she says they’ll find a place to call home – eventually. There has to be a right place. June plays with her pseudo engagement ring. Al asks, when’s the wedding? but June says they have more important things to do. As far as she’s concerned, they’re already married. In John’s interview, he says June has his word and heart. That’s all that matters in this world. Al notices Grace checking her lymph nodes, and Grace says she wakes up wondering if today is the day she’ll feel sick. It used to stop her from doing things, but now she does as much as she can with what she has.

Morgan says when they were on the plane, he never pictured them coming this far. He feels good about what they’re doing, and seeing what it’s doing for everybody. Al asks what it’s done for him, and he says he might not have had the answer before he met Tess.

Luci radios Morgan, saying they need some help, and he asks where they’re going. He pulls up to a farmhouse. Luci says they tried to reach her husband on the walkie. From inside, Tess radios Luci, saying she doesn’t know what’s taking so long. Morgan asks if she can come out, but she says she can’t. They rigged the field, and she doesn’t know where they are. John joins them, and Morgan wonders what she’s talking about, when a zombie comes through the gate, and blows up. John says, landmines. Pieces of zombie rain down on them. Morgan asks, how many more? but Tess doesn’t know. John says the noise is going to bring more, and Morgan says they have to fix the fence.

Sarah listens to Convoy in her truck, and sings along over the radio. In her interview, Charlie says, they like their trucker music. Duane says, it’s all they listen to. Daniel says, this is not music. Sarah says, it’s not just music; it’s their anthem. It’s how they stay in touch when Wen is watching the kids in tanktown. Daniel says, they should have shot Logan in the mouth as soon as he opened it. No more words. He’s proven worth of his words.

Tess says the landmines were put everywhere. Morgan says they have to keep the zombies away from the fence. He asks where Tess’s husband went, and she says to the drugstore for an inhaler. Their son has asthma. Morgan asks if he’s okay, and she says, yes… no… yes. Morgan says they’ll send people to look for him. He asks her if she won’t come out in the meantime, and see what they look like. She asks about the cameras, and John suggests turning them off, but Al says, no. It’s important. Morgan says they’re recording so they can show people what they’re about. Al says not many people saw what they did, and they’re trying to figure the best way to get the message out. So people know they’re not full of crap. John radios Alicia and June. Morgan asks why Tess can’t leave, and Tess says she hasn’t left since things went bad. They have supplies. John says a map of the landmines would have helped. Morgan says it took him a long time to leave the first place he was in. Tess says her husband will be back soon. Morgan wants to make sure her boy gets what he needs. A zombie starts to come through the gate, but John shoots it. John tells Morgan, he said it would draw a crowd. Does he think they can find her husband? Morgan says they crashed a plane and put it back together. They should be able to find a husband. In John’s interview, he says it hit close to home with each of them in their own particular way.

June looks for medical supplies in a pharmacy. She radios Morgan, saying, there’s no inhaler. In her interview, she says, Tess needed to leave the house, and couldn’t. That’s what happens when you settle in one place too long. Things go bad. In Alicia’s interview, she says they thought they should split up to cover more ground. Alicia finds the tree with the message, if you’re reading this, you’re still here. June radios, asking if anyone sees anything. Victor says, nothing, but Alicia says she sees a message on a tree. In her interview, she says her mom looked for a little bit of good when she went out in the world. She would have liked this. We go back to Alicia by the tree. A zombie approaches her, and Victor pikes it from behind. She says she hasn’t killed since after the plane crash. She doesn’t want to go back there.

Morgan goes around the fence. In his interview, John says, a woman with a son; that’s what Morgan lost. Al asks Morgan if he wants to talk about it. He says, no. John says when he was a cop, he and his partner went for whole shifts without saying anything. They knew what made each other tick, and had each other’s backs. He was a good partner. Morgan says, John’s not a good talker. At least not always. Neither is he. At least not always. John tells Morgan that he’ll cover him. Al follows with the camera. Morgan starts to follows the fence, but the zombies pressing against it are too heavy, and that panel falls in. They blow up, and John says it’s the ugliest mustard he’s ever seen. His grandfather worked in a deli, and used to say that. In his interview, Morgan says, it was intense. John says Morgan has to get to the porch before… There’s another explosion; Morgan and Al duck. In Al’s interview, she says, words can’t describe it. Zombies keep blowing up. Morgan asks if everything is all right inside, and Tess says, yeah. Morgan radios June, asking where the inhaler is. Victor says the tree wasn’t the only remarkable thing they came across. June says, a walker came at Alicia. Not just any walker. Alicia says, it was him. June says, it was Tess’s husband. June takes inhaler out of a backpack.

Morgan says they don’t know how close the mines are to house, but runs toward it. In his interview, he says it was loaded for him. He knew from the moment he talked to them. Al says, because what happened to his wife and son? and he says, yes. He continues to move toward to house, and slams a zombie. Al says, don’t move… your left foot… sh*t. Morgan tells John not to come any closer; he doesn’t want anyone else get hurt. John says it could take a while, he might as well have company.

Victor drives up. June has the inhaler. John says they don’t know how many of these things there are. Tess asks what’s going on, and Morgan says they have the inhaler. She needs to come out. She says, Ben will be back. He can get it, and help them too. Morgan tells her, Ben’s not coming back. They found him. He got what they needed. Can she come out? She insists he’s coming back, and Morgan says she can’t bring herself to say goodbye. June gets it; it’s hard. Morgan says if she’s not coming out, he’ll have to get inside. June wonders if Al should put the camera down, but Morgan says, they need to see this. Al says she’s dealt with landmines before. It’s either a dud or a pressure release device. They won’t know until they see what it is. Al tells Morgan to dig the dirt from around it gently, so they can see what they’re up against. John gives him a pocketknife. Once the device is exposed, Al tells him how to rig it, so it doesn’t explode. He asks how sure she is, and she says, 50/50.  He says he had something planned for tonight. Something he thinks they all need. John tells him, don’t make any final pronouncements, but Morgan says he’s not doing that. He’s saying it’s still on. He says, on three, but Tess comes out, and tells him, wait. What he’s using won’t work. She’s seen Ben do it a hundred times before. Morgan tells her, stay back, but she says she can help. She wants to help. She knows he’s not coming back.

She carefully walks toward Morgan, and gives him some kind of clip, saying, he used these. Al explains to slide the pin in where the holes line up, and lift his foot slowly to release the pressure. He follows her instructions, and June asks if they think it will hold. John thinks Al should back up, and Morgan says they all should. They back away, but Luci has the camera and keeps filming Morgan. He steps away, and says, let’s go. In her interview, Luci says, she hadn’t gone out in two years. June says, she did today. To help Morgan. Morgan says, because he was there to help her. June asks how he feels, and there’s an explosion where he’d been standing. Tess comes out with her son. In Morgan’s interview, he says he didn’t think she’d come out. Al asks, why not? He says, you can hear somebody’s gone, even see for yourself, and you still can’t believe it. Sometimes you just can’t say goodbye. Morgan hands the boy the inhaler.

The group makes dinner at the campsite. Morgan says he’s been wanting to do it for a while, and they finally could. Grace is making pad thai, and says the recipe has been on her refrigerator for years, and this is what it took for her to make it. She’s just missing peanuts. I wonder if she memorized it, or took it with her just in case. Tess is interviewed, and she says Ben didn’t think everyone was bad. He just thought they needed to stay put to survive where they were, and help would come. He was right. She thanks them, and hugs her son. John says, there’s a proud tradition of eating noodles around a campfire with this group. Morgan asks Alicia if she wants to practice tomorrow, but she says she’s working on something on her own. In her interview, she says she wants to know who’s painting the trees. She wants to find them.

Sarah pulls up, with the others. Everyone laughs and eats. At their happiest, I don’t think they’ve ever looked this content on The Walking Dead. In his interview, Morgan says, you never know where help will come from, but we all need it. Al asks if he’s talking about Tess or himself. He’d said he didn’t think he could answer before Tess. He says he knew he needed help with something, but he didn’t know what it was. It’s been long time since lost them. He still hasn’t said goodbye. He thinks he needs to, but doesn’t know how.

On camera, Alicia says she needs help finding her own way to make things better. John needs to figure out how to make the world like it used to be. June needs to find a place for them. One that won’t be like other the other places they’ve been. Grace says there are things she wants to do. Victor wants to make the most of his second chance. Daniel wants to be a man his daughter would have been proud to call dad. Duane says, he wants to end the day knowing he tried to make someone else’s day better. Charlie wants to do right by the people who took a chance on her. Sarah says she’s keeping the rig chugging for the poet of pavement. Al says she’s making sure their stories aren’t just interviews on paper. She started filming so they’d have it, but it’s become so much more.

Each person says a piece of the end (and I paraphrase). No one can do it on their own. That’s why they made the tape. They need people. That’s how they’ll last. When everyone is helping one another. So if you’re watching, pick up a radio, or leave food, do something, anything. Help yourself. Help us. Help everyone. When everyone starts helping, that’s how they’ll help everyone.

A TV goes to black. A guy (whose name we’ll find out later, is Wes) picks up his knapsack and radio. He listens at the back door, and notices there’s a padlock on it. He takes some snacks, looks at the take what you need, leave what you don’t box – with the phrase help how you can now added – breaks the lock on the door, and walks out of Long Oak Gas. He fills his bike tank. He sees two cars coming, and says, sh*t. A bunch of uniformed people with guns get out of the cars, led by Logan (sans uniform). Wes says he doesn’t want trouble, and Logan says neither does he. There’s something Wes needs to see. He tosses a worn-through pair of boots down, and says, that’s what happens to shoes you walk two hundred miles in. The dead walk; we weren’t meant to. He spent a lot of time clearing the roads, and can’t make use of his own handiwork because their gas was taken. One of Logan’s people takes Wes’s bag, while another siphons the gas out of his bike. Logan asks Wes where the oilfields are. Forget the horse sh*t. Wes says he’s ignorant of said horse sh*t. He’s not with those people who made the tape. Horse sh*t of a different kind. Logan says he likes Wes, but wants to make sure he can’t follow. Two of Logan’s people shoot the tires on Wes’s bike. Logan says, unless Wes wants to join the marching band – he points to a few zombies headed toward the station – he might want to get out.  Wes asks, how? Logan says, call them. When they pick up, tell them they’re making more enemies than friends out there. He tosses Wes a radio, and says they have more bullets than they know what to do with. One of his cronies shoots in the air.

They drive off. Wes looks at the radio.

Next time, Morgan says they’re doing right, Dwight is knocked out by an unknown assailant, Daniel says they need to keep moving, and a working escalator!

💀 Not to rush the season, but The Walking Dead will be back on October 6th.

What I Watched Today

General Hospital

Peter goes to the Crimson office. Maxie says it’s been crazy. Valentin and Nina have decided to prioritize their wedding, happening next month, and Sasha collapsed. No one knows what’s wrong, but the hospital is keeping her until they do. In the meantime, she’s stuck doing Nina’s job, which she’s always wanted, but Nina has minions and Maxie is minionless. James has forgotten what she looks like. She rambles on for a while, then asks Peter why he didn’t stop her. He says he didn’t think it was possible, and it was a lovely symphony. She asks if it even made sense, and he repeats what she said, but more concisely, and asks how he can help. She says he can start with this, and kisses him.

Lulu meets Robert at Charlie’s. He thanks her for coming, and she says it must have something to do with Dante. He says, savvy as ever. He’s afraid he does.

At a nearby table, Willow gets a text from Chase. He’s sorry. It’s a work thing. He’ll be there soon.

Chase asks Elizabeth if there’s been any word. She says she tracked Cameron’s phone to 721 Dewitt. Chase says that’s the warehouse district. It’s a dicey neighborhood. She says she’s going to go looking for him, and Chase says he’ll take her there.

Meanwhile, at 721, Franco tells Cameron it will be okay. He’s enjoyed getting to know Cameron. He’s a good kid. Cameron says Franco is a good man. Franco says he needs Cameron to do him a favor. Tell his mother that Franco loves her. Tell her that he’ll be back. Cabot injects him. Cameron cries, and tells Cabot to stop. Shiloh pats Cameron’s head, which is really weird. He tells Cameron, if it works out, it won’t matter what he tells Franco. He asks Cabot how long it’s going to take, and Cabot says he’s starting the process now. There’s some kind of device on Franco’s head that looks like it was made by Fisher Price.

