What I Watched Today

(rambling, random thoughts, recaps, and the whole GH enchilada on Fridays)

General Hospital

Maxie goes through the floral arrangements at the church critiquing them. She talks to Sam’s photograph, and says she always looked beautiful. She decides they’re going with the yellow, and Lucas walks in. He says he thinks Sam would approve.

Kai goes to Trina and Josslyn’s apartment, and Josslyn answers the door. He asks if she thinks Trina will give him the time of day and she says she wishes the odds were in his favor. Trina comes out and says, the odds are zero to none, and closes the door in his face.

Aiden finds Elizabeth at the hospital, and she says she wanted to talk to him about something. He says, it’s about dad, isn’t it?

Jack recognizes Lucky at Bobbie’s, and Lucky asks if he knows Jack. Jack says he should. He saved Lucky’s life.

Drew calls Nina and asks her to come over. He could use some help getting himself more presentable. The kids come out of the living room, and Scout sees Drew. She asks, what happened to his face? and Rocco and Danny look at each other.

Cody finds Dante going through pictures in the nook. Cody says, it’s a great looking family, but Dante says he doesn’t think it’s much of a family without Sam.

Alexis breaks her bracelet trying to put it on. She tells Molly and Kristina that she can’t do this. She doesn’t think get through this today.

Josslyn asks Trina to give Kai five minutes. If she doesn’t like what he says, she can slam the door in his face again. Trina says she did like that, and Josslyn says she has to go. In the hallway, she tells Kai that he owes her one and good luck. Trina tells Kai that he doesn’t give up easy. Why is he here? He says, to plead his case. He wants her to give him another chance.

Drew tells Scout that he’s fine. It looks worse than it is. He’s a little embarrassed. He was leaving the kitchen and not paying attention and walked into a door. He asks the boys for a minute with Scout, and they leave. He promises Scout that he’s okay, and she says, he has to tell her if he’s not. He has to keep his promise that he’ll always be with her. Mom broke hers.

Maxie says she’s glad Lucas is here, but he says, if he hadn’t been Sam’s surgeon, this wouldn’t be happening today. He says, Sam insisted on having him, but he says, Sam wasn’t a doctor. Operating on relatives isn’t a good idea. Emotions get in way and there’s too much at stake to take the risk. He knew that. She says, sometimes bad things happen and it’s nobody’s fault, and he says, Sam is gone and he’s the only one it makes sense to blame.

Alexis says she broke her bracelet, and Molly takes it. She steps away, and Kristina says, it’s not about the bracelet. Alexis says she doesn’t want to bury Sam. It’s the last gift Sam gave her. Kristina says, for Mother’s Day, and Alexis says, it has all their birthstones on it. She cries, and Kristina says, if Molly can’t fix it, somebody can. It feels like bad déjà vu. It feels like just yesterday they were burying Adela. Molly overhears.

Lucas tells Maxie that he’s been replaying the surgery over and over. Sam was healthy and there were no complications. He must have made a mistake, but he can’t figure out what it was. Maxie says, all surgeries have risks. Look at her transplant. He says, her and Sam’s situations were different and there’s a possibility he might have made a mistake. She says he’s taking the easy way out. The easiest thing is to blame himself, but she’ll be damned if she lets him get away with that.

Elizabeth asks how Aiden knew it was about his dad, and he says, the look on her face. He’s learned how to read it. What is it about dad? She says she wants him to prepare for the possibility of his dad leaving town again, but he says he knows and expected it.

Jack asks if he can buy Lucky coffee, and Lucky says, if he buys Jack’s story, shouldn’t he be doing the buying? How did Jack save him? Jack introduces himself, and says he assisted in Lucky’s extraction from Africa. Lucky says he should throw in a donut then, and wonders if the MetroCourt isn’t a more appropriate hang for Jack. Jack says, the MetroCourt has undeniable charm, but he can’t resist the pie at Bobbie’s. Lucky says, Jack has until he finishes his coffee to tell him what he wants, and Jack asks why he’s in a hurry. Lucky says he’s going to a funeral.

Cody says he thinks once there’s a family bond, it’s not broken because on of them is gone. When he came to Port Charles, he was still running cons, but Dante had a job, a woman who lit up his world, and kids who made him smile. Dante says, had, and Cody says he’d never seen a couple so supportive of each other. Dante says, Sam made that possible, but Cody says, Dante was a part of that too. Dante says, what he did right, he got from Sam, and Cody says he’s not as smart as Sam, but he thinks between the two of them, they can figure out just about anything. Dante says he’s just trying to figure out how to smile at anything again. The grief is all consuming, and he feels like it’s going to take him down.

Drew says, Scout’s mom loved her more than anything. She didn’t want to leave. Scout says, he still needs to keep his promise, and Drew says he will. He asks about the flowers Scout is holding, and she says she got them from Lila’s garden. They’re for mom. He says, she’s going to love them, and hugs Scout.

Kristina tells Molly that she’s sorry, as Molly puts the bracelet on Alexis. Alexis thanks Molly and hugs her. Kristina tries to talk to Molly, but Molly says she needs to get some air and goes outside.

Molly finds Ric outside and asks how he knew she needed him. He says, father’s intuition, and hugs her.

Nina asks if it still hurts, but Drew says, it doesn’t. He asks if it looks bad, and she says, yes. He says he’d love her to make it look… less bad, and she says she’s the best designer at Crimson. She can make it look not great, but at least better. He says, it will have to do, and she says she hopes she gets done before the kids see, but he says, no such luck. She asks what he told them, and he says, that he walked into a door. She laughs, and he says he was caught off guard. It was the first thing that popped in his head. She says, that might work with children, but definitely not anybody else.

Danny shows Rocco a drawing and says, Scout drew it for mom, so she’ll feel like she’s always with them. Rocco asks if Danny thinks Drew walked into a door, but Danny says, no. He thinks Drew is covering up what really happened. Rocco asks what he thinks happened, and Danny says his guess would be that Drew was in a fight, but all that matters is taking care of Scout. He’s going over to the church. Rocco says, no matter what happens or what anybody says, they’re brothers, and Danny says, no matter what.

Trina says she told Kai that she asked for a new partner, and Kai says he didn’t know his absence would affect Trina so much. His advisor signed him up because he thought art was easy. Trina says, anyone who loves art would take that as an insult, but Kai says, that’s what his advisor was thinking… He should probably get a new advisor. The only spot open was Art History. He knows it’s not easy. Trina tells him, then drop it. If he can’t take it seriously, she refuses to carry him. He says he wants to learn about it and he’s willing to pull his weight. She says she appreciates him coming over, but she has a tough schedule. She has a job… He says, at the art gallery, and she says, yes. He says, imagine a random guy walking in who wants to learn about art. Is she going to turn him away?

Molly says she didn’t think she’d see Ric today, and he says he wanted to check on her. She says she’s doing everything not to blow up at Kristina, and came out to cool down, and he says he has something to take her mind off of it. Happy birthday. He hands her an envelope, and she says, tickets to 12 Angry Men. He says he knows it’s her favorite, and she says, when he took her to see it when she was in high school, she thought it would be a bunch of old guys yelling and… well, angry. It was so much more. It made her want to become a lawyer. He says, when he heard there was a revival, he knew what to get her. He was hoping they could go together. She says she wouldn’t want to see it with anyone else, and they hug. He says he wishes she could have a normal birthday without the heartache, when TJ approaches. (12 Angry Men is a great play. I saw a revival on Broadway with Brian Dennehy and Christopher Plummer. They weren’t my dates; they were in the play. The acting was incredible.)

Kristina tells Alexis that she didn’t mean for Molly to hear her. They were doing so well, especially after last night. She gave Molly a necklace for her birthday. Alexis says she forgot. She doesn’t know what day it is. Kristina says, Molly will understand, and Alexis says, hold on. Who is Molly talking to? She looks outside and asks what the hell Ric is doing here. He’s the last person she needs to see.

Maxie tells Lucas that Sam wasn’t the type to make a decision based on sentiment. If she didn’t think it was right, she wouldn’t have asked him. She was great at quick decisions and was never wrong, including this time. Lucas says, if that was true, none of this would be happening, and Maxie says she knows he doesn’t believe in himself right now, but believe in Sam. Sam trusted him, so trust her.

Aiden says he knows his dad is going back to Africa. He’s doing what he does. Elizabeth says she didn’t react with his maturity, and he says, they have each other. They’ll be fine. He has a lot more than Danny, Rocco, and Scout, and she says her heart breaks for them. He says he doesn’t see his dad, but his dad is still alive and doing good in the world. It’s cool. She asks where he learned to be so kind and understanding, and he says, from her. She hugs him.

Jack says he was impressed with Lucky’s work at the Kenya/Somalia border, and Lucky says, safe and easy places don’t need human aid. Jack says, Lucky’s not shy about danger, and Lucky suggests he cut to the chase. Jack says, there’s a job opportunity up Lucky’s alley in the same region. He’d be working with the locals. Lucky says, doing? and Jack says, there’s a situation in the works there and he’s gathering intel. Lucky says, so it’s not aid work, but Jack says, of a sort. Not the sort Lucky is used to, but this time he’ll be handsomely rewarded for putting his neck on the line. Lucky says he’s selective about his work and he’s not in it for the money. Working for the WSB, there are always strings, and he’s nobody’s puppet.

TJ says he’s so sorry, and hugs Molly. Alexis tells Molly that she’s so sorry for forgetting, but Molly says she forgives her. Alexis thanks TJ for being here, and he says, of course (🍷). Molly says she has to call the minister, and thanks Ric. She and TJ go inside, and Alexis asks what Ric is doing here. He says he came to wish Molly a happy birthday. Alexis forgot about their only daughter, who’s low on her list of priorities. She says, today she’s burying her oldest daughter. She calls him a heartless son of a bitch, who gets off on her mourning, and he says, when she’s done, her youngest daughter is still alive.

Dante says, Sam was the part that made the family work, and Cody says, it won’t always feel like this. Give himself time. It’s not about losing Sam, but remembering the good times too. Like the softball game where Sam lost it. Olivia comes in and says she remembers when Sam was called out. Dante says, it was funnier because the night before, Sam had a chat with Scout about how sportsmanship is important. Olivia says, and the next day Scout watched her mom come down on them like a load of bricks. Very unsportsmanlike. Dante says, she told Scout, there’s a difference between sportsmanship and being right, and Cody says, Sam was good at getting out of tough situations. Dante says, until she wasn’t.

Nina puts makeup on Drew, and says she assumes Jason was arrested. Drew won’t have to worry about him being at the funeral. Drew says, nothing is stopping Jason from going to the funeral, and Nina says, don’t tell her that he’s not pressing charges. Dante says, Sam asked them to be there for the kids. It’s what Sam wanted. Nina says, she wouldn’t have wanted Jason to attack him. He and Willow just kissed once. Is that why Jason went after him? Jason found out or is there something he’s not telling her? He says, no. Michael must have told Jason about the kiss, and Jason deemed that the appropriate response. Nina says, it’s not payback. It’s a warning. He says he’s not worried, but she says, he should be, about how far Jason will go on Michael’s behalf.

Trina says, hypothetically, if someone came into the gallery, she’d love to talk about art, but that’s a conversation, not a project for a mandatory class. Kai says he’s a team player and doesn’t bail. He won’t bail on her. Trina asks what he knows about art, and he recites the class description. She says, all that tells her is that he read the description of the syllabus, but he says, it proves he can be taught and he has a good memory. That’s a good thing in a partner.

Dante leaves to check on the kids, and Cody says, the last thing he wanted to do was make Dante Feel worse. Olivia says, he didn’t. Grief is unpredictable, and when someone you love is gone, everything you felt about them hits you, the good, the bad, the ugly, and the sad. He says he was trying to help Dante remember the good, and she says, he did. They need good friends to get them through the dark places. There’s going to be a whole lot more of them. He says he’ll do what he can, and she says, Dante has to find his own way through the grief. All they can do is help him up when he falls.

Drew says, Danny needs Jason, but Nina says, this might be Drew’s last chance. Drew says, Jason’s not a problem, but Nina says, he’s going to be. Drew says, Sam asked him and Jason to put the kids first. It’s the last thing she asked of him and he’s not going to let her down.

TJ tells Molly that he’s sorry he forgot, especially this year. He didn’t forget. It’s actually at the apartment. She says, it’s fine. She’s fine. He says, if she’s ever not, he’s here, whatever she needs. She says she loves him. She doesn’t always say it, but she should. He says he loves her, and she says, him being here is all she needs. Kristina walks in as they’re hugging, and Alexis also comes in.

Jack says, the WSB’s goals depend on the situation. Part of this situation will help the refugees. Lucky asks, what’s the other part? and Jack says he has an inside track about a political group on the rise who has found their footing. Lucky’s and the WSB’s causes may be very much aligned. Lucky says, it sounds too good to be true, and you know what they say, and Jack says he can get Lucky on a flight within the next 24 hours. Elizabeth walks in.

Kai says he’ll make the best partner. He memorized the PCU playbook in six hours. Trina asks if he thinks he can handle Art History and QB1, and he says he doesn’t quit – ever. The next game is at home. Why doesn’t she bring Josslyn and see for herself? He never gives up. She says, Josslyn and her new boyfriend love football, but it’s not her thing, and he says, maybe she just has to give it a chance. She smiles.

Jack tells Lucky that he has another matter to attend to. Call him with his decision. He leaves, and Elizabeth says she’s picking up cookies for the reception after the funeral. Who’s that guy? Lucky says, the Port Charles WSB Station Chief Brennan. Brennan offered him a job in his old neck of the woods. She says, Africa? and he says, the same region. She says, so he’s just going to leave again.

Nina says she’s done. Hopefully, no one will know Jason laid a hand on Drew. He thanks her and Rocco watches from outside the door.

Alexis says, it’s time, and the remaining Davis girls join hands, then hug.

Dante asks what Cody thinks, and Cody says, perfect. Sam looks happy. Dante puts the photo in the window of a memory box, and we see a smiling Sam.

Danny leaves Scout’s picture on Sam’s casket and sees Lucas. He says, Lucas needs to leave. He’s not allowed to be here. Lucas was the one who let his mother die. Lucas backs out of the church and leaves.

Tomorrow, Sam’s funeral; Ava asks Lucas what his reason is for not being at the church; and it looks like Lulu will be waking up soon.

🧼 Not Missing a Beat…

Sam went out the door, and now Lulu’s coming in.

Below Deck Sailing Yacht

Daisy tells Cloyce that the meals should be more elaborate, like the most beautiful plate they’ve ever seen. In Cloyce’s interview, he says, to have someone have a glimmer of confusion about his skills is new for him and they’re wrong. He tells Daisy, hopefully, he’ll keep getting better.

One of the guests says she thinks the juice is fresh squeezed, and another says she thinks she saw it come out of a box, but it’s cute they think that. We see Danni squeezing the life out of some oranges. It’s time for the guests’ departure and co-primary Andrew says, it was great. He relaxed. Co-primary and Andrew’s wife Cecilia says she got to sit on a trampoline float and have cocktails fed to her. Andrew thanks them, and Cecilia says she misses them already. She hands Captain Glenn an envelope, and the guests leave. Captain Glenn blows the horn, and after some cleaning is done, we move on to the tip meeting. The captain says, another charter in the can, done, dusted. He loves the standard they’re reaching, but keep pushing. He tells Gary that the docking was perfect, and Daisy’s team is looking like a well-oiled machine, but Cloyce had a little trouble. He wants Cloyce to focus on prepping better and wants him to think outside the box. He likes their high standards, but wants to keep moving up, and Cloyce says, always leveling up. In Cloyce’s interview, he says he doesn’t see himself as ego driven, but Daisy’s constructive criticism is ruining his day. He prefers not to be in this situation. The tip is $22K USD or 2105 euros each. Captain Glenn says, the next charter is tomorrow, so it’s a school night. They have champagne, then do some cleaning.

