General Hospital

Brook asks if Chase wants coffee or to go back to bed, and he says, coffee. He’s meeting his brother, and he doesn’t want to be late. As she pours, she says she’s sure he’ll understand, but Chase says, it’s not like that. He has to be supportive. He has to make sure Finn doesn’t feel guilty or alone or whatever he felt yesterday that had him reaching for a bottle. Brook says, Finn is grieving, okay? And he’s not just grieving the loss of their dad; he’s grieving the time he stayed away. He’s going to feel how he’s going to feel. Chase asks if he should just let him feel it, and she says, there’s no stopping it. He can reach out and offer his support. She knows Finn would really appreciate that.

Alexis opens the door to Finn, and they hug. She says she’s so sorry about his dad, and he says he knows Gregory meant a lot to her. They go inside, and he asks if she just got back. She says, ten minutes ago. She’s glad she got back before he got there because she made some coffee if he wants that. While they’re waiting, they could talk. He asks how things went in Albany, but she says she wants to talk about his dad. She tears up and says she’s so sad. She’s so sad that she missed the wedding. He says, it wasn’t perfect, but it was close. There was a moment when he didn’t think his dad was going to be able to finish the wedding, but Tracy and Violet got him back on track. He willed himself through the rest of the ceremony and it was beautiful. She says she knows how much that would have meant to him. She’s so glad his last day was beautiful. They hug again.

Josslyn meets Trina at the gallery, and Trina thanks her for coming. As soon as Ava gets to the gallery, they can head out and check out those apartment listings. Josslyn says, of course (🍷), but she thought Trina had the day off, and Trina says, all she knows is, Ava called her and wanted her to open up. She said there was an emergency meeting at Crimson.

In Nina’s office, she tells Maxie, these Deception ads are gorgeous, and Maxie says, the camera really loves Blaze. Nina says she can’t wait to run them, when Ava comes in. She tells Maxie, be careful. Integrity isn’t Nina’s strong suit. Not that that’s news. Nina calls to Madison, but Ava says, she’s not at her desk. Madison couldn’t stop her anyway. Nina says, note to self, buy Madison a taser. As Ava can see, they’re busy. So why doesn’t she go out there, make an appointment for the next millennium. She’ll be happy to see Ava then. Ava says, Nina will see her now. Nina broke their deal, and she wants to know why.

Willow opens the gatehouse door to Drew, says, hi, boss, and invites him in. He says he’s not here on business, so she can just call him Mr. Cain, and she says, sir, yes, sir. He laughs and asks if Michael is around. There’s something he wants to run by him. She says, so this isn’t entirely a social call, and he says, not entirely. She says, it was Michael’s turn to run Wiley to school, but he should be back soon if Drew would like to wait. Drew says, happy to, and she says, great. Coffee? He says, always (me too). He needs her opinion on something. She says, about what? and he says, there’s something he wants to run by her, but she’s got to promise not to tell the rest of the Quartermaines.

Josslyn says, for the apartments, location-wise, she’s thinking around PCU, but does that work for Trina? Trina says she doesn’t know. She’s not sure if she’s going back to PCU after her semester off. And if she does, she’s done with dorm life. It reminds her too much of Spencer. Josslyn says she hears Trina there. To be honest, she’s pretty tired of drunk people in their halls at all hours of the day and night, and the cafeteria food. Trina says she’s tired of smelling everybody’s take-out coming through their walls, and Josslyn says, and just the noise of everybody in general. Trina says she doesn’t think Josslyn is in a position to be complaining about other people’s noises when she makes her fair share of noise herself. Josslyn says she did not, and Trina says, right. Because she only made those noises at Dex’s house. Josslyn says, all right. It doesn’t even matter now. Trina asks, when was the last time she ran into Dex? and Josslyn says, at the wedding. Trina says, how was it? and Josslyn says, it was surprisingly good. Trina says her parents told her that it was really beautiful, and Josslyn says, it was. And so was the reception… right up until Sonny attacked Dex.

Nina says she’s not sure what deal Ava is referring to, but she’s more than welcome to forward a copy to her assistant. Ava says, Nina knows very well what deal. Nina promised that she’d devote two pages to the US debut of Harriet Nikia at the gallery. Nina says, now she recalls that discussion. The assistant editor that Ava lobbied, lobbied her, and she had every intention of including it. Ava says, then why isn’t it in here? and Nina says, space. Ava says, space? Does she see the size of this magazine? Nina says, of course (🍷) she sees it. She published it. Ava asks, then how is it possible there isn’t any space? and Nina says, as she told Ava, she had every intention of putting it in the magazine, but in this issue, she had to make space for something a little more timely. Ava says, like what? and Nina says, like an in-depth profile of an exciting new charity initiative that her daughter’s involved in. Ava says, Willow doesn’t even talk to Nina, and Nina says, since she and Ava aren’t friends anymore, how could Ava possibly know what’s going on between her and her daughter? Or a gentleman friend she may or may not be seeing. Ava says, let her guess. She wouldn’t know him, right? He lives in Canada. Nina laughs and says she’d love to stand here and dish with her bestie, but since Ava put a knife in her back, that’s not her. So how about if Ava leaves and reports back to Sonny? Ava says she thinks it’s really sad that Nina’s head trip as queen of Crimson is all she has left in her little life. (The 1960s called. They want head trip back.) She leaves, and Maxie says, that was nice. Nina says, right? She was way out of line. Maxie says, Ava was definitely out of line, but she was talking about Nina. Nina says, her? and Maxie asks why she’d antagonize Ava Jerome like that.

Drew tells Willow that he happens to know Congressman McConkey is not running for reelection next fall. He met with McConkey recently, and McConkey is urging him to run for his seat. Willow says she just wants to make sure she understands. Larry McConkey wants Drew to run for his seat in congress? Drew tells her, that’s what he said. He hasn’t fully wrapped his mind around this yet. She asks if he’s going to do it. He would be perfect.

Finn tells Alexis that he dropped Violet at school. When he got home, he found that his dad had passed in his sleep. He doesn’t think his dad felt any pain. Alexis says, at least that was a blessing, and he says he called 911 and it took forever. While he was waiting, he looked over and he saw this bottle of bourbon, this gift from the Cerullos that they gave to him at the rehearsal dinner, and he was going to give it away. Instead, he drank a third of it. She says, okay, and he says, she doesn’t seem entirely surprised. She says, it’s okay, and he says he keeps asking himself, would he have drunk yesterday if he hadn’t accidentally drunk that glass of champagne the night before? He’s 99% sure he wouldn’t have, but then there’s that 1% of him that isn’t so sure. That’s the part that’s winning. She says, he has to try and look at it objectively, and he says he’ll try. She says, regardless of him slipping the night before, he woke up the next morning and it was tragic; it was heartbreaking. So he has a pretty sympathetic reason to break his sobriety. He says, that doesn’t excuse it, and she takes his hands. She says, forget about excuses, because she’s learned nothing really excuses anything. There’s just explanation and forgiveness, and after everything he’s been through, it can certainly be explained. He says he’s not the only one who’s suffered a difficult loss here. How is she? She asks if he means does she want a drink? Yeah. They laugh, and he says, did she drink? She says, no, and she has no intention of it. He says, neither did he, but here they are, and she says she thinks maybe it’s a two a day meeting thing for a while. He says he was at a meeting this morning. That’s why he didn’t pick up when she called. She says, that’s a damn good reason, and he says he drank, but he’s never going to drink again. She says, for now, and he says, yeah, for now. She says, the thing to really remember is, they have each other, and he says, yeah.

Nina says, why is she antagonizing Ava? and Maxie says, yeah. Nina says, maybe it has something to do with Ava saying that she was going to go to bat for her with Sonny and help save her marriage. Then sandbagging her because she wanted to get her claws in Sonny herself. Maxie says, it was awful… and Nina says, Ava implied that if she sold the MetroCourt to Jason, that Sonny would approve of that, knowing full well that Sonny hates Jason now. Maxie asks if Nina regrets selling the MetroCourt, but Nina says, no, and Maxie asks if she regrets signing the divorce papers. Nina says she regrets having to sign them, but she and Sonny were broken beyond repair, and Maxie says, then why take the time to make Ava her enemy? Nina says, Ava becoming her enemy was Ava’s choice, and Maxie says, that woman has a history of murder and mayhem with a touch of poisoning. Nina says, please, who doesn’t? Come on. She doesn’t think she’s in any physical danger. Maxie says, maybe not today, but if Nina keeps this up… Nina asks if Maxie saw the scowl on Ava’s face. That was almost worth the arsenic.

Chase says he’s so sorry, and Brook says, what did she tell him about apologizing? He says, this is how they’re spending her dream honeymoon, and she says, honeymoons are two things. First of all, they’re a vacation. Italy’s not going anywhere. They’ll take that trip later and make up for all the lost time. He says he likes the way she thinks, and she says she knows. He says, what about the other honeymoon? and she says, the other honeymoon is this, everything else forever. She snuggles against him and says, this is her dream. He says, coffee and scones? and she says, being with him through good times and bad, and yes, the coffee and scones are a definite bonus. Is he sure he doesn’t want another one? He says, yes, and she says, if she hasn’t made herself clear, anything she can do for him, them, or their family – if that’s jumping in and helping, giving him time to grieve with Finn, or both – she’ll do it, okay? He says, she’s amazing, and she says she really is, and she loves him so much. He says, ditto.

Diane goes to Alexis’s place and asks how she is. Alexis says, not great. She’s since learned there are greater losses than her law license. Diane says she’s so sorry about Gregory. She knows how important he was to Alexis. Alexis says she called him last night and Chase answered the phone. That’s how she found out. Any word from the Court of Appeals? Diane says, the wheels of bureaucracy do not accelerate to steamroll over you, no matter how much it seems like they want to, and Alexis says, any new insights? Diane says, they stood a really good chance of at least having Alexis’s disbarment examined, if not completely vacated, and Alexis says, and now? Diane says, now it’s clear that her disbarment was motivated by personal animus, no vigilance toward the law, and that animus stemmed from two conspiring sources, Ava Jerome and Fergus Byrne. By the way, she’s going to filing a harassment complaint against Counselor Byrne later on today. Maybe more than one, depending on her mood. Alexis says, if she needs any ammo… Diane says, please, and Alexis says, they had a little run-in at a diner in Albany. Diane tells her, say more, and Alexis says she was just sitting there, minding her own business, drowning her sorrows in a salad, and the avenging angel strolled by. Diane asks what he said, and Alexis tells her, it’s not what he said. It’s what she thinks is true. It’s not about his vengeance. It’s about his guilt, because he was estranged from both his brothers when they died about some inheritance issue. Diane says, interesting. Maybe she can use that. Alexis says, go ahead. If she’s being blamed for destroying two of the Byrne brothers, might as well make it a trifecta. Diane laughs and say she likes the way Alexis thinks, and Alexis wonders why she’s getting all the flack for this anyway. It’s Harmony who killed Neil – in Alexis’s bed – and she shoved his brother Brendan off a cliff. So why is that idiot after her? Diane says, make sure to ask him at his disciplinary hearing. In the meantime, she’s off to General Hospital. She’s going to meet with Gregory’s sons for the reading of his will. Alexis says she’s glad he retained Diane, and Diane says, after she represented the plaintiffs suing his son? Even she was a little surprised. Alexis says, he knew she was just doing her job. And they both know the justice system works best when there’s capable attorneys on each side, and Diane is a capable attorney. Diane’s not as good as she is, but she’s a capable attorney. She’s really glad Gregory retained her. Diane says, Alexis is mentioned in this will. Does she want to attend?

Finn finds Elizabeth in the breakroom, and he tells her that Amy said she’d be in here. Is this okay? She sort of smiles, and he comes in, closing the door behind him. He says he wants to… He needs to apologize. He was wrong and she was right. He never should have spoken to her that way. He has no excuse. He was grieving his father, and he drank to numb the pain. Again, it’s not an excuse, but that’s what happened. But Chase got him through the worst part of it, and he’ll never drink again. He’s already been to one meeting this morning. He just wishes he had the words to explain how sorry he is to her. She thanks him for saying all of that. She knows he means it, and she’s glad he’s doing what he needs to take care of himself. But she hopes he understands that she wasn’t trying to take charge or tell him what to do. She was only thinking about Violet and how she just found out she’d lost her grandfather forever, and she needed to put Violet first. He says he understands, and she says, good. Because he didn’t seem to yesterday. (Um… didn’t he just explain all that?)