Robert tells Lulu that Dante suffered a major setback after the shooting. The facility wasn’t equipped with what he needs to be helped, so the Bureau moved him. Lulu says it’s bad news, but hardly a surprise. She asks what the new facility can do for him, and if the WSB is still going to help. Robert says the primary concern is Dante hurting himself or other people. The deprogramming has been postponed. Lulu asks for how long, and he says, indefinitely.

Maxie is thinking velvet tablecloths, and asks what Peter thinks. He thinks whatever she chooses will be perfect. He kisses her neck, and she says she’s supposed to be working. He says she was supposed to be working last time, but she insists she needs to work. He says, fine, and kisses her again. Work it is.

Shiloh asks Cabot if it worked, and Cabot says it’s in progress; look at the status bar. Shiloh wants the information he needs, but Cabot says he’ll have to wait until the subject wakes up. Shiloh asks when that is, and Cabot says, when he opens his eyes and asks, where am I, and how did I get here? Cameron tells Cabot that Shiloh isn’t letting them live. When he gets the information he wants, he’ll kill all of them. Shiloh tells Cameron that he’s had enough, threatening him with the duct tape.. He says if Cameron isn’t a good boy, he’ll tape his nose shut too. Drew and Curtis bust in, and Drew knocks Shiloh down and out. He runs to Cameron, and Curtis drags Shiloh back up. Cameron tells Drew to help Franco. Drew tells Cabot, stop it now, or he’ll put a hole in him. Cabot says, the procedure cannot be stopped or reversed. Unless it failed… Drew says he better hope it failed. Cabot says, the procedure can only function in the way it’s deigned. Forgive the metaphor, but it’s a one-way street. Ideally, when the patient regains consciousness, his consciousness will be that of Drew; the man Drew was in 2012. The screen says memory download complete. Franco’s eyelids flutter.

On the phone, Drew gives the address to the police. Curtis ties Cabot’s hands behind his back. Cabot asks if they must do this. It’s undignified. Curtis tells him not to talk dignity or fairness. Drew says, Franco had better live. Cabot says physically, he’ll be fine. Drew says, mentally…? Shiloh says Franco won’t be his friend anymore. He’ll be a Navy SEAL, or whatever the hell he was in 2012. Drew tells Franco that if he can her him, they’re getting him out of there. Hang on. He tells Cameron it will be okay. Elizabeth and Chase run in, and Chase says they were already on their way when he got the 911. Cameron says what happened is his fault; he’s so sorry. Drew says, no, it’s not his fault.

Robert tells Lulu that he doesn’t feel Dante is coming home. She says, ever? and he says, for the foreseeable future. He still has a lot of friends at the bureau. If anything happens, and Dante’s status is changed, he’ll be all over it. She says knowing Robert is looking out for him helps. He kisses the top of her head, and tells her, good luck. They’ll get through this. She says, she has to. He leaves, and Willow approaches the table, asking if Lulu is all right. Lulu says she’s the opposite of all right. Willow asks if she needs company, and Lulu nods. Willow sits, saying Chase was held up at work. God only knows when he’ll show up. She guesses it’s the downside of dating a cop. Lulu says they seem pretty serious, and Willow says, it looks that way, Lulu says, before Willow gets in deeper, she needs to know what it’s really like trying to build a life with a man drawn to danger.

Cameron tells Elizabeth that he’s sorry, but Elizabeth says, the only ones responsible are these evil men. Cameron says he should have run when he had the chance. Drew says he had nothing do with any of it. Shiloh whines that the cuffs are hurting him. It’s serious police brutality. Chase tells him he’s being arrested for kidnapping, assault, false imprisonment, and more charges that are pending. He gives Shiloh his rights as he pushes him out the door. Drew starts to release Franco, but Cabot says he can’t do that. Drew says the procedure is over, but Cabot says the equipment is sensitive. Only someone properly trained can safely disconnect him. The brain has to recover at its own pace, like a computer. If it’s shut down abruptly, everything will be lost. Drew asks if Elizabeth believes him, and Elizabeth asks if she has a choice.

At the hospital, Lucas brings Cameron out, and says he’s in good shape. He’s running every test on Franco, and will let her know as soon as he gets the results. Drew thanks him, and Lucas says they have a good neurology department. Elizabeth says she knows Franco is in good hands. Chase joins them, and asks how Franco is doing. Drew says they’re doing tests now, and Chase asks if Cameron is up for giving a statement. Cameron says he wants to be there for Franco, but Elizabeth says it’s going to take some time, and he should go while it’s fresh in his mind. Drew promises he isn’t going anywhere, and Chase says they’ll only be a few steps away. Cameron leaves with Chase, and Elizabeth says Cabot’s not a doctor. Doctors take an oath to do no harm. They don’t take a hostage for forced medical experiments. She says, what if Franco doesn’t wake up? Drew says, he will. Elizabeth tells him that he doesn’t know that. Drew says he knows Franco. He’s such a big pain in the ass, he won’t be snuffed out so easy.

Chase asks Lucas, does he think it’s necessary for Cabot to be at GH? They want to take him into custody. Lucas says throw him in jail, where he can’t hurt anyone. Epiphany tells Lucas, a patient is waiting in cubicle two. It’s Shiloh, and I make a loud sound. I also think Epiphany might have warned him. Shiloh says he was hoping it would be Lucas.

Maxie tells Peter that she doesn’t mind picking out the wedding décor; she has excellent taste and doesn’t mind helping. But she wonders if she’s crossed the line between being supportive and being enabling. Peter says, enabling the wedding? and Maxie says, enabling Nina to marry Valentin. He deeply loves her, but loving someone doesn’t make you a good person. It can make a bad person worse if they deceive someone they love into believing they’re good. Peter says, or she could just respect Nina’s choice, and throw a spectacular wedding. Maxie says, on one month’s notice, they’ll have to settle for tasteful. Peter says, everything Maxie does is spectacular. They kiss, and Robert walks in. He says, isn’t this cozy? He just came from seeing Lulu, and telling her that her husband has taken a turn for the worse. And here Maxie is wrapped around the guy responsible. Funny, how things always come back to Henrik.

Lulu bets the things Willow loves about Chase also make him a good cop. Honest, protective, loyal, brave. Willow says, he’s also funny, kind, and incredibly sexy. Lulu says, here’s the thing about cops who are also great guys. They feel an obligation to do the right thing. They want to protect society at large, especially their loved ones. The obligation is so strong, they no longer care about their personal safety. Willow says, that’s not just bravery, and Lulu says, it’s a weird mix of bravery and righteousness – and sheer male stupidity. Every time they walk out the door, you take a snapshot of the person you love, thinking it might be the last time you see them, but you think, don’t let it be the last time. You want to tackle them, and beg, please don’t go, but instead you say, bye, have great day, and watch for a few seconds after the door closes. Every. Damn. Time. Willow asks if Lulu regrets marrying Dante. Lulu says, not even for a moment. If she had it to do again, she would, in a heartbeat.

Shiloh asks how Lucas’s son is. He bets Wiley is walking. It’s amazing how he resembles his mother around the eyes. The strong chin is from his side of the family. His daddy had a strong chin. Ask Sam. Lucas says Shiloh doesn’t he has a concussion. He’ll be sore for a few days, and Lucas ordered antibiotics, just in case. He’ll have plenty of time to rest up in prison. Shiloh says, if he goes to prison.

Cabot tells Drew that his attorney will be in touch, so Drew can speak on his behalf if there’s a trial. Drew says he’ll be happy to testify, but Cabot isn’t going to be happy about what he says. Cabot says when his friend wakes up and tells him about the life he doesn’t remember, Drew will thank him. Drew tells an officer, get his ass out of here.

Elizabeth tells Cameron they’re bringing Franco in any moment. Cameron says he has to tell her something about when Franco found him. He asked Cameron to give her a message. Dr Cabot had knocked him out, and by the time Franco showed up, he was out of it. Franco yelled, and woke him up. Elizabeth says he must been terrified. Cameron said he thought if Franco found him, someone else could. Shiloh was worried about the same thing, and kept pressuring Cabot. She says he doesn’t need to talk right now; he’s safe. All that matters is that he’s safe. Cameron says, because of Franco. Franco convinced Shiloh to use him instead. He said people would be mad if he hurt Cameron, but because of Franco’s past, Shiloh would get a medal for using him. Cameron tried to tell Franco that she and the boys would miss him; so would he. She’s sure that helped Franco, but Cameron doesn’t know. Franco seemed scared. Franco was telling him it was okay, but he saw it. Then Franco asked him to tell her that he loves her, and he’ll be back.

Drew asks Epiphany if he can stay with Franco, and she says, of course (🍷). He asks her to tell Elizabeth that Franco is back, and she leaves. He tells Franco, he just wants him to know that his past, all those years, mean nothing to him in comparison to their friendship. He hopes that crazy experiment doesn’t work, and Franco wakes up the same person, and his past stays buried exactly where it belongs.

Elizabeth tells Cameron, Franco said he’d be back? Cameron says after that, Cabot gave Franco a shot, and he couldn’t answer anymore. She thanks Cameron for reminding Franco how much they love him, and for giving her the message. If Franco said he’d be back, She trusts he will be.

Maxie says how dare Robert? Robert says Peter is Faison’s son. He always has another agenda. Maxie says, Peter is not his father. He’s a good person. He made mistakes because of the lies his father told him. He’s not the reason they finagled their way in to see Dante. It was her idea. Peter came along to protect her. Robert says, and that brought them closer together. No one ever said Henrik was stupid. Maxie says her mom and Mac have both accepted him. Robert says, that’s their mistake. This guy is going to drag her down as low as she can possibly go. His advice is to run. Otherwise, she’ll be sorry she ever crossed paths with this dirtbag. Geez, did I get a different impression in the preview. What’s with Robert?

Willow doesn’t know where Lulu finds the strength. Lulu says Willow escaped a cult. She got away from a very dangerous man. Willow says, not far enough. Lulu knows Shiloh did a number on her. Sometimes she feels weak and fragile because he told her that she was. What she did was beyond bravery. She’s the hero of her own story. Given all the press Shiloh and what’s left of DOD have gotten, maybe she should get some press of her own. Willow asks what she means, and Lulu says she’d like to write Willow’s story for the Invader. What compelled her to leave DOD? Willow asks if Lulu is interviewing her, and Lulu says, off the record – for now. Willow says her parents were always searching for someone to guide them. Truthfully, to make decisions for them. When it was her turn to give up control of her life, it was easy, but when she got pregnant, she had to think for the baby and herself. She needed her life to belong to her. Lulu says she makes it sound easy. Willow says, when she realized she had control all along, it was hard to let go. Lulu thinks the story is a good idea. Not just for Willow, but those who read it. She tells Willow to let her know if she changes her mind. She leaves, and Willow’s phone dings. Chase texts he’s sorry he missed her. It’s police business, and he’s at the hospital. She jets.

Elizabeth goes into where Franco is, and asks Drew if there’s anything, but no. Cameron asks Drew if they can talk outside, and they leave together. In the waiting area, Cameron says he didn’t tell the police about this because he doesn’t know the situation; it’s so bizarre. Shiloh and the crazy doctor kept talking about wanting information only Drew knows, or at least used to know.

Elizabeth asks Franco to open his eyes. Say something silly so she knows it’s him. She knows he’ll come back because Cameron told her that he said he would. She trusts he’ll keep his word, and trusts how much he loves her. She says, please come back, and touches his face.

Drew asks Cameron if Shiloh said anything else? The smallest detail. Cameron says it was something that would allow Shiloh to disappear. Drew doesn’t know what that means, but whatever it was, it was important enough for Shiloh to risk everything, including Cameron and Franco’s lives. Cameron says, he had no right to do that. Drew says, no, he didn’t. Nobody does.