Gary says he’s excited to party, and Daisy says, there’s always been tension between them. He says, that’s not good, and Captain Glenn calls for the preference sheet meeting. The captain says, it’s charter five. They’re halfway there, the hump charter. The primaries are Sherry and Phillip, who are coming with their daughters, their daughters’ best friends, and Sherry’s gay best friend and stylist Brandon. They want a family vacation and are celebrating daughter Alana’s sweet 16th birthday. In Daisy’s interview, she says, for her 16th birthday, the went to a restaurant and she had alcohol. She thinks her friend made out with a waiter in the bathroom. Gary says, they want to use all the water toys, and Daisy reads that they want a formal white glove service dinner for Alana’s birthday. The captain tells Cloyce to go above and beyond, and Daisy says, some of the adults want to go to the night clubs. Captain Glenn thinks this will be a good group.

Emma thinks everybody hates her, but Daisy tells her not to let her insecurity push her out. Gary thinks it’s going to be a good night tonight, and I love Diana’s black babydoll dress. At the restaurant, Danni flirts with Keith, and in his interview, he says, what’s with Danni? Work is not feeling fun. He’s not too keen on her because of Gary, and it’s not banter anymore. It’s becoming something weird. Cloyce leaves the table to work on his menus. When he comes back, he says he knows he’s only here because he continues to perform on some base level, and in Daisy’s interview, she says, Cloyce has taken her feedback and is putting the effort in, but dude, put those f***ing sheets away.

On the way back to the boat, Gary tells Daisy that he’s a little drunk, and she says she’s hammered. When they get back, Cloyce decides to make squid ravioli. Danni and Keith sit in lounge chairs on deck, and Keith says, she had her chance. She says, with what? and he says him. If she hadn’t hooked up with Gary… She says, nothing is going on. It was just a whoopsie. He says he doesn’t want to be involved in a triangular relationship, and in Danni’s interview, she says she hates rejection, but she wouldn’t have kissed Gary if Keith hadn’t taken this long. Her approach is to move on to the next one like it never happened. He’s like a child. She’s never met boys so emotionally dependent in her life. Cloyce thinks his raviolis look pretty legit.

Igy Marina. The crew wakes up hung over, and Gary says, f*** my life. Emma says she feels like a Barbie doll with the hair cut off and limbs ripped off by a troubled child. Gary asks, what’s hanging Keith up with Danni? and Keith says, if she hadn’t hooked up with Gary… but Gary says, it wasn’t a hook up. Danni tells Daisy and Diana about Keith saying he didn’t want to get involved in a love triangle, and her telling him that there’s no triangle to get involved in. Daisy asks if Danni isn’t interested in Keith, and Danni says she was, but the ick is him being so insecure and weird. Daisy says, she didn’t kiss just anyone. Gary is Keith’s roommate and his boss. In Danni’s interview, she says she doesn’t like Daisy’s commentary. Butt the f*** out. Gary tells the deckhands that he’s having tender driving practice, and out on the water, he tells Emma that it’s like a car. He shows her how to go in reverse, and in Emma’s interview, she says she doesn’t normally perform well under pressure. All eyes are on her and it’s throwing her for a loop. As he scrambles eggs, Cloyce says, Operation Fuego is in full effect. Whatever that means. Gary asks Captain Glenn how you teach initiative. Emma doesn’t get the urgency. The captain says, her lack of experience is impacting the team, and in Gary’s interview, he says, Emma is an excuse maker when it comes to work. We flash back to her making excuses again and again, and Captain Glenn says he wants to give her the opportunity to prove she wants to learn or he has to find someone who wants to be here. If there isn’t a massive improvement, he’ll have to look for somebody else.

Daisy says, the rooms look great, and Cloyce says, let’s do it. Gary says, charter number five, here we go. The guests look like they belong to a polo club, and Glenn welcomes them. He says, they have a lot of fun stuff planned, and Daisy gives the tour. Glenn tells Danni that his policy is, no underage drinking, and she says, two of them didn’t take any. She tells Diana that she’s just doing her job. She doesn’t want to say anything since Daisy doesn’t give a sh*t. Co-primary Phillip watches Glenn drive the boat, and co-primary and wife Sherry says she wants to feel the full effect of sailing. Daisy asks Cloyce if he wants to talk through the menu, and in Cloyce’s interview, he says, on his 16th birthday, he was the guest chef at a culinary festival in Mexico. After he cooked, he did a model walk and took a photo with 30 supermodels in bikinis. We see the photo, and he says he wants to make Alana’s birthday just as special, and giggles. The only man allowed to giggle is Anderson Cooper, so no. The sails go up, and things start falling and rolling and crashing.

Sherry tells Phillip that she has four wardrobe changes, and she gives Daisy some tchotchkes for the dinner. She asks if they can have it inside, and Daisy says, sure. Daisy tells Cloyce that they want everything fancy. Captain Glenn tells Emma to keep her eye on the mizzen, and she asks Davide to go through it with her. In the captain’s interview, he says he knows she’s done it before. When you put in the effort to train someone, you’ve got to see results immediately. He needs someone who picks up quickly and Emma’s not picking it up. The guests go swimming and use the water toys. Emma stands around. Gary asks Emma if she’s happy to be here. He wants to be honest, and he sees a lack of urgency. She always seems to be waiting and watching. We flash back to poor Keith huffing and puffing as Emma watches. Gary says, he was putting the shower up and handing out towels and she’s just standing there. She says she thought the guests could see the shower, and Gary says, when he asks her to do something, she says she can’t do it, then goes to get coffee. She says she doesn’t drink coffee – the semantics of which would infuriate me – and he says, tea, whatever. She seems like she doesn’t want to be here. She says, it’s unfair. She’s gotten no feedback until now. She works hard to improve, but all they see is a snapshot. Gary says, what he notices is the team picking up the slack. He’s telling her now so she can improve with her initiative and urgency. While walking away, she says, this is absolute bullsh*t.

Emma says, he can suck a d*ck. Gary tells Glenn that Emma thinks he’s being unfair and doesn’t know where this is coming from. Emma tells Daisy that Gary told her the others are carrying too much of her weight and asked if she wants to be here. He should have come to her sooner. Daisy says she thinks Gary doesn’t like confrontation, and in her interview, she says empathizes with Emma, but Gary needs self-motivators. She feels Emma lacks that and she’s getting in her own head. Emma says she can’t trust them as far as she could throw them, and Daisy says, prove them wrong. Cloyce blowtorches something in the galley and Danni inhales helium while setting up for the party. In Diana’s interview, she says she thought they’d be on the same side. The priority is to have everything done: the service, décor, cocktails. It all needs to be ready and it’s not the time for having fun. It’s annoying.

The guests are all impressed, and Sherry says, they’re so creative. They sit down, and Sherry wants to impart words of wisdom to Alana on her birthday. It’s always better to take the high road, enjoy life as it comes, and drop the mic. Alana thanks her for her wise words and Sherry says she needs tequila. Cloyce presents a dish that changes color when the lemon is squeezed on it, and in Captain Glenn’s interview, he says he’s pleased with Cloyce’s extra effort. I’m definitely impressed. The captain tells Gary that the guests are leaving at midnight for the clubs, and Gary says he’ll have Keith do the pick-ups. Sherry takes ten thousand pictures of her food, and Cloyce comes up with the ravioli. I expect it to be a dud, since he made it when he was drunk, but Sherry is wowed by it. Cloyce also managed to make a real cake this time, and in her interview, Daisy says she knew he had it in him. That’s what he’s supposed to be doing. Now if he can keep it up for the rest of the season, they’ll be on to the home stretch. The crew sings Happy Birthday. The cake isn’t that impressive, but it’s a lot better than the mess he served for the last birthday.

On the way to the tender, Sherry falls and laughs. Seriously though, falling down drunk before you even get to the club isn’t really funny. Keith drives five of the guests to shore where someone meets them with a flashlight on the beach.

Back on the boat in the hot tub, the birthday girl and her friends say blah-blah-blah teenager stuff and inhale helium. Alana hopes they come back in good spirits. Her dad’s not a big partier. At 2:10, Keith leaves to pick up the guests after texting Gary. On deck, Gary hears something and runs to the bow. He yells for Danni to get Captain Glenn, and Danni runs to the captain’s cabin, waking him up. She says, Gary told her to get him. A boat is too close. Gary yells for her to get Emma too. The boat is getting closer. He runs with the fenders to the bow, and yells, hello! He whistles, and Danni tells Emma that there’s a boat too close in front. Gary says, that’s close.

🤡 Getting Around To It…

I finally watched It Chapter Two, mostly because it’s leaving Netflix at the end of the month. It’s been a minute since I saw the first part, but it’s not like I’m unfamiliar with the story. While I’m a big fan of Tim Curry, Bill Skarsgård was magnificent as Pennywise, and the rest of the cast was just as brilliant. The special effects were jaw dropping and the writing, well it is Stephen King. I’ll even forgive Ben and Bev’s trip to the cornfield near the end.

🐦‍⬛ Welcome To the Fromily…

All kinds of spoilers.

While my favorite From blogger/vlogger Anthony Whyte had nothing in print yet, there was this. You can also find his recap on YouTube. I always watch it immediately after watching the episode. I know I’m going to go through withdrawal when the season ends, wandering around the house on Sunday afternoons eating string cheese…

🐶 Going To the Dogs…

LVP, Trixie Mattel, and a whole lotta dogs. I can’t imagine anything better.

💨 A Delightful Menace In the Air…

Readership seems to have gone down in the past year, and I have a lot of projects on my plate, so there are changes afoot. Perhaps shorter recaps or perhaps fewer days, but we’ll always have Friday. If you’re still reading, let me know your thoughts. Until next time, stay safe, stay not serving canned cranberry sauce, and stay never using the excuse that you ran into a door when you’ve really been in a fight.

General Hospital

Laura tells Anna that she doesn’t think she’s going to be able to draw a full breath until she knows Lulu’s transplant is a success. Anna takes Laura’s hand.

Alexis says, it’s nice of Portia to let her and Diane use her conference room. A work lunch was a very good idea. Diane asks if it’s helping keep Alexis’s mind off of Sam’s surgery, and Alexis says, she’s achieved a balance between work and worry. Diane says, speaking of work, she has a conflict with the Blevens hearing the second week of November. She can ask for a postponement or… Alexis says she’ll cover for her. Sam will be out of the hospital by then. Diane asks if she’s sure she’ll want to because Ava’s trial is starting right around then, and she’ll want to be with the girls. Alexis says, even though Molly may no longer be speaking to her.

Heather says, Steven Lars, and he says, in the flesh. He asks how Elizabeth is, and Elizabeth says, good to see him. What is he doing here? Heather says, her son came back to her, and hugs him.

Sasha knocks at Robert’s office door, and he says, welcome. She says, he told her on the phone that the paternity test results are in, and he says he’s got them right here. She says, good. Now they’ll know for sure Holly was lying and he’s not her father. He says, we’ll see. He didn’t open it. He didn’t want her to think it had been tampered with. She thanks him and takes the envelope. She says, before they do, she just wants him to know she’s sure he’s probably a great dad… He says, it’s not about him, and she opens the envelope and looks at the paper. He asks what it says,

Cody goes into the stables, and Holly comes down the stairs. She says, hello, Cody, and he says, hello. What was she doing up there? She says, looking for him, and he says, and who is she? She says, Holly Sutton. She thought it was time they met.

Alexis says, so Sam came over to tell all of them that she’s going to be Lulu’s donor, and Molly and Kristina couldn’t stop going after each other. Diane says, one would think, given the circumstances, they could just set their differences aside, and Alexis says, one would think, yes. Not only that, they had the gall to blame her and Sam for taking sides. Sam had enough of it and left. Diane says, good for her, and Alexis says, honestly, it’s toxic. And Ric is just making it a thousand times worse. She never thought that man could surprise her, but his defending Ava when Ava is the reason her daughter lost her baby. Apparently, he doesn’t care about Molly. Diane says, let’s face it. That’s just a new low in the history of lows. Alexis says, it’s an equal opportunity disaster, and Diane asks if she’d care to be more specific. Alexis says, he won the appeal. Heather Webber’s sentence has been vacated. Diane says, vacated? Heather Webber? The woman whose body count nearly included her? That Heather Webber? She’s getting out of prison? Alexis says, today.

Heather says she honestly wondered if she’d ever see Steven again, but here he is… both of them, her family. She just can’t even believe how blessed her life is. Steven says, how about a hug for her big bro, and Elizabeth says she was trying. He was busy. They hug and Heather says she just can’t get over the coincidence. Steven says, what coincidence? and Heather says, them getting out of prison at the same time. He says, actually, he’s been out for a few months, and Heather says, oh. That’s wonderful. She wishes he’d let her know he was out… He says, they haven’t talked in years, and she says she guesses they haven’t, but here he is now. He says, they have a lot to talk about, but not here. She says she can’t even wait to get Pentenville behind her, so she knows exactly where they should go. She takes his hand and says, come on. She’ll show him. They walk off and Elizabeth doesn’t look thrilled.

Sasha tells Robert that it says he’s her father, and he says he thought it would. She says, her mother must have altered the test results, but he says, the test was done at a secure WSB lab. Even Holly couldn’t get in. Sasha says, she must have gotten somebody else to do it, and he says, if it makes her feel any better, they can do another test, but he’s convinced Holly is telling the truth for once. She’s his daughter.

Laura says she wants to thank Anna again for going all the way to Africa and putting her life on the line, and Anna says she was happy to do it. How is Lucky doing? Laura says, okay, and Anna says, the instant she told him about Lulu, he was determined to be her donor. Laura says, he was really upset to find out he couldn’t do it. He actually blamed himself. Anna says she guesses he was very relieved then that Sam stepped in, and Laura says, they all are. Anna says she was impressed with Lucky. He kept a cool head in a crisis. Laura says, he’s a Spencer, and Anna says, he is. He proved it too. He risked his life to rescue his friend Isaiah. Laura says, and because he did that, Dr. Gannon is here to save Lulu.

Sasha sits down and says she grew up thinking her father was dead. Holly told her that he was dead. He says, everybody thought the same thing at the time. Definitely, she wasn’t lying. Sasha says, but when she found out he was alive, Holly never told her the truth, and he says, she had her reasons. Maybe not good ones, but they were hers. She says, so he’s her father, and he says, better late than never. She says, which means she and Cody are first cousins, and he says, yes, they are. He’s sorry.

Cody asks if Holly was up in his room, and she says she poked her head in to see if he was home. He asks why she was looking for him, and she says, they have something in common, the Ice Princess necklace. He asks what she knows about the necklace, and she says, everything. She’s the one who stole it.