Brook says, it’s funny, she didn’t think this was a thing, but now that she and Chase are married, she feels different. Chase says, in what way? and she says, it’s kind of hard to explain. You know when you’ve been away for a while, and you finally come home and crash in your own bed? He says, oh yeah, and she says, it’s like that, but everything is better. Even the bed is better, and somehow, you love everything even more. It’s like your capacity to love has leveled up in a way you didn’t even know was possible. And here you are. Here we are. We’re home. We belong and we’ll always belong, because the person we belong with is always by our side. And it’s not like some huge, major revelation. It’s just like remembering something we always knew, but now we won’t forget. He says, because here we are, and she says, because here we are, and they kiss.

Trina asks Josslyn if Dex is okay. Is he going to press charges? How is she feeling? Josslyn says she’s pissed off. She’s been so angry with Sonny for so long, it’s like she’s permanently stuck like this. Trina says she hears Josslyn. So is Dex… Josslyn says she took him to the ER, and they had to wait there all night because he needed stitches. Trina says, Dex needed stitches? and Josslyn says, it could have been a lot worse had Jason not been there to pull Sonny off of him. Ava walks in and says, Josslyn more than anybody should know better than to spread gossip, but Josslyn says, it’s not gossip. She was there. Ava says, she saw Sonny hit Dex? and Josslyn says, no, but she saw Dex right after. Ava says, so she didn’t see anything, and yet… Josslyn says, and yet, Kristina saw everything, and she was very freaked out by it. Ava says, and how far along is Kristina? What they wouldn’t know is that, when you’re pregnant, sometimes the littlest thing can freak you out. (I don’t think total delusion is a symptom of pregnancy.) Josslyn says, this was not a little thing, and Ava says, what they do know by now is that, when men drink, they fight. And she’s sure this encounter between Dex and Sonny wouldn’t have escalated if Jason hadn’t insinuated himself… Trina says, this conversation isn’t going to get anywhere, so maybe they should just end it here. They have those apartments to go see. Josslyn says, Trina is so right, and she shouldn’t argue with Trina’s boss, who wasn’t actually at the reception – she can’t imagine why Ava wasn’t invited – and couldn’t possibly know what actually happened.

Alexis says she’s not going to go to the reading. She thinks that’s for Finn and Chase. Diane says she’s sure they’d welcome her, but Alexis says, besides, she has to pay a visit to a certain gallery owner. Diane says, give Ava hell, and Alexis says, anyway, she thinks she knows what Gregory would like her to do from his will. Diane says, Alexis can guess, but she can neither confirm nor deny until after the will is read, and Alexis says, he wants her to be literary executor and she’s proud and happy to do it. Diane laughs and says she had a feeling Alexis would be, and Alexis says she really wishes she could have gone to the wedding – they both tear up – and seen him in his proudest and finest moments. She just really never thought it would be his last.

Elizabeth says, Violet should be Finn’s first concern, but yesterday, he made it seem like Violet was something that belonged to him, that she shouldn’t take. Instead of a little girl who just lost her grandfather and probably needed reassurance. Not only has Elizabeth never seen that side of him before, she honestly didn’t think he was capable of it. He says, she’ll never see that side of him again, and he wants to thank her for looking out for his daughter. His phone dings and he says he’s sorry. Chase is here. She asks if Chase is okay, and Finn says, Diane Miller is coming by his office to read his father’s will.

Maxie says, there’s a subtle, but clear… Nina says, who does Ava think she is, telling her that she doesn’t have a life? She’s literally a trendsetter. Maxie says, the question is… Nina says, Ava hangs paintings on a wall. She dictates fashion. Maxie says, it’s more like how much space… Nina says, the woman doesn’t even have a place to live. She’s imposing on the father of her child, a man who will never ever love her. Maxie gets up and says, okay. Since they’re obviously never going to talk about the ads, which is the actual reason for this meeting… She opens the door and Nina asks what she’s doing. What was she saying? Maxie closes the door again and tells Nina that it’s too late for what she was saying. Nina really needs to get this out of her system. Who was the gentleman friend she mentioned to Ava? Nina says, Maxie knows, and Maxie says, yeah, but she was hoping she was wrong. Nina and Drew are still… whatever? Nina says, he’s no gentleman and he’s certainly not a friend, but they have a good thing going. Maxie says, he’s her boss, but Nina says, it doesn’t hurt business. Maxie says, and they don’t like each other? and Nina says, that definitely doesn’t hurt business. Maxie asks if the sex can really be that good.

Drew says, it’s a huge decision. It’s going to affect everybody he cares about. Willow says, but he wants to do it, right? He’s going to run for McConkey’s seat. He says he didn’t even take it seriously at first. He thought McConkey was kidding when he brought it up, but the more he thinks about it, he sees the upside. Willow seems to think it’s a good idea. She says, no. She thinks it’s a great idea. He says, but it’s crazy, right? It’s nuts. Would he even have a shot? She says, absolutely. The government needs people like him. He says, really? People with no previous government experience? Because that typically doesn’t work out very good. She says, it does when those people are unselfish and open-minded. When they get involved to try and make life better for people. He says, those people typically stay out of politics, and she says, that’s exactly why we need more of them in politics. And if he doesn’t mind her saying so, she thinks it would do him good. He says, how so? and she says, he was in a very dark place for a while. She knows he’s made it out the other side, but that darkness stays with him. He says, and she thinks him running for public office is going to cure whatever’s ailing him, and she says she thinks being in office, making a difference, won’t cure it, but it will help. It’s why she loved being a schoolteacher and why she’s going to love being a spokesperson for the New Tomorrow Institute. Raising awareness for the need for bone marrow donors will make a difference. It will help make people’s lives better, or it will help them live at all. And she’ll get to make that happen because he offered her the chance to. He says he’s very glad he did, and she says she promises she won’t say a word to anyone else about him possibly running for congress, but she really hopes he’ll do it.

Finn meets Chase outside his office, and they hug. They go inside, and Finn asks how Chase is this morning. Chase says he’s okay, all things considered. How is Finn? Finn says he didn’t sleep much. He ended up sitting in dad’s room half the night. He guesses trying to feel close to him. He didn’t drink again. In fact, he went to an AA meeting this morning. Chase says, good. He’s glad Finn is doing what he’s got to do. Just so Finn knows, Chase isn’t checking up on him. Finn says, why not? and Chase says, because he trusts Finn to take care of himself and Violet.

Alexis walks into the gallery, and Ava says, good morning. Is she shopping for herself or somebody else? Alexis says, no. She just got back from Albany. She met an old friend of Ava’s. Ava asks, how? She doesn’t know anybody in Albany. Alexis says, sure she does. Fergus Byrne. Ava thinks a moment and says, any relation to those other two Byrnes whose lives Alexis destroyed? Alexis says, actually, it was Harmony Miller who destroyed their lives, but yes. He’s their brother. Of course (🍷) Ava already knows that because she hired him to get Alexis disbarred. Ava says she remembers him now. How’s he doing? She imagines he’s having a very, very good day. Alexis says, what she’s really curious about is why Ava chose to be anonymous. She would think Ava would be thrilled at the thought of Alexis knowing she was responsible for the implosion of her career and her life. Ava says, no. Alexis is responsible for that, but she was more than happy to help. Will that be all?

Diane reads, I, Gregory Chase, being of sound mind and unsound body, etcetera, etcetera. Just so they know, in addition to the regular legalese, he actual wrote out etcetera, etcetera. The first order of business I suppose is to name my executor, and that would be my son, Harrison Chase. Chase says, wait. What? Diane says, he’s responsible for seeing his father’s wishes are followed, and Finn nods at Chase. Chase asks, what are his wishes? and Diane says, brief and clear. Just take a breath. Don’t worry. If he needs any advice, she’s always here to help. He thanks her and says he’ll take her up on that. She continues, while Harrison will be the executor of my estate, I also name Alexis Davis as my literary executor. As for my rather modest estate, it is to be divided equally between my two sons, Harrison and Hamilton, with the exception of my library, which I leave to my brilliant, imaginative granddaughter Violet, to enjoy when she is ready. Chase says, she’s going to love that, and Finn agrees. Diane reads, finally, I request that my body be cremated. Rather than a church ceremony and a burial, I want an open-air memorial with my family and closest friends gathered to witness the scattering of my ashes near my favorite tree in the park. Violet knows which one. Chase gets up as Diane continues, I want my family to focus on life, not death; the sky and the world around you, not a hole in the ground. In setting my body and spirit free in the air, I can happily return to the earth which has been so generous to me. Finn says, that’s what dad wanted, and Chase says, that’s what we’ll do.

Nina says she’s not talking about sex. That’s really not part of it anymore. Maxie says, oh no. Is Nina developing feelings for Drew? Nina says, what? God. No. Maxie tells her, you know what they say about protesting too much? She’s the literal illustration right now. Nina says, no. It’s just that somehow the frenemies with benefits really did have benefits. Because of Drew, she’s back on speaking terms with Willow. Maxie says, okay. What’s he getting out of it? Nina looks at her, and Maxie says, what else is he getting out of it? Nina says she got Drew a meeting with Congressman McConkey on this big urban renewal project Aurora is working on with the city. They’re actually like business partners sort of. Maxie says she still has to ask. What is Nina going to do if temptation arises again? Nina says, don’t worry. For her, Drew Cain is the opposite of irresistible. Maxie says, if that were the case, why does Nina not keep resisting him?

Alexis asks why Ava would go out of her way to destroy her career, and Ava says, it wasn’t out of her way at all. And as to why, Alexis knew Ava’s brother loved her very much and she used that against him over and over again, leading him on, drawing him in, only to cast him aside. It didn’t matter that he saved Alexis’s life, more than once. Or that he dragged her out after she ran him over with her car while out on a bender. Alexis says, actually, she was on a bender after being manipulated by Julian to defend Carlos Rivera, who he then murdered. Which Ava’s bestie, Fergus, described in glorious detail to the court. Ava says she wishes she could have seen that. So Alexis is still blaming Julian for all her failings. Alexis says, no. She’s blaming Ava for getting her disbarred. Ava says she sees. So here Alexis is, standing in her gallery, blaming her, even though Alexis committed perjury. Did Ava call the bar with her statement? Yeah. Did she tell them Alexis committed perjury? Yeah, which Alexis did. So don’t blame her. Blame herself.

Drew says, the more he thinks about the idea of public service, the more he likes it, but the campaign could get nasty. He was in prison not too long ago for insider trading. Willow says, which he owned up to. And now he’s seen firsthand what prisons are like, so he can campaign on reform. He’s paid his debt to society, which appeals to those who value accountability. He’s an ex-Navy SEAL, which appeals to the military minded. He’s already shown a commitment to the public good, which appeals to McConkey’s base. He says, wow. Will she be his campaign manager? She says she’s a little busy, and he says, really? She’s fired. They laugh, and she says she loves the sound of that – Congressman Cain. He tells her, McConkey had something to say about that too, and thanks her. This is way more than he could have hoped for. She says, he can thank her by agreeing to run.

Elizabeth knocks at Finn’s office door and says she thought he’d still be here, even though he’s not working today. He says he figured since he was here anyway, he’d catch up on some paperwork. Maybe it would keep his mind off… things. She asks if it’s working, and he says, nah. What’s she got there? Dropping off x-rays? Isn’t that beneath the head nurse’s paygrade? She says she’s never too busy to help the people she loves, and he thanks her for that. She asks how the reading of his dad’s will went, and Finn says, he left all his books to Violet. She says, sounds like him, and he says, instead of a funeral, he wants his ashes scattered in an open-air memorial. She says, that sounds beautiful. And if he doesn’t mind her asking… He says, ask him anything, and she says, when’s his next meeting? He says, in about an hour, and she asks if he wants her to pick up Violet from school. Is she even at school? He says, yeah. He didn’t want to disrupt her schedule and she insisted that’s what her grandpa would want. She’s probably right. Elizabeth says, consider it done, and he thanks her. He’s sure Violet will love that. She says she should get back to work, and he says, him too, and she leaves.

Brook asks, how’d the reading go? and Chase says, good. His dad made him executor. She says, what an honor, and he says he always thought it would go to Finn, since he’s the oldest, but it’s almost like his dad knew Finn would be struggling and shouldn’t be burdened. She says, or maybe his dad just thought he could be trusted to take care of things, and he says he guesses that’s a possibility, and she asks how he’s feeling with everything. He says, better. He’s glad that he has one more thing that he can do for his dad. Now he just has to not let him down, or anybody. She tells him to stop putting so much pressure on himself, and he says, not only does he have to carry out his father’s wishes, but he has to worry about Finn and Violet after they get done with this. Brook says, it’s so awful that he doesn’t have anybody by his side to help him through all this… Oh, wait. He says, there you are, and she says, here I am. Don’t you forget it. She kisses him.