Elizabeth thanks the unconscious Franco for protecting Cameron. He’s a hero to Cameron now, like he’s always been to her. She has to admit, she’s sick of seeing him in a hospital bed. Give it a rest for a while. She was thinking about what he said to Cameron. She’s so in love with him, the world would be infinitely less wonderful without him in it. Cameron asks if he can join her, and she tells him, come in. He wanted to say how sorry he is, but she says, stop. He didn’t do anything wrong. He says, none of this would have happened if he’d done the smart thing and run when he had the chance. She says someone asked him for help, and it was the wrong person. She’s proud of his compassion, and of Franco, risking everything to save him.

Maxie tells Peter, she’s so sorry. Robert had no right to talk to him like that. Peter says his father tormented Robert and his family for decades. He can understand why Robert would want to protect her. Maxie says, that’s crap. Anyone who spends five minutes with Peter knows he’s transcended his father’s influence. If he hadn’t, she’d still blame him for Nathan’s death. Which she doesn’t. She’s accepted him, and so have Anna and Robin. And Mac doesn’t dislike him. It’s time for Robert, along with the rest of the world, to let him live outside of his father’s shadow. He doesn’t know if that’s possible. Lulu comes in, and Peter says he’ll let them talk. He’s going to get take-out. Maxie says Robert was just there, and Lulu says so she knows about Dante. Maxie says he was too busy raking Peter over the coals to tell her anything useful. Lulu says there’s not much to report, but she’s made her decision about Dante.

Willow runs into the hospital, looking for Chase. Lucas asks if she’s heard. Shiloh is shuttled past the reception desk, and sees Willow. He says, how touching his baby mama, and her pretend daddy. She asks what he did. Did he do something to Wiley? Lucas says he was just telling Shiloh that Wiley is at home with his father, who loves him very much. Willow says Shiloh isn’t Wiley’s father, and never will be. The officer takes Shiloh away, and Willow asks what he’s doing there. Please tell her that he’s dying. Lucas says, no, but she happen to notice his traveling companion? He’s wracked up more felony charges. He’s going to prison. Chase arrives, and Lucas says he’ll let Chase fill her in. She grabs him, and he asks what she’s doing there. She says looking for him. Thank God he’s okay.

Robert asks Curtis if Shiloh and Cabot actually tried the memory map process on Franco. Curtis says, they did more than that. Robert asks if it worked, but Curtis says they’ll have to wait for Franco to regain consciousness. If it failed, everything’s fine. If it didn’t… Robert says they’ll have to deal with the fallout.

Drew stops Shiloh, and says he claimed Drew had some information that could make him disappear. Shiloh says, the key to our future lies in our past. Zzzz… Drew tells him, knock it off. Cameron sees Shiloh, and runs toward him, but Drew grabs Cameron before he reaches Shiloh, who’s laughing his head off. He says, come and get me, kid. Cameron says he’s going to pay for this. He thinks he can just erase his stepfather. Shiloh is the one who should be erased. Shiloh says his stepfather wanted to do it. Cameron is his witness.  Drew tells the officer to get Shiloh out of there. Shiloh laughs like a hyena, as he’s led away. Drew tells Cameron, breathe. Cameron says he’s going to make Shiloh pay.

Lulu tells Maxie that she never wanted Dante to go after Raj. They never discussed it; it was a done deal, just like the divorce. Too bad. She loves him, and doesn’t want a divorce. She’s choosing to honor her vows. For better or worse; for sickness and in health. She won’t fight Dante in court, but if he wants to end the marriage, it’s entirely on him.

Chase asks if Willow wants water or bad coffee, but she just wants him to stay there. He asks what happened, and she says he texted her, saying he was going to be late because of work, then he landed in the hospital. He says he told her that he was at the hospital, not in the hospital. His job requires it sometimes. She says, all she saw was his name and hospital, and her imagination ran away. She thought something happened. She tells him, stop smiling; it’s making her feel better, which makes her feel stupid. He says he can’t turn it off when he’s around her. She tells him to promise never to scare her again like that. He says he’ll do his best, and they kiss.

Cameron asks why Drew stopped him. Drew says because assaulting a dirtbag is still a crime. Cameron and his mom have enough to worry about. Cameron says he never felt that helpless. Drew says he feels helpless too. He wasn’t there in time to save Franco, the way Franco saved him. Cameron says he saw Shiloh, and all he could think about was that Shiloh was walking around, after he took Cameron’s stepfather from him as he watched. Drew knows it hurts. He wants to get back at Shiloh for all the people Shiloh has hurt too. Hate isn’t a word they’re supposed to use or feel, but the predators and users… Cameron says, they deserve to be hated, and to pay. Drew says he’s right, but they have to go about it in the right way. The world needs less Shiloh and more Cameron. If he can take that hate and focus doing the right thing, he can get great things done. That’s why Franco put it all on the line for him. He knows the world needs more Cameron. Cameron thanks him. He can’t believe he’s saying this, but the world needs more Franco too.

Lucas tells Elizabeth, the good news is all Franco’s brain functions are operating as they should. Elizabeth says, so he’s physically fine. Lucas says, the bad news is, they don’t know how the drastically procedure impacted him. Elizabeth says, so until he wakes up, they won’t know how much Franco is still inside of him. Lucas says, yeah.

On Monday, Lucy tells Kim that one door shuts and another opens, Elizabeth asks Franco to fight and wake up, and Carly tells Sonny that he can do this.

What I Watched Today

Fear the Walking Dead

Morgan gets on the radio. He says they’re looking for people. We see each of them take a turn at the mic; Alicia, Victor, John, Sarah, Charlie, Luci, and June. Alicia says they just want to help. Victor says, they want to offer assistance, but it’s not selfless. They need it too. John says, don’t be shy. If they’re hungry, there’s help. Sarah says, they’ve got beer. Charlie asks if anybody’s there. They all wait. Morgan asks again if anybody is there. Alicia says it was a good idea, but maybe they can’t make up for what they did. Maybe they’re the last ones left. Morgan knows they’re not. She tells him, dinner’s ready; take a break. They leave, and someone asks if anyone is there. They could use some help. Morgan runs back in, and says, copy. Everything’s going to be all right. Morgan asks where he is.

We see Logan at the truck stop, and it’s a mess. Everything has been thrown around everywhere, stuffing ripped out of cushions, furniture overturned; all covered with what looks like vacuum cleaner dust. Someone calls for Logan to get his ass down there. He comes out on a landing, and several people stand below him. A woman says they’ve searched every inch, and it ain’t there. Tell them where it is, or the next hole they dig will be for him.

Alicia showers the blood off of herself. Grace tells her the water is almost down, and gives her a towel. SheGrace says they need to make a move pretty soon. We hear a siren, and Grace thanks Alicia for getting the kids. She says she should have gotten them, but Alicia says she didn’t know. Grace says she didn’t look. They crashed a plane, and found the kids right away. Alicia says they’ve been doing this for months; Grace never did. Grace says she’s going to be okay, but Alicia say she doesn’t know that. Grace says she doesn’t know she won’t be. The siren means more radiation is coming than got on Alicia.

Morgan sees the coming zombie horde. Luci tells him to get to the truck stop, but he says he can’t risk it. The zombies are too close as it is. He’s going to keep leading them away. She says they have the plane radio running, and to let them know when he’s coming. She likes their chances. Morgan says, keep working. He’ll catch up as soon as he can.

Grace asks if Alicia is okay, and Alicia says she just had a hot shower, so there’s that. Morgan says they’ve got to keep moving. He listens to the siren, and says he’s starting to hate that sound. Grace says she does too, but if it stops, the real trouble begins. The zombies continue to come.

Dylan asks June if she wants to look for John, and she says, more than anything. But if they don’t fix the plane, it won’t be ready when he gets back. Dylan asks if she thinks he’ll make it. She says she’s seen a lot of bad – he has too – but he needs to know that’s not all there is. There’s got to be good too. Otherwise, it doesn’t add up. They haven’t seen whole lot of good lately, and she thinks they’ve got some coming. Dylan agrees.

Dwight and John go through a used car lot, looking for something to hotwire, but have no luck. Nothing starts. Dwight says they’ve got to keep looking. John tries to radio, but gets dead air. Dwight says they must be out of range. John looks in a car, and says, this one will work. Dwight tells him, try it, but he says he doesn’t have to. He sees wrappers from the butterscotch candies he likes on the dashboard. The car starts immediately, and tells Dwight, they’re going to make this thing work yet. They drive off.

Grace drives with Alicia and Morgan in the car, leading the zombies away. Alicia tells Morgan that she should have left them at the tree houses. She couldn’t kill anymore. She says, sorry, but he says, there’s nothing to feel sorry for. When they get back, he’ll teach her the exercises he does. They’re not just about fighting. They’re about protecting yourself and other people, even your enemies. They help him; maybe they can help her too. They arrive at the car blockade. Grace says, get down, and they all crouch inside the truck, as the zombies go by. Grace tells them, don’t move. Hopefully the zombies will keep following the sound. Morgan says as soon as they get to the first ridge, they’ll double back to the plane. Alicia tells Morgan to look, and they see a cloud from an explosion rise in the distance. Presumably from the plant. Suddenly, an errant zombie pops up at Morgan’s window, and tries to get to him. Grace backs up and out. She hits one of the cars, and gets stuck. They get out, and Morgan grabs his pokey stick, still in plastic. Morgan radios Luci, and says they’re coming, but they’re not going to be alone.

Sarah blocks Logan’s truck as he’s driving out. They both get out, and Logan asks if she’d mind moving he rig, calling her sweetheart. She notes that he has a black eye, and says if he calls her sweetheart again, she’ll give him a shiner in the other eye to match it. He assumes they want the truck stop back, and says he’s moving on. He was looking for something, but it’s not there. She says before he leaves, she wants him to do something for her friends. They nearly got themselves killed saving his ass. They’re fixing a plane, and need to find a way to light up a runway. If he hits the brights on his convoy, it will work. He says she’s asking for help, and that’s not how he operates. She tells him, the rig she’s driving, belonged in part to Clayton. She stole with her brother. Now they’re just trying to help too. That’s how they operate. Not a day goes by that she doesn’t regret what they’ve done. She’s read what Clayton wrote, and it gnaws at you. If you walk away from helping people who need it, you’ll spend what’s left of your miserable life making up for it. He owes it to them – and Clayton. He says, nice speech, but unlike his partner, he’s above ground. He’s not his sticking neck out. it’s kept him breathing, and he kind of likes breathing.

John asks Dwight, how far? and Dwight says, fifteen or twenty miles. The car starts sputtering, and stops. John can’t get it going again. He says they had a full tank of gas, but Dwight says it probably went bad. He’s noticed it before. Dwight points out the cloud in the distance. They get out of the car, and John gets June on the radio. She says they must be getting closer, and he says they are. He asks if they’re both looking at the same thing. He’s not giving up, but he might not make it in time. June asks where they are; she’ll come there. He says, it’s too far. He says he’ll do his best to get back, but asks her to promise they’ll take off whether he’s there or not. From the moment he laid eyes on her, he found a reason to live. He wants her to have a reason, whether he’s there or not. Dwight listens as he uses Shari’s words, find something to live for, and live. He says, promise him, and she promises. He says he loves her, but the sound starts breaking up, and John’s radio dies. Dwight says he’s sorry he can’t make it right, for John or anyone else. John sees a message written on a tree, if you’re reading this, it means you’re still here, and asks Dwight how far he thinks Shari’s car is.

Luci asks if June is okay, and June hands her the radio. Luci tells Morgan the wind has changed direction, and he says they need to get on the plane now. They’re closer than she thinks. She sees them running out of the woods. She says they’re not leaving until they have to, but they need help. The zombie horde emerges from the woods. Man, these zombies look tired.

Sarah tells Wen that Logan and his sick squad tore the place up. It looks like they were digging to China. He wonders what they were looking for, and she says, not flares. If she has to shoot sunshine out of her ass to make runway lights happen, then that’s what she’ll do. A car comes squealing in. Wen says they’ve got company. Daniel gets out with his hands up, and Sarah says, Dan the man? She lets Skidmark go, and he runs to Daniel. Daniel says his cat got fatter. Sarah asks if that’s why he’s there, and he says he heard them on the radio, and brought some things to help. Wen says it’s thoughtful, but unless he has spotlights in his trunk, it won’t be enough. Daniel asks him to help unload.