At the hospital, Terry asks Elizabeth how it went with Heather. Any problems picking her up from Pentenville? Elizabeth says, the opposite. Her brother showed up. Terry says, oh my God, that’s… Elizabeth says, unexpected? Shocking? The last thing she thought would happen? Terry says, all of the above. So where are they? Elizabeth says, Heather wanted to go to Bobbie’s for… They both say, a BLT, and Elizabeth says, and Steven wanted to talk to her alone.

Heather and Steven walk into Bobbie’s, and Heather tells the server, mademoiselle, two of your finest BLTs, s’il vous plait. They sit down and Heather says, let her look at him. He is so handsome, and she’s so happy he’s finally home. He says he doesn’t consider Port Charles his home anymore, and she says, a lot’s changed since he’s been here, but pretty soon he’ll remember everything he loves about Port Charles. He says, not going to happen, and she says she knows how disorienting it can be after years behind bars, but it’s a lot easier when they let you out then when you escape. He didn’t escape, did he? He says, no, and she says, they have so much to catch up on. She knows Elizabeth is going to put them up. Only for a short time, because soon, she’s going to be rolling in dough. They can live in the fanciest part of town. She can get them a big house with a beautiful yard, a little swing set for Ace. He says, that’s not… and she asks if he’s ever met Ace. His nephew is the cutest little thing he’s ever seen. He says he can’t live in Port Charles. He has a job in Arizona. She says, so he’s not staying? and he says, no. Neither is she.

Laura says, Anna has done so much already, she hates to ask her to do anything else, but Anna says, it’s fine. Ask away. Cyrus approaches them and says, sister. Laura says, hello, Cyrus, and he says he knew he’d find her here. She says, where else would she be? He tells Anna, good afternoon, and she says, Mr. Renault. He asks if he should sit with them while they wait, but Laura says, actually, they were right in the middle of something. He says, of course (🍷), but he would like to say a prayer for Lulu… if she doesn’t mind. Laura says, prayers are always welcome.

On the phone, Alexis says, Kristina is coming to the hospital to see Sam after the surgery, right?… Yes. Of course (🍷) Sam wants to see her. She wants to see her and Molly. Just be there, okay? Diane asks if Kristina is okay, and Alexis says, she feels bad after what happened with Sam. And she ran into Ric and Ava at the Port Charles Grill, and Kristina being Kristina… Diane finishes, she had to say something, and Alexis says, after making sure she was going to be there, Ric baited Kristina into making a scene. Now they have a bunch of neutral witness who can testify they saw Kristina being aggressive and lose control. Diane says, yeah, now they do, and Alexis says, he’s going to be merciless with her on the stand, even knowing she just almost died and lost a baby. Diane says, don’t forget, the prosecution is going to do everything in its power to protect her. And if she knows Alexis – and she does – she’s going to make sure Kristina is well-prepared. Alexis says she plans to. Enough about my misery. Let’s talk about yours. Diane asks if she means her misery that Heather Webber is getting out of prison today, but Alexis says, no. Holly Sutton is back in town. How is she feeling about that?

Cody says, Holly stole the necklace, and Holly says she did. He says, as he recalls, the police tracked the thief to a cabin, and she says, they did. He says, there was a huge, fiery explosion, and she says, oh yes, there was. He tells her, the WSB said the necklace was destroyed and the thief severely burned. She looks good for a crispy critter. She says, that’s kind of him to say, and he says he’s a charmer. She says, as she understands, he claimed to be the rightful owner of that necklace because he’s Dominique and Leopold Taub’s son. He says he was looking for a big payday. It didn’t work out. She says, he’s probably better off. Those diamonds were far more trouble than they were worth, and they were worth quite a bit. He says, were, so they are gone, and she says, who knows? He says, she might, and she says she wishes. But in regard to his misfortune, that was then, this is now. He says, so what is this? and she says, what if she can make his dreams come true?

Sasha gets up and tells Robert, this can’t be happening. She always wanted a dad. She spent her whole life wishing for one and now that she has one, she can’t be happy because it’s costing her Cody. She starts to cry and he says he understands. She says she’s so sorry. Trust her. If things were different, she’d be jumping for joy. She can’t figure out how she feels being face to face with her father. He says, for what it’s worth (🍷), he’s feeling pretty lucky, and she laughs. She says, look her up online and see how he feels, and he says he’s aware of the troubles she’s had over the years. He’d like to get to know her, but that’s up to her. She thanks him and says, he’s been very kind. She has to go. She picks up her stuff and leaves.

Cyrus says, Father, show Lulu Your mercy and give her strength so she may rejoin those who love her. Amen. Laura says, amen, and he thanks her for indulging him. He’ll leave her to her vigil. And if she needs anything… She says she knows how to reach him, but no more surprise visits. The next time he’d like to see Lulu, she wants him to call her first. He says, of course (🍷), and leaves. Anna returns with coffee and asks if Laura is all right. Laura says she’s okay and thanks Anna. Anna says that she’s relieved to see that she doesn’t trust Cyrus all that much, and Laura says she honestly doesn’t know what to make of her brother. But she also doesn’t have any illusions about him. Anna says she’s glad to hear that. Anyway, Laura wanted to ask her something. Laura says she just wanted to know whether or not Anna has heard from Valentin, and Anna says she hasn’t. Laura says, it’s not right that Charlotte isn’t here, and Anna says, she should be here.

Terry says, if Steven hasn’t been in touch with his mother, why did he show up today? and Elizabeth says, maybe he heard she was being released. They really didn’t get a chance to talk. Heather dominated the conversation. Terry says, knowing Heather, she’s not surprised. Is he staying? Elizabeth says she doubts it. He got a job in Sedona, and she thinks he likes it there. Terry says, it’s probably for the best, and Elizabeth says, even so, seeing him today, she got the feeling he was here to fix things. Terry says she’s not sure anyone can fix Heather, and Elizabeth says, although having him here means she doesn’t have to deal with Heather on her own. Terry says, how about when he leaves? and Elizabeth says she doesn’t know. Now that she’s free, who knows what she’ll do next?

Steven says he and Heather are going to make a new start in Sedona. He’s sure she can find a job, at least until her settlement comes in. She says she doesn’t want to go to Sedona. She hates turquoise jewelry. Why can’t he stay here? He says he told her, he has a job, but she says, he could get a job here. He’s a brilliant doctor. GH would be happy to take him back. He says he doesn’t live here anymore, and he loves his new job, and she says she thinks she knows what this is about. He’s still hung up on Olivia. He says he won’t talk about Olivia with her. That subject is off limits. Don’t bring her up again and don’t go near her ever. She says, if he’s that upset about it still, why is he here? Why does he want her to come live with him in Arizona? He says, they both need to make amends and they’re family. Families stick together. She puts her hand on his and says, yeah, they do. But that’s exactly why she can’t go with him. Part of her family is still here. She would love nothing more than to make up the time that they didn’t have together. She loves him, but she can’t leave Ace.

On the phone in her office, Nina says she wants the magazine to have a four-page tutorial on how to achieve the makeup look that’s on the runways during Fashion Week. And if Petra can emphasize Deception, that would be a big favor. Sasha walks in, and Nina says she’s going to need to call Petra back. She asks Sasha, what is it? and Sasha says she’s been lying to Nina for a long time and it’s big. Nina says, okay. About what? Sasha says she told Nina that her mother was dead, but the truth is, Sasha only wished she was. She’s alive and well. Nina says, okay, and Sasha says, Nina doesn’t hate her? Nina says, if she can get past Sasha lying about being her daughter, she can get past this, and Sasha thanks her. Nina asks why she’s confessing all of this now, and Sasha says, because her mother is back in her life. She’s in Port Charles, and her name is Holly Sutton.

Holly says she can’t believe Cody is satisfied as the Quartermaine stableboy. Tracy alone is reason enough to want out of this place. He says, all the Quartermaines have been good to him, but she says, it’s not exactly the life the Ice Princess would have given him, is it? He says, dreams change. He found a great family he didn’t even know he had, and he’s with an amazing woman, who for some reason, thinks he’s a good guy. She says, that sounds wonderful, but she knows a man in Westchester, a very rich man with a little gambling problem, who wouldn’t blink at losing a few million dollars. She’s asked around, and he has a certain reputation as a poker player. He says, and she doesn’t play, but she says, it’s a two-person job. He says, risk? and she says, minimal. Besides, anyone who’s played for Selina Wu can handle himself. 70/30 split. He says, 50/50, and she says, 65/35. Final offer. He asks, why me? and she says, because she recognizes a kindred spirit and thinks they’d make a good team. This mark is a sure thing. What does he say?

Laura tells Anna, it’s not just that Charlotte isn’t with her mother when she should be. It’s not good for her to live her life on the run. And the more she thinks about it, the more angry she is with Valentin that he took her.

Diane tells Alexis, she’s more than aware of Holly’s return. Fortunately, Robert assured her that any romantic feelings he may have had for Holly are well in the past. Alexis says, then she’s happy for Diane, and Diane says she knows what Alexis is thinking. Alexis says she’s not thinking anything, and Diane says, then don’t ever play poker. Alexis says, okay, then what is she thinking? and Diane says, she’s thinking that once upon a time, Robert and Holly were the great loves of each other’s lives. Alexis says, that’s not a secret, and Diane says, it’s also well in the past. Gone are the days when Robert was an international spy and Holly was a globe-trotting con artist. Now Robert is the District Attorney in a town where he’s made a life for himself. And Holly is a… Alexis says, a globe-trotting con artist, and Diane says, exactly. More importantly – most importantly – is how Robert feels about her. The two of them will be going strong long after Holly has left for her next con.

Cody tells Holly, that is tempting, but unfortunately, her info is a little out of date. He doesn’t play cards anymore. She says, in her experience, once a gambler… He says, not in his case. He’s found better ways to spend his time, and he has an amazing woman that makes everything better. So he appreciates the offer, but he’s got everything here he needs. She says, that’s a lovely fairytale, but it would be a shame if this – she gestures, indicating the stables – is where his story ended. He says, she doesn’t like happy endings? and she says she’s partial to cliffhangers (ha-ha-ha!). He says, cliffs aren’t exactly his thing anymore. More importantly, the guy that he used to be isn’t the man he wants to be anymore. He used to spend all his time looking for the next score, and when he finally gave that up, he actually found a life that made him happy. She thinks that’s a line, doesn’t she? She says she’s curious. What brought on this revelation? He says, after that whole thing with the necklace went belly up, he got news that changed his life.

Heather tells Steven that ever since Ace was a little boy, she dreamed of watching her grandson grow up. She wants to be there for all his milestones, like she couldn’t be there for him. Taking his picture on his first day of school; helping him ride his bike. She wants to be the person he comes to when he has his first crush. Steven says, those things are a few years off. Maybe by then… She says, maybe by then what? She’ll be better? The judge said she’s free. She wasn’t responsible for those actions. He says, she did commit those actions. She killed those people. She puts her head in her hands, and he asks if she doesn’t want to leave her past behind and focus on who she is now and not who she was. She says, yeah. When he puts it that way, it makes sense. He says he knows they both did very different things, but people here don’t trust him anymore. That’s why he moved to Arizona and why he wants her to move with him. They can make a new life there, without hurting anyone and without getting hurt themselves. She says, he’d really stay with her? and he says, yes. It would be just her and him. She smiles and says, okay. She’ll go with him. There are some things she should do here first, though. He says, okay.

Nina says, just so she has this straight, Sasha was raised by her grandmother because her mother Holly left Sasha with her. Sasha says, she was a con artist. She knows how hypocritical that is. Nina asks if she’s still conning people, but Sasha says, no, and Nina says, then it’s not hypocritical. Sasha says, when she was a kid, the only time she saw her mother was when her mother wanted to involve her in a scheme. Nina asks how long it’s been since she talked to Holly, and Sasha says, years. Holly reached out a few times, but she never responded. She asks if Nina thinks that was unfair of her, and Nina says, given her history, she just has a hard time not having empathy for a mother who’s estranged from her daughter. But that’s just her. No two moms are the same. Sasha says, her mom only knows how to use people. She does not deserve Nina’s empathy.

Anna says, of course (🍷) Valentin couldn’t have possibly known something like this would happen with Lulu, and Laura says, Valentin didn’t think about anything but himself. She believes he loves Charlotte, but this is so selfish. Anna says, he does know how much Charlotte means to Laura, and this decision he made to leave was made very quickly. Laura says, right, but she knows how resourceful he is. Why couldn’t he get her some kind of message to let her know Charlotte is okay? Anna says, if he truly knew the ramifications of his actions, he might have made a different choice, and Laura laughs and says, maybe. Anna promises Laura that she’ll find Valentin, and she’ll bring Charlotte back to her family.

Steven comes into the hospital with Heather and sees Elizabeth. He says, lookin’ good, Head Nurse Baldwin. She says, welcome back to General Hospital. She still can’t believe he’s here. He says he didn’t know what to expect, seeing this place again, and Elizabeth says her shift is almost over. They can go someplace else. Steven says, no. He’s all right. There’s just a lot of memories. Heather says, they’re not going to be staying long. Actually, they have some exciting news. Elizabeth says, okay… What’s the news? Heather says she doesn’t want Elizabeth to take this personally, because Elizabeth has been so very kind to her, but she actually won’t be staying with Elizabeth after all. Elizabeth covers her mouth to hide her smile, and Heather says, her son is taking her with him to Sedona. She hopes Elizabeth isn’t too upset. They’re just here to say goodbye.

Diane says, she still has a few hours left, and Alexis says she knows. She knows the surgery is routine, but she’s a mother, and surgery is surgery. Diane says, and waiting is always the hardest part, and Alexis suggests they talk about something else. Has she seen Holly yet? Diane says, you are so mean (and I literally lol). Yes, she’s seen Holly. She saw Holly with Sonny. Alexis says she didn’t know Sonny knew Holly. Maybe through Luke or something. Sonny and Holly, that’s weird. Diane says she just hopes Sonny has the good sense to say no to whatever scheme Holly is running. Alexis tells her not to hold her breath. She heard that men have a hard time saying no to Holly Sutton… Men that don’t know her in the same way Robert… Diane says, it’s fine. She trusts Robert, but she’s not stupid. She’s well aware of Holly’s powers of persuasion.

Cody tells Holly that he found out Leopold Taub wasn’t his actual father. He dodged a bullet on that one. He’s a real rotten son of a bitch. Whereas his real dad is a great guy. Does she know Mac Scorpio? She says she does know Mac. The Scorpios are like family to her. He says, then she knows that Mac is kind of a righteous dude. She laughs and says, yes, he is. Cody says he’s already disappointed Mac one too many times. The last thing he wants to do is do it again. He’s got his job, he’s got his family, and he’s got a woman he does not deserve, but he’s going to try and live up to all of it. So while he appreciates the offer, it’s a hard pass.

Nina says, Robert Scorpio? and Sasha says, they’ve been living in the same town for six years and Holly waited until now to tell her that Robert is her father. Nina says, why now? and Sasha says, because of Cody. Nina says, Cody is Mac Scorpio’s son… which makes him… Sasha says, her first cousin, and Nina says she’s so sorry. Sasha says she didn’t want to believe it when Holly first told her, but the DNA test proved it. She can’t help but wonder if this is karmic payback for her pretending to be Nina’s daughter. Nina says, come on. She’s made amends for what she did, and ever since then, she’s been a wonderful friend. Sasha says, when she wasn’t an absolute mess, and Nina says she’s done worse than Sasha, and she’s changed. And Sasha has changed. Maybe their friendship is karma’s way of rewarding them for being better people. Sasha says she never thought of it that way. She wants to think that she’s changed. Nina says, she has changed, and takes Sasha’s hands. She says, why don’t they talk about the real reason Sasha is here? Sasha says she’s here to tell Nina the truth about her mother, and Nina says, she’s also avoiding telling Cody that they can’t be together. Sasha asks how she can tell him. It’s so awful. Nina says she knows it is. It’s really hard, but she has to do it. Putting it off is just going to make it harder.