Ava asks if Alexis even saw the affidavit she signed, and Alexis says, yes. Ava says, was there even anything in there that wasn’t true? and Alexis says, nope. Ava says, then what in God’s name is she objecting to? Alexis says she’s objecting to Ava’s cruelty. Ava has only two ways of dealing with adversity. Just two. She either deflects blame or she inflicts harm. Ava says, her brother would be alive today if he hadn’t been on the receiving end of what Alexis calls love. She’s got nothing to apologize for. Alexis says, she means nothing she’s been caught and prosecuted for… yet. Which makes her miss being able to practice law that much more. But license or not, Ava is going to regret making that complaint. Alexis walks out.

Tomorrow, Drew asks, what makes Willow think he can do this; Blaze says she owes someone an apology; Spinelli tells Maxie that he respectfully and regretfully declines; and Sam says she believes Kristina will do the right thing, even at a cost to Sonny.

What I Watched Today

(rambling, random thoughts & annoyingly detailed recaps from real time TV watching)

General Hospital

Jason waits in the interrogation room when Sam walks in and sits across from him. Because, like the hospital, the PCPD plays fast and loose with security.

Danny opens the door to the boathouse and sees it’s empty. Jake asks if he’s looking for something.

Trina finds Josslyn at the courthouse and says, she went looking for her at the dorm. When she saw Josslyn wasn’t in their room, she figured she’d find her here. Josslyn says, it’s nice to hear Trina call it their room, even though she’s not living there right now. Trina asks if it’s okay if she sits, and Josslyn says, of course (🍷). Is she here to make sure Jason gets the book thrown at him? Trina says she’s actually not here for Jason. She’s here for Josslyn.

In the courtroom, Molly goes through her documents and drops them. She starts to pick them up, when Kristina comes in and helps. Molly says she wasn’t sure if she’d see Kristina today, but Kristina says, is Molly kidding her? A chance to support her sister. Molly is looking the part. Molly says, at least she’s got that going for her, and Kristina says, and a million other things. Don’t sell herself short. Molly says she thinks she’s shaking, and Kristina takes her hand and says, breathe. It has to be tough, prosecuting someone who means so much to her. Molly says, tough would be a cakewalk. This feels nearly impossible.

Sam asks if Jason did it. Did he shoot Dante? He says, no, and she says she believes him. He says, there’s something else. It’s about Danny. She says, what about Danny? and he says, after he was shot, he hid out at the boathouse and Danny found him. She says, so he’s seen Danny? and he says, yeah. Danny helped him. He got a first aid kit from the main house and brought it down to the boathouse. She says she’s a little confused. Why didn’t Danny tell her that he saw Jason? He says he told Danny not to.

Danny asks if Aiden’s here too, but Jake says, he’s up at the main house. Danny says, why? and Jake says, why is Aiden at the main house or why are they here? Danny says, the second one, and Jake says, his mom figured if they’re all staying home to see the arraignment, they might as well all stay together. But he assumes it will go pretty quickly. They’ll see dad shot Dante, they’ll decide he’s guilty, and he won’t be granted bail. Danny says, first of all, that’s not how arraignments work. Second of all, what makes him so sure that dad’s guilty?

Molly tells Kristina, her main job today is to remain impartial. How is she supposed to argue that Jason is some awful murderer after all the history they have together? His years with Sam. He’s Danny’s father. How does she do that? Kristina says, that’s the other reason she’s here, and Molly says she thought Kristina was here for moral support. Kristina says, of course (🍷) she is. That’s what she’s here for first and foremost. Also, Molly can’t give in to her soft spot for Jason. He’s guilty. Molly asks, says who? and Kristina says, her father for starters. She saw him the last couple of times she visited Dante, and he didn’t want to believe it at first, but there’s evidence linking Jason to the warehouse shooting. So obviously, Dante followed him and that’s when Jason shot him. Molly asks if it’s obvious to Sonny or Kristina, because it certainly isn’t obvious to the police or to the DA’s office or to her personally. Kristina asks why they’d be charging Jason if they didn’t think he did it, and Molly says, there is reasonable suspicion and supporting evidence that Jason shot Dante. But there was also another unidentified individual present, and they’re not sure what part they played, so nothing is obvious. And let’s not forget, in our legal system, the defendant is innocent until proven guilty, no matter what Sonny thinks. Kristina says, that’s exactly what she was afraid of, and Molly says, what? Kristina says, Molly doesn’t want Jason to be guilty so she’s scrambling to come up with a scenario where he’s not. But as hard as this is going to be – and she knows this is going to be hard for Molly – she has to check her feelings at the door and do her job. (Are they having two different conversations?)

On the phone, Anna asks what Portia’s professional opinion is… She knows she’s not family, but she’s really worried… Okay. She appreciates that. She thanks Portia for the update and says she’ll call her back. Dex comes in, and she asks him to close the door. He does and asks if that was about Dante. How is he? She says, he’s the same, and Dex says, his family must be going out of their minds. Anna says, waiting is a special kind of torture. She appreciates him coming in. He says he assumes this is about their last conversation. He figured once she thought about it, she’d change her mind about pursuing a case against Sonny, and he’ll still testify against Sonny if that’s what she’s wondering. No matter what it costs. She says, even if it costs him his life?

Anna says, Sonny has resources. He would know Dex intended to testify against him before Dex even took the stand. Dex asks if that’s where she comes in. Is she going to offer him some kind of protection? She says she can authorize that, but it wouldn’t guarantee his safety because Sonny has a way of getting around everything. Dex says, he does, and she says, there’s Witness Protection, but from what she understands, he wants to stay in town. He asks where that leaves him, and she says, not in a courtroom, that’s for sure. She does not want him testifying. He says he doesn’t understand. If she doesn’t want him to testify, what is he doing here? She says, a thought occurred to her, a way he can ensure his own safety. He says he’s listening, and she says, he comes to work for her at the PCPD.

Josslyn and Trina both say, I’m sorry, and Trina says, jinx. Josslyn can’t talk until she says her name… That was a joke… Josslyn. They both laugh, and Josslyn says, clearly, she takes her jinx very seriously. Trina says, obviously, but for real, she is sorry. She was a total B and Josslyn didn’t deserve it. Josslyn says she kind of did deserve it, and Trina asks, why? Josslyn says, of course (🍷) she’s very relieved and happy Jason is alive, but she does really think he’s innocent. That’s her and how she feels, and Trina is more than entitled to feel differently about it. She’s really sorry if she acted like Trina wasn’t. Trina says, apology accepted, and Josslyn says, back at her. Trina tells her that she will say, her attitude wasn’t entirely about Jason being a suspect in her father’s shooting, and Josslyn says, what was it? Trina says she was… still is having a hard time with the unfairness that Jason got to come back, while Spencer’s still gone.

Molly says, thank you so much, and Kristina says she’s getting the sense Molly doesn’t mean that. Molly says she just doesn’t need Kristina coming in here moments before the arraignment to tell her something that not only she already knows, but she’s struggling with in real time. Because it’s so nice to be Kristina, right? With her advice and her nuggets of wisdom, sitting all cozy in the back of the courthouse, while Molly actually has to make the argument why somebody she loves and respects and probably has an explanation for what he did, shouldn’t make bail. Kristina says, that’s a valid point, multiple points actually, and Molly thanks her. Kristina says, Molly is an excellent lawyer. She’s also the most ethical person Kristina knows. She’s sorry. She should have just kept her mouth shut. Molly says, it wouldn’t really track for her, and Kristina says, true. Molly wonders if she can ask Kristina a question. Since when is she so anti-Jason?

Jake tells Danny not to be naïve, and Danny asks what that even means. Jake says, of course (🍷) he’s guilty. The guy took off. Danny says, now he’s the guy? and Jake says, he made them all think he was dead, then came back and shot Dante. If Danny’s waiting for him to be proven innocent, he’ll be waiting forever. Danny says he doesn’t know any of that, and Jake says, Danny doesn’t know dad left them or that they had a memorial service for him? Danny says, that’s the story Jake told himself. Unless Jake’s talked to him, or the police. Did they fill Jake in on all the evidence they’ve collected? Jake says, don’t be stupid, but Danny says, he’s the one being stupid. He’s mad at dad. Danny gets it. So Jake wants him to be guilty. Rocco comes along, and Jake says he doesn’t want any of this. Danny lives with Dante. He’s the best. He’s always fun. He’s always joking around and always has time for everybody. Now he’s lying in a hospital bed because their father put him there. Rocco tells them to stop, and Danny says he loves Dante and Rocco is like a brother to him. He’s barely left the hospital to get updates on his dad. Rocco asks if they can please… Jake asks if Danny is telling Rocco that their dad is innocent, like he doesn’t have enough to deal with already. Obviously, Danny doesn’t care about Dante or Rocco. Danny says, that’s messed up. How does he believing their dad is innocent make him not care about Rocco or Dante? Jake asks why he isn’t mad at Jason, and Danny asks why Jake isn’t giving him the benefit of the doubt. Jake says, because he doesn’t deserve it, and Danny punches him in the face. (Sorry, I thought it was Rocco in the  preview. They look interchangeable.)

Sam says, just so she’s getting this straight, Jason told their son not to tell her that he’d seen him? And he was helping Jason? Jason says, yes, and Sam says she’s Danny’s mother. She’s been raising their son on her own for most of his life. What the hell is wrong with him? Danny is just a kid, a kid that has issues. Jason asks what she means. What kind of issues? She says, don’t do that. Don’t pretend to be a father to him now. She gets up and says, he disappeared, leaving her to pick up the pieces and put their son’s life back together. And she did that, by the way. He doesn’t get to just some out of the sky out of nowhere and tell their son to lie to her, to keep secrets from her, and use him because he’s in trouble. Putting him in a situation where he… My God. Danny could be brought up on federal charges. That is their baby she’s been protecting. Say something. Don’t just sit there. Tell her that he knows she’s right about all of it. He says, she’s right, and she says, he is a danger to their son. Does he hear her? Stay the hell away from Danny. She walks out and the Jason sigh is back.

Dex says, Anna wants him to join the PCPD? and she says, don’t look so shocked. She happens to think that this is inspired. He says, until very recently, he was working on the inside of Sonny’s organization, doing all kinds of illegal things on his orders. She says, exactly. That’s what makes him an asset. He says he almost murdered an old man on Sonny’s orders, and she says she knows it’s hard for him to wrap his head around it. When Mayor Collins offered her this position again, she felt like her past disqualitfied her somehow, but now she realizes the best cops are the ones who know how easy it is to go wrong, because they’ve been there themselves. He says, so it’s fine he’s no better than the criminals she’s trying to put away, and she says, it’s more than fine. She thinks it’s a bonus.

Trina says, this all sounds so irrational, but Josslyn says, not to her. Trina says, every morning, she wakes up and the first thing she thinks is, it’s all a nightmare and Spencer’s still here. And today’s the day she’ll get that call, that they made a mistake and Spencer’s fine. And to see that scenario playing out for Josslyn and her mom and everyone that loves Jason… Josslyn says she knows. Trina wants that to happen for Spencer. It’s okay, he’s just chilling with Netflix. Trina says, so badly, and Josslyn says she’s so sorry. For her, it was different. She knew that Oscar’s death was coming, but she understands. Trina says she knows Josslyn does, and Josslyn says, that kind of grief consumes you. Trina says, and she can’t get out from under it, and Josslyn says, she will. One day, eventually, her time with Spencer, those memories will make her smile. It’s not going to break her heart anymore. Trina says she doesn’t know if she’s there yet, and Josslyn says, no one expects her to be there. Trina says she just misses him so much, in a way she didn’t even know you could miss people. And she feels like she’s gone too. Josslyn says, she very understandably lost her way for a bit, but she’s going to find her way back. Trina says, what if she doesn’t? and Josslyn says, then Trina can reach out her hand and she’ll take it, and they’ll make it through together.