June tells Charlie to get more ammo. Morgan asks Grace if he can use his pokey stick, and she says it should be fine.

Victor works the controls, and asks Al if she’s ready. Al says they’ve got the engines running, and can’t wait much longer. Morgan says they’ll keep them off as long as they can. Al tells Victor that she’s glad she’s not doing this alone. Alicia makes sure the kids are buckled in. She and Victor are scared, but excited. Victor says, he’s got this. Al says they need to leave now, or they won’t have enough fuel. Victor asks if everybody is ready, and Luci says he can do this. He counts down, three… two… and June says, wait. She made John a promise, but this isn’t it. She tells Morgan to get on the plane, and he tells Alicia and Grace to run. Victor tells Al, when he says go, hit it. Morgan, Alicia, and Grace run to the plane, which opens in the back. They hear a car horn, and John and Dwight zoom up, John shooting zombies as they drive. They run to the plane and get in.

Three speedier zombies get hooked in some kind of netting hanging from the plane. One just gets dragged along, but two cling to the open doorway. Al tells them, lose the dead weight now, and John shoots them. The plane goes up with the doorway open. If this was on a big screen, I’d probably feel queasy. They go over the cloud of smoke, and John says they’re all right. Victor says they’ve got this, and everyone relaxes. Dwight looks at Shari’s ring. Morgan looks at his pokey stick. June tells John that she didn’t want to leave, and John says he knows. He kisses her forehead. Victor says, look at that, seeing the mountain. Al says it’s not the prettiest thing she’s seen since the end of everything.

The plane works surprisingly well. Alicia asks Morgan what they do now, and he says, make it back. She says, then do what? He’d said they should keep looking for people to help, and make sure others are living, but how do they do that? He laughs, and says he doesn’t know. That’s what they have to figure out. The plane shakes grace takes her belt off, and breaks the contaminated end off of Morgan’s stick, tossing it out of the plane. She gives the rest of it back to him, saying she fixed it. It was the only way. Morgan says she’s not the first person, and thanks her. June asks John if Dwight will be all right, and John says he thinks so. He wouldn’t have made it without Dwight. They found the car, but thought they hit a dead end. He saw something that made him understand that there are two ways to look everything. He thought he’d never speak to her again, and there was so much he had to say. He can’t keep going unless it’s said. He takes out a candy, and says he knows it doesn’t make sense, but would she do him the honor of becoming his wife. He shows her a ring he’s made from the gold candy wrapper. June says yes, and he says, before they die, he’s putting it on her. He does, and they kiss.

Sarah and Daniel set up numerous stings of Christmas lights, all connected to each other to line the runway. Sarah asks if he thinks they’ll see, and Daniel says they’ll know soon enough. Victor radios Sarah, and she tells him to keep his eyes peeled. He says that’s music to his ears; they’re uncomfortably low on fuel. He sees the makeshift runway, and tells the others they have to see this.

At the generator, Wen turns his chair around, and sees a zombie. He backs up toward the zombie, impaling it on the swords he can eject out of his chair. He didn’t count on the zombie being stuck on the swords, and grabs his rifle. Another zombie heads for him, and trips over the cord going to the generator, turning out the lights. I make a very loud noise. Al says that’s not good. They’re low on fuel.

All of a sudden, the plane starts to jerk. Sarah tries to get Wen on the radio, but he drops it. He propels himself out of the chair. He grabs the radio, and tells Sarah that he wants to say, if he doesn’t make it, she makes the worst beer he’s ever tasted. He loves her anyway. Sarah starts running toward where Wen is. Victor says they need the lights now. Wen crawls forward. Al says they’re going down, whether they like it or not. Wen manages to get the plug back in, and they land. It’s super rough, but they land, and they could see where they were going. Victor laughs

Morgan says, they’re all still standing. He introduces Sarah to Grace. Sarah says they can thank Dan the man for supplying the lights. Dan says he told Al not to show his interview to anyone. Morgan says they did it, and congratulates everyone. Dylan gives Luci the copy of The Little Prince, telling her it helped him a lot. Sarah asks the kids, who’s hungry? There are busted up vending machines that need raiding. The kids run inside, and Alicia runs to Daniel. He’s sorry about what happened. She is too, and says she’s trying to make it better. She thinks that’s happened. She introduces Dwight to Daniel, who says he needs a haircut. Alicia explains that Daniel used to be a barber, and Dwight says he might take Daniel up on it. Charlie hugs Daniel, saying she thought she’d never see him again. He says, after he left, his daughter Ofelia was gone, but he couldn’t let go. (#WhereIsOfelia) He couldn’t let himself say goodbye. Now he could, so he’s back, and he brought all the good records. He tells Victor that he was wrong. Victor says they all are at times.

Sarah, Luci, and Wen clink beers. Wen says it was crazy down there, and her beer still tastes like sh*t. Sarah tells him, keep drinking. It gets better.

Morgan practices with his now shorter pokey stick. A woman comes in on the radio, asking if he copies. He asks who it is, and they ask if they was his plane. He says, yes; who are you?  She says she’s heard them before, and saw their boxes on the road. He asks why she didn’t say anything, and she says she didn’t think they were real. Now she saw the plane, and knows they are. She could use some help. Morgan gets feedback, and Logan’s voice says, sorry to interrupt, but he needs to chat. A car pulls in, and Logan gets out. Sarah says, too little too late, and the group surrounds him, pointing their guns. He says, okay; that’s fair. Morgan asks what he’s doing there. He says he listened to Morgan plan to help that woman on the radio, and he has a proposition. Alicia says he’s got to be kidding.

Logan tells them, because of the hurricane, and other elements, eventually it will be impossible to cross the mountain without a plane. Clayton knew the problem was coming, and set it up so people could cultivate a resource to rectify the situation – gasoline. Clayton wrote down the location in in one of his journals. Logan thought he could find it, but he was wrong. He thinks they have it. Luci says they do. He says if they give him the journal, he’ll take them there. Luci asks, how they know it’s not a trap? Victor asks, why not bring his convoy? Logan says they’d kill him, and them, if they knew he was there. He has bad sh*t to make up for too. Alicia said trust her if he wanted help. If they want anybody to get help ever again, they have to get to them. Soon, they won’t be able to. If they want to help people, they’ll help him find it.

Next time – in three weeks – more people are found, Victor wonders if the universe is testing them, a message is found on a tree, and landmines need to be navigated. Literally.

Fear the Walking Dead

Annie washes herself up. The rest of the kids watch a cartoon and laugh. Dylan reads The Little Prince. Annie tells Max that there’s hot water. Morgan radios, and asks if everyone is okay. She says, yeah, and he thanks her for holding down the fort. He says they don’t plan on staying much longer. She asks if he understands the roads are out, and tells him, don’t go near the radiation signs. He says he knows, and she asks how he’s planning on getting out. He says he’ll show them if they open the gate.

Morgan drives in with the body of the plane on a flatbed, with a convoy of trucks behind him. He says they were honest, but didn’t tell the kids everything. They did a lot of bad things, and have done things they regret and have to live with. Things they aren’t able to run away from. It wasn’t easy getting there, but they didn’t give up. They found a way because they had something to fight for, even if it wasn’t what they thought. No one was on the end of the radio, but they still had something to fight for – each other – and them. They can do this. They’ve done the impossible before. Luci says they’ll need some help. Dylan asks what they do now, and Luci says, fix the plane. Fly back across the mountains together. I don’t suppose there are any airplane mechanics among those kids.

Morgan asks if Grace copies. He’s working on a way to get home, and found some people he thinks she’d want to meet. Near the car roadblock, Grace turns off the radio. Morgan says he’ll leave the channel open. If she hears him, let them know. Morgan practices with his latest pokey stick. It’s not satisfactory, so he looks for something else. He tries to pull the head off of a mop, and Alicia finds him. They both laugh, and she asks if he’s okay. He says he’s good, and she asks for a hand with the landing gear.

Outside, everyone works to get the plane back together. Luci asks Dylan what he thinks, and he takes off his glasses. He thinks it’s going to work. He says the book says to only see with the heart, not the eyes, so he got rid of eyes. She asks if his heart knows how to fix the reduction gear.

Oil drips on Sarah’s head as she tinkers with something. Victor says he’ll get her a rag, and she tells him to get a beer too. She works better with a five out of ten buzz. Victor tells Charlie to radio the others, and tell them it might take a minute. Annie tells Dylan that they’re there to help, so these people leave, and they can go back to how things were. June asks Annie about her ankle, and wants to look at it. Luci takes Dylan and Max back out to the plane.

June says, Annie wants to run, doesn’t she? She used to run too, but never with a sprained ankle. If she was Annie, she’d wit a week, and maybe get a new pair of shoes. And socks. Her boyfriend says, survival starts with socks. John walks in, and says, that’s a fact. He and Dwight are keeping up the search. He wants to make sure Shari is on the plane when it takes off. June tells Dwight to keep John out of trouble, and Dwight says he’ll try.

Al gets in the plane, and starts it. The propellers turn, but one starts to look dicey. Luci yells, get down! as the propeller flies off. Dylan asks if that’s the reduction gear. Al wonders where they’re going to get a new propeller. A zombie toddles onto the scene. Alicia is about to whack him with what’s left of the propeller, but Morgan gets there first, using his new mop pokey stick. He asks, what happened? and Al says, the engine worked, but the propellers didn’t. Morgan says they’ll start looking for a replacement. Grace radios, asking if they have a generator. They need to unlock it, gas it up, and get it ready for transport. He asks, what’s going on? and she says, a different plan. And if he doesn’t do what she says, there will be another meltdown.

Dwight thinks he and John are wasting time; he’s been down this way already. John says when he was looking for June, he thought she was dead, but when he met other people, things started clicking. An extra set of eyes helps you see better. He says he doesn’t mean to pry, but how did Dwight and Shari split up? Dwight says he and Shari got split up before he left where he was living. John asks how he ended up with her rings, and Dwight says, it’s complicated. John says the first time June told him that she loved him, she didn’t tell him. She spelled it out with Scrabble tiles. They never left his pocket. Dwight says he’s lucky it worked out for him, and John says they’ll find her. She’ll be on the plane. Dwight says he’s not talking about that; he’s talking about how John is, the way he thinks, how he is now. He hasn’t been broken or burned or twisted, and Dwight hopes he never is. John says he’s luckier than Dwight thinks. The world did a number on him, and gave him more than he could handle. It was hard to deal with, but he found a way.

Alicia tells Luci the generator is cooling. The system failed, and Grace needs it. It won’t fix it, but it will buy them time. They need finish the plane – fast. Luci tells everyone she’s pulling the plug, and they’re going dark. Victor says he’ll find a way to get them back. He doesn’t know how, but he will. The radio goes dead.

Sarah tells Victor, it will take too long get there, but there’s an airstrip north of where they are. She radios Wen, and asks if he remembers the airport where they jacked the planes. Victor isn’t optimistic, and Charlie says Victor told them they’d find a way. He says that was just to keep their spirits up. Sarah asks is he d*cking about daisies (a phrase I have never heard), or are they closing the deal? She thought he wanted to help them. Charlie says, so did she. Sarah says they’ve got the pieces, they just have to put them together. Victor says, it’s hopeless. Sarah says, Jimbo took one for the team; he took one hard. Don’t throw that hopeless horsesh*t in the air, and let it land on them. There has to be a way. Charlie asks Sarah if they got everything from Jim’s brewery. She shows Sarah a picture of Jim in a very busy add for his beer. Sarah says, son of a bitch. They’re going to get out.

Morgan meets Grace, and she asks for help moving the cars. She has to suit up and go in.

Al asks if June has heard anything from John, but June says he’s out of range. Al hopes the plane’s circuits aren’t fried. June asks if Al is okay, and Al says she should have kept the helicopter from taking off; they’d be home. June says, no way could she have done that. She asks if something happened when Al was missing. Al shakes her head, but I think June knows better. June says she asked to talk to Al once off the record, and Al let her talk. It helped her, more than Al knows. If Al needs to do the same, she can. June tells Al it’s the least she can do. Al sort of smiles, and says she has to check the battery.