Anna goes into the conference room and thanks Alexis for waiting. Alexis says, it sounded important, and Anna says, it is. Has Valentin contacted her? Alexis says, no. Why? Anna says she’s trying to find him and Laura needs to let Charlotte know what’s going on with her mother. Alexis says she’d think Anna of all people would know where he was, but Anna says she’s afraid she doesn’t. Alexis says she’ll check the Cassadine holdings and see if there’s something Anna hasn’t checked, and Anna says, that would be amazing. Thank you. Alexis says she’ll do it as soon as she can. She thinks Laura is right. It’s time for Charlotte to come home.

There’s a knock at Robert’s office door, and Diane walks in. She asks, how is her favorite District Attorney? and he says he feels like he just got kicked in the gut by a roo. She says, why? What happened? He says he got some news. Actually, amazing news. Diane says, let’s hear it, and he says he’s got another daughter. She says, another daughter? Has he met this foundling? He says, yes, and so has she, and Diane says she’s intrigued. Who is it? He says, Sasha Corbin, and her mouth drops open. He says he knows. He’s surprised too. She says, that’s a word for it. Did Sasha know? He says, she thought her father was dead. Her mother just recently said, that is not the case. Diane asks, who’s her mother? and he says, Holly. Diane throws her hand up and says, yeah.

Holly tells Cody that he’s walking away from more than a million dollars. She hopes this woman of his is worth it. He says, she’s worth everything. Sasha is the best thing that’s ever happened to him. Holly looks pained, and he asks, what’s wrong? Sasha walks in and asks what the hell Holly is doing here. Holly says, sweetheart… and Sasha says, no. Not one word. Now get out. Cody says, Sash… but Holly says, it’s fine. She’ll go. Sasha yells, out! and Holly leaves. Cody says, so Sasha clearly knows her, and Sasha says she knows her all right. He says, fill me in. What did she do to Sasha for Sasha to tear into her like that? Sasha says, that woman is her mother, and something is very, very wrong.

Heather tells Elizabeth that Steven helped her to see that it wouldn’t be right for her to stay in Port Charles. Not for her or the people that she hurt. Elizabeth says she thinks that’s wise, but Heather says, Port Charles is the only place she’s ever known as home. It’s going to be so hard to say goodbye. Laura comes out of the elevator, and Heather runs up to her. Heather says she’s so glad Laura is here.

On Monday, Dante asks if Steven thinks he’s actually going to get Heather to leave; Nina tells Drew that they have a major problem; Sonny says, if he’s going to help Holly, she has to make it worth his while; and Cody says he doesn’t want to be Sasha’s friend.

🎃 I’ve Got a Little List…

As promised, my list of good scares, and a few laughs, for Halloween. Trick ‘r Treat – an anthology of several stories tied together by mysterious figure Sam (see below). You will never look at a school bus the same way again; 13 Ghosts (2001) – a widower inherits a house that’s already inhabited. The amazing house alone is worth a look, but the ghosts are creepy AF (see below for their bios).; Quentin Tarantino’s Grindhouse – a drive-in movie double feature of Death Proof and Planet Terror, about a serial killer (remarkably played by Kurt Russell) and a zombie invasion respectively; Reeker – a better film than the unfortunate title would suggest. Basically, a road trip gone bad, but it kept me guessing until the end; Cabin in the Woods – a friend group takes a vacation in a cabin where there’s more than meets the eye. Not only is it funny, it has some of the best special effects I’ve ever seen. I’d read the book first and thought, there’s no way the final scene could be translated to film. I was wrong.; Dawn of the Dead (1978 and 2004) – both films are great in different ways, but both involve zombies invading a deserted mall. While the 2004 version is missing the statement on consumerism, it’s still an excellent film and I love Ving Rhames; John Carpenter’s They Live – the late Roddy Piper discovers subliminal messages and an alien invasion by using a pair of dark glasses. Creepy on more than one level.; and The Midnight Hour – an old TV movie, but my absolute Halloween favorite. Some high school students unleash the dead by reciting an ancient incantation in a graveyard. I have a bootleg DVD, since it’s been hard to find in the past, but it’s on YouTube now. Somewhat corny, but fun, with moments of great creepiness, and a little bit sad at the end, this one just screams Halloween to me.

What I Watched Today

(rambling, random thoughts, recaps, and the whole GH enchilada on Fridays)

General Hospital

On the phone at the gallery, Trina asks if Portia is sure she didn’t say anything to The Invader about her giving them an interview, because she’s not… Gio walks in, and she says she has to go. They’ll talk later. She says, he made it, and he says, she could have finished her call, but she says she didn’t want to deal with it anyway. She talked him up to Ava, but she can’t make any promises. He says, she got him a shot. That’s all he can hope for. Ava comes in, and Trina introduces her to Gio, and says, he’s the musician she told Ava about. Ava shakes his hand and says she’s sure Trina explained she needs somebody to do background music for their next opening. Trina said, Gio got a full ride to PCU’s music program, and he’s drafted to their summer concert series too, andAva says, a full ride. His parents must love that. He says, if he hadn’t earned the scholarship, his Uncle Sonny was going to pay his way.

In his office, Drew gets a call from Nina, but before he can answer (or decide if he’s going to), McConkey walks in. Drew turns off the call and says he wasn’t expecting the congressman. McConkey says, Drew came to his office without an appointment, and he thought he’d return the favor. So time to fish or cut bait. Is Drew going to run for his seat or not?

Alexis asks, what’s on Kristina’s mind? and Kristina says, all the warnings Alexis gave her about being Molly’s surrogate. Alexis says, she’ll have to be a little more specific, and Kristina says, there’s one thing they didn’t cover. What happens to the baby if Molly and TJ split up?

Elizabeth meets Chase at the café, and she says she hopes she didn’t keep him waiting. He says he just got there, and thanks her for agreeing to meet him. He got her message. He was about to knock on Finn’s door when she called. After talking to Finn, he had a good idea why she called. She asks, how bad was he?

Finn wakes up with a start, fully clothed and on the couch. Violet asks, what’s wrong? and I can feel Finn’s hangover.

Ava asks if Gio means Sonny Corinthos, and he says he does. Sonny’s not an actual relative, but he’s an honorary member of the Cerullo family, so Sonny is treating him like blood. She says, he’s very fortunate, and he says, no question. Uncle Sonny’s paid for his musical education, lessons, conservatory, his instrument… Ava says, he’s a very generous man. Why doesn’t Gio go ahead and play something? Gio says he’ll go tune up, and steps away. Trina says, full disclosure. She’s never actually heard him play, but Josslyn says he’s fantastic. Ava says she didn’t realize Josslyn was an expert in classical music, and Trina tells her not to feel obligated to use him if this is a bad idea. Gio comes back and says, any requests? Ava tells him, play something that puts people in the mood to buy some very expensive art, and he says he’s got her. He begins to play.

Alexis says, hold on a second. Where is all this coming from? Kristina says, Molly came over to her house and she was really upset. She was venting about all the issues she’s having right now with TJ. Alexis says, couples fight, and Kristina tells her, that’s exactly what Allie said, but not TJ and Molly. They don’t. Not until… this. She indicates her bump and says, the baby is changing everything. Alexis says, babies do change things. Things shift. Sometimes it’s stressful. Kristina says, according to Molly, they’re not communicating right now. They’ve been together since high school. You’d think by now the two of them would have figured out how to talk to each other. Alexis says, back up, and Kristina says she is backing up. She’s backing all the way up to when Molly insisted on a domestic partnership instead of a marriage. What if, in her heart of hearts, Molly always had this feeling that she and TJ might drift apart? Alexis says, that’s just pure speculation. She doesn’t know where this is coming from. They’re having trouble, a little conflict. That doesn’t foretell the end of their relationship. Kristina says she hopes it doesn’t, but she has to be prepared either way. She has to know what she’s going to do. Alexis says, what she wants to know is what Kristina wants her to do, and Kristina says she knows this puts Alexis in a sticky situation because she’s Molly’s mother, but she’s also her mother. All she’s asking Alexis to do is walk her through the possible consequences if Molly and TJ do split up. Alexis told her that the only two people who would have legal claim to custody of this baby would be her and TJ.

Finn guzzles some water, and Violet asks if he’s thirsty. He says he’s so thirsty. Does she remember how he’s always telling her how important it is to stay hydrated? She asks, how was his nap? and he says, it was good. He guesses kids who nap have the right idea, but she says, not her. She thinks naps are boring. She would rather anything else. (Just wait, kid. You’ll wish you took all those naps once you’re working a day job.) So now that he’s up, can they go? He says, okay. Go where? She says, he told her that they could go to the pool after his nap. She’s been waiting for him to wake up. She made them peanut butter on toast for a snack and asked him if they could go to the pool. But he said he was too tired and needed to digest the food first. Doesn’t he remember?

Chase tells Elizabeth that Finn was belligerent and combative. He alternated between guilt tripping Chase and insisting that nothing was wrong. He’s never seen Finn like this before. Elizabeth says, that escalated quickly. He may have felt that he could keep this from her, but last night, Jake saw him coming out of a bar. And in his words, with some random woman. Chase looks stunned, and she says she was really shocked too. At first, she thought, he’s just slipped up. He’s had a couple drinks. Maybe it’s not as bad as it sounds. Perhaps Jake was confused by this woman. Maybe she’s an old friend. So she went to Finn’s apartment, and it was exactly like Jake said. He picked up this woman in the bar and brought him back to his place. He didn’t even know her name. Chase says he’s so sorry. He did see a bottle and two glasses, but it didn’t register. She did nothing to deserve this. She says, he has nothing to apologize for. This is Finn’s illness, his responsibility. So she just came from her first Al-Anon meeting, probably not her last. It only reenforced what she already knew. She can’t save Finn and she can’t subject her children to what’s happening with him right now. He says, of course (🍷) not. He understands what she’s saying. She ended things with Finn, and he gets why. He drew a hard line with Finn too, but Finn’s his brother. He doesn’t have the option to end things. He’s got to figure out a way to reach Finn.

Drew tells McConkey that this is a very big decision for him, and he had to consult with family and friends. He needed to get their input. McConkey says, sure it is. But they’ll support Drew and back him up, no? Drew says he was looking for someone who wouldn’t support him, for reasons not to run. That the campaign would be relentless, and his chances were slim. McConkey asks if he found someone who would oblige him, and Drew says, that’s why he intended to drive up and see the congressman tomorrow, to tell him that he’d made a decision… He would be honored to run for McConkey’s seat. McConkey says, that’s a great decision and he’s glad to see Drew recognizes a golden opportunity when it falls in his lap. They shake hands.

Elizabeth asks Chase to please believe her when she says she hasn’t stopped caring about his brother, but she has seen him addicted before, when he was with her sister. She went toe to toe with him, and he refused to admit he was using. He was arrogant and confrontational. He lied to her face, and she saw that same style last night. Chase says he’s so sorry, but she tells him that she’s going to say this as many times as he needs to hear it. He is not responsible. She knows he wants to support his brother, but he can’t enable him. He says he won’t, but he won’t drop him either. He can’t. She says, addiction is tricky. She can’t help Finn, but she can help Chase. Finn’s sponsor left town about a year ago. She doesn’t think he ever got a new one because of how well he was doing, but there is someone he might talk to. He and Alexis are close. They work the program together. He says, that tracks, and she tells him, with all that being said, her biggest concern is her niece. Violet is a strong little girl, but she’s dealt with so much loss, with her mother and her grandfather. And while Finn is battling himself, they have to figure out where she’s going to go. He says he and Brook came up with a plan for Violet to come live with them at the Q mansion this summer for a few weeks, long enough for Finn to have an intervention, hopefully, but he wasn’t having it. She says, maybe he just needs a minute for it to soak in. Tell her their plan, and she’ll try to talk Finn through it. He asks if she thinks Finn will listen to her, and she says, there’s only one way to find out. What she does know is, Violet is going to need all the support she can get.

Finn says he thought Violet said school. He was wondering why she wanted to go to school in her swimsuit. She asks why she’d want to go to school in her swimsuit. And he told her that he wanted to see her somersault in the water. He says he does, but does she think maybe he could have a hug first? She hugs him, and he says he loves her so much. He’s sorry if he’s been a little sad lately. She says, about grandpa? and he says, yeah, about grandpa. How is she? She says she’s sad too, and he says he’s going to get cleaned up and they’re going straight to that pool. They’re going to stop being sad and have so much fun. He promises. They pinky swear, and Violet hugs him again.

McConkey says, there are very few things that matter more than good government, and it’s easy to lose sight of that. With all the noise, and the innuendo, and the competing echo chambers… There are a lot of charlatans and cheats in the House, and it’s important for people of integrity to step forward and do the right thing. Drew thanks him and says he looks forward to shaking things up in the halls of Congress. This district… hell, this country deserves the best he can give. McConkey says, it sounds a little bit like his I’m running speech. Does he have a good speech writer? Drew says, no. Any suggestions? McConkey says, use his own voice, but think also about changing his last name to Quartermaine. He can’t beat that for recognition early in the race. Drew says, as a matter of fact, he… Nina walks in and asks why Drew hasn’t called her back, then sees McConkey. She asks, what brings him to Aurora? and McConkey says, as if she didn’t know.

Ava tells Gio, that’s enough, and thanks him. He definitely has the job. She knows he’ll be the perfect enhancement to their opening. Why don’t they go in the back and talk numbers? He says he’s grateful for any opportunity to perform live, and follows her into the back. Trina gently touches his violin, when Josslyn comes in. She asks if Trina is ready to go. Three new apartment listings just dropped, but they’ve got to be fast or else they’ll lose out… Is she okay? Trina says, yeah. This is Gio’s. He just auditioned for Ava. Josslyn was right about him. Josslyn says, he’s really good, but Trina says, no. He’s more than good. The way he played, it was like a painting. Gio’s an artist.

Kristina tells Alexis that she remembers in the State of New York, the birth mother is legally the baby’s mother until she signs the rights away to the baby. So what she needs to know is, if TJ and Molly split up, would TJ have to share custody with her, since Molly has no legal claims to the baby? Alexis says, she’s so jumping to conclusions here. There are so many factors to consider. Kristina says she knows that, but she needs to know what she’s going to do to protect this child and keep it in their family. She knows there’s a surrogacy contract that TJ might try to invoke, but Alexis said that won’t hold up in court. Alexis wonders if Molly knows Kristina is here asking these questions, and Kristina says, no. Alexis says she’s not entirely unprepared for these questions, because bringing up these questions has been her worst nightmare since the two of them told her about the surrogacy. She cannot and will not take a position on this, because she cannot choose between her daughters. Don’t ask her to.