Kristina says she’s not anti-Jason, and Molly says, she’s certainly not pro. Kristina says she guesses she’s not. Don’t look so surprised. Molly says she is. Kristina was literally drugged and five minutes away from being tattooed and sexually assaulted, when Jason carried her out of Dawn of Day. Kristina says she knows and she’ll forever grateful to Jason and to Sam for getting her away from Shiloh. But they don’t know what’s happened in the last couple of years. Jason could be a totally different person now, and the evidence is pointing in that direction. Molly says, evidence is subject to interpretation. That’s the whole point of the trial. The prosecution interprets it one way and the defense interprets it another. Kristina says, and the evidence shows Jason was there when Dante was shot, and Molly says, so just because Sonny believes Jason shot Dante, Kristina believes it too. Kristina says, for her father to go against Jason is a big deal and Molly knows that. So she’s inclined to believe him. Molly tells her to be careful who she talks like this around, and Kristina asks what she’s talking about. Molly says, Danny, their nephew. She knows she has to have a talk with him after today, explain that she’s just doing her job. Kristina can believe whatever she wants, but Jason is still Danny’s father. Kristina says, please. Dante has been more of a father than Jason has been or ever will be.

Diane goes into the interrogation room and tells Jason that she saw Sam leaving. She’d ask how that went, but she hates talking to herself. Let’s focus on your case. They have a hero cop in the hospital on life support, and chances are getting smaller and smaller every day that he’ll wake up to exonerate Jason. They have a DA with a working and perfectly reasonable theory that Jason shot said cop without realizing who he was. Then Jason realized it and tried to save him. Too little too late. Jason knows that’s not true. She knows that’s not true. So how do they get the rest of the world on board? Give her something she can use. Does he have an alibi? Is there a timeline? Is there someone she can call who will say, nope, Jason didn’t shoot Dante? Is there anything he can give her. Please. He says he can’t.

Rocco and Jake continue to fight, while Rocco continues to shout at them to stop. Jake knocks Danny down with a punch, and Rocco says, they’re family. They can’t do this to each other. Jake says he can’t with this, and walks off. Rocco says he’s really sorry and runs after Jake. Danny lies down on the deck.

Josslyn asks Trina to tell her something about their time together in Paris, and Trina says, like what? Josslyn says, anything. After Oscar died, nobody wanted to talk to her about him. Probably because they didn’t want to upset her, but she felt the opposite. She wanted to talk about him and wanted to relive their times together. Trina says, yes. That’s the perfect way to describe it. Josslyn says, so tell her something about Paris, and Trina says, it’s the happiest she’s ever been. Josslyn says she bets Spencer would say the same, and Trina says she thinks so too. Josslyn says, it doesn’t get more romantic than the City of Lights, and Trina says, no, it was more than that. Their ease at being together. They found the perfect rhythm with paradise as their backdrop. She felt more like herself in Paris with Spencer than she ever has before. Josslyn says, it sounds so special, and Trina says, it was, until it wasn’t. Josslyn suggests staying with the was, and Trina says, okay. Josslyn says she’s so grateful Trina got that time with him and that the time with him was so incredibly special. Trina says she’s grateful too, and Josslyn hugs her.

Dex says, Anna seems to be under the impression that he needs this job, and she says, doesn’t he? He says he’s ex-military. He’s been through his share of close calls and here he is, still standing. She says, he’s just been at the police station twice in two days, not clandestinely either. He says, so? and she says, so what makes him think that Sonny doesn’t already suspect him of being a turncoat? It’s fine. If he wants to go it alone, he’s welcome to, but she feels that the PCPD could offer him some cover. Think about it. He says he will, and goes to the door. She says, don’t take too long. Time is not on his side.

Molly tells Kristina that she keeps remembering when they decorated Sam and Jason’s apartment for Valentine’s Day. She hasn’t thought about it in years, but she can remember it like it was yesterday. Kristina wonders if they can really call that decorating. More like an absolute flooding of Valentine’s Day bling all over that place. Molly says, come on. It was beautiful. Kristina says, it was. It was also pink. A little red, but a lot of pink. Kristina says, so not Jason’s style. Candles and flowers. But it was Jason’s fault. Kristina says, it totally was. He gave them an insane budget to work with and they were so young. Of course (🍷) they were going to go full out. Molly says she just remembers thinking it was the most romantic thing he did for Sam, and Kristina says, it was romantic. It was also a really long time ago. Things change. People change. Molly says, how much? and Kristina says, a lot sometimes. She thinks Molly needs to face the fact that the Jason who came home might not be the Jason they remember. Molly says, okay. She’ll consider the possibility if Kristina considers the possibility that maybe, just maybe, she’s got this all wrong.

Jason says he wishes he could give Diane what she needs, but he can’t, and she says, they’ve known each other a long time, haven’t they? He says, they have, and she says she’s sure he’s recognized that very often she makes things sound worse than they are, so she looks like even more of a genius when she pulls off a victory at the end. But this is not that case. If Dante dies, it’s murder one. That’s as bad as it gets. The state of New York doesn’t have a death penalty, but if he’s convicted, he’ll spend the rest of his life in prison. He’s her favorite client. Difficult in his own way, absolutely, but she’d hate to see him get put away for life for something he didn’t do, especially since they just got him back. So if there’s anything at all that can help her help him – anything – he’s got her number. She leaves.

Brook comes through the revolving door to the interrogation room, and Jason says, Brook Lynn. She says, surprise. She’s guessing she’s not who he expected to see here. He says, not really, no, and she says she knows the desk sergeant. He let her in. She’s soon to be marrying one of the detectives. She sits down, and he says, congratulations. She thanks him and says she’s sorry. She doesn’t know why this is so awkward. She’s usually so good at small talk, but it’s tripping her up for some reason. He says, why doesn’t she just start with why she’s here? She says, Monica asked if she could come. She wanted Brook to give him this. She slides an envelope across the table, and he sees his name written on it.

Sam goes to the boathouse and says, Jake told her that she’d find Danny here. Danny asks if he said anything else, and she says, he just looked a little worse for the wear. She sees his face and says, ouch. Does it hurt? He says, not really, and she asks why he’d get in a fight with his brother. (Like that never happens.) He says, Jake kept saying dad was guilty and it really pissed him off, and she says she just saw him. He says, dad? and she says, yeah. He told her that he was here, and Danny was helping him. He says, she’s mad, and she says she’s furious, but not at him. What his father did was completely unfair. It’s not his fault he did what his father asked him to do, but he’s to never do that again, okay? He says, mom… but she says, ever. He says he wanted to help his dad, and she says she’s sure he did. Danny says, it’s not like dad asked him to rob a bank or anything. He just needed some bandages, so Danny got him a first aid kit. She says, listen to her. A, Jason involved him in a situation where he’s wanted by the FBI and the PCPD. And B – this is the worst part for her – he told Danny to lie to her, to keep a secret from her. It’s not okay under any circumstances, but when there are criminal charges flying around… She never thought she would actually say this about his father, but that did it for her. Any trust between her and Jason has been broken.

Anna comes into her office to find Robert there. She asks if they had a meeting, and he asks if a man has to make an appointment to meet with his ex-wife these days. She says, when he’s the DA and his ex-wife is the Commissioner. She has a lot on her plate these days. He says, why doesn’t she try delegating sometime? and she says, it’s okay. What is this about? He says he’ll be quick. He’s here to make a confession. She asks what he’s confessing to, and he says he’s a big, fat coward.

Molly says she doesn’t want to fight about this, and Kristina asks if Molly thinks she does. Molly says she wishes Kristina was less focused on the arraignment and more focused on her health, and Kristina says, she means the baby’s health. Molly asks if they’re not the same thing. Stress of any kind is not good for a pregnancy. So if Kristina really came to support her – Kristina says she did – then the best thing she can do is just go home. Kristina says she sees. Is that an order, ADA Lansing-Davis?

Trina thanks Josslyn, and Josslyn says, for what? Trina says, being a best friend when she knows Josslyn could use one right now, and Josslyn says she’s fine. Trina says, liar. What’s going on between her and Dex? Josslyn says, not much, and Trina asks if they’ve spoken since they broke up, but Josslyn says, no. He’s called her a few times, but she’s not ready to talk to him. Trina says, what about Josslyn? She still doesn’t know what happened, although she has the impression that it has something to do with Dex working for Sonny. Josslyn says, yes, it does, and that’s all she can say about it without compromising him. Trina says, then she must still care for him, and Josslyn says, of course (🍷) she does. She thinks she always will, but she also feels like she never really knew him. Trina says she’s sorry. That’s a horrible feeling. Josslyn says, anyway, she’s fine. She loves Trina for showing up here, but she doesn’t need to stay. Trina says she has nothing better to do. She lives at home and she’s not in school. Josslyn says, she has the gallery, and Trina says, but not today. So she doesn’t mind staying a little longer and hanging out. On second thought – Josslyn turns around and Dex is there – she thinks Josslyn should spend some time alone. Josslyn and Dex soap look at each other.

Trina says, so thanks for the talk. She’ll call Josslyn later. Josslyn thanks her, and Trina leaves, smiling at Dex as she passes him. Dex says, hi, and Josslyn says, hi. What is he doing here? He says he had an appointment, and she says, really? In the Hall of Justice complex? With whom? He asks if she got his messages, and she says, nice dodge. Yeah, she got them. He says he didn’t like how they left things, and she says, speaking of leaving, she thought he left town. He says, thought or hoped? He’s really sorry he let her down. She asks why he’s still here in Port Charles, and he says he thinks he was just given a reason to stay.

Molly says she knows better than to issue Kristina an order and she’s sorry. She didn’t mean to imply Kristina was putting the baby at risk. She knows Kristina never would. Just like Kristina knows she would never let her personal feelings influence her work. Kristina laughs and says, well played, sister. Molly says, if Kristina doesn’t mind, she has a little bit of time left, and she would like to prepare her argument against releasing Jason on bail. Not because of anything Kristina said, but because it’s her civic duty.

Robert says, Anna knows it’s Jason Morgan’s arraignment today, and she says she thought he told her that this wasn’t going to take up too much of her time. He says, it won’t. Normally, it would be up to him to argue against bail, but in this particular case, he thought he’d let Molly Lansing-Davis do it. She says, so he doesn’t look like the bad guy in Robin’s eyes. He’s going to let his ADA do his dirty work because he’s scared of his daughter. He says, that’s it in a nutshell, yeah, and she says she envies him. He says, she does? and she says she doesn’t have the luxury of not investigating Jason. Sadly, that is not an option for her, but it is an option for him, and she wholly supports him taking it. He says, it doesn’t bother her that he’s a coward for ducking out on the arraignment? and she says she thinks he’s a wonderful coward… She means, father.

Jason picks up the envelope, and asks if Monica is sick or hurt, and Brook says, both, but she’s okay. He knows how that driveway is; it always gets so icy. Monica took a pretty bad fall right before Christmas. She’s been in a wheelchair ever since, but she’s still considering going to work. He says, sounds like her, and Brook says, she picked up a bug at the hospital. Nothing serious, but the doctors don’t want her to push herself or she would be at the arraignment. He opens the envelope and takes out a handwritten note: Jason, I believe in you. Love, Mom. An officer comes in and says, ten minutes and he really needs to get the prisoner downstairs, and Brook thanks him. She tells Jason, good luck at the arraignment, and goes to the door. Wiping his eyes, Jason says, tell her that he loves her and he’s sorry, and Brook says, he’s got it.

Sam comes out of the boathouse with something in a plastic bag and tells Danny that she found this in the freezer. She has him hold it against his head and he says, thanks. How’s Dante? She says, no change, and he asks if she thinks… She says, what is it? Say something. He says, nothing, but she says, it’s obviously something. Talk to her. He says, Dante knows he loves him, right? and she says, yes. Of course (🍷) he does. He says, and that he really appreciates Dante and sees everything Dante does for him? She says, yeah. Why would he think Dante wouldn’t? He says he doesn’t know. Just making sure. She says she’s so sorry, and he says, for what? She says, his father coming home and being alive should be the most wonderful, amazing experience, not this. She doesn’t know if she’s changed or Jason’s changed or she’s never been able to see him clearly, but it’s just become obvious to her that she can’t rely on him to protect Danny and have his best interests at heart. She just wants him to know that she’s his mother and she’ll do everything in her power to keep him safe. And she loves him so much. He says he loves her too, and she takes his hand. She says, they’re going to get through this together because they have each other. She hugs him and says, he’s never going to have to see his dad again, okay? But from the look on his face, it’s not okay.

Tomorrow, Sam needs Portia to stop something from happening; Carly wants to know what Michael isn’t telling her; Josslyn tells Kristina that her father is wrong about everything; and Sonny says he doesn’t owe Jason anything.