Annie asks Alicia if the woman Morgan left with is from the power plant. Alicia reluctantly says, yeah, and Annie tells the boys, it’s not working. They can’t stay. Alicia says they can’t go back to hiding behind the dead. Annie says they were safe before, and Alicia says they can be safe now. Luci needs all the help she can get to finish the plane. Dylan says he can work, and Max agrees, but Annie says he’s not the one who has to decide. Alicia says they can make the decision together, but Annie says she has to decide for her brothers.

Dwight and John find a dead guy inside an empty diner. Dwight says he saw the guy the last time he was there. He’s been dead a while. Dwight points out that he was shot twice; once by the person who stole his food, and again by himself. John asked him why Shari doesn’t have her ring. She had to give it up to save him. She chose to give up everything for him. The only reason he’s still alive is because of her. He owes her his life. When he left where he was, he was sent away. The person who sent him knew the sh*t he’d done, but knew he loved her, so he said, find her and make it right. Even if can do the first thing, he doesn’t know if he can do the second, or if it’s even possible. John thinks more things are possible than impossible. He takes a food ticket down in the kitchen window. He finds a pencil, rubs it over the ticket and sees the note Shari left, that had been obscured by blood. Dwight is impressed, and John says he used to be a cop. I miss what the note says, but Dwight says he’s been looking down the wrong road the whole time. (I cheat, and check another recap – Shari said there was a storm coming, so she’s switching to country roads.)

Annie packs some cans of food. Alicia asks if the kids are just going to leave like they did before. She says there’s no way they can carry all that, and suggests they take one of the cars – if Annie tells her why they won’t go. Annie says Alicia won’t change her mind. Alicia says, then it won’t hurt to talk about it. Annie says they lived at the camp; her parents, her brothers, and a dozen other families. They found it after everything changed, and it was perfect; like it was built for what was going on. Alicia asks, what happened? and Annie says, a herd of growlers followed them back from a scavenging run. They took certain routes, and did other things to be careful, but they weren’t careful some of the time. That’s all it took. There were so many, and they didn’t look like regular growlers. The growlers were from the power plant, but they didn’t know it. More showed up, but the walls held – at first. The grown-ups got weapons ready for a fight, and when it looked like the walls were about to give, they sent the kids away. They had a spot in the woods that they were to run to, if things went bad. She took the kids there, and they waited; eating and crying in the dark. They tried to stay quiet. They’d done it before, and the grown-ups would come after a night or two, but she just knew. They waited and waited, and after three nights, she went back on her own. Alicia says, she saw them? Annie shakes her head, and says their parents weren’t dead. They killed all the growlers, but they were sick. Her mom and dad wouldn’t even let her come in; they had to talk through the door. They told her not to be afraid, and said they’d get better. They made her promise to stay where they were, and protect her brothers and everyone else. So that’s what she’s doing. Alicia says she gets it; she really does. She thinks about the last thing her mom said every day. Annie says so she understands why they can’t leave. Alicia tells her, just make sure she’s doing what they really asked. Annie asks what she means, and Alicia says, is she surrounding them with the dead to protect her brothers, or is it easier than surrounding herself with the living? Alicia sets the car keys on the counter, and says, all hers. It’s up to her whether she wants to use it. Annie watches Alicia leave. Man, I’d stick with Alicia. She’s pretty badass. Kind of like Addie on Z Nation, but not quite as cool.

Dwight looks at the car registration from Shari, as he and John go toward a cabin. He says she might still be there. John checks the car, while Dwight goes inside. John looks in a knapsack, but it’s empty. He checks the glove box, but nothing. He opens another compartment, and there’s an envelope with an eternity symbol on it. Inside, the note says that Shari had to kill someone. The man at the diner. He almost killed her. They’ve both seen too much, and she doesn’t like the thought of him looking for her. She doesn’t want him to get killed trying to find her. She wouldn’t be able to live with that happening. She asks him to stop looking. She gave him hope, but she wants to give him a chance to get out. This is the end of her trail. It’s the end of them. Don’t let it be the end of him. So he should find something to live for, and live. She’ll love him forever.

Morgan finds his old pokey stick wrapped in plastic, and Grace is like, no. He says the man who taught him how to use it, helped him when he thought death was the only way. He thought if he held the weight of it, he’d know what to say to help those kids – and her. To show them they’re not stuck. But it feels like a piece of wood in plastic. Grace says, wood that can hurt him, and he puts it back. She says she’s not stuck. It’s just over for her. He says she doesn’t know that’s true, but she says she has to do this. She has to give them more time. He asks where the other suit is, and she says, there isn’t one. She gets in her car, and locks it, saying, he can’t come. She’s not letting another person die because of her mistake. He says, there has to another way, but she says, there isn’t. He’s kind and thoughtful, and learned from his mistakes. She’s doing the same thing. She thanks him for helping with the roadblock, and drives away.

Luci find Alicia sitting in a car, and asks if she talked to Annie. Alicia says Annie thinks it’s all on her. She thinks she’s the only one who can protect them. Luci asks if Alicia is leaving, but she doesn’t know. Victor comes through on the radio. Luci answers, and he says, the dulcet tones of a songbird. She asks, where is he? and he says he told her he’d find a way. He’ll see her soon. They’ve got the props. Luci asks if they found a road, but he says, a road isn’t a necessary ingredient to this journey. Look up to the south. We look up to see Victor and Charlie in a hot air balloon, and I literally lol. It’s a huge bottle of Jimbo’s Augie beer. Victor says they’re clearing the runway as they speak. He radios Morgan, and asks if he sees it. He does, and Luci tells Alicia, the kids need to see this. Alicia runs in, but they’re gone. Alicia says, they took off. Morgan says, they need to find them quick. Grace is buying them time, but not a whole lot.

Dwight comes back out, and tells John that Shari wasn’t in there. He found food and supplies though. She was there. John told him when he met the others is when things started clicking with finding June. She’s close; he knows it. He says, she would have left a letter, and asks John if he found anything in the car. John says, no, like I thought he would. Dwight thanks him, and says it’s the closest he’s been to finding her in a long time. It’s everything.

Morgan asks Victor, how long before they touch down? Victor says sooner than he’d hoped. They’re low on fuel. Charlie tells Morgan to come and get them. Morgan asks if they have enough to clear the trees, and Charlie says they’re trying. Victor pulls on the ropes. Morgan tells him not to bring it down there. It’s not safe. It’s contaminated. Victor says, it’s the only way, and the balloon is gone.

Alicia goes to a blockade of the dead in the woods. She calls for Annie, Max, and Dylan. We see a zombie with its intestines hanging out. She radios Morgan, saying, she’s going in. She takes out her weapon. Morgan says, him too. He says if Victor and Charlie can hear him, stay where they are. Don’t kill any walkers. If their blood gets on them, they can die. He trots down the road.

Victor and Charlie see zombies filing out of the forest. Charlie tells Victor, stay away from the walkers. Which IMO, should be easy since they move so slow. The zombies stumble forward.

Next time, Morgan says they’re going to do what they came there to do, Alicia finds the kids, and Victor says they have to make a hasty retreat.

💒 What Fresh 90 Day Hell Is This…?

Interesting how I’d always thought Chantel, Pedro, and the families that go with them, often seem like they’re reading their lines. Maybe Pedro and Chantel were originally set up by Pedro’s mom Lydia, but perhaps the audience was set up too. The two families hate each other, so now they’re going to create a show together? Makes perfect sense. It also looks like the ever tired-looking Lydia, who jabbered about how no one was interested in a green card, will be looking for one.

Fear the Walking Dead

We flash back to when Al found the maps. She’s being carried in the rain, and wakes to find her hands tied together. She sees someone in the same uniform as the person she got the maps off of. They light a flare. Al scrambles up, grabs her knapsack, and runs. When her captor realizes, they follow. Al falls down a small hill, but manages to get the knapsack open and finds her camera. A zombie toddles toward her. She heads into the creek and falls, but rights herself. More zombies start to come.

Her captor continues to follow her, and she continues to run. She stops, seeing a group of zombies, and shoots at them. Her captor knocks her down. Unmasked, the woman says, the camera, holding a weapon in Al’s face. Al opens the knapsack. and shows her there’s nothing but the case. The woman asks, where is it? and Al says something I can’t decipher, but it’s probably bullsh*t.

Imprisoned in a car, Al bites at her ties. She sees a field with barbed wire fencing. I wonder, what happened? Did her captor have to pee? Al gets the door open with her foot, and yells, hey, baldie! to a zombie. She tells him, come here. He gets to the car, and she keeps kicking him back until she can grab the piece of barbed wire stick to him. She uses to get herself free, then smashes his head in the car door. No good deed goes unpunished, even for a zombie.

Al wonders what the hell the woman is protecting. She goes deeper into the woods, past a curtain, and sees a clearing with a helicopter sitting in it. She starts it, but it’s out of gas. She tries to radio Morgan and Alicia, but as the radio crackles, her captor finds her, and says, get out. Next time, handcuffs. Over the radio, someone asks if ground 17 copies. The woman drags Al out of the helicopter, and answers. She says the helicopter needs to be refueled. She hears that in 72 hours, a reclamation team will be sent. Al asks, what is that? and the woman holds a gun on her, but doesn’t answer.

The woman asks where it is; show her and live. She kicks Al’s leg out from underneath her, and says next is breaking a leg. Al says doing that will kill her. She’s not telling the woman sh*t. She refuses to show the woman where the tape is, and says her friends are stranded, and need a ride. She must have lost someone, but doesn’t seem upset. Al asks if the woman is going to kill her too? The woman says she just wants the truth. Why is Al out there? Al asks, why is she? The woman says, the tape first, but Al says, no. The woman says she needs fuel.

The woman packs up a bag. Al asks where they’re getting fuel, and the woman says there’s a fuel drop. Al asks if it’s high up, and the woman says, it’s for a helicopter. Al asks, how high up? The woman says there, and looks at the mountain range behind them.

They drive, and Al asks, what’s on the map? What’s with the symbol? Why did the woman get out of the helicopter? She knows the woman doesn’t want to tell her sh*t, but they have deal with each other. So she’ll start with the basics. She asks everyone, what is their name? where are they from? and what have they seen? The woman is silent, and she says she has to call her something. She’ll call her Happy. She says, Happy, let’s get to it. Where is she from? Happy asks why any of this matters, and Al says, when they’re gone, their stories are all that’s left. Some rocks tumble down into the road along with a zombie. Happy tells Al to wait, and gets out of the car. Al also gets out, saying she doesn’t take orders from Happy. Happy gives Al her jacket, saying she can’t afford for Al to get bit. Al starts saying again that she doesn’t take orders, but a zombie is getting closer. Happy says, Al wants to get transactional? Everything she does is to insure that more stories are left after they die. Al takes the jacket, saying if Happy wants her alive, it will take more than a jacket. Happy says she’s got them, and bayonets each of the zombies in the road. Rocks fall down onto the car and bury it. Al says, don’t stay in the car. That rule has kept her alive before people started eating each other’s faces.

Happy says they’ll have to walk, and gets her gear out of the car. Al grabs her camera bag, but drops it. While she’s trying to grab it, and zombie pokes it’s hand out of the rubble, followed by its head, and bites her arm repeatedly. Happy says if she wasn’t wearing it, she’d be as good as dead. She digs in Al’s bag, and Al tells her, be careful. Happy finds a tape in a secret compartment, labeled, The Bog, but Al says it’s not the one she’s looking for. Happy draws her gun, and Al says she might want to watch it before spraying her brains all over. Happy puts it in the camera, and it’s Al from the last time we saw her, saying there’s a story there, and she’s going to get as much as she can. The picture goes blank for a moment, and then we see her hiding. She says the National Guard is at the East Bridge. The Army is there too. They’ve declared it a national state emergency, and cordoned off the entire area. She has to go. Then she says the Army is in one direction and the National Guard in the other. They’re shooting at each other.