Trina tells Josslyn that she’s never been that into violin, but the way Gio played, it was like a secret voice, like if somehow the paintings on the wall started singing. She can see how violinists were like rock stars back in the day. And it’s so easy to access – Gio comes back – the greatest music in the world on the internet, but it’s nothing like seeing it live. Josslyn tries to get her attention, and Gio asks if Josslyn is here to look at art. Josslyn says, no. Actually, they’re looking for apartments. She and Trina are getting a place together. She looks at her phone and says, oh no. Assuming the can find a place. Two of the listings just got taken. Trina says, already? and Ava comes back. She says hello to Josslyn and tells Gio that she’ll be in touch. She tells the girls, good luck with that apartment hunt, and returns to the back. Gio says he happens to know about a great apartment and it’s not going to be listed. Trina asks, why not? and he says, it’s over the Quartermaines’ garage.

McConkey says, maybe they should ask Nina about the name thing or Drew could pitch his platform to her… if she hasn’t already heard it. Nina says she’s sorry. What’s going on? The platform? The name? Drew says he’s running for Congress. The congressman wants him to take his seat when he retires. She says, Drew, a politician, and McConkey says he’s truly sorry. He assumed Drew would confide in Nina and that she would know what he was planning on doing. Drew says he just hadn’t gotten to it yet, and McConkey says, how about now? As the minister would say, all those who think Drew should not run for office, speak now or forever hold your peace.

Kristina says she’s not asking Alexis to choose, but she is responsible for this baby. And she has been ever since Molly and TJ chose her to carry this child. Alexis says, their child, and Kristina says she knows it’s their child, and she’s been trying so hard to do the right thing. She’s due to give birth to this baby in August, and she’s freaked out about it enough as it is. She doesn’t want to have to be thinking about this. Honestly, she’s been mentally preparing herself to sign away the rights and give this baby to Molly and TJ. Now she doesn’t even know if they’re going to make it. So she has to understand what her rights are in case she needs to protect this child. Alexis goes to her computer and says she’s sending Kristina the links to relevant statutes. Kristina asks if she just happened to have that open on her browser, and Alexis says she’s had it bookmarked since Kristina told her that she was pregnant. Kristina says, so Alexis does understand her concern, and Alexis says she just sent Kristina the link to the relevant statutes. Use the information as she sees fit. Kristina thanks her, and starts to leave, but Alexis calls her back. She says she wants Kristina to think long and hard about the promises she made to Molly and TJ, and the consequences if she breaks them. Kristina nods and leaves.

Elizabeth knocks on Finn’s door, and Violet answers. Elizabeth hugs her, picking her up, and Finn comes out.

Gio takes Josslyn and Trina to the apartment, which is super cute and about a hundred times nicer than my first apartment. He says, a living room, kitchenette, two bedrooms, only one bathroom. Trina says, it beats the showers in the dorms, and Josslyn says, it’s crazy. She’s been to the Quartermaines a million times and parked right outside the garage. She had no idea this place was here. Gio says, Ned offered it to him. Ned thought he’d like a place of his own, a little extra privacy. But Aunt Lois and Olivia weren’t having it. They want him at the house. Josslyn asks, why? Are they scared he’s going to get into trouble or something? He says, more like they think he might expire if he doesn’t have someone to do his laundry and make sure he eats regular meals. He can’t say for sure the Quartermaines will want to rent this place. They’ll have to talk to them directly, but since Josslyn’s brother Michael is a Quartermaine, he’s guessing they won’t drive too hard of a bargain. His phone rings, and he steps out to take the call. Josslyn says she knows they haven’t seen the bedrooms or the closets, but what does Trina think? They’re close to campus, it’s clean, it’s safe, there’s plenty of parking. She kind of loves it.

Chase knocks at Alexis’s door and asks if this is a bad time. She says, it’s been a day. From his expression, she’s thinking he’s having the same one. He asks if she knows Finn’s been drinking, and she says, he told her… How bad is it? Chase sits down and says, he’s drinking non-stop. He’s being irresponsible and reckless. He tried to confront Finn, but Finn completely shut him out. Elizabeth tried, but his behavior left her no choice but to end the relationship. She says, if Elizabeth jumped ship, it must be pretty bad, and he says, she still cares about him, but she doesn’t want to enable him or expose his behavior to her sons. (I think he meant expose her sons to his behavior.) She didn’t know if Finn ever got a new sponsor when his sponsor left a year ago, and suggested he talk to Alexis. Alexis says, if she was his sponsor, she wouldn’t be able to break a confidence, but she’s not. She hasn’t talked to Finn in a few days, but he did tell her that he slipped at the wedding. Chase says, Finn drank at his wedding before their dad died?

Elizabeth says, looks like someone is going swimming, and Violet says, they’re going to the MetroCourt pool. Elizabeth says, it’s a little late for that. By the time they get there, they’re not going to have whole lot of time to swim. Violet says, they would have gone early, but daddy fell asleep and forgot, and Finn laughs. He asks if Violet wants to run to the lobby and get their mail, and she says, okay. She leaves, and Finn asks if Elizabeth wants to come in. She puts her bag down and he closes the door. She says, Jake and Aiden have been asking about Violet. Even though they’re not together, Violet is still her niece and the boys’ cousin. She’d really love to take Violet to the pool right now, then bring Violet back to her house for dinner. He says he knows a wellness check when he sees one. Did Chase send her here?

Josslyn tells Trina that they can go hiking in the woods. They can even use the pool and the tennis courts on the grounds. She’ll talk to Michael. She’s sure they’ll get a great price on rent, because she knows everybody. Why isn’t Trina saying anything? She hasn’t said more than two words. Does she not like it? Trina says, no. She’s just not sure. Josslyn asks if she’s having second thoughts about moving off campus, but Trina says, no, not at all. Josslyn asks if it’s the idea of moving on, and Trina says, maybe. Josslyn says, if she’s not ready… but Trina says she wants to be, and this place is perfect. Maybe a little too perfect, like it’s too good to be true. Josslyn says, every now and then, that can happen. Isn’t she due for something like that? Gio comes back and asks what they think of the place.

Nina says she thinks it’s actually very inspiring, and Drew is going to be the perfect candidate to succeed the congressman. Despite his past legal problems, but they don’t need to get into that right now. McConkey says, old news, and they’ll deal with that, and Nina says, no doubt. Drew could not have a better mentor in politics. And the congressman couldn’t have chosen a better, more fitting successor. McConkey says, there’s nothing he likes to hear more than his instincts were correct, so they’ll time his retirement with Drew’s announcement that he’s going to run to take his place in the House. They need to work on getting their campaign together, so it will run as smoothly as possible. Drew says he just has to get his staff together first, and McConkey says, better hurry up. His opponent is the worst kind of opportunist. And it’s not a question of Drew saying he wants to win; he has to win. They need people in influential places in his stead, like this lady here. It’s good to have her. Good to see them both. He leaves, and Drew says, what the hell was that? Past legal troubles that they need not get into? She forgot mention that she was the one who pointed the SEC in his direction to begin with. She says, please. She couldn’t have been more supportive with the congressman right now. He says, agreed. So what’s the catch? She says, no catch. As loathsome as she feels he is, his brand of loathsome is perfect for Washington. He says he’s flattered, and she says, and also, she needs a favor. He says, of course (🍷) she does.

Alexis tells Chase, Finn wasn’t drinking per se at the wedding. He inadvertently grabbed a glass that had champagne in it, and she didn’t think that would… and she can tell from Chase’s face that Finn wasn’t very forthcoming about that. He says, it’s the first he’s hearing of it. Finn told him that he had his first drink when he found their dad. She says, he told her that as well. He came over and they talked. He told her that there was a bottle of alcohol in his apartment someone had left as a gift and he drank it after their father died, but he was adamant that he was stopping. Chase says, he’s been drinking the whole time. At their dad’s memorial, he saw Finn taking shots. He’s been going to bars… He came here because he had questions. She says she’ll do her best, and he says, Finn tells him that he’s a drug addict, not an alcoholic, so he can drink normally like everyone else. She says, it’s the story he’s telling in order to justify his behavior. He hasn’t had a drink in years, and he goes to regular AA meetings, so he wouldn’t do that if he weren’t an alcoholic. Chase says he trusted Finn when he said it was just a slip and he had it under control, but all addicts say that. He knows that because he has training for it and he was willfully blinded by it. Alexis says, listen to her because she knows what she’s talking about. This isn’t on Chase. He can’t control this. All he can do is take his cues from what Finn does, not what he says. Chase says, that leads him to his next question. Finn promised that he was going to AA meetings. Has she seen him?

Finn tells Elizabeth that he admits he’s had a couple of bad days, but if she and Chase think him getting drunk after his father’s funeral is a crisis, then he doesn’t know what more there is to say. She tells him to say he’ll stop lying to himself and everyone else. She didn’t want to come back here. Not after what happened last night, which she’s not even sure he fully remembers. Yet here she is. Because she loves him and he’s in trouble. And Violet needs a safe home. He says, Violet has a safe home. Please leave his daughter out of this. She says, Violet doesn’t deserve to be in the middle of his crisis. He’s got to get help before things get really out of control. He says, of all the people in his life, she was the last one he thought would turn their back on him. But clearly, that’s the choice she’s made. (Show of hands. How many people want to smack him right now?) She says, all she’s asking is for him to get real with himself and to give his daughter a break from the way he’s handling his grief. Violet can stay with her and the boys. She can stay with Chase and Brook… He says, she’s not going anywhere. Violet is his daughter. He is her father. And she stays with him. This is the last time he’s going to say that.

On Monday, Portia has something that might put a smile on Elizabeth’s face; Chase tells Cody that he wouldn’t trade it for the world; and Finn tells Alexis that it’s his loss and his to deal with in his own way.

🛟 Al-Anon…

Even non-profits have a business to run, and I worked in Al-Anon’s corporate office for several years. You didn’t cause it, you can’t cure it, and you can’t control it. If a loved one’s drinking is affecting your life, let Al-Anon help you. And in the long run, them. (Sorry the link is so small. Occasionally, the come out like that, but there’s nothing I can do about it.)

What I Watched Today

(rambling, random thoughts & annoyingly detailed recaps from real time TV watching)

General Hospital

Sonny says he’s been dealing with a high-level security firm lately. Has Anna heard of Pikeman? She says she has, and he doesn’t want anything to do with him. He says, too late, and she asks, how involved is he with them? Dante comes out and asks if he’s interrupting, but Sonny says, it’s always good to see him. Dante says he realizes he hasn’t seen Sonny since his boy Dex called in a dead body outside of GH.

Carly says she’s so happy Avery is having a sleepover with Donna, and she has somebody to make cookies with besides the moss bowl🎍. Avery says, because Donna’s too little to bake, and Carly says, she is. There’s knock at the door, and Avery says, mommy! She lets Ava in, and asks why she’s here. She’s spending the night with Mama Carly and Donna. Carly says, that’s a good question. What’s going on? Ava says she just wanted to see her little girl.

Gregory is sitting in Alexis’s office when she walks in, and he says, don’t tell him. She called him here because there’s a big story about to break. Or maybe a scoop she can’t trust anyone else with. Political? International? Alexis says, nothing like that, and he says, don’t keep him in suspense. Let’s roll up our sleeves and get to work. She says, it’s not about work, and he asks what it’s about. She says, him and his ALS. Someone else knows about it.

TJ says he’s home, and asks how Molly is holding up. She says, today’s been good for a lot of reasons, and he says, let’s hear one. She says she’ll give them to him. Her foot is feeling so much better… and this. She shows Valiant to him, and he laughs.

On the phone, the prison guard asks where the doctor is. They need him in the library now. Drew tells Cyrus to stay with him, and Cyrus sees a bright white light. He opens his eyes, and he’s in a suit, lying on a cot in a single cell. A bell clangs, and he gets up. He finds the door is locked, and says, this is wrong. He doesn’t belong here. Laura says, of course (🍷) he does, and he sees her standing outside the cell. She says, this is exactly where he deserves to be for eternity.

Dante says, Dex is literally in the wrong place at the wrong time again, and Sonny says, Dex was just throwing something away in the dumpster in the alley at GH, and sees a body. Can he imagine? A body? He’s a good citizen and made a call. Dante says, Dex told him the same thing, but normally, Sonny’s people don’t call his people, so it’s a little weird. Sonny says, they do what they can. He just hopes they find whoever did this. Dante says, they’re working on it, when Kristina joins them. She gives Sonny a kiss, and asks what he and Anna are doing together. Anna asks if Dante brought her here, and Kristina says her car broke down on the way home and she just had it fixed. She called Dante to give her a ride and he offered to buy her a drink, so here they are. Sonny asks if everything is all right, and Kristina says, all good. Sonny says he’s glad Dante was able to pick her up, and Dante says, maybe Kristina just has to figure out what roadside assistance is. Kristina says, that’s hilarious, and he says, let’s go to the bar. Kristina says, the bar is crowded. Let’s just pull up a chair – she brings a chair over to the table – and sit with dad and Anna. Dante gets a chair, and they sit at the end of the table. Kristina asks if they’ve figured out why they almost got shot.

TJ says he loves that after eleven years, he’s still learning new things about Molly. How did this reunion between her and… She says, Valiant, and he takes the stuffed horse, saying, how did this reunion between her and Valiant happen? She says her sister, and he says, Sam? She says, no, Kristina.

Gregory asks what Alexis is talking about, and she says, Tracy Quartermaine called her. He says he had dinner with Tracy tonight. It was pleasant. They didn’t fight, and got along pretty well. He wonders why Tracy would have called her about him, and she says, because when he went to get the check, she noticed that his hand froze or shook, and he wasn’t able to pick up the card from the table. He says he passed it off as a symptom of old age; too many years of writing on a blackboard. Alexis says, unfortunately, she wasn’t convinced. She’s very self-absorbed, but she’s blunt and doesn’t miss a trick. She called and specifically asked Alexis if there was anything wrong with him.

Carly says, this is a surprise. Is Ava here to pick up Avery? Avery says she wants to stay. Please. They just made cookies, and she and Donna are going to watch the movie Frozen. Ava says, of course (🍷) she can stay. She wouldn’t steal Avery away from her movie. Carly gives Avery a plate of cookies, tells her, share with Donna, and Avery runs out. Ava says she’s sorry for dropping by unannounced, but she had to see Avery and the moss bowl🎍. Carly asks, what’s going on? Does this have anything to do with Avery’s new nanny?

Drew says, Cyrus has lost consciousness, but he’s still got a pulse. How long before the doctor gets here? The guard says, they’re on partial lockdown. A fight broke out in C-block, and the doctor can’t get through. Drew tells Cyrus, it’s okay; hang in.

Cyrus says, no. This isn’t real. It can’t be. He’s hallucinating. Laura says, he’s not hallucinating. He’s dying. He says, no. He won’t accept that. He’s not done. Not even close. Inside the cell with him now, she says, he spent his whole life wanting everything his way, and using any means possible to get it, but there are some things he can’t control. No matter how determined, how powerful, or how ruthless he may be, in the end, they’re just mortals. He says, this can’t be the end – we see she’s outside again – not like this. She says, he built this prison. From his own selfish ambitions, his cruelty to other people, and his lust for power. If he didn’t want to see this as he’s passing from one world to the next, he should have made different choices. He says he tried.