🐶 Doggy Style…

I’m well aware I’m late to the party here. I’d wanted to see Strays when it was playing at the movie theater, but didn’t get the chance. Being caught up in several series on Netflix, I put it off when it came to Prime, but I recently watched it and I loved it so much. It has more crude language than a Quentin Tarantino film, but hearing it come out of the mouths of dogs, cats, and an eagle, makes it hysterically funny somehow. It’s now going to be on constant rotation for me, because it’s also one of those movies that left me smiling without taking me on a trip to the cornfield. I don’t need a Friday the 13th ending, but the worst is a horror film that has a Hallmark ending or ends up being a PSA for the environment. (Yes, I’m talking to you Mother! That’s 2 hours and 1 minute I will never get back.) Besides causing me to literally lol, Strays has a stellar cast, a heartfelt message, and of course, dogs.

General Hospital

In bed with Drew, Carly says, she thought this was going to be a horrible New Year’s Eve, that she was going to be spending it all by herself, but here he is. She must be dreaming. He says, it’s no dream; it’s real. She says, no way. She must still be asleep. This is too good to be true. He says, let him convince her that he’s really here, and they kiss.

TempSam (see below) and Dante stand on the terrace watching the fireworks. Dante says, and just like that, it is 2024, and Sam says, time goes so fast. She’s sorry their plans got stalled tonight. He says, is she kidding? It wouldn’t be any fun at The Savoy knowing Scout’s at home sick with a sitter. Besides, does she really want to get dressed up and celebrate with a bunch of people? Because he doesn’t. He’d rather celebrate it right here. She says, he really doesn’t mind? and he says he really doesn’t. He’s right where he wants to be. She says she is too, and they kiss. He picks her up and carries her inside.

Brook and Chase go into the Quartermaine mansion, and Brook says, let’s make it quick. Get in and get out. They make a beeline for the living room.

At Pier 54, Michael’s phone rings. He asks Willow if everything’s okay. She’s supposed to be here for the fireworks. She says, everything’s fine, but she got held up, and asks where he is now. He says he’s at the pier. The fireworks are almost over. Does she want to meet at The Savoy? She says, sounds good. She’ll see him there. Ned and Olivia arrive at the pier, and Olivia asks Michael if Sonny’s here, but Michael says he hasn’t seen Sonny. Olivia says, Lois didn’t make it back here either, and Ned says, maybe they’re still at the club. Olivia says, they have to get back there – now.

In her office, Nina fingers her engagement ring, and flashes back to marrying Sonny. She remembers him telling her that he loves her and always will. She says she has to tell Sonny, and gathers up her stuff. She opens the door and Willow is there.

Sonny asks, who’s lying to him? and Lois says she’s sorry she has to be the one to tell him, because they’ve been friends for a really long… He says, she hasn’t told him anything yet, and she says she knows who really ratted out Carly and Drew to the SEC. And his family knows too.

Carrying in a bottle of champagne, Brook tells Chase that they’re going to ring in the new year with the good stuff. He says, all right. Come on. Let’s go. He heads for the door, but she sits down, and he asks what she’s doing. He thought their plan was to get it and get out before anybody else shows up. She pops the cork and says, too late. The cork’s out of the bottle. He knows her motto: It’s better to ask for forgiveness than ask for permission. He says, or they could not get on Ned’s bad side, and she says, look at him, trying to score points with his future father-in-law. Trust her. Dad will get over it. He says, there was champagne at the club, and she says, it was great to see Blaze perform, but that place was a dive bar. It is a well-respected dive bar where many a future rock star has appeared. It was a solid booking. He says, and Blaze did amazing, and Brook says, she did, but that champagne was swill. He says he wouldn’t know; he stuck to the ginger ale. She says, good for him. She has to cleanse her palate. And tonight is their first New Year’s Eve as an engaged couple. What’s a more special occasion than that? His phone dings, he looks at it, and says, whoa.

Dante and Sam kiss, when Scout walks in. She says she had a bad dream.

Drew and Carly clink champagne glasses and kiss. She says, if this is any indication of what’s going to happen in 2024, this is going to be a damn good year, and he tells her that he couldn’t have said it better himself. She says, he just got off a plan from Australia. Isn’t he jet lagged? He asks if he seems jet lagged. He is a little hungry though. She says she has tons of food in the kitchen. She can make him something. He says, if she doesn’t mind, he’ll take the lead on that. He knows how she is in the kitchen. She tells him that her kids say she makes the best brownies on the planet, and he says, those brownies from the box are really good, and they get out of bed.

Nina invites Willow in, and Willow says she took a chance that Nina would still be here. She remembers Nina mentioning she had to work New Year’s Eve. She’s sorry. Did she catch Nina on her way out? Nina says, she’s just in time, but she thought Willow would be at the New Year’s Eve party at The Savoy with Michael. Willow says, that was the plan, but then it hit a snag… Really. She shows Nina a rip in her dress, and says she got dressed at the hospital. She decided to check on a patient before she left, and her dress got caught on the door. She thought Nina could maybe help her out. Nina says, of course (🍷) she can.

Sonny says he doesn’t know why Lois is making a big deal about this. He knows Ned turned Carly and Drew in to the SEC. So what? She says, it wasn’t Ned. He’s been letting everyone believe it was him because it works to his advantage. He says, why would it work to Ned’s advantage? Why would he take the fall? Maybe she misunderstood what she heard. She says, no. Trust her. She’s the only one with her head on straight. If he doesn’t believe her, ask his son. Michael comes in with Ned and Olivia.

Chase says, it’s his dad, and Brook says, oh no. Did he get hurt? Is he at the hospital? He says, just the opposite. His dad sent photos of him skydiving. She says, what? and he says, how crazy is this? showing her the photos. She says, look at Gregory smiling; he’s so happy. Chase says, he really is. The way he looks in this photo is how his dad is to him. That’s who he was when Chase was growing up. He thought when his dad started using a cane, he’d never see him like this again. He’s really happy that his dad can jump out of an airplane. She asks, what’s wrong? and he says, it’s just that, before the ALS, it would never have occurred to his dad to go skydiving. He’s really making the most of the time he has left.

Dante hands Scout a glass, and says, when he was little and not feeling well, his mom always gave him ginger ale and that did the trick. Sam asks if Scout wants to tell her about the dream, and Scout says she had a dream about going to her new school. The teacher was a monster. She tried to get away, but she couldn’t. It was too fast. Sam holds her and says, it’s okay. She doesn’t have to go to that school if she doesn’t want to. Scout says, daddy will get mad at her, but Sam promises he won’t. Because she and Scout’s father just want what’s best for her. Scout says she thought they told her that school was the best, and Sam says, it’s a good school, but the best school is the one where Scout feels comfortable, and she enjoys learning. Scout says, so she doesn’t have to go? and Sam asks if that’s what she wants. Scout nods and says she wants to stay with her friends. Sam says, then no, she doesn’t have to go, and Scout thanks her.

Drew says, that hit the spot. Carly has to thank Josslyn for the leftovers. Carly asks what he’s talking about. Her name wasn’t on that box. He asks if they were hers, and she says, no. He says, Donna’s? The moss bowl’s🎍? and she says, no. He says he rests his case. If she complains about it, tell her that he owes her a yummy meal. She says, okay, and hands him a glass of champagne. He asks if they’re toasting the New Year, but she says, no. They already did that. They’re toasting his return. They clink glasses and kiss, and Carly asks, what happened? She thought he was extending his stay so he could negotiate more joint ventures. He says he got a little impatient with some of the board members in the company he was dealing with. He wasn’t quite as skillful as he thought he’d be. He figured it would be best to let a colleague finish the deal. She says, Drew Cain lost his patience, and he says, it was more like he kind of got out of there before he lost his patience and blew up the deal altogether. She says, wow. That’s not like him at all.

Michael asks, what’s going on? and Sonny says, that’s what he’d like to know. Lois says she told Sonny that it wasn’t Ned who pointed the SEC at Drew and Carly, and Olivia says, stop it. Lois says, he deserved to know. Michael, Olivia, and Ned (who Lois seems to think is Sonny’s whole family) know who’s really responsible. Olivia looks like she has a migraine, and Ned says, Lois is right. He didn’t go to the SEC. He wouldn’t hurt Carly that way. Sonny says, what about Drew? and Ned says, he and Drew have had their issues, but he’d never expose Drew to Federal scrutiny. Olivia says, Ned is telling the truth. He’s not the one who tipped off the SEC. Sonny says, Michael is very quiet over there. Is what Lois is saying true? Did Michael keep this from him? Michael flashes back to almost telling Sonny, but deciding not to, and Sonny saying, Michael can come to him with anything. Michael says, yeah. He did.

Chase tells Brook that he’s not going to keep bringing their whole night down. He’s not a doctor. His dad could be around for a long time. Brook says, okay, and hands him a glass of champagne. To her incredible fiancé, the best man she knows. They clink glasses and drink, then kiss. She says, okay, it’s his turn to toast something amazing about her. He says he doesn’t know what he’d toast about her, and she says, thank you. He says, there’s just so much. He wouldn’t know where to start. But he’ll start with her beauty, her kind heart, and her generous spirit. She’s wildly talented, and the way she makes him feel like he can do anything. So he’s toasting to all of the above. He loves her. She says she loves him too, and they’re about to kiss when his phone rings. She says, he really has to turn that off, but he answers, Detective Chase… No, they were right to call him. He’ll be right there. He says he’s sorry; he has to go. She asks if everything is all right, and he says, police business. He kisses her and leaves. She drinks down her champagne and picks up his glass, saying, no sense in wasting good champagne.

Sam says she just checked on Scout, and she’s out like a light. Dante says, poor kid. She’s really stressed out about this school. She says, it’s heartbreaking to be so afraid of changing schools and feel like she couldn’t say anything about it. He agrees and asks what she’s going to do, but she says she doesn’t know. She didn’t press the issue with Drew because she thought Scout was warming up to the idea of going to Westwood. Really, she was just saying what she thought he wanted to hear. Dante says, it’s tough. You want to get them out of their comfort zone so they can grow, but at the same time, you’ve got to respect their feelings. She says, yes, and that’s what she’s doing now. When Drew first brought the idea of Scout going to Westwood to her, she was totally worried about Scout going there; transferring her away from her friends at her current school, and right in the middle of the school year. Now that she sees how upset Scout is, she’s not going to make her go. He says he respects her position and her decision, but how does she think Drew’s going to react?

Drew asks if Carly thinks there’s something about the New Year that makes you want to make changes in your life, but she says she’s not good at New Year’s resolutions. If she makes a big, sweeping change, it usually blows up in her face and she backslides by February. The moss bowl🎍considers all the resolutions Carly has broken, and Drew says he just had a lot of time to think about things when he was in Australia. Some things he’s happy with, and some things he’s not. She says, like what? and he says he just kind of fell into a role he’s not comfortable with. He was just so grateful to be home after being held overseas that he fell into this role of peacekeeper with the Quartermaines. He felt it was his duty to get along with everybody, to calm the waters at ELQ, and that’s just not working for him anymore. Where was Ned’s loyalty to him? Ned’s the reason he got sent back to prison. She says she understands what he’s saying about Ned, and she agrees with him, but the rest… She loves how kind and generous and forgiving he is. He tells her that he’s just saying he’s not a choirboy. He’s a grown man and he’s got his limits. And he’s got an extended family that knows how to play dirty. Where has that forgiving nature got him other than months in Pentenville?

Sonny says, Michael knew? and Olivia says she thinks they’ve done enough damage for one night, looking at Lois. Lois says she hopes Sonny knows she only wanted to help, and Ned suggests they give Sonny and Michael some privacy. He leaves with Olivia and Lois, and Michael says he’s sorry, but Sonny says he doesn’t want to hear Michael’s apologies. Why didn’t Michael come to him as soon as he found out who turned Carly and Drew in? Michael says, there’s no clear-cut answer… and Sonny says, it’s very simple. Just tell him the truth. Michael says, it was best for everyone involved if Ned took the fall, and in the end, Ned agreed. Sonny asks why he would do that, and Michael says, because they made a business arrangement that worked out in Ned’s favor. Sonny says, it works out for Ned, yeah. He wheeled and dealed, and Michael kept his mom in the dark? Michael says he thought it best for everyone, including Sonny, and Sonny asks how lying is best for him. Michael says, because sometimes the truth can do more damage than a lie, and Sonny asks how long he’s known. Michael says, since October. He found out right after Sonny and Nina got married.