We’re with her for a moment. Al says she should have stayed, and the film stops. Happy asks, what is this? and Al says, it’s not included for the transaction. Happy says she could have been killed. Why do that for a tape? Al says she couldn’t say goodbye to her brother, so she got his story instead. He’s dead; his story is all that’s left. Happy says, thanks for sharing. Al takes off the jacket, and asks why Happy killed her partner. Happy says, if you see someone wearing that jacket, be afraid. They’re a force not living for themselves or now. Al has her stories; they’re about making the past. They have the future.

They walk together to a clearing where there are a bunch of junked cars. Happy looks inside one, and picks up a map of Texas. She looks in the back, and sees all kinds of gear. She says it looks like they’re not the first to make a climb there. Al says, no roads are passable. People could have been trying to get out, and could still be up there. They need to keep their eyes open. Happy asks if Al is good with heights. Al says nothing, and Happy says, answer her. Al says she’s answered plenty. Happy says they can make camp. It’s dark soon, and they’ll climb at the crack. She tells Al, get some sleep. She’ll keep watch.

Al sits in the tent. Happy joins her, and zips it up. They sit in silence. Al says she’s never told anyone what she just told Happy. Happy says they’re the same kind of bird. Al had a job and kept doing it, and it mattered more than people’s lives. Her too. Al asks why Happy killed her team member. She says she was just doing her job, and didn’t mean to piss in Al’s. Al’s stories matter, but some things matter more to her.

They start climbing. A zombie totters back and forth beneath them. Happy says if they don’t trust each other, they’ll end up like him. Al says if she falls, Happy falls. Trust her. Happy tells Al, follow her lead. I’m not good with heights, and this mountain is like straight up, and giving me a queasy feeling. I’d be hanging onto my chair if this was on a big screen. The come up to a zombie hanging from a harness. Happy says they’ll have to go by him. It’s the only path. She needs Al to climb over the anchor for the final push. Al starts moving sideways, and Happy is pretty close to the climber zombie. Happy slips, and I say, f**k! She’s hanging by the harness, and Al’s anchor starts to slip. She tells Happy that she needs slack. Happy kicks out, and grabs onto the side of the mountain. Al says she’s good but the anchor has cracked. Al inches toward the zombie. I’m making all kinds of noises at this point, and saying words I don’t normally say. At least not to the TV. She grabs his tool – no, not that one, some kind of multi-purpose thing, and stabs him in the neck. She unhooks herself, and moves along the ledge. She can quite reach his rope, and I’m dying. She swings over, knocks him out of the way, and hooks on. Happy can’t believe it. Al says, you fall; I fall.

They lie down at the top. Happy says, he was her friend. Al says, she killed her friend? Happy says, they were doing what they always do; getting supplies. Get in, get out. Al asks, supplies for what? and Happy says, purifying water. They found a nuclear power plant, and took every precaution. It was timed perfectly. They were on their last run, when Beckett saw what radiation did to the dead, and he cracked. He was afraid he’d end up like them, and he did. She kept this a key to a cabin he’d always talked about. It has a view to the ends of creation. Happy says she sees that every day, and tosses it off the cliff. Al asks why didn’t she let him go? and Happy says, nobody walks away. let alone with the maps he carried. She hesitated, and thought of mediating the fear, but protocol is to extinguish threats. She shot him. Her friend had to die. Al says Happy wants to tell her everything, but that means she’ll have to kill her too. Happy says, no. She needs Al’s help. Al says if she leads Happy to the tape, she’ll have to kill Al for operational security. Happy says, yeah, she does. They look out at the view from the mountaintop.

At the fuel drop, they find a zombie. Al says he didn’t make it far. Happy tells Al, stay, so she follows. Happy pikes the zombie, and Al grabs her from behind and knocks her down, taking her weapon. It’s a combo-thing, with a gun and a bayonet-type trident. Al says she told Happy that she didn’t follow orders. She’ll hang onto Happy’s weapon. Her operational security. She asks if there’s enough fuel, and Happy says enough for the chopper to get up and get her where she needs to go. She’s not flying Al’s friends out, even if Al gives her the tape. Leaving her there would be a bad idea. Al says she’s got food and water; she’ll manage. They’ll go home. Happy asks if Al has every flown an L-3, and Al says she’ll figure it out. Happy says the reclamation team will be there in 24 hours. She doesn’t want to be anywhere near the helicopter. Just don’t be. Find another way. And even if Al isn’t giving her the tape, she has to destroy it. Al asks, why? Happy says, she wants an interview? Let’s talk.

Where she’s from, she’s not telling Al, but it’s something that will be bigger than her, Al, all of them. Al says, they’re the future, and Happy says she and Al are the past. If someone finds the tape, they could figure out the map, and it makes what they’re working toward vulnerable. She needs the tape. It’s not about her or Beckett, but the future they’re rebuilding; what they once had. Happy says she’ll die there if she has to, but if Al doesn’t destroy the tape, Beckett’s death and her death won’t amount to anything. Al wants her brother’s death to mean something. Stories matter, but they have to make sure there are people around to hear them one day. Al says she’ll show Happy where the tape is. She asks how long they have there, and Happy says, just the night.

The build a fire, and Happy breaks out the beer. Al says, they have beer where she’s from. Happy says she left that out. Al asks if they have a brewer. One of her friends is trying to be one. They share a bottle, and Al says, not bad. Happy says it would better if they’d met before this. When the sun comes up, sh*t gets real. Al gets it. They watch the fire. Al says, everything’s so ugly nowadays. This is nice. I say,  hmm… is that a spark between them?

Al wakes up, and Happy says, let’s go. They have to hurry. Al takes Happy to the creek. She says she had to be sure someone could find it if Happy killed her. Happy pats down a corpse, and says, so she put it on one of the dead? Al says, not that one. Happy pikes a poor soul struggling to come out of the creek. Al takes a bag out from the pocket of another. She gives Happy the tape. She asks if Happy wants to check it, but Happy says, no. She puts gunpowder on it, and lights it. They watch it burn, and Happy stomps the remaining flames out. Al says, that’s it.

Happy says, the tape is only part of the story. The mission… no one can even see them. She tells Al, turn around… please. She holds a gun to Al’s head. Al says however long it takes Happy to pull the trigger, she knows she tried to do something with the story. She gets it, and wants Happy to know that. She can contribute if she does something for Al. She tells Happy, take this, and gives her The Bog tape. She says, make sure the story matters. Al turns and waits to be shot, but Happy says she wants Al to live.

Happy says, don’t chase this story. Do not try to find her. She hopes Al gets back to her friends, and they get home somehow. Her name is Isabel, she’s from Indiana, and she’s seen the prettiest thing since the end of everything. They kiss, and I almost cry, it’s so touching. They walk out of the woods together, but go in separate directions at the road. Isabel kills a couple of zombies in her path, as she carries the fuel.

Isabel puts the fuel in the helicopter. She radios that she’s refueled, and ready to return. A voice says, the payload? and Isabel says, yes. Everything according to protocol. They say she’s cleared for return. She looks at the tape Al gave her, and sort of smiles.

Al sees the helicopter go up and out. She sighs, and radios Morgan. Morgan asks where she is.

Al waits under a tree, and Morgan and Alicia arrive. They hug, and Morgan asks how she is. She says, all right, and Alicia says they’ve been looking everywhere for her. Al says she got overrun by the dead. She ran into the woods. Morgan says she told them there was a story, but she says, no. It was just a weird lighting trick in the camera lens. Alicia asks if she saw where the helicopter came from, and Al says she tried to get in there, but was too late. Alicia says she’s just glad Al is safe. Morgan says they’ll find their way out – hopefully. It’s not just them. Al says, more new people, and Morgan says he’ll tell her on the way. Al sees the others ahead, and says a last name too fast and long for me to type. Morgan and Alicia look at her, and she says it’s her name. She had two Polish parents who insisted on double-barreling. She just thought she should tell them. Alicia looks at Al like she’s five, and smiles. They continue on.

Next time, all the kids join in, Dwight joins the group, and Morgan says they can do this.

Daniel listens to the blues. He puts Skidmark’s collar on, and tells him, let’s add to the collection. Skidmark takes off and barrel races some zombies in a parking lot. As they get distracted by the cat, Daniel stabs them in the head. He pops open the door to an empty store. There’s gunfire, and a zombie falls out. He turns it over, takes keys off of their belt, and says, thanks for the car. He loads the car up with supplies, and tells Skidmark, three traps to check, and they’re going home.

The record ends. Daniel puts his guns back in the rack, and puts away the supplies. He takes a page off the calendar, and sets it on fire in the grill. He puts a can on the grill, and heats up some chili. He puts the record back on. I guess he likes this song. Daniel eats, and shares his plate with Skidmark.

On the radio, Sarah asks Victor, what if he finds Charlie? but Victor says, he won’t. Charlie was at the stadium for weeks before they found her. Charlie sneaks around some cars, and sees a covered plane. Victor radios Charlie, and says, when he leaves, open the gate. Skidmark hangs with Charlie. She opens the hangar, and Daniel calls for Skidmark. Charlie gets in the back of Daniel’s car. He puts some guns in the back, without seeing her hiding under a blanket. He goes back in, and she tells Victor, he’s gone. Victor says, get out of there. but she says she can handle it. and gets back under the blanket.

Dylan looks at The Little Prince, and Lucy says she gave the book to someone his age once, and it helped them both through tough times. John tries to get June on the radio, but has no luck. He says they’re still looking for Shari. Alicia says she and Morgan are going into the woods; the web of the dead has to be on the other side. Dylan says, they’re not in the woods. Alicia says, they? and Dylan say they saw them when they first came and set up camp. Alicia asks why the kids didn’t tell them, and Morgan says they don’t have to be afraid. He shows Dylan a map, and asks where the camp was. Dylan points, and Alicia says they’re going to find their friend, and find the people who did this. Luci says she’s going to fix the CB, get Victor, and see what’s up with the plane. Dylan says he’ll help. The sooner they get the plane, the sooner they can leave, right? Luci says, the sooner they can all leave. Morgan leaves with Alicia.

Victor uncovers the plane. He says it’s not his color or style; he prefers a G-4, but she’ll fly. He’s going to load her up, and bring her to his friends. He goes inside to check out the controls, but there are none. On the radio, he asks where the six-pack is. Sarah asks if he’s talking about brew or abs; although he won’t find either. He says, the instrument gages. He needs them. He sees a note on the windshield that I don’t understand – something about canal 8. Daniel is on the radio, and Victor takes out his gun, asking where Daniel is. Daniel tells him, relax; he’s nowhere near the warehouse. If was there, he would have made good on his promise. Victor wonders how he knew, and Daniel says he knows Victor. He was right. Victor hasn’t changed. Sarah gets on the radio, and says she knows Daniel’s got a beef with their friend, and it’s justifiable, but why not give them the plane, and let them be on their way? Daniel asks who this is, and tells Sarah to stay away from Victor. He has a talent for hurting anyone near him. Victor says he hasn’t hurt anyone, and Daniel says he sent a child to do his dirty work. He tells Charlie, show yourself, and Charlie sits up. Victor says, if he hurts her… Daniel says he’s not going to hurt her. He’s going to save her from Victor.

Sarah asks if Victor is going to sit there like a turd in a toilet. He could be talking Daniel into giving them the plane. Wen says it’s hard to talk with your head blown off, but Sarah says that’s not happening to anyone. She asks if Victor is giving up because Daniel doesn’t think he changed. They need to keep cranking, and get that bear in the air. They need to get Charlie; and get everyone else. Victor says he can’t fly the plane without instruments. Wen says the instruments have to be somewhere. Don’t make him look by his lonesome. Victor laughs, and says, come on. They join him, and look through the lot and warehouse.

Charlie asks where Daniel is taking her. He says he’s not going to hurt her. She says he shouldn’t blame Victor. Daniel says he knew what he was doing, and Charlie says, he has his reasons. Daniel says she’s a child, and he knows better. She looks at a map that he’s labeled Collection. She asks if he set up the traps, and he wonders if she’s been watching him. She says, no, and he says he didn’t. She says he’s been disarming them: why? He says she asks too many questions, and puts come music on his boombox, placing it on the dashboard.