After they order drinks, Kristina says she’s going to freshen up. Sonny and Anna aren’t off the hook. She wants to hear everything when she gets back. She leaves, and Dante says, she’s not going to let up. Sonny says, she’s a force of nature, and Anna says she likes that. Dante says, she’s got good instincts too. Were they talking about the shooting? Did they learn something new? Sonny says, they’re just throwing things around, and Anna says, they didn’t arrange to meet or anything. She was having a couple of glasses of wine, and his father joined her. Dante says, this is as good a time as any to talk about the fact the WSB might want Anna dead. He looks at Sonny and says, or someone else wants to kill him.

Kristina is drying her hands in the bathroom, when Trish walks in, and Kristina thanks her. Her brother and dad were exactly where Trish said they’d be on the terrace. Trish says, of course (🍷). Just doing her job. Kristina says, she’s very good at it. Would she like to be on the Board? Trish is an excellent host. Kristina’s not just saying that either. She’s in the hospitality industry. Trish says, that’s right. She works at Charlie’s. Is she still going to be able to work at Charlie’s when she opens up this youth center? That is what she’s doing, isn’t it? Opening up a youth center for LGBTQ+ kids?

Gregory asks what Alexis told Tracy, and they sit down. She says she told Tracy that as far as she knows, he’s in good health, which they both know is a lie. He says he’s sorry. He knows she’s not comfortable with the situation, but he appreciates her covering for him. She asks how much longer he thinks he’ll be able to cover this up.

Ava tells Carly that she just wanted to give her daughter a kiss goodnight. Now that she has, she’ll be on her way. Carly says, come on. Sonny calls her out of the blue and asks her to take Avery for the night, which is no problem; she loves having Avery. But the timing of this coincides with Sonny’s random decision to get Avery a new nanny, which doesn’t make any sense, because Pilar is capable of taking care of both girls. Ava says, there was an incident at the park involving Pilar, and she and Sonny decided to replace her. Carly says she knows what happened at the park. Sonny told her. Pilar’s a wreck about it. She feels awful for taking her eyes off Avery. Ava just looks at her, and Carly says, Avery told her about her new nanny, Betty. Avery says she’s really nice. Ava says, she is, and Carly says, really? Because Josslyn ran into her at the pool and she doesn’t agree. So who’s telling the truth?

The guard asks how Cyrus is doing, and Drew says he can’t get a pulse. He’s going to start CPR. Again, I’m no medical professional, but shouldn’t he have done this by now? He starts to pump on Cyrus’s chest, and tells the guard that they need a defibrillator.

Cyrus says he tried to be better for Laura, and she says, you know how you used to quote those Bible verses? They contained so much wisdom. Wisdom about what really matters in life. Does he remember the one, the greatest of these is love? He says, of course (🍷). First Corinthians, 13:13. Inside with him again, she says, how many times did he quote that? and he says, a lot. Back outside, she asks if he understood it. Really understood it. Because he’s been given so many opportunities to love and be loved, and he threw them all away. He says, the one he regrets throwing away the most is with her. He wanted to love her.

Ava tells Carly that she can’t imagine why Josslyn doesn’t like Betty. Avery thinks she’s great. Carly asks if Ava does. Does she like Betty? Ava just looks at her, and Carly says, yeah. When she saw Ava in Sonny’s office, she seemed really tense, and she doesn’t seem any more relaxed now. Ava says, it’s really none of her business, but Carly says, Sonny made it her business when he called her. What’s intriguing to her is, Ava and Sonny didn’t appear to be fighting, and that says a lot. Ava tells Carly that if she has something to say, say it, and Carly says, Ava and Sonny aren’t fighting. Ava brought in a new nanny no one likes, and instead of Avery spending the night with the new nanny or Ava, Sonny wants her to stay with Carly. You know what that tells her? That Ava’s up to her old tricks.

Anna says, Dante’s father came up with an interesting theory, and Dante says, let’s hear it. Anna says, the releasing of all of her WSB files, along with the information that she was a double agent, could be more than just a sick, posthumous revenge tactic of Victor’s. Dante says, they have to figure out what more there is to it. Victor was hellbent on revenge. He was director of the WSB for a lot of years, and he had access to Anna’s file, which he obviously could have read. Sonny says, the timing seems too convenient, and Dante asks, how so? Sonny says, somebody in the WSB pool released all that information to make her look bad. They want her out. She’s a good agent, and they don’t want her looking around. Dante says, that explains a lot.

Kristina tells Trish, yes. She’s starting up an LGBTQIA+ youth center here in Port Charles. The idea is to provide temporary housing. Why does she ask? Trish says, Nina was telling her about it. She brags about Kristina all the time. She thinks the work Kristina is doing is amazing. Kristina says she didn’t know Nina felt that way, and Trish says, for what it’s worth (🍷), Nina and her dad are really proud of her, and she thinks what Kristina is doing is great. All the lives she’s going to touch and save… Kristina says she doesn’t know about saving lives, but she’s hoping to create a safe space where people can just be themselves. They don’t have to worry about being bullied or judged or worse. Trish says she wishes a place had existed like that for her brother. His name is Teddy, and when he was fifteen years old, their parents threw him out of the house. Kristina says, that’s terrible. Does Trish mind if she asks what happened? Trish says, he was guilty of being himself. Then one day, their parents caught him fooling around with a boy, and their dad went ballistic. He said, Teddy, no son of mine is gonna be gay (I doubt that’s the word he would have used, but this is daytime), and they forced him out of the house. Kristina says, at fifteen; that’s terrible. Does she know where he ended up going? Trish says, he took off for the city, and they never heard from him again. Last she heard, he was living on the streets. She doesn’t know if he’s safe or if he even has money for food. This is why it’s incredible that Kristina’s opening up this center. It’s so important. Kristina thanks her, and Trish says she’s got to get back to work. She thanks Kristina for all the Teddys of the world, and it personally means so much to her. So good luck to her, and don’t forget to invite her to the opening. Kristina says, she’s got it, and Trish leaves.

Molly says she knows Kristina isn’t TJ’s favorite person right now, but she really seems to be trying. It was nice of Kristina to come over and check on her. TJ says he can tell the visit brightened Molly’s day, and she says, it did. It was really nice to just hang out together again. He wonders if Kristina asked about being their surrogate, and she says, not a word. They talked about old times together and the youth center she’s starting. He says, but Molly was thinking it, wasn’t she? and she says she has to admit, she’s been thinking about a lot of different things, and she wants to talk them all out with him. Because whatever happens next, they have to be on the same page.

Drew continues chest compression, and tells Cyrus that he has to fight. On the phone, the guard says, they have to get lockdown lifted and get the doctor through. They need a defibrillator in the library… If you don’t get it down here, this man will die!

Cyrus says he was so careful. He made sure to leave Laura breadcrumbs that he knew she was smart enough to follow, and they all led straight to him and the realization that he was her brother. She says, him and Martin, and he says, and Martin. He was always the good son, but he had his faults… They all do, but Marty never made the big mistakes, the life-altering ones that he and Laura did. She sits on the cot and says she definitely made her share of mistakes. He says, yes, and the more he dug around in her history, the more he felt like they were kindred souls. They’re so much alike, and if she could just recognize that, maybe he wouldn’t feel so alone anymore. He’d have someone to confide in. Someone who cared about him, and in return, he’d have someone to take care of, his little sister. She smiles and says, he could have just told her that she was his sister. Instead, he manipulated her because he wanted to control the situation, but those manipulations led to his ruin. And eventually, they led him to hold her hostage. He says, but he would never have hurt her, and she says, it’s just the two of them now. There’s no need to lie here. There’s no point anymore. He created all of this with his pride, with his anger, with his hurt feelings. Isn’t that what’s really at the bottom of this? She hugs him, and says, all of that pain, all of those hurt feelings. He starts to cry, and she says, because hurt people lash out, and hurt other people. She steps away and is outside again, and says, but nothing like he’s capable of. He says, the night he held her hostage, there was a moment where he thought he was going to die, and he was going to take her with him so he didn’t have to be alone… But then he looked at her and couldn’t do it. He knew the police were out there, and gave them the opening, and they stopped him. He did it for her.

Alexis says, Gregory told her weeks ago what might happen to him – the cramping, the slurred speech, the imbalance. She’s already seen evidence of those things. He says he knows she has, and she says, no matter how hard he tries to cover this up, his body is starting to betray him. How much longer does he think he can hide this?

Carly says she’s right, isn’t she? Ava’s in trouble, and Sonny’s helping for Avery’s sake. Ava asks how far Carly is going to push this, and Carly says, Ava came by just to say goodnight. Is Ava going to tell her that’s all this is? Ava says, if the only way to end this interrogation is to take Avery home, then she’ll go get her daughter. Ava heads for the kitchen door, and Carly says, if Ava does that, she’ll tell Sonny that she came by and grabbed Avery. The girls will be disappointed, but hell, they’ve seen Frozen a thousand times. Go ahead. Take Avery.

Dante says, the only thing they know for sure is the gun that was used should have been locked up in a WSB facility in Berlin, and Anna says, and the only people with access to it would be inside the agency. Dante says, there they have it then. It’s got to be an inside job. Whoever it is knew Victor had her followed. Maybe they gave the files to him. Sonny says, they knew once it was released, that Anna would be disgraced and arrested. She says, they got one part right. She was certainly disgraced. Dante says, but she wasn’t arrested. She got in front of it, and resigned from the WSB. She says she was forced to, and he says, be that as it may, she’s walking around free. She says she doesn’t know if looking over your shoulder every five minutes is free, and Dante says, that explains the shot at her. Whoever it is thinks she’s a threat. They either took the shot themselves, or had someone else do it. Kristina comes back, and says, do what themselves? Take a shot at Anna?

Kristina tells TJ to be honest. How is he feeling about all this? Does he really want to be a father? He says, more than anything, and she says, does he want the child to have his DNA? He takes her hands, and says he’d love their child no matter what, and he knows they’ll make the best parents a kid ever had, regardless of their DNA. She says she knows he’d love their child no matter what, but he didn’t answer her question. Does he want their child to have his DNA? He says, would that be his preference to have their child be biologically his? Yes, he’d like that. She asks how soon down the road he’s thinking. A year? Two? Three? He says he’s ready now, and she says she is too. To all of it. She wants a baby, she wants him to be the biological father, and the sooner the better. They kiss, and she says, which means, they need to find a surrogate. He says, which leads to the next question. Will it be Kristina?

Gregory says, Alexis is right. His symptoms have gotten more frequent and they’re getting more severe, which makes whatever time he has left that much more precious before Chase and Finn find out he has ALS. She says, he has one son that’s a doctor and one son that’s a detective. How long does he think it’s going to be before they figure it out? He says, these might be his last days, even weeks, before they notice, and they have to start being afraid of him. She says, they’re not going to be afraid of him; they’re going to love and support him. Gregory says, once they know, all they’re going to see is his disease. Right now, they look at him and still see their dad, not someone whose terrible decline is looming on the horizon and wondering if his end is near. She says, if it makes him feel any better, for what it’s worth (🍷), none of them really know how much time they’ve got left. He says, she’s right, but he wants to enjoy what little time he has left without them worrying about it getting cut short, and his ending will be terrible. So he just wants to stop and savor these good times while he still can, while he’s still able to. Is that so wrong?

Dante says, they’re just speculating, and Sonny asks if he can talk to Kristina for a second. They step away, and Dante asks Anna, what’s going on? Something tells him that if he hadn’t stopped by, she wasn’t going to call and fill him in. She says, fill him in on what? Speculation? He asks if they weren’t supposed to be working together, and she says, when there’s something to work on. He says he thought she wanted to be bait and try to draw out the shooter, and she says she thinks she’s reconsidered. She’s not on a mission. She’s not undercover. She doesn’t have a badge. She’s a private citizen, and she happens to be one who can protect herself. He asks if she’s sure about that. What happens if his old man’s theory turns out to be right, and it is someone inside the WSB? Someone who wants her out of the way.

Inside, Sonny says he has a problem with Kristina driving a car that’s not reliable, but she says, it’s fine. It’s in the shop; it’s getting fixed. He says he’s going to buy her a new car, so she doesn’t have to worry about it breaking down, but she says, he’s not. He’s already done enough for her as it is. He’s getting the youth center up and running, and that’s way more important to her than a new car is. So no. She’s not letting him buy her one.

Inside the cell, Laura says, Cyrus let the police shoot him for her? and he says he didn’t want anything to happen to her. He needed to protect her from him. She looks startled, and he says, she doesn’t believe him, does she? She says she does believe him. He made a very brave choice that night to let both of them live on. She thanks him for that. And in doing so, he gave them both the opportunity to do better. He laughs and says, she doesn’t need to do better, but she says, of course (🍷) she does. She was angry with him and let her anger blind her at times. She was quick to judge him and turned her back on him, when she should have been reaching out to him and trying to help him. So that leaves a lot of room for her to do better. He says, but she couldn’t have redeemed him. That doesn’t fall on her shoulders. She says she knows that now, because in the end, they all have to save themselves. But does he want to? Outside again, she says, because he’s the only one keeping him locked in here. She walks away, and he begs her not to go. He pushes on the door, and it opens.

Cyrus opens his eyes, and begins to breath. Drew says, there he is. Come on. Hang in there. The doctor’s on his way. Cyrus grabs Drew’s wrist, and Drew says, all right.

Gregory says, it wasn’t fair of him to put Alexis in a position to keep his secret, but she says, it wasn’t fair of her to put him in a position to tell her his secret when he wasn’t ready. It’s his diagnosis. He tells someone when he’s damn well ready. He says he appreciates that, and he intends to tell Chase and Finn, he promises. But in the meantime, he’s going to enjoy every minute he has left living a normal life. He’s grateful for her confidence and their friendship. She smiles.

TJ helps put Molly’s foot up on the coffee table, and she says she’s been thinking about this a lot, and she talked it through with her mom. She doesn’t want to ask Kristina to carry their child. He asks if she’s sure, and she says, yes. Although she’s certain Kristina would do it for them, she doesn’t think Kristina fully understands the demands or the commitment it would mean for her. He says he’s honestly relieved. Kristina doesn’t need the added weight of being their surrogate while she’s trying to get the youth center started. He thinks it will be better for all of them if they register with a service. Work out the legal and monetary arrangements, and start interviewing candidates that actually know what to expect. She asks how he knows so much about this, and he says he started doing some research just in case they ended up going this route. She asks why he didn’t tell her, and he says he didn’t want to pressure her with this right away. She says she doesn’t feel pressure at all. They both want this, and that means they feel hopeful. She snuggles on his shoulder, and he says, so we’re having a baby, and she says, yes. She asks if Valiant heard that; they’re having a baby.

Kristina asks if Sonny knew that Nina was bragging about her, but he says, no, but it doesn’t surprise him. Nina is proud of her. She says, Nina told Trish about her starting up the Corinthos-Davis House, and he says, now Nina can see for herself that Kristina is going to change the world. Kristina says she kind of thinks she’s starting to see that for herself too. Admittedly, she still has her doubts… He says, everyone has doubts. Does she know what you do with doubts? You just move through it. She hugs him.