Willow comes out in a new dress – black, sparkly, sleeveless, and low cut – and Nina says, she looks lovely. Willow says, Nina’s Crimson closet of dresses sure came in handy. What does Nina think? Is this a good look for New Year’s Eve? Nina says, it’s almost perfect. She needs a necklace. Nina takes off the one she’s wearing and says, take hers, putting it on Willow. Yes. Much better. Willow says, this is so generous. Thank you. Nina says, anything for her, and Willow takes Nina’s hand, saying, she knew she could count on Nina. Nina’s eyes fill up with tears, and Willow asks, what’s wrong?

Sam tells Dante that Drew is just going to have to accept the fact Scout isn’t going to Westwood Academy, because this is about what’s best for their daughter, not what he wants. Dante says, he’s a reasonable guy. He’s going to understand Sam’s decision, and if he doesn’t, he’ll come around to it when he hears her side. She says she knows. He’s a terrific dad. She just thinks she’s going about this all wrong. He says, how so? and she says, isn’t she doing what Drew did? Making a unilateral decision without consulting the other parent? He saw how upset Scout was. She doesn’t know what else she’s supposed to do.

Carly says, they haven’t talked much about Drew’s time in Pentenville, and he asks, what is there to talk about? She says, for one thing, he’s different. She noticed a change when he got out. He’s coming down much harder on Ned, whereas before, he would have tried to keep peace in the family. He asks if that’s unreasonable, but she tells him that she didn’t say unreasonable; she said different. There’s the whole situation with Scout’s school. He asks if Sam told her that he got Scout into Westwood Academy, and she says, Sam told her that he announced it to her and Scout, without any discussion. He says, she’s going to have a lot more opportunities at that school than the one she’s at now, and Carly tells him that she’s not saying if it’s good or bad if Scout goes to that school. He asks what she is saying, and she tells him that she’s saying she loves him, and she’s concerned about him. He says, because he wants his daughter to go to an excellent school? and she says, because he went through hell, and it’s changed him. She just wants him to know that whatever he’s going through, he doesn’t have to carry it alone. She’s here.

Nina says, it’s nothing, and Willow says she knows they’re still figuring out their relationship, but she hopes one day they get to the point where they’re able to tell each other anything. Nina says she does too. She needs to tell Willow something… Looking at Willow, she’s reminded how they were robbed of the moments they didn’t get. Brushing Willow’s hair before school, looking at a million pictures from Willow’s prom, and helping her pick out her wedding dress. The list goes on. She was so happy when she found out she was pregnant, and she dreamed about all the things she would do if she had a daughter, and she had a daughter. But they never got to do those things. Willow says, the important thing is that they have each other now – she takes Nina’s hands – and there will be many more moments for them in the future.

I don’t know about you, but I feel sick.

Brook is about to leave, when Ned, Olivia, and Lois come in. Olivia asks what she’s doing here, and Brook says she was picking something up. Ned asks, how was Blaze’s show? and Brook says, it was great. She was phenomenal. Everybody loved her. She’s going to be a star. Lois says she thought Brook was spending tonight with her fiancé, and Brook says, they were. Chase got called into work. How was their night? Olivia says, Brook can direct that question to her mother, and Brook asks Lois if something happened. Lois says she’s sorry, but she and Olivia need to talk, privately. She steers Olivia into the living room and closes the door. Brook says, obviously, something happened, and asks Ned to tell her everything.

Lois says she knows Olivia is upset, and Olivia says, damn right she’s upset. What the hell was Lois thinking? Lois says she was thinking that Sonny is her good friend, and Olivia says, well, congratulations. She just ruined her good friend Sonny’s life.

Sonny says, Michael has known for over two months who tipped off the SEC about Carly and Drew? and Michael says, yeah. Sonny says, so Michael is telling him that he found out after his wedding. Michael knew how important it was for Sonny to have him at the wedding. So the whole reconciliation is a lie? Michael says, he loves Sonny. That’s not it… Sonny says, Michael loves him. So why didn’t Michael tell him the truth? Michael says he tried. He went to Sonny to tell him, and Sonny was just so happy, the happiest he’s seen Sonny in a long time, and Michael didn’t want to take that away from him. He also thought if he told Sonny the truth, something might be broken, maybe between them. Sonny says, Michael knows he loves him. He would never let anything be broken between them. Michael says that he knew if the truth came out, it would hurt Sonny more than anyone else.

Carly takes Drew’s hand and says, if he wants to leave what happened at Pentenville in the past, that’s fine. She just wants him to know that she loves him. She’s here for him, and if he ever needs her, all he has to do is ask. He says he just wants her to know that he hears her and appreciates her. He hugs her and tells her that he appreciates everything she’s saying so much. Just knowing she loves him and is here for him is all he needs. She says, if he changes his mind, ever, that’s okay, and he promises if he ever needs any support, he’ll come to her. Now what does she say he gets in the living room and makes a nice fire? They can finish that bottle of champagne and make some New Year’s resolutions they can actually keep. She says, like what? and he says, like taking long walks together. Like leaving their phones at home. She says she could do that, and he says, like Saturday morning donuts, and she says she could really do that. He says, like spending way less time with business when they could be in bed, and she says, these are some resolutions she can definitely get behind. They kiss, and he says he’s going to get started on that fire. He leaves, and she says, he’s definitely going to be okay. Her phone rings, and since the moss bowl🎍doesn’t answer phones, she picks it up.

Sam tells Dante that this is all relatively new to her. She’s basically been a single parent to both Scout and Danny, and she’s used to making all the big decisions on her own. He tells her that he’d say she’s done an awesome job because she has two awesome kids, and she thanks him. She says, when Drew first came back to Port Charles, they were basically in lockstep on how to parent Scout, until he came back from Pentenville. Dante says, maybe he’s just trying to put it behind him too fast. He knows he did the same thing. Drew probably wants to prove to himself and to Scout that he’s a good dad. What better way to prove that than to get your kid into some elite school? She says, but why not come to her first, so they could talk it over and see if it was appropriate for her? She knows Westwood is just one decision, but it’s a big one, and there are going to be so many more, bigger decisions the older she gets. He says, right. That’s why they have to get on the same page now, so down the line, they can make these decisions together. She says, right, but she just told Scout that she didn’t have to go to the school, without including Drew in the conversation. Did she just make a big mistake?

Lois says, Olivia can’t guilt her. Sonny had a right to know. Olivia says, but she told Lois in confidence, but Lois says, Olivia didn’t tell her anything. She figured it out on her own. Olivia says, whatever. She begged Lois not to say anything because this affects so many more people than just Sonny. Lois says, it affects Ned’s deal with Michael to get control of ELQ, and Olivia says, but it affects more people than just Ned. Since they’re on the subject of Ned, why don’t they talk about Ned? ELQ is his family company. He loves it. It means something to him. Just because Lois can’t stand it, she had no right to mess this up for him. Lois tells Olivia, what can she say? If she sees something, she says something. You know something funny? Olivia used to be the exact same way. Olivia says she thought Lois was her friend, and Lois says, she is Olivia’s friend, but she’s also Sonny’s friend. Olivia says she can’t even trust Lois now. She begged Lois not to say anything, but she had to go run her mouth and ruin everybody’s life. Lois says, the way she sees it, Olivia knows better than anyone what it means to keep secrets from Sonny. Olivia says, wow, and Lois says, Livvy… Olivia says, Lois said what she said because Olivia kept it a secret from Sonny that her child was his son? So that when Dante grows up and becomes a cop and goes undercover, he doesn’t realize he’s going after his father? That when Sonny finds out and doesn’t realize the cop that he’s shooting is his own son? Is that what Lois is talking about? No. Is that what Lois is throwing in her face right now? Her good friend?

Michael says he didn’t want to hurt Sonny, especially after getting him back, but Sonny says, the only way this would hurt him is if the person who turned Carly and Drew in to the SEC is someone he cares about. He knows Michael didn’t do it because Michael wouldn’t do that to his mother. Michael says, it wasn’t him, and Sonny says, so he must have good reason to withhold this information from Carly and Drew. What is it? Michael says, the informant wasn’t close to his mom or Drew, but exposing them would hurt someone else he loves very much. Sonny says, Willow, and Michael nods.

Willow tells Nina, it’s New Year’s Eve. How did they get talking on such a heavy topic? Tonight is all about new beginnings, right? Nina tells her, that’s what people say, and Willow suggests they head over to The Savoy. She thinks they’ve kept their husbands waiting long enough. Nina says, okay, and they get their bags. Willow says she’s not sure what to do with her dress, and Nina says, Crimson has a person that does alterations on the model’s dresses. She can make sure that is as good as new. Willow thanks her and says, that would be amazing. It’s a brand-new dress. She was going to wear it for the first time tonight. It would be great if it didn’t go to waste. Nina says, it just occurred to her that Willow could have gone to the Quartermaines to change, but she came here. Willow says, the Quartermaine house is so far away. Why go all the way home when she has a mother who works in fashion? She thanks Nina again for loaning her the new dress and fixing the old one. It really means a lot to her. Willow hugs Nina, and says, shall we? Nina says, after you, and follows Willow out. She closes the office door and leans against it for a moment, wishing she could cry, then leaves.

Dante says, it seems to him, the only mistake Sam would be making is forcing Scout to go to a school she strongly doesn’t want to go to. Sam says she knows Drew didn’t mean to put her in a rough spot, but Scout did feel like she has to change schools because it’s what he wants. Dante says he thinks Drew is a great dad, but he did put Scout in a rough spot and also put Sam in a tough spot. He thinks Sam should trust her instincts and try to make it right. She thanks him for having her back, and he says, she always has his. That’s what makes them so good together. They kiss, wish each other a Happy New Year, and get busy.

Brook says, let her see if she has this straight. Ned let everyone think it was him who tipped off the SEC about Carly and Drew’s insider trading? He says, actually, he was on his way to tell Drew who was really to blame when he slipped and fell and lost his memory. She says, them when he got his memory back, he made an agreement with Michael to keep quiet in exchange for Michael’s stock proxy? He says, that’s right, and she says, and people wonder why this family scares her sometimes. Olivia bursts out of the living room, and Lois begs her to wait. Olivia asks if Lois has some more helpful advice. Someone else’s secrets that she feels entitled to announce to the entire world? Lois says she went too far, and she knows it, and Olivia cries and says, the night Sonny shot Dante was her worst nightmare coming true. That moment haunts every quiet corner in her mind. Just tell her. How long has Lois had that locked and loaded and ready to throw in her face? Olivia runs outside, and Lois calls after her. Ned follows Olivia out, and Brook asks Lois, what did she do? Lois says she opened her big mouth, and she may have started the new year by losing her oldest friend.

Sonny says, what about Willow? and Michael says, Drew’s out of Pentenville. Mom’s happy running Kelly’s. She and Drew are happy together. Please, let this go. Sonny says he doesn’t want to hear that. Who is it? Nina and Willow come down the stairs, and Sonny asks again, who is it? Who turned his mom and Drew in to the SEC? Michael says, it was Nina, and Sonny turns around to see her.

Carly looks stunned, when Drew comes back and says, the fire’s lit… She stares at her phone, and he goes over to her, asking, what is it? She says, it was the embassy in Amsterdam. My mom’s dead.

Geez, can this day in Port Charles get any worse?

There was no preview. Just the full credits with Deck the Halls sung in the background. Which seems weird since we’re past New Year’s Day.

Biggest revelation – if we want to call it that – Jen gave Heather the black eye. But there weren’t any details. I want details. I kind of liked Monica after half-watching this season, and don’t think she’s necessarily the bad guy. She just suffers from the same boredom and lust for screen time that all the other Housewives do. And here’s a thought. If things are dark, dirty, and scandalous, don’t do them. Because Monica was right about one thing, nothing stays in the dark forever. Not in today’s society.

While I don’t do resolutions, I’m honestly rethinking watching any of the Housewives more than peripherally. They seem to start off with promise, but slide downhill faster than my local K-Mart did when it was new. I had the Salt Lakers on while I was doing something else, and there were so many bleeps I couldn’t even hear the conversation. While I was raised by a sailor and enjoy a colorful adjective, come on. These are adults with children and jobs… sort of. It just boggles my mind that they act like age five to middle school on any given day. Dropping huge bombs and grilling people on personal issues at parties or group dinners, who does that? And the mean girl ganging up that happens, like on RHOBH. While that behavior should never be acceptable, if you’re doing it after college, what are you doing? Go sit in the corner. I’ll get off the soapbox now, but they all might be reduced to a link next season. Here’s the salt.

I can’t understand how they missed The Littlest Groom. I watched about half of one episode and couldn’t stomach the voyeuristic nature of the show. Since it was yanked off the air pretty quickly, I’m guessing other viewers felt the same.