Dylan asks Luci what the book is about, and how can it help? She says, a pilot crashes his plane in the desert. He finds a prince who’s left his planet, and is traveling from place to place, Dylan asks why the prince left, and Luci says, to learn things, and meet new friends. Dylan asks what he what learned, and she says, to look beneath the surface, and not be afraid of the unexpected. She tells him that if he wants to talk, he can talk to her. He goes inside to get tape for her, and radios Annie and Max, He says, ollie, ollie, oxen free. Max asks if he’s alone, and tells him, be careful. He says they cut down more growlers by the gas station. Dylan says the people they met didn’t do it. They’re just trying to find their friend. Annie says, who did this then? In the distance, they see someone in a uniform and helmet dispatching zombies, and they hide under some bushes. Luci comes in, and sees Dylan just standing there. He says he couldn’t find the tape. Luci says, it’s in the back. Let’s go.

Daniel stops at a bodega, and tells Charlie, wait there. Skidmark comes with him. He looks into the store, and zombies press against the other side of the window. He tells Skidmark, this one going to be tricky. Charlie is there, and says he can slip in the back way, throw something like a can of artichoke hearts – no one ever takes those – and he can get what he needs while she covers him. That’s what she used to do when she was on her own. Sometimes she would use music to distract them. Except she didn’t kill people to do it. Daniel knows what she’s thinking, and says he didn’t do this. He inherited the warehouse from someone who did kill, so things could sit on a shelf. She asks, why are those things still there? and he says, it’s hard to find people to help these days. She says, that’s not true. One came to his door asking for help. Now go find artichoke hearts.

Daniel tries the back door. It’s locked, and he messes with the lock using a knife. Skidmark looks in the front window, and the zombies gather. He jumps onto the ledge, agitating them more. He moves to the other window, because the writers want to give me a heart attack, since we can never have nice things on these shows. Inside, a zombie sets off a rigged machine gun, and the windows shatter. The zombies walk through, Charlie and Daniel run to the car. Daniel calls for Skidmark, who jumps inside. He says, one day he’s going to leave Skidmark behind, and they take off.

Charlie asks Daniel how much ammo he has, and he says, half of what it would take. He doesn’t want to draw more of them. They can outrun the herd, but it’s going to grow, and he needs to stop it. He’s going to lead them to the warehouse, and pick them off one by one.

Alicia and Morgan get to where the campground is supposed to be, but there’s nothing. Alicia thinks Dylan must be confused. Morgan says, he’s been though a lot, and she asks if Morgan thinks he’s telling them everything. He calls Luci, and says they’re at the coordinates Dylan gave them, but there’s no camp, and no sign there ever was. They’re going into the woods. He says if John and June come into range, have them meet there. Dylan says, no. Go to the old utility road. Morgan asks, what’s there? and Dylan says, just go. Morgan says they want to make sure what happened to Annie and Max doesn’t happen again, and Dylan says, they’re not dead. They lied. He lied. They faked whole thing. Morgan asks, why? and Dylan says they were scared. He’s sorry, but they need help. Please? Morgan is like, dammit!

Annie and Max wait. Max asks if it’s clear. Annie thinks they left, and peeks out. She doesn’t see anything, and tells Max, okay. Release the bond. He lets go of the rope holding the zombie roadblock, but the first zombie turns around and knocks Annie down. A cluster of zombies looms over her, and Max pulls her out. They get away, but she’s limping, and their gun gets left behind.

Charlie radios Victor, and says she’s fine. Valentin asks where the instruments are, and Charlie says with them. Daniel asks if Victor thinks he would leave them where Victor could get them. Victor is begging him. Their friends lives are in danger. He asks Daniel to bring the instruments back, and Daniel says, they’re doing that, but they picked up some friends. Charlie says, there’s a herd behind them. Daniel tells Victor, make sure the gate is in place. If they have to, they’ll climb over. Sarah says, there’s a bit of a hole – about 36 feet wide. They had to break the fence to get the bird out of its cage. Charlie asks why Daniel is laughing. He tells her, he said he would help, and they’re going back like this. Instead, he’s putting their lives at risk, the same thing as Victor did. He stops the car, and asks if Charlie knows how to drive. She says, kind of, and he tells her to take the instruments to Victor. Take the plane, and go. Charlie doesn’t want to leave Daniel, but he says her friends need help, and they can’t be helped without the plane. He’ll take care of the herd. She asks, how? and he says the same way she used to. He gets out, and takes the boombox with him. He tells her, go, and she gets behind the wheel.

Daniel leads the herd, and Charlie watches in the rearview mirror. It’s lucky this herd isn’t too fast.

Victor says, Daniel just handed them over? She says they would have led the walkers there, and Victor says Daniel would have hurt them like he hurt Daniel. Sarah says they’ve got to get that bear in the air. Victor gets Daniel on the radio, and Daniel says he’s sorry about what happened. He’s sorry he tried to kill Victor. Victor is sorry Daniel is in pain, but if he’s putting himself in danger to teach Victor a lesson, don’t. Daniel says Victor still thinks it’s about what he did to Daniel at the dam. Victor asks, what is it about then? and Daniel says the same thing it’s always about with him – lies. Alicia asks what he means, and Daniel says, tell them how he kept Daniel from Ofelia. Victor sighs, and Daniel wants to hear him say it. Victor tells the others that Daniel got separated from his daughter. Victor said he knew where she was, but he lied because he needed something from him. When Daniel finally got to her and found her, it was too late. Daniel says Victor wasted time he didn’t have. He couldn’t tell her what he wanted her to know. Charlie asks what it was, but he says, it doesn’t matter now. Charlie says they can’t just leave him. Victor said he wanted to help people. Here’s someone they can help.

Max and Annie limp through the woods. Annie says they can’t outrun them, and stumbles. The zombies bear down on them, but Morgan and Alicia come up behind them, and pike the zombies in the head. Annie asks how Alicia and Morgan found them, and Morgan says their brother said they were in trouble.  Alicia says he was worried about them. Annie says they have no idea what’s going on. Morgan says they’re not going to hurt them, and it’s just the four of them now. Suddenly, a bunch of armed kids surround them, and cock their guns, pointing them at Alicia and Morgan. Annie says, it’s not just them. Morgan throws his stick down.

Daniel walks down the highway, leading the zombies. Victor says he’s sorry. He’s not asking Daniel’s forgiveness, just a chance to show Daniel that he’s not that man anymore. Let them help him. Wen says he’s been itching to bring down the hammer for some time now. They’re coming in hot. Daniel looks in the distance, and sees Al’s truck barreling toward him. It stops sideways on the road, and the gun window opens. Daniel runs to the truck, and Sarah says, now! Wen pulls the lever, but nothing happens. She says, again! but it’s the same result. Daniel bangs on the truck. Sarah opens the door, and kicks at the zombies, but there are too many. Daniel slides underneath. Sarah tells Victor, they’ve got a problem.

A flatbed truck carrying the plane joins them. Underneath Al’s truck, Daniel stabs zombies in the head, one by one. He’s lucky they haven’t figured out a way around the other side. Victor gets out of the flatbed, and tells the zombies to come that way. They move toward the flatbed. Victor gets into the plane, and starts it up. The zombies begin walking into the propellers, and get sliced up. After there’s no zombies left walking, the engine quits, and the plane is covered in blood.

Victor helps Daniel up, and gives Daniel his hat. Daniel says he’s not going to shoot Victor in the face. Victor pats him on the back.

Luci lifts the communications tower back up, and thanks Dylan for helping. Annie radios, and asks what Dylan told them. He says, they’re telling the truth; they just want to help. Annie says, that’s stupid, but Morgan says they can help each other. Alicia asks them to please put down the weapons. Max appeals to Annie, and she nods. The kids lower their guns. Morgan says he thinks the people who were there before, the people who scared them, are the ones who took Al. Who are they? The offer still stands. They just need to know where Al is. Max says they can help find Al, but they can’t leave. Alicia asks, why? Morgan says the people who are back at the camp are their parents, right? Annie says, they were, and Morgan says he’s sorry.

Daniel burns another calendar page, and heats up a pot of something. Charlie asks what Daniel was going to tell his daughter. Daniel says, every day brings a chance to start over; a chance she has to get it right. Something tells him that Charlie needs hear it too. She asks where he’s going. He says there’s a reason he’s been on his own this long, and he needs to take care of it. She asks if he wants company, but he says her friends need her. He tells her that he set the record player up, and asks her to look after Skidmark. He says they’re welcome to stay until they find their friend. Consider everything theirs, except this. He takes a cigar from Sarah, and says a friend wanted him to save it until things get better. He nods at Victor, and leaves.

Before going out the door, Daniel looks back, and watches them eating. Skidmark jumps on the table, putting his face in everyone’s plates, and Victor pets him.

Luci gets radio going, and calls Victor. She asks how it’s going with the plane. He says he managed to help someone using it, but in doing so, the engines were damaged beyond repair. He wishes he had better news, but they’ll find a way to bring Al home. Dylan tells Luci, the pilot crashed in the desert. How did he get out? She says, he fixed the plane. He put it back together, and flew away. Dylan says, if he could do it, so can she.

Annie explains they had weapons and uniforms. They saw two, but there could be more. Alicia tells Morgan, this place isn’t safe. Morgan says he and his son stayed after the point they shouldn’t have. Alicia is surprised he has a son. He says he couldn’t bring himself to kill his son’s mother either. She asks their names, and he says, Jennie and Duane. Max says, wait. He hears something. He tells everyone, get down! and they all fall flat. A wind blows through, and Max says, stay down. A helicopter rises above the trees. Alicia asks, what the hell was that? Annie says, it’s the people; they came back. Max says he didn’t think they would.

Next time. Al doesn’t know how much longer she can stay, but she’ll get as much as she can. Al kicks ass, but takes no names – only videos.

🎭 Parting is Such Sweet Sorrow…

I was saddened to hear Franco Zeffirelli has gone to that great director’s chair in the sky. Best. Romeo, And. Juliet. Ever. I also loved his film adaption of the life of St. Francis of Assisi, Brother Sun, Sister Moon. His work was incredibly beautiful.

🔎 Sightings…

Crystal R. Fox (Hanna, The Haves and The Have Nots) is playing Bonnie’s (Zoë Kravitz) mother on Big Little Lies this season. And just from hearing his voice for two seconds on the preview, I spotted Colson Domingo (Victor, Fear the Walking Dead), who will be Ali in the second episode of Euphoria.

Fear the Walking Dead

Alicia pikes zombies, while Luci circles X’s on a map. John knifes zombies in the head, and June cuts through the rope between them. Alicia gets Morgan on the radio. She tells him she’s by the turnaround. John says, there’s nothing new, but they’re keeping their eyes peeled. Luci says the roadblocks form a pattern, and John says they’ll figure out a way in. Morgan loses the signal. Luci says something about a gas station, but starts to break up. John and June come across another chain of zombies blocking the road. He says, these kinds of warnings mean serious people are on the other side. June says they’re serous people. John thinks the chances of finding Al are less and less as time goes on. Shots are fired at them, and John and June run back to the car. John says they don’t want any trouble. They manage to get inside the car, but the back window is shot out. John wonder who the hell that is, and Jun says, serious people. John says they need more firepower. Their luck just turned again.

Zombies climb a windmill tower. Tumbleweeds blow through a Western-type ghost zombie town. John and June get out of the car. She asks what this place is, and John says, his old stomping grounds. Welcome to the Gulch.

A sign says, welcome to Humbug’s Gulch. John thinks there might be a dust storm coming. June ask if he used to work there, but the wind is so loud, I don’t hear what he says, but the town is basically a tourist thing that had actors; not a real town. They come to a building that says Brothel, and John says this is where they find the weapons. The wind blew them where they needed to be. June asks if it ever blows somewhere else, and he says, no. They go inside, and upstairs. John tries a cabinet, but it’s locked. While he messes with the lock, June looks through a rack of clothes. John gets ready to shoot the lock, telling June it’s his last round, but she sees a key on the dresser. He opens the cabinet, which is full of guns and ammo. June thinks they’re good.