Anna tells Dante, if Sonny’s right, and she’s being targeted by someone inside the Bureau, the bodyguards aren’t going to do her any good. He asks why she says that. Because no one can beat the big bad WSB? She says, because they’ll never come at her the same way twice. Sonny comes back with Kristina, and says he’s going to take her home. He thanks Dante for dropping her by, and says goodbye to Anna. They leave, and Anna tells Dante, if she’s being targeted, the shooting at the MetroCourt pool was a one-off. If it had worked, fine; she’d be dead. But it didn’t work. And if her enemy is indeed inside the Bureau, then they’re not going to want to call attention to themselves, and they’re going to go underground and wait months, a year maybe, before they try again. Does he really want to be glued to her side for that amount of time? He says, yeah, and she says, it’s going to play havoc with his job, not to mention his personal life… He says, she’s driving this point home pretty good; he thinks he gets it. She says, here’s another point. As she mentioned, they won’t use the same method twice. The Bureaus got a lot of dirty tricks up their sleeve, and it’s impossible to safeguard against all of them. Even if someone was glued to her side 24/7, which they’ve agreed he won’t be. He says, all right. He’ll stand down, but if something changes, she has to let him know. She says, he’ll be her first call. He has her word.

Carly says she thinks Sonny wants Avery here because she’s safe, and so does Ava. Avery comes in and says, they paused the movie. She and Donna need more cookies, and Carly says, all right, taking the empty plate. Ava says, while Mama Carly is getting the cookies, why doesn’t Avery give her the biggest hug ever? Avery says, ever? and hugs Ava. Ava says she’s going to take it home and keep it all night. She loves Avery so much. Avery says she loves Ava too, and Ava says she’d do anything for Avery. Carly gives Avery the cookies, saying, no more. Avery runs off, and Carly says, whatever Ava and Sonny are up to, she hopes they know what they’re doing. Ava thanks her, and leaves, giving a nod to the moss bowl🎍 as she passes.

Cyrus is receiving oxygen on a stretcher, and a paramedic says he called ahead to GH. They’re expecting them. Let’s go. They take Cyrus out, and the guard says, that man’s alive because of Drew. Drew says, not just because of him. The guard could have refused to let Drew help him. He had a big part in that too. The guard’s phone rings, and he says, the paramedics just took him to GH… Got it. Drew is about to leave, and the guard asks where he thinks he’s going. Drew asks what he means, and the guard says, he was busted for fighting. He’s taking Drew to solitary. Drew says, is he kidding? but the guard hustles him out.

Tomorrow, Brook says she’s not willing to risk it for Tracy; Chase wants to ask Austin a few questions about Gordon; Sonny says he came here to make someone an offer they can’t refuse (he’s required to say that at least once a year); and Cyrus needs someone to give all his money away.

What I Watched Today

(rambling, random thoughts & annoyingly detailed recaps from real time TV watching)

General Hospital

Sasha brings take-out coffee into the garage, and Brando asks if she got one for him. She says she got him a latte, and he thanks her. She says she thinks she left her phone there, and he says she did. He found it in the car after she left, and he put it in the back. She says she wants to tell him something, and he says, that it shouldn’t have happened, but she says she was about to say she’s glad it did, and Brando smiles.

Sonny asks if Nina is okay, and Nina says, yeah, wrong number. He says he made coffee, and she says she’s desperate. He says she’s not desperate. All she has to do is take her time, and it’s up to her to pick and choose where she goes from here. She asks if he’s talking about Eli, and he says she barely knows Eli. She says, Phyllis and Lenny are fond of him, and Sonny says, but Eli is a stranger to Nina. As a matter-of-fact, so is he.

Valentin asks Anna if she has any news about Chase, and she says Finn is keeping her up to date. They haven’t made a diagnosis that it’s poison yet, but she and Valentin can’t tell them. Peter will take off with the antidote. He says, so they honor the agreement, and wait while Peter reconciles with Maxie, and she says, they have to fix this.  Jason is in prison, thanks to Cyrus, and Peter is going to take off. Valentin says, not if he can do anything about it. Carly meets them at the door of her house, saying, the guards let her know they were there. She invites them in, and says, no more waiting around. They have to act now.

At Perdino’s, Laura leaves a phone message for Nikolas, saying, she doesn’t know what’s worse. Him being in league with Cyrus, or him going radio silent. Please call her back. Martin comes in, and says he couldn’t help overhearing her leave a message for her son. She asks why it’s his business, and he says he was hoping Nikolas kept his promise. Laura asks what her son promised him. More to the point, what did Martin offer Nikolas in return?

On the phone, Nikolas says he’s narrowed the search to a bakery in Stowe, Vermont where he thinks Martin ordered a hummingbird cake for his mother’s birthday. He knows it’s a long shot, but he needs to know if Martin, or anyone else, ordered a hummingbird cake from the bakery, and he needs to know any corresponding address. Call him as soon as they have some names. Ava asks if he’s really doing this; finding Cyrus’s mother, despite the fact that she and Laura advised against it. He says, if bringing Florence back to her son means keeping Alexis safe, then she’s right, he’s doing this.

Alexis’s cellmate Maggie brings her to the gym/yard area, and says, they have an hour of the yard, and then do the work they’re assigned. You don’t learn to survive by lessons some advisor gives you. If you’re tough, you survive. If not… A large, disappointingly stereotypical inmate walks over to Alexis, who asks if she can help her. The inmate pushes her.

Maggie says, this one is new, Elda. Don’t worry. She’ll keep her in line. Elda walks away, and Alexis asks Maggie what the hell Elda’s problem is. Maggie tells her, steer clear. If Elda takes a dislike to her, compared to what she can do, incarceration will seem like a day at the spa. Alexis asks if the guard just watches, and Maggie says Alexis has a lot to learn. Alexis says that’s what Sam warned her about, and Maggie asks who Sam is; Alexis’s husband? Alexis says, her daughter. She said being locked up would seem like a foreign land, with its own rules and languages. She’ll have to be more careful if she’s going to survive another day, let alone three years.

Ava tells Nikolas, once Cyrus’s mother is back, Cyrus will have no incentive to help Alexis. Not to mention he’ll have free reign to get even with Jason and Carly for taking Florence in the first place. Nikolas says, all that power and money won’t give Cyrus the one thing he’ll want after he gets his mother back. Ava says, Cyrus has money. Sonny is gone, and Jason is in prison, so Sonny’s territory is ripe for a takeover. What more could Cyrus possibly want? He asks what means more to them than money and power, and she says, love and family. Cyrus thinks Nikolas can convince Laura to accept him as part of the family. He says, it worked with Martin. He offered to repair Martin’s relationship with Laura, and Martin offered him a clue that might lead him to Florence. Ava says, the bakery where he got Florence the cake, and Nikolas says, Cyrus will come back to him sooner or later, and ask him to build a bridge to his sister. Ava says Nikolas is actually kind of sexy when he has things figured out, and they kiss.

Martin tells Laura, he gave Nikolas nothing; he has nothing to give. Laura says Nikolas can manipulate with the best of them. Is Martin sure he didn’t tell Nikolas where to find Florence? He says, of course (🍷) not. He has no idea where she is. She asks what Nikolas promised, and he says, to intercede with her on his behalf. Nikolas volunteered to mend fences between them. Martin knows how angry Laura is with him for his contribution to Julian’s escape, but please believe him, he had no idea Julian was responsible for what happened at The Floating Rib. Laura’s daughter is his niece, and now Lulu… He swears on his soul, if he knew about the death and destruction Julian created, he would never have helped. She says, despite the blackmail? and he says, for all the good it did him? Even though he gave into Julian’s blackmail, in a few short weeks, everyone knew Cyrus was his brother. And now he and Laura are on the opposite side of something, and any progress they’ve made as brother and sister seems to have vanished, which is exactly what Cyrus wanted. Cyrus is afraid he and Laura will end up on the same side, allied against him. When Cyrus walked in on Laura giving Martin a birthday cake, Cyrus’s instinct kicked in, and his bag of tricks. He exaggerated Martin’s guilt in the hope of obscuring his own. She tells him, don’t worry. No matter how disappointed she is in Martin, she’ll never forget that Cyrus gave the orders to plant the bomb in The Floating Rib. Cyrus approaches their table, and says Laura never ceases to amaze him. He didn’t think she and Martin would be on speaking terms after what she learned about him. Maybe there’s hope for him and Laura.

Brando says he didn’t know if he’d see Sasha again… in that way. Last night was all about… She says she’d just ended the relationship with Michael, and he thought she was on the rebound. He asks if she can blame him, and she says, not really. She and Michael were pretty serious, until they weren’t, but even when she still hoped she and Michael would pick up where they left off, Brando was always there. He says, stalking her? and she says she never minded. He says he figured that out when she didn’t call the cops, and she says, as much as she tried to ignore it, something was between them. He says, internal combustion, and she says he’s comparing her to a car; how romantic. Can she at least let her have an eight-cylinder engine with turbo charging? He says he’s been meaning to ask her how she knows so much about cars. She asks, why wouldn’t she? Did he think the face of Deception has no life beyond the glamorous shoots? He says he was hoping to hear more about it.

Nina tells Sonny that Eli doesn’t trust him either, and Sonny says, tell him something he doesn’t already know. She says, for the record, she’s not in the market for a new relationship, and he says, if she were… She says the perfect man has to make her fall in love with him, and then completely break her heart. He says she’s too hard on herself. She doesn’t deliberately choose these guys; she’s much better than they are. She says, is she? and he says didn’t she come there to get away from her bad choices. She’s way too smart not to know she’s in an unhealthy relationship is like. She says, is she? the thing is, it doesn’t stop her from missing the person she ran away from. Maybe she should just write the article and move on. He says, maybe, but when you move on, you take yourself with you. She says he doesn’t know who he is, does he? and he says, look what happened to him, and she says, what if he could get himself back?

Carly asks if Valentin and Anna have made any progress with Gladys, and Valentin says, Gladys is a shallow, selfish, greedy beggar with a huge interest in self-preservation, like Carly said. Anna says she’s sure Cyrus has put the fear of God in Gladys, and she knows if she changes her story, Cyrus will kill her. Valentin says, not to mention what Peter is capable of doing to her, and Carly asks what Peter has done now. Anna says,  nothing, but he insists on being in Maxie’s life, and had to be escorted out of the hospital. Carly is sure it’s a nightmare for Maxie, but thinks Peter is less of threat to Maxie than Cyrus is to all of them. The only thing that’s stopping him from burning Port Charles down is that she has Florence – for now. Anna asks what she means, and Carly says Cyrus tried to offer her a deal; Florence, in exchange for Gladys changing her story so Jason could go free. He didn’t seem disappointed or angry when she turned him down. It sounded like he had another deal in place.

Sonny asks what makes Nina think he can find out who he is? She says, no one is completely anonymous. If he really wants to uncover his past, he can reach out on social media. He says he’s not sure he wants to find out what happened to him before Nixon Falls, and she asks, why not? He says he likes it there. He likes the people and the pace. He likes the fact that the highlight of the season is a dance at the firehouse. Nina says, it sounds like a lot more fun than the Met Gala, and he asks, what’s that? She says, a ball where people dress up to impress each other and raise money for the Metropolitan Museum of Art. She admits it’s a worthy cause, and he says, it’s her world. She says she could show him pictures of her and her friends dressed up on the red carpet outside the museum, everyone smiling, but no one is actually happy. He says she seems happy there, and she says, he does too. He says, why go somewhere else to find happiness? I expect them to break out in a song from Oklahoma! any second.

Brando says, so Sasha had a summer job in high school? She says, working at a garage. It was mostly in the office, but she occasionally helped with repairs. She had spending money, and discovered she liked the work. He says he pictured her playing with Disney princess dolls, and she says she did that too, but she’s not a stereotype any more than he is. He’s Cyrus’s driver-slash-bodyguard; the one Cyrus keeps around to clean up his messes, but it’s just a front. He says, don’t go calling The Invader, and she tells him, don’t worry. She likes him better alive than dead. She admires his bravery; walking a tightrope to protect Carly and her family. He says he’s more like an idiot, and she says, you don’t win medals for being an idiot. She has to get going. She has a photo shoot, and grease on her face is not a good look for the face of Deception. He says he thinks she looks great, but he’s not being very objective. He wipes her face with a clean rag, and they almost kiss, but he says he almost forgot; her phone. He leaves to get it, and she smiles.

Cyrus sits at the table, and says, the three of them breaking bread. He asks Laura if this isn’t better than their petty squabbles. Maybe one day, his mother will join them. Laura says she thought Florence was happy where she is, and Martin says, she is. Wherever she is, mama makes the best of things. Cyrus says, she’ll be happier back in the loving arms of her family, and Laura asks what he’s planning. Cyrus says he gives her his word that he’s not planning anything. Mother’s fate, as she well knows, is out of his hands.

Ava tells Nikolas, don’t distract her, and he says, he’s distracting her? She says she’s concerned about his involvement with Cyrus. Why is he certain he can find Florence when Cyrus’s own people couldn’t? He says the man he was talking to is Colonel Jackson. He served in various hot spots around the globe. He’s retired from the military, and opened his own company. She says, a mercenary? and he says, security consultant. His people can be anywhere at a moment’s notice. They’re infiltrating the bakery to find out if hummingbird cakes or any other Southern desserts have been delivered to a nearby address. Ava asks what it’s costing Nikolas, but he says, it doesn’t matter. If he finds Florence, Alexis is safe. She says, one does not guarantee the other, and he says he can’t leave his aunt in Pentenville with no resources. He has to make sure she’s protected. She says she loves him for wanting to protect his aunt, but doesn’t think this is the way to do it. Think about Cyrus, look at his history. Think of all the people he’s betrayed, including her brother. If Nikolas thinks he can trust Cyrus to keep his word, he’s making a big mistake.

Carly tells Anna and Valentin, if Cyrus gets his mother back, they lose leverage. Gladys is going to keep following Cyrus’s orders, and lie to the cops. Peter stays free, and Jason stays in prison, at least until the trial. Anna says, that would be the case, and Carly says, then they have to put more pressure on Gladys. Valentin says he’s not kidnapping Gladys, and holding her in Anna’s basement, and Carly says, why not? It’s a start. Anna says, a coerced confession won’t hold up in court, and Carly says, Anna is worried about what’s legal now, after she covered for Peter for months? After Jason warned Anna, and told her to come forward? What is going on here? Where is the help Anna promised her? Is she going to get Jason out of prison? Anna says she understands Carly’s frustration, but Carly has to trust her. If Carly goes after Gladys, she’ll make Jason’s situation worse. Carly asks what Anna is telling her. Better luck next time? Jason is just going to rot in prison? Valentin tells her, that’s not what they said, but Carly says, that’s what it sounds like. They said they wanted to stop Peter from killing someone else, to stop insinuating himself into Maxie’s life. So what are they going to do about it? Anna says, nothing. And neither is Carly.

Alexis wonders what she did to get on Elda’s bad side; she just got here. Maggie says, Elda has no other side; it’s all bad. Did Alexis defend her and lose? Alexis says she’s never seen Elda before, and Maggie says maybe Elda was her mortal enemy in another life. She has to go back inside and prepare for her parole hearing. The tips Alexis gave her are really going to help. Alexis says she was told not to trust anyone there, but… Maggie says she gets it. It’s tougher without someone to talk to. She thought a smart woman like Alexis could have fancy-talked her way out of Pentenville. Alexis says she could have plead guilty and gone to trial, and Maggie asks why she didn’t. Alexis says it’s a long story, and Maggie says she’s got the time. She sits on a bench, and Alexis says, come to think of it, she does too, and sits next to her.