What I Watched Today

General Hospital

Gladys struggles with Cody and tells him to let her go. He says he asked her not to touch him, when Sasha stabs him in the side with a knife from the bar. He touches the wound and sees blood on his hand, while Sasha holds the bloody knife. He says, Sasha… why? and drops to his knees. She sees Cyrus asking her, why, Sasha? and Maxie runs over along with a pool guy. Maxie says, everything is okay, and tells Sasha to drop the knife, but Sasha says, stay away. Cody/Cyrus says, please, Sasha, but she says, no. Stay away.

At Bernadino’s, Ava taps her plate with a knife, and Austin takes it out of her hand. He says, if she’s worried about anything that’s going to happen, just know he’s here with her. She says, everyone in this place knows he’s here with her after that ridiculous display he put on yesterday. He says, anyone with eyes would know he wants her. Just so she knows, their attraction to one another might save their lives. Nina approaches the table with Sonny and asks if they’re sure they want a double date.

Esme is in the visitor room at Pentenville when Cyrus approaches her. She says she thinks he may have the wrong visitor, but he says, on the contrary. She’s exactly who he wanted to see. He sits down.

Molly says she was just leaving, but Kristina tells her not to. She’ll go. Sam says, no one is going anywhere – she closes the door – until the two of them talk.

Trina asks why they were made to leave Curtis’s room, and Portia says, it’s just protocol. She needs the room to be able to do her job. Marshall says, TJ is on his way, and Trina says, Curtis seemed so out of it just now. Is that normal? Is he going to be able to talk when they remove the tube from his mouth? Please tell her that he’s going to be okay.

Maxie tells everyone to get back, and tells Sasha, just drop the knife, but Sasha says she can’t let him hurt anyone else. Cody looks at his blood-covered hand, and Cyrus says, you’re going to have to do better than that. She lunges at him with the knife.

Nina and Sonny sit down, and Nina says she was just trying to find out some information on Curtis’s condition. Ava asks how he is, but Sonny says, they haven’t heard yet. Ava says she just feels so badly for Trina. She’s just now getting to know him as her father. Austin says, it’s probably really difficult for Portia and TJ, and Sonny says, it sounds like Austin is pretty close to his colleagues. Austin says, at GH? They were very welcoming to him. Sonny says, was Britt? He remembers seeing Austin at the memorial. Austin says he and Britt were friends, and Sonny says, from what he heard, Britt trusted him. Austin says, she did. He’s starting to think maybe Sonny doesn’t.

Sam says, it’s clear Kristina and Molly have very different points of view here, but neither of them are actually listening to each other, so it’s not going to help. She suggests Molly tell Kristina a little bit of what they were talking about today, and Kristina will listen. Then Kristina will tell Molly exactly what she was thinking when she suggested she’d be a good surrogate for Molly and TJ’s baby. Kristina says, that’s lovely, but she tried, and Sam says, try again.

The nurse tells Portia that Curtis is off the ventilator and his vitals are stable. She’s paged Dr. Barnsdall. Portia thanks her, and Trina asks if they can see him. The nurse says, yes, but only two at a time. She leaves, and Portia suggests Marshall and Trina go first. Trina and Marshall go into Curtis’s room, and Spencer says, that’s great news, but Portia says, he’s not out of the woods just yet. He says, what the nurse told them about his vitals is a good thing, right? Curtis has family here with him, and he’s heard having people around who love you can make a big difference. He promises he’s not going to let his family connections harm Trina or her family ever again. TJ comes around the corner, and Portia asks if Spencer thinks that’s really a promise he can keep.

Marshall tells Curtis, welcome back. Is he okay? Does he need anything? Trina lingers by the door, and Curtis says he needs… Marshall asks, what? and Curtis says, his daughter.

Esme asks if she knows Cyrus, and he says, no, but he knows who she is. Sorry. Who she was. He read everything there is to know about her early time in Port Charles. She had quite the journey. Clearly, she’s no longer the young lady who first came to town. She says she wishes other people would see it that way, Mr. … He says, Renault. Please call him Cyrus. Maybe he can see her for who she is now because he’s a fellow pilgrim on the same journey, trying to change hearts and minds. She says, if he’s in some kind of religious thing, she doesn’t… He says he’s not trying to convert her, but he thinks they face the same dilemma. They were on the wrong path before, and now that they’ve changed, people are skeptical of their sincerity. Esme says, exactly. People tell her that she’s done all these terrible things and look at her like she’s as horrible as her mother and father. He says he completely understands. His family suffered because of their connection to him and his sordid past. He wants it to end. That’s why he sought her out. She says she doesn’t understand, and he says, her blessed child is a part of his family.

Maxie crouches down by Cody, and tells Sasha to stop, but Sasha says, Maxie doesn’t understand. She can’t let him hurt anyone else. Maxie says, Cody hasn’t hurt anybody, and Sasha says, Cody. Suddenly, Cyrus turns back into Cody, and Sasha says, no, it was Cyrus. She saw Cyrus. She sees the knife in her hand and drops it, hyperventilating as she backs away. Gladys runs to her, and Maxie says, call 9-1-1, as Cody keels over. Sasha says, oh my God, over and over.

Alyse films with her phone as the paramedics put Cody on a stretcher, and Sasha says, how could she do that to Cody? Gladys says, it’s going to be okay, and Maxie says she knows Sasha didn’t mean to hurt him. Sasha says she would never, and Gladys says, none of this is her fault. Maxie says, Gladys is going to stay with her. She needs to handle something. She leaves, and Sasha asks, what’s wrong with her? Why did she do that? Gladys tells her, don’t worry. It’s going to be okay. They’ll fix everything. Sasha wonders what Brando would say, and Detective Bennet (remember him?) says, Sasha Corbin? She asks, how is Cody? and he says, in bad shape. From what he was told, she’s responsible. The paramedics take Cody away.

Sam takes Kristina and Molly’s hands and says, no matter how mad they get, how much they fight, they love each other. They’re sisters. That’s never going to change. Now talk. Please. She walks away, but Kristina says, Sam… Sam says, please, and Kristina says, okay. She’ll admit she’s not always the most self-aware person, but when she thought of offering to be a surrogate, it’s only because she wanted to help Molly, and TJ. Molly says she might have overreacted at the hospital, but she’s still trying to deal with the fact they can’t have a baby. Then Curtis got shot and almost died, and it was all too much. Kristina says she gets that, and she was trying to be sympathetic and sensitive, but Molly lashed out at her with so much anger and hatred. Sam’s phone rings, and she says she has to get this. You two talk. She leaves, and Kristina says, Molly told her that she always tries to make herself the center of attention. Is that really how Molly sees her? Molly says she was hurt and upset, and wanted to hurt Kristina, and Kristina asks, why?

Sam says, Dante’s not here, and asks Maxie, what’s up? Maxie says she’s at the MetroCourt pool. Cody has been stabbed. Sam says, what?

Curtis asks, what happened? and Trina says, he doesn’t remember? Curtis shakes his head, and Marshall says, he was shot. Curtis says, who? and Marshall says, the PCPD is trying to figure that out. Trina says, they think the bullet wasn’t meant for Curtis, and Curtis says, any leads? Marshall says, he’s a patient, not a cop. Trina says, mom will tie him to this bed herself if he tries to help with the investigation, and he asks, where’s Portia?

TJ asks, how’s Uncle Curtis? and Portia says, his vitals are stable. Trina and Marshall are in with him right now. Only two people at a time. TJ asks if Dr. Barnsdall knows Curtis regained consciousness, and she says, he’s been paged. TJ was in the operating room with Curtis and knows there were complications. What if there are residual effects?

Sonny says, who Ava spends time with is her business. Who Avery spends time with is his business. Nina tells Austin that she thinks what Sonny is trying to say is, they’d like the opportunity to get to know him better. Austin says, absolutely. It’s not a problem. Ava has been very clear about how much Sonny loves Avery, so it’s only natural he’d want to get to know any man who’s potentially in her mother’s life. Sonny says he appreciates that. Does Austin have anything to do with Ava wanting to look for a new nanny for Avery? Ava says, no, absolutely not. Pilar has been negligent lately. Avery’s well-being is her only concern. He asks if she’s started looking, when a man approaches the table, and says, Dr. Gatlin-Holt. Austin says, he is? and the man says, Gordon Stevens. He was a patient of Austin’s. Austin says, nice to see him again, and Gordon says, maybe not so nice when Austin hears what he has to say.

Esme says she should have realized; he’s a Cassadine. Cyrus says, no. Thankfully, he’s not. Any transgression he’s committed pales in comparison to that family. He’s the only fallen angel in his lineage. His siblings are absolutely above reproach. She has firsthand knowledge of his sister’s fine character. She says, his sister? and he says, her son’s grandmother, Mayor Laura Collins? She’s his beloved sister, which makes little Ace his family. Heather is suddenly there, and tells him, never say that name again. She’s the only family her daughter and grandson need.

Molly says, Kristina knew how important it was for her to have TJ’s baby. Her own body betrayed her. Does Kristina know what that feels like? What it’s like to know she’s letting TJ down? How it feels when no degree of focus and hard work can accomplish a dream she’s longed for? Sam comes out and says she has to go. Kristina asks if everything is okay, and Sam says she hopes so. There’s ice cream in the freezer; take their pick. She runs out.

Trina asks if Curtis wants her to send Portia in, and he tells her, go eat. Get some rest. She says, someone told her that he’d want her to take care of herself, and he says, someone smart. She says she’s so glad he’s back, and leaves. Marshall asks if Curtis is feeling okay, and Curtis says he feels strange. Like something happened. Marshall says, the doctors almost lost him in the operating room, and Curtis says, that explains it. Marshall says, explains what? and Curtis says, why he was with mom and Tommy.

Cyrus says, they were just making conversation, and Heather says, make it somewhere else. Her daughter’s here to see her. He says, she might want to be more punctual, and Heather laughs. He says he hopes he and Esme get to do this again sometime, and leaves. Heather takes his seat, and tells Esme that she should never talk to other inmates, especially Cyrus. He’s dangerous. Esme says, not like her? and Heather says she was so thrilled when they told her that Esme wanted to see her. She looks beautiful. Motherhood becomes her. Ace must be so big now. Does she have any pictures? Esme says, no. She can’t believe she’s actually here. She swore to herself that she’d never let Heather see her again, or meet Ace. Heather says she understands. She made a couple of mistakes. But Esme’s given her a second chance. Esme says, that’s not why she’s here. She still thinks Heather is the same vile, reprehensible person, but Heather is the only one who can give her the information she needs. Heather says she’d do anything for Esme, and Esme asks why Heather abandoned her.

Ava says, perhaps Gordon didn’t notice they’re having lunch here. Maybe he could find a more appropriate time to discuss whatever health concerns he has. Gordon says, apologies, but what he needs is immediate attention right now. Getting up, Austin says, it’s not a problem. Why don’t they find a place where they can chat? Please excuse them. The price of doing business as a doctor; always on call. He leaves with Gordon, and Ava says, the nerve of that guy, interrupting us like that. Nina says she guesses they’re both involved with men who are in high demand, and Sonny says, Nina always comes first with him because they have no secrets. What about Ava and Austin? Any secrets?

An officer gives Bennet the knife in an evidence bag, and Bennet tells Sasha that she’s being charged with assault with a deadly weapon. She’d better hope he makes it. She says she would never hurt Cody, and Maxie tells Gordon that Sasha doesn’t belong in jail. He can see she’s not well. He says he knows Maxie was married to a good cop. So she can see how convenient this act is. Maxie says, it’s not an act, and goes over to Sasha’s bag. She takes a prescription bottle out, and hands it to Bennet, saying, he can see she’s on antidepressants, and he knows what effect they can have on people. Alyse joins them, and says, it’s true. Sasha Gilmore has a very well-documented history of mental breaks following the death of her infant son. He says, and she knows this because? Alyse says she was just interviewing Sasha for Crimson about her recovery. Gladys guides Sasha over, and Bennet says, she lost her baby? Sasha says, Liam… He left us… Then Brando. He asks, who’s Brando? (Oh come on. He doesn’t read the paper?) Gladys says her son and Sasha’s husband; her dead husband.

Austin and Gordon walk out to the back alley, and Austin says, what was that? He can’t just do that. He can’t just confront Austin in a restaurant. Gordon says, take it up with his cousin. Mason gave him no choice. Austin asks, what’s Mason done now? and Gordon says, it’s what he hasn’t done. He hasn’t paid for Gordon’s services.