Alicia asks Luci how she’s doing, and if she can move her arm yet. She can’t, and Alicia apologizes for what happened. Luci says there are words and actions, and they took action. Alicia says they crashed a plane, but Luci doesn’t regret getting on it. Alicia tries to radio the kids, and tells them if they can hear her, get back to the van. Alicia hears Annie saying not to talk; they’ll hear. Alicia says they want to help, and Annie asks what’s wrong with her? Leave them alone. Alicia asks where are they? and Annie tells her, if she says, they’ll find them. Alicia asks, who? and Annie tells Dylan to hide. They’re cut off. Alicia says they can’t leave.

June radios Morgan and Luci, but gets nothing. She asks John how long thees things last. He thinks they can make it to the car if they hurry. She asks what it’s like if you get stuck in it. What if they don’t make it? He says it’s like midnight, and you can’t breathe. Maybe they should wait it out. He says they can load up in the meantime. He starts looking for things they can use, while June has a beer and some snacks. She picks up a Western show program, and asks if he was a good or a bad guy. He says he didn’t get into theatrics; his talent was trick shooting. She asks about the different tricks listed in the program, but he ignores her. He says they can’t just wait here. June says they can’t help if they don’t make back, but John says they can, and they go back out.

Someone starts to shoot, and they duck behind a building. John yells, hold your fire! They see the tires have been shot out on the car. Someone at the end of the street continues to shoot at them, and John shoots back. He and June run. Getting distracted by a Wanted poster, John turns back, and finds a gun in his face. It’s Dwight from The Walking Dead. He says, where is she? Answer him. June comes up behind Dwight, and clonks him in the head. John thanks her, calling her June Bug, and she says, not yet. They have to get him inside.

An unconscious Dwight is tied to a chair. John says whoever he’ looking for, he’s been at it some time. He looks through Dwight’s stuff. He says that’s a helluva burn, and asks if June thinks he had it before/ He’s all worn down looking for some woman. Maybe he cracked, and got confused. If he’s a killer, he’s in no shape to kill anyone. June says he’s someone who genuinely needs their help. They notice the wind has died down, and zombies are gathering. John says even if they pick them off, they’ll attract more attention, and eventually run out of ammo. Dwight starts to wake up, and John tells him, easy. June says it’s okay. Dwight tells John not to touch his stuff. John says they don’t mean him any harm. He asks who Dwight is looking for, and June says she has to treat his wound. John says whoever he’s looking for must be important for him to point a gun at Johns’ head. June reminds Dwight that they could have left him out there. John says they’re looking for someone too. They can compare notes, not trade shots. He asks if Dwight knows who’s responsible for blocking the roads, or what’s on the other side. He thinks whoever Dwight was looking for might have been trying to get away from some bad people. June says they just want to help, and Dwight says they can’t. No one can. The whole place is screwed.

Dylan tells Alicia that they’re near the fireworks stand. Morgan says he can’t raise John and June on the radio. Alicia says she knows what she should have said to those kids. Alicia and Luci hear a bang, and they run off the road. Morgan asks if they’re okay. Alicia gets out. She sees that one of the tires is flat, and she’s run over a board that has nails sticking out of it. Luci says, someone doesn’t want them there. Alicia says that’s means they’re getting closer. Morgan tells them stay where they are. He’s coming. Alicia tries to call the kids, but gets no response. She tells Luci, let’s go. Morgan will catch up.

Zombies claw at the door, and John says, it can only hold for so long. June asks if there’s another way out, and he says, the roof, but then they need to hoof it out of town. Dwight says his car is at the end of the street. He’ll give them the keys, and they can take it. Go. John says he’s coming with them, but Dwight says he can’t. He put a gun to John’s head. John says maybe he’s being presumptuous, but it seems Dwight has been separated from someone as dear to him, as June is to John. They didn’t always have the good fortune to be together, and John went to a dark place. He shot a man’s finger off because he thought the man knew what happened to June. If he hadn’t found her, he might have done something worse. Although the guy was a disagreeable a-hole. They can help each other. Who is he looking for? Dwight says, his wife; her name is Shari. Dwight, John, and June introduce themselves. John shakes Dwight’s hand. Dwight says if he can have his gun back, he promises to point it at something other than them. June says he’s going to need it.

They get the player piano going, and slip upstairs. Attracted by the music, the zombies bust in, and more pour in from outside. June, John, and Dwight go out the windows above the awning, which isn’t too steady. Dwight jumps down, and John is like, what? Dwight rolls around on the ground for a moment, and shoots a zombie. He tells John, get to the car. John drops down, and June keeps watch. Dwight tells John that he calls the zombies walkers. June runs to where there’s a wagon below, filled with laundry bags. She jumps into it. Dwight chops a zombie in the head with an ax. You can tell he’s in a lot of pain. John and June head for the car. These zombies are kind of fast. Dwight hesitates, and then goes in the other direction. June and John get in car, and June asks where Dwight is.

He’s sitting in the car John and June came in. He pulls all kinds of paperwork and maps out from behind the visors, and out of the glovebox, obviously looking for something. Zombies start to clamor at windows, and Dwight is like, sh*t. John calls him on the radio. Dwight picks up the walkie-talkie, and John asks what the car has to do with Dwight’s wife. Dwight says that’s why he came at them. It was her car. He tells John that they should go. He’s gotten them in enough trouble. John tells him, stay calm. He looks at the back of a car registration, where West on 30 is written. He says when his wife moves to a new place, she leaves him a message. He thought he’d find one in the car. The last one was on a registration, but there’s nothing in there. It’s been at least a year, and there have been a lot of dead ends. He asks where they found the car, and John says, it was at a campground. Dwight says, tell him, and June takes the walkie-talkie. She says, there wasn’t anybody there alive, but that doesn’t mean she’s not out there. She and John were somewhere else. Dwight looks at his gun, but I figure he’s not going to shoot himself, since they took the trouble of transferring him to this show.

Dwight tells them, go, but June says they’re not leaving him like this. He says he’ll get through, and John says they’ll find her. He found June. Everybody said she was dead. Dwight says he’s gone halfway across the country, and he’s always two or three steps behind. He thought maybe she just got a head start or he missed a message or two, but now he starting to see it. June says he doesn’t think he deserves to find her. He says he’s not like them. He did things… things they can’t imagine. June says, they all have. Dwight says he’s still doing things. He tried to kill them because he thought maybe they’d done something to her, but they didn’t. There was nothing to find, and he might have killed them for nothing. It doesn’t matter if he’s alive or dead; he’s never going to find her and make it right/ That’s who he is now. June says, just don’t be that person. Giving up is just as bad… John tries stop her, but she says, he needs to hear this. He’s giving up because he thinks he doesn’t deserve his wife. She did the same thing; she ran from John. Dwight says, this is different, but June says, it’s not different. John almost got killed finding her. Shari is still out there, and if he’s choosing to believe she is, that looks like she hasn’t given up. And if she hasn’t, how can he? The cluster of zombies scrabbles at the windows and drools, looking at Dwight inside the car. Dwight cries a little, and says he can’t get back to them. He won’t be able to. John says, leave that to them.

Alicia asks if the kids copy. She and Luci walk down the road, and Morgan pulls up with a truck. He says, anything? and Alicia says, either they don’t want to answer, or they can’t. Morgan says, they could still be listening, so keep trying. Talk to them. She radios, saying she has to tell them something she should have told when she was with them. She lost her mom and her brother. She knows how much they’re hurting, and how scared they must be. Not because she’s been there, but because she’s there now, and wants them to know they don’t have to do it alone. If they’re listening, tell her where they are. Her group can help. The kids might not believe it, but she promises if given a chance, they will. She gets silence. Morgan nods. Alicia says, let’s go.

John sets down his bag, and takes up his rifle, and June backs him up. John starts shooting, and says, come to me. Dwight shoots a few zombies through the back window. John keeps shooting, taking out a handgun with his other hand. June’s gun won’t work, so she whacks a zombie with the butt of the gun.  John keeps shooting. Dwight gets out of the car, and uses the butt of his gun to hack a zombie in the forehead, but the zombie falls on him, and he’s pinned. What’s left of the zombie crowd around his car notices. John runs to June, who says she has one shot left. He grabs her gun and tells Dwight, raise the ax; hold it. He shoots the ax head, and the bullet ricochets off, killing the two zombies closest to Dwight. He frees Dwight from the zombie trapping him, and tells June, that’s a San Antonio split. They help Dwight up, and John says that’s only the second time he pulled that off.

Inside, John looks through Dwight’s stuff from the car, while Dwight carves a message into the wall. John says it wasn’t her car. The VIN number on the registration doesn’t match the car. She could be out there, or left a message in the car she was actually driving. John says he used to be cop. Law enforcement is a thing of the past now, but he’s trained. It serves a purpose once in a while. Dwight thanks him.

John tells June that he went by Six Gun Sam when he occasionally took part in theatrics. She kisses him. and he thanks her for what she said to Dwight. She says, he needed to hear it, and John says, he did too. He’d been questioning what he has, and why he deserves it. He couldn’t share his feelings, and by doubting it, he was taking it away from them, and neither one of them wants that. Morgan arrives with Luci and Alicia.

Morgan asks, what is this place? and John says he used to work in a place like this. He didn’t know the dividends were going to pay. Dwight comes out, and says, Morgan? June says, they know each other? Morgan says they come from the same place. Dwight tells Morgan that he’s following Shari. When her trail hit Georgia, everything seemed to drive her this way. He wants Morgan to understand what happened, but Morgan tells him that he doesn’t have to say it. Not now. He knows how it ended for Dwight. They’re all trying to start over. Morgan asks how long Dwight’s been stuck there, and Dwight says, longer than he’d hoped. Alicia asks if he knows what’s keeping them away with the blockades of the dead. He says he’s only been able to go so far. He can show them.

They go to where some dead are chained together as a blockade. Dwight says he tried to make his way around them, but they’re strung up everywhere. It’s as far as you can walk. Alicia says, not for long, and they all take out their guns. Alicia’s radio comes alive. It’s Max, and Alicia says the group came for them. They’ll be okay. He says they got the message, and they’re on their way to them. They’re at the truck stop. Everyone stops what they’re doing, and they leave.

Alicia smiles, and says, it’s starting to feel like they’re on the right track. Morgan believes they are. Luci suddenly says, what’s that? and Morgan says, it’s the van the kids were driving. Alicia says, no.

The same kind of ropes that were tying the zombie blockades together, are wrapped around the van. They cut the ropes off, and find a blood-covered Dylan lying on the backseat, barely conscious. Alicia asks where Max and Annie are.

Elsewhere in the woods, someone ties up a zombie, and checks out a map. Annie asks Max if he thinks they bought it, and he says, definitely. She says, Dylan might crack, or they might figure out why they’re here, and who took their friend. Annie says they have to make sure they’re never bothered again. She says he sounds scared, but he insists he isn’t. They leave, having put together another zombie blockade.

Next time, Victor uncovers a plane, the cat still lives, and Victor tells someone to open the gate.

🐩 Come On, Baby, Do It For Mama…

I would be remiss in not mentioning this week’s passing of an amazing actress. Midnight Cowboy is one of my favorite movies ever, and I love the story about Maureen Stapleton thinking Sylvia was a real hooker.

📡 Although it will never happen, I try to get my money’s worth of the too much I spend per month on the 500+ channels, most of which I don’t watch. This weekend, I was able to catch The Hate U Give on HBO. I don’t really review films, but it’s worth seeing. It’s well-written and thought provoking, the acting is superb, and the end both heart- breaking and hopeful. Catch it while U can.

💍 I’m loving the insanity that is the 90 Day Fiancé franchise, even though I have to watch in bits and pieces, due to FWD and NOS4ATU competing on Sunday night. If you haven’t seen the latter, it’s another brilliant piece of work, and Zachery Quinto is scary as hell. My favorite thing about 90 this season is the addition of Pillow Talk, where the nicer people who have been on the show (there are some couples, but also friends and relations), watch the episodes featuring the worst couples, and comment on them. I literally lol my way through it every week. The only thing I like more than watching TV, is watching someone else watch TV. I’m not sure what that says about me…

🌴 A Mini Mental Vacation…

Hoping all the father’s out there had a wonderful Father’s Day, and the rest of you had a weekend filled with whatever takes your fancy. Alas, Monday morning and work come all too quickly, so enjoy the beach on me. Just ignore that dude with the dark sunglasses.