Ava says all Nikolas has done is give Cyrus an opening to threaten Alexis any time he wants something. It’s what Cyrus did to her brother. He threatened Julian’s family to get him to cooperate. It’s just a manipulation. Nikolas says, he’s not Julian. Nobody manipulates him. He needs to know they’re in this together. If one of them feels threatened, they have to set aside their doubts and questions, and come together. Isn’t that the kind of marriage they’ve created, despite the odds? She says he doesn’t play fair, and he says he’s not playing. He needs to know she’s with him. Today, tomorrow, always. She asks if he needs proof, and he says, always. They kiss, and he picks her up in his arms.

Gladys comes to the garage, and sees the tools around the car. She asks if Brando doesn’t have the morning off. Why is it always all work and no play with him? Sasha’s head pops up, and she says, it’s nice to see Gladys again. Gladys asks what Sasha is doing there, and I’m hoping they weren’t doing it under the car.

Laura says Cyrus might try to make his fingerprints invisible, but it’s clear to her that he’s pressuring someone else to find his mother. Someone who loves his Aunt Alexis very much, and wants her to be protected while she’s in prison. Martin says, Nikolas was concerned about his Aunt Alexis when they last spoke, and Laura says she thought Martin didn’t tell Nikolas anything. Martin says he didn’t. For the last time, there was nothing to tell. He doesn’t even know his mother’s current location. Cyrus says, don’t blame, Marty. They rarely agree, but they both want the best for their mother. Laura laughs, and says she doesn’t think so. Martin loves his mother for who she is, but Cyrus needs his mother to validate his life. She didn’t approve when Jason took Florence, but it was the only way to contain Cyrus’s violence and greed, and it worked. Since Jason’s had Florence, there have been no shootouts. Cyrus wants his mother back because he doesn’t want Jason to have that leverage over him. She say she’ll be damned if she’ll let Cyrus use her son to make it happen, and walks out.

Carly says, they expect her to do nothing. Why? What aren’t they telling her? Anna says, Peter took steps to protect himself. It’s probably his first step in his strategy for leaving Port Charles. Carly asks what the hell Peter has done, and Valentin says they can’t tell her that, but they’re working hard to fix the situation. Anna says, if Peter even gets a hint they’re working against him, someone innocent will die. Carly asks if this innocent person has a name, and Anna says Carly isn’t the only one who wants Jason free, or Peter to be brought to justice. If she goes for Gladys, she’s going to escalate an already dangerous situation. So can she take a deep breath, and let them handle Peter? Carly says she was only working with Anna because Jason wanted her to, but Jason is in prison, so she has to follow her instincts. If they can’t tell her why she should give them time, she can’t promise them she will. Anna says, then Peter won’t be the only one with blood on his hands. He can live with it. Can Carly?

Sonny tells Nina, he’ll throw in a danish if she tells him what’s on her mind. She says, what if she told him that she did something selfish that might hurt a lot of people? He says he wouldn’t believe her. He’s seen her with Lenny and Phyllis, and she’s not a selfish person. She says, she is, but the weird part is, she believes she’s doing the right thing, a good thing; not just for herself, but for someone who will never know. Sonny asks if it’s someone he knows, and she says, it’s someone who deserves to be happy. Someone who deserves a fresh start. She’s making sure they have both of them. He says, that’s a good thing, not a selfish thing. She says, that’s what she tells herself, and sometimes she even believes it.

Sasha says she was helping Brando fix the carburetor, and Gladys says Sasha would risk her manicure to help out at the shop? Brando comes out from the office, and says he charged Sasha’s phone; it was losing juice. He sees Gladys, and asks what she’s doing there. She says she just came to check on her boy. It sounds like he had an interesting evening.

Martin says, he was hoping he and Laura could find a way past what happened on his birthday, but once again, like the Angel of Death, it takes Cyrus one minute to ruin everything. Cyrus says, relax, Marty. As soon as mother comes back, Laura will get over her anger. Martin says, do him a favor. Let’s review, shall we? In one way or another Cyrus is responsible for putting Laura’s daughter in a coma. Now Cyrus is trying to coopt her son. In what universe would Laura look at Cyrus with anything other than loathing?

Walking into Perdino’s, Valentin says, how much does Anna want to bet that Carly doesn’t wait around long enough for them to take down Peter? She says she doesn’t want to take that risk, and they go inside. They see Cyrus and Martin, and Valentin asks if Anna wants to go to the MetroCourt. She says, no. She wants to say hello. She goes over to their table, and Valentin follows. She says Valentin has been telling her how helpful Martin has been in establishing parental rights for Brook’s baby. She doesn’t think she and Cyrus have been formally introduced, and says she’s Anna Devane, Peter’s aunt. Cyrus smiles.

Ava and Nikolas bask in the afterglow, and Nikolas says he needs Ava to believe that he’ll protect the ones he loves; his mother, Alexis, Spencer, especially her. Ava says, her whole life she had to protect herself, and he says she doesn’t have to anymore. He’s here for her, like she’s here for him. If he was in danger, wouldn’t she do everything in her power to save him? She says, in a heartbeat, and they get busy again.

On the phone, Carly tells Bobbie to put the guards on extra alert, and do it without scaring Florence… All right… She loves Bobbie too. The doorbell rings, and she says she has to go. Call her if there are any signs of trouble. She opens the door to Laura, who asks if something happened. There are more guards than usual. Carly says she’s just taking extra care. What did Laura want to see her about? Laura asks what it would take for Carly to surrender Florence, before someone gets hurt.

Cyrus says he’s pleased to finally make Anna’s acquaintance; her reputation precedes her. She tells him, don’t believe everything you hear, Mr. Renault. He tells her to call him Cyrus, if he may call her Anna, and she says, of course (🍷). Cyrus says he hears congratulations are in order. Valentin is going to be a new father again. Valentin says, how about that? Cyrus’s brother takes care of a lot of his interests, and will tell Cyrus that family means a lot to him. Cyrus says, as it does to all of them. Anna tells Valentin that she’s suddenly famished, and they go to their table. Martin asks, what the hell was that? All the pointed looks going back and forth, the least Cyrus could do for his brother is shout duck. Cyrus says, just marking their territory.

Valentin asks if Anna would like to explain that interaction, and she says, sometimes you just have to look your enemy in the eye to figure out your next move. He asks if she has, and she says, most definitely.

Carly asks if Laura has noticed that Port Charles has been fairly calm since Florence started her extended stay with friends, but Laura says, it’s not going to stay that way. Carly knows that already. Carly asks why Laura is saying that, and Laura says she was just talking to her brothers. Since they’re all family now, they feel free to share with her whatever is on their dysfunctional little minds. Carly says, which is? and Laura says, Martin was way too eager to make her believe he’d kept Florence’s location a secret, and Cyrus was too self-assured, even for him. Carly asks if he knows where Florence is, and Laura says she doesn’t think so – not yet – but she thinks Nikolas does.

On the phone, Nikolas asks if they found the find bakery… Excellent. Did they have subsequent orders for Southern desserts?… Bobbie Spencer? She’s the mother of one of the parties involved in Florence’s kidnapping. Does he have an address?… Terrific work, Colonel, thank you. When they arrive at the address, he wants them to establish a parameter, reconnoiter the area, but don’t make a move until he gets there. Understood?  Ava asks if Nikolas found her, and he says he’ll know soon enough. Ava asks why not order Colonel Jackson to take Florence the moment he finds her. Is Nikolas having second thoughts? He asks if he hasn’t convinced her to change her mind, to understand why he’s doing this, and she says, if she tells him that he hasn’t, will he call it off? He says, no, but he’d rather do this with her than without her.

An inmate suddenly plops between Alexis and Maggie, and they get up. Alexis says, it was the combination of a lot of booze and a lot of bad decisions that got her into this lovely location. Maggie says, and a few bad men? and Alexis says, one or two contributed. In the end, it was on her. Maggie says Alexis obviously knows how the parole board thinks. They want to hear inmates take responsibility for their actions, basically saying what they did was wrong, but they learned their lesson. Alexis says, it will be a while before she sees a parole board. What’s crazy is, she chose to plead guilty because she wanted to be accountable for the things she’d done. Not just for other people, but for herself. As naïve and insane as it sounds, after three years, she wants to walk out of this place a better woman. Elda approaches them, and tells Maggie, take a hike. Alexis says, it’s okay. Three’s a crowd. Maggie leaves, and the guard leaves with her. Alexis and Elda face each other.

Nina tells Sonny, thanks, but she’s going to the library to research the early days of Nixon Falls for the article. He says, since they’re both going to the firehouse dance, they should go together. Nina says she’d love to go with him, but Eli already asked her, and she said she’d go with him. He says he’s not surprised Eli beat him to it, and she says she’ll save him a dance. He says there are things she doesn’t know about Eli, and she says there are things Mike/Sonny doesn’t know about himself, and there are things he doesn’t know about her. He says, true, and she asks if he’s trying to tell her something. He says, will she save that dance? and she promises she will.

Sasha thanks Brando for finding her phone, and Gladys tells her, next time, be more careful. She goes to the other side of the room, and Brando says, but not too careful. You might miss out on something good. He apologizes for his mom, but Sasha says, in her own way, Gladys is just trying to look out for him. She has to run, and he asks, who’s looking out for her? She says, she thought he was, calling him Mr. Stalker. He says, so his stalking is welcome now, and she says, maybe because she’ll also be stalking him. Unfortunately, I can see the Twitter reaction now being right up there with Baby, It’s Cold Outside. <heaving a heavy sigh over people being offended too easily and in any context>

Anna tells Valentin, it wasn’t until she was face to face with Cyrus, that she realized they weren’t entirely powerless. He asks if she wants to share what’s on her mind, and she says, poisoning an innocent, and holding on to the antidote for ransom is classic Faison (ha-ha! Faison Classic). It’s appalling, but not surprising that his son would follow his example. What Peter doesn’t realize is, the same tactics that brought down Faison, can bring him down too.

Martin says if Cyrus is grimacing at Anna, he advises him to stop. Cyrus says he’s smiling, and Martin says, Valentin is very protective of Anna, and he’s also very dangerous. Not in the hairy back, knuckle-dragging, let’s-break-their-knees way, familiar to the garden variety simians Cyrus employs. The last place Cyrus wants to be is on Valentin’s bad side. Cyrus says he’s counting on Martin to keep the peace between him and his client. As to Anna, what does Martin know about her? Martin says, he’s an attorney, not one of Peter’s muck-raking journalists, and Cyrus asks if Martin doesn’t find it fascinating. First, Anna was Peter’s mother; now she’s his aunt, and they’re not good terms. Apparently a lot of dirty laundry was spilled at the wedding that didn’t happen. It might prove useful as leverage. Martin says, to who? Against who [sic]? Cyrus’s new friend Peter? Why does he care about the man anyway? Cyrus says he doesn’t. Peter is merely a means to an end. And if it goes well, the end may soon be in sight.

Carly tells Laura, now it makes sense. Now she knows why Cyrus wasn’t upset when she rejected his offer to trade Florence for Jason’s freedom. He already had a plan in place with Nikolas. Laura says, she’s right then. Martin let something slip to Nikolas, so Cyrus is getting his mother back, but through her son. Carly asks if Nikolas doesn’t know he’s walking into a trap. Cyrus has all the power. This is what he does; creates danger, then offers to erase it. Laura says, and before you know it, he owns you, and Carly says, he did the same thing to Julian, and Nikolas is married to Julian’s sister. Can’t Nikolas see where this is headed? Laura says she’s not defending Nikolas, but Carly has taken risks to protect the people she loves. Carly says she knows; they both have. Even if Cyrus keeps his word, and protects Alexis in Pentenville, that’s great for Alexis, but it leaves Jason in an even worse position. Laura says, and it gets Nikolas in even deeper with Cyrus. Carly asks how they stop Nikolas.

Nikolas talks to the Colonel again, and asks if he can overcome the Corinthos guards. Ava tells Nikolas, whatever he decides, she’s with him. He tells the Colonel to wait for his signal.

Alexis tells Elda, crazy weather, huh? Elda asks who Alexis is calling crazy, and pins Alexis against the wall.

On Monday, Curtis asks how bad someone wants to find out, Cyrus wants Martin to celebrate with him, Anna visits Jason, and Elda says she’s going to make sure Alexis remembers. And I don’t think Elda means her birthday.

What I Watched Today

(rambling, random thoughts & annoyingly detailed recaps from real time TV watching)

🏥 As you already know, due to an MLB takeover, General Hospital wasn’t on today, and will return either Friday or Monday.

👁 Tonight Bravo give us Watch with Kelly and Shannon, where the women from RHOC watched the women on RHOBH. It was the episode where Brandi showed up at Dorit’s party, and the group went to see Erika in Chicago, minus Denise and Garcelle. Kelly and Shannon were surprisingly articulate and funny, and seemed to get along pretty well. One of my favorite moments was when Brandi showed up at the party wearing a furry pink jacket, and Kelly just kept repeating, What is Brandi wearing??? She also described Sutton’s dress as looking like she put her grandma’s doilies on it, which was pretty accurate. I still could see me dressing like Sutton in the 80s if I could have afforded it. How many of you are thinking, I watch TV with friends and make funny comments, and I don’t get a paycheck for it? Yeah, me too. Who knew it would end up being a thing.

🏖 She Needs Time Off…

After her daughter’s documentary This Is Paris came out, the only thing Kathy should be interested in is therapy. I think that lady has been stuffing a few emotions for some time. If you haven’t seen it, you can watch it for free on YouTube. It’s well worth watching. If you thought you knew Paris Hilton, you don’t.

👠 Reviewing the Reveal…

My article on Paris Hilton’s documentary. Seriously, forget what you thought you knew.

💎 Keeping the Diamond Warm…

Andy and Kris explain and confirm.

😮 Oh No She Didn’t…

NeNe is just a tad bitter.

☀️ Time To Use That Prime…

I haven’t even gotten around to watching Mrs. Maisel yet, but this looks good.

🔮 It Was In the Cards…

Oh, just give the ring back already.

My favorite from omeedmalek: Just confirmed, debate #2 is just a fist fight in a Chili’s parking lot.

🦞 She’ll Bring the Lobster…

Anything is better than what NYC has now. With every mayor, I think, they can’t do worse. Yet they manage.

🧙🏽‍♀️ Fairytales Can Come True…

Or at least make a comeback. Disney Plus will be streaming Once Upon a Time, but if you can’t access it, TV Guide has some other recommendations for you.

📺 Free For You…

All kinds of ways to watch Schitt’s Creek, which will also marathon from the beginning on Comedy Central, starting Friday, October 2nd, at 8 pm.

Mad Men! My So-Called Life! The Middle! And I highly recommend the U.K. (original) version of Being Human. It aired on BBC America years ago, and the U.S. version paled in comparison. No surprise.

⛅️ Tho We Gotta Say Goodbye To the Summer…

Unless you’re one of the glitterati who got to spend it between your house in the Hamptons and your yacht docked at the Hamptons, I don’t imagine it’s been your favorite summer. Goodbye 4th of July Oceanfest. Goodbye flea market season. Goodbye street festivals. Goodbye county fair. We barely knew ye. Goodbye crowded beaches. Oh, wait. We did have those. Brought to you by the idiots who think only about themselves. Don’t be them. Stay safe, stay kindhearted, and stay not being an idiot. And while you’re at it, don’t take fashion tips from Brandi. Or any other kind of tips.