Ava says, so Sonny and Nina have no secrets. That’s got to be a first for Sonny. She and Austin like a little mystery. Sonny asks if that means she doesn’t know much about the guy, and Nina says, that’s not what Ava said. Sonny says he just wants to know Austin can handle himself. That Gordon guy seemed a bit hostile… Ava says, Austin knows what he’s doing, and Nina asks if he didn’t face down the Quartermaines. Ava says, yes. Austin demanded his birthright, the Quartermaines strongarmed him, and he decided it just wasn’t worth the fight to be part of that particular clan. Nina says, their sense of entitlement knows no limits. Michael isn’t that way though. Sonny says he’ll be right back, and leaves. Ava says, this is going great.

Marshall says, what was she like? and Curtis says, loving. It felt like home. Marshall says he bets she was still beautiful. He said he was there with Tommy too? Curtis says he didn’t see him, but he could feel him. He’s still trying to process. It felt realer than a dream. Marshall says, there are more things in heaven and earth than they’ve dreamt of, and Curtis says he misses her too. Marshall says, Curtis was happy there, wasn’t he? But he came back. He came back for them. Why? He says he came back for the same reason Marshall did. He came back for his child.

Trina thanks Spencer for coming, and says, it made such a difference having him here. He says he’ll always be here for her, and she says, even if it means he has to hang out with her mom in the waiting room? He says, the only exceptions are in fine print, and she asks what he and her mom were talking about when she walked in earlier. He flashes back to Portia suggesting he let Trina go, and he says, they were talking about putting family first. It’s definitely something her mom does. Trina says, she’s a fighter. There’s nothing she wouldn’t do to protect the people she loves.

Heather says, from the very first moment Esme was born, she loved her so much. She’d already made some mistakes in her life that would have complicated things for Esme, and she wanted Esme to have the best life possible. That’s what a mother wants for her baby, even if it means making the ultimate sacrifice to make that happen. Esme says, Heather really believes that, doesn’t she? and Heather says, it’s true. It was all worth it to protect her. Esme says, no, no, no. Going around town murdering people with a hook does not qualify as an act of love. Heather says she might have been a little overzealous, but she saw those people as a threat to her daughter. She had to protect Esme; the way Esme would protect Ace. Esme says, oh no. She’s raising Ace. Heather abandoned her. Heather says she made a sacrifice for Esme, and now Esme is doing what she has to do for her baby. Esme says she’s nothing like Heather, but Heather says, that’s why she’s here, isn’t it? Esme finally realized how much they have in common.

Kristina says she never meant for Molly to overhear her about being their surrogate, and it’s possible she may have been a bit too impulsive that night. Molly says, that night? and Kristina says, all right, most nights. But Molly knows that about her, so she should also know that Kristina would never think just because she can have a baby naturally and Molly… can’t, that it makes her some kind of hero. She just thought if she could give her little sister what she desperately wants, that she wants to do that. Molly says, but Kristina didn’t even ask her if that’s what she wanted. She knows Kristina meant to help her, but she wasn’t the first person Kristina talked to about it. She knows Kristina has a big heart, but… Kristina says, but she also has a big mouth, and sometimes when she gets excited about something, she has a tendency to… Molly says, word vomit, and Kristina says, yeah. Molly says, the kids at the shelter are so lucky to have her, but she’s Kristina’s sister. She’s not some stranger Kristina is trying to get off the street.

At the hospital, the nurse tells Cody that there’s someone to see him, and Sam comes in. She says, ouch. He set a new record for stitches. He says, the procedure has become all too familiar, and she says, from what she was told, the amount of blood at the pool, she thought he might be lucky to just make it here alive. He says, her and him both. How did she know he was here? She says, that’s not how this is going to work. He’s not asking the questions; she is. How much trouble is he in this time? He says, for once, he’s not in any trouble. Sasha is.

Bennet says, they need to do a psyche evaluation. He’ll call on ahead and they’ll be waiting for Sasha at GH. He tells the officer to cuff her, and Maxie asks if that’s really necessary. He holds up the bag with the knife, and says, yeah. Maxie tells Sasha, everything’s going to be okay, and Gladys says she’ll come with Sasha, but Bennet says, she can’t ride in the car. The officer takes Sasha away, and Bennet says, Gladys should probably clean up and get to the hospital. Gladys looks at the blood on her hands. Ooh. Symbolism.

Sam says, Sasha stabbed Cody? That doesn’t make any sense. She never hurt anyone. He says he thought exactly the same thing… until she stuck a bar knife in his side at the pool and called him Cyrus. Sam says, Cyrus Renault terrorized her a couple years ago. He asks if he looks like the guy, but she says, not remotely. Besides, he’s been in Pentenville for a while now. He says he could see in her eyes that something was off, and right before that, she got accused of shoplifting. Sam says she guesses Sasha’s recovery had a setback.

Spencer says he’s sorry Trina has had so much to deal with lately. He knows Greenland wasn’t exactly a picnic, and since she’s gotten back… She says she’s fine, and he says he hates feeling like he’s letting her down. Just let him know. Is he making her life better, or just harder?

Portia goes in to see Curtis, and says she thought she was going to lose him. He says he thought he was going to lose her, and she says, nothing matters now except him getting better. Curtis says, Dr. Nephew, and TJ tells Dr. Barnsdall that Curtis even has his sense of humor back. Dr. Barnsdall says, Curtis looks and sounds good, but he’d still like to do some tests. Curtis asks, what kind of tests?

Kristina says, Molly is her little sister, but Molly has always had her life so much more out together than Kristina. She just had this ability to work hard, figure things out, and accomplish it. Molly never needed her. Molly says, that’s not true, but Kristina says, it is true, and that’s okay. Molly has comforted and counseled her more times than she can count. And she just thought finally she’d be able to help Molly. That Molly actually needed her this time, and she could help Molly in a meaningful way. Molly says, all she ever needs is for Kristina to be her big sister.

Esme says, maybe the old Esme who came to Port Charles was a bit like Heather, but she’s not that person anymore. She would never hurt anyone and she would never abandon her child the way Heather abandoned her. Heather says she knew if she and Ryan raised Esme, there was no way she could flourish. Esme says she didn’t exactly flourish with the Prince family, and Heather says, they were stable, they had money, they gave her the traditional upbringing she deserved. Esme says, then why did she tell everyone they were cold and withheld any emotion they might have had for her? and Heather says, that’s what she remembers? Esme says, no, but… Heather says, that’s what Spencer Cassadine’s been telling her, isn’t it? but Esme says, Spencer’s been good to her. He loves Ace. Heather says, Ace is his half-brother, and he’s half Cassadine. That’s all Spencer cares about. He’s willing to ignore the rest of Ace’s bloodline. Esme says, bloodline does not determine who we are meant to be unless you’re a werewolf, and Heather says she knows she and Ryan had their faults, but maybe what they gave her, what the Princes gave her, helped her to become the wonderful woman she is today. Esme says, Ace is never going to know anything about her parents, real or adoptive. She and Spencer have decided to co-parent him and raise Ace to be his own person. Heather tells Esme, her and Ace and that pampered punk is very unhealthy, but Esme says, any family is better than hers. Heather says, how does that fairytale end when Spencer finds out exactly what happened to Esme’s adoptive parents?

Austin tells Gordon that he’s the last guy on earth who would defend his cousin. He knows exactly who that guy is, but he pays his debts. Gordon says, Mason did pay him for the work he did at General Hospital, but he did some extra… Austin starts to blow Gordon off, and Gordon says, bottom line is, Mason is ducking him and he wants his money now. Austin says, talk to his cousin, because it has nothing to do with him, but Gordon says, it has everything to do with Austin. Because Austin is in on it with him. They both know that. Austin says, they’re done here. Don’t ever contact him again. He starts to leave, but Gordon grabs his arm and asks, how difficult is it for a doctor to operate with a broken arm? Sonny comes out and says, you break him, I break you.

Sonny asks if Gordon knows who he is, and Gordon says he does. Sonny says, then Gordon knows he’s a nice guy until you do something he doesn’t like, and he doesn’t like what Gordon is doing right now. So apologize to his friend Austin… Austin says, he doesn’t have to, but Sonny says, hey, and tells Gordon, now. Gordon says, I’m very sorry, Dr. Gatlin-Holt, and Sonny says, he can go now. Gordon thanks him, and leaves. Austin shrugs, and says, so patients don’t always understand doctors are human beings. They can’t help everybody about everything, so sometimes they get angry… Sonny says he didn’t know the medical profession was so hazardous, and Austin says he made it this far, so he guesses he’ll just keep doing what he’s doing. Sonny asks if Austin wants to go back to the ladies, and Austin says, yeah, and jets.

Esme says her adoptive parents died in an accident, and Heather says, well accidents – air quotes – happen – end air quotes. The way that bartender Oz Haggerty’s overdose happened. Esme asks if Heather is saying she had something to do with her parents’ deaths, but Heather says, never mind. That’s all in the past. She shouldn’t have brought it up. Esme says, Heather was just trying to get in her head. It was obviously a mistake to come here. She gets up, but Heather says wait, and follows her. She says, Esme’s mistake is caring what people think about her. She doesn’t need Spencer… Esme says she does. If she wants any chance of living down the things people say she’s done. Heather says she promises Esme, the people in Port Charles don’t forget. And they don’t forgive. Does she know why Heather named her Esme? It means to love, and Heather loves her and accepts her for exactly who she is. She just may be the only person in the whole world who will ever feel that way.

Kristina tells Molly, from now on, no matter how good she thinks her intentions are, she’s not going to assume anything. she’ll wait for people to tell her what they need. Molly says, and she promises to lean on her big sister a little more often, putting her head on Kristina’s shoulder. Kristina says, now that she’s not assuming what Molly wants or needs, she does have an important question for her.  Molly says, already? and Kristina says, mint chocolate chip or mocha? Molly says, both, and as Kristina gets up, she says, and that offer she never officially made still stands. She and Molly touch hands, and Kristina goes to the kitchen.

Cody tries to sit up, and Sam asks what he’s doing. He says he needs to check on Sasha, and Sam says, that’s not a scratch he has right there. He asks if she’s ever been thrown from an unbroken colt. This is nothing. He has to at least see if he can help Sasha. She says she doesn’t think there’s much he can do right now, and they look through the door to see Sasha handcuffed to a wheelchair and looking pretty worried. She’s wheeled into the elevator.

Nina says she’s so glad they’re doing this. Isn’t Sonny? Sonny doesn’t look glad, and flashes back to seeing Austin and Gordon in the alley. Sonny says, yeah. He feels like he knows a lot more about Austin. He smiles.

Trina says, if Spencer is asking if she regrets being with him… His phone rings, and he sees it’s Esme. Trina says, answer it, but he says he’s with her right now. Anything else can wait. She says, it could be about his baby brother, and he steps away. He says he’s in the middle of something right now, but Esme says she just needs to talk to him about something. He asks if Ace is okay, and she says, he’s fine. She’s just been digging into some things in her past and has some questions about her adoptive parents. Does he remember… He says he’s not doing this right now. He’ll see her back at the apartment. He hangs up, and Trina asks if everything is okay, but he says he only cares if he and Trina are okay. Are they? She says, if he’s asking if it’s been easy, it hasn’t been, and he says he knows things have been complicated with him and his family, and he hasn’t been there for her, but he thinks he’s doing better and he promises… She says, it’s not just him and he knows that. Life hasn’t been easy for either one of them. He says, and he feels like they deserve a break. He knows they got one with Curtis waking up, and he’s thankful and grateful that Curtis did. She says, maybe things will be easier for them for a while, and he puts his arms around her. He says, no matter what comes, they’ll face it together.

Dr. Barnsdall tells Curtis to close his eyes and just respond when he feels something. The doctor pokes him in different places on his body, and Curtis is like, yeah… yeah… mm-hm. TJ and Portia look hopeful, but when the doctor gets to his legs there’s no response. TJ asks what Curtis feels, and Curtis says he didn’t feel anything. (Way to panic a patient.) He opens his eyes and says, he can’t feel anything. TJ and Portia don’t look hopeful anymore.

Tomorrow, Curtis says, none of them seem surprised that he can’t feel his legs; Austin asks someone, what happens if people disappoint them; Carly visits Drew; and Josslyn tells Dex that they both know who that bullet was meant for.

🩲 Underside Out…

This week’s Runway was all about using underwear as outerwear, but in a chic way. IMO, there were a couple of gorgeous pieces, but there were also a few klunkers, one of which was in the top three, so what do I know? I was thrilled that Paulina Porizkova was a guest judge, since I loved her book. Designer Sergio Hudson was also in attendance.
