What I Watched Today

(rambling, random thoughts & annoyingly detailed recaps from real time TV watching)

General Hospital

Chase tells Brook that he needs more context. He’s going to help her take back her life how? She says, Linc not only owns the rights to her songs, he’s turning them into trash; just imitations of what they were meant to be. He says, the hell with Linc. Write some new songs; better songs. She says, because it’s just that easy, and he says, she makes it look that way. She says she doesn’t want to start over from scratch. She wants her old songs. She poured her heart and soul into them, and she’s not giving up until she gets them back.

Outside the courtroom, Carly gets a text saying the DNA test results are ready, and she can pick them up at her earliest convenience. Inside, Nina tells Sonny that she’s grateful he’s here. He tells her that he said he’d be here, and she says she knows he did. It’s just the looks he’s getting from Michael and Willow, maybe it’s best he goes. If he takes her side today, he’s burning the last bridge that connects him with this son. He says, there’s too much at stake; he ain’t leaving. Carly comes in, and says, he’s right about the stakes. Everything else can wait.

At the park, Violet asks Gregory when they can see Aunt Elizabeth, and he says, when her daddy tells them it’s okay. In the meantime – he takes out a frisbee – have at it. He unpacks some food, and picks up a copy of The Invader. He looks at the cover, where there’s an article about the hearing, and Violet tells him to put that down and come play with her. Seriously, what is she going to do with a frisbee by herself? He says, her wish is his command, and she says, Uncle Chase taught her; he’s really good. He asks who she thinks taught Uncle Chase, and takes the frisbee, telling her, watch and learn. He tosses it, and says, oh. Did he hit someone? Alexis brings back the frisbee, and says, good thing she isn’t a lawyer anymore, or she might be tempted to sue him.

Laura sees Cameron at the hospital, and hugs him, saying, she’s sorry she couldn’t be here sooner. How’s his mother? He says he doesn’t know. She’s in there with Finn and Doc. At least she’s not talking about ghosts anymore. Laura says, that’s a good thing, but he says, is the real thing any better? All the weird stuff that was happening, how scared they all were; that was just mom stalking herself the whole time?

Finn says, there’s nothing to be afraid of anymore, but Elizabeth says, there’s her. He says, that’s not true, and she says, yes it is, and he knows it. She started a fire that could have burned down a whole building, a whole block, and landed Chase in the hospital. Who’s next? Her boys? Violet? She’s a threat to everyone she cares about. So she has to go away, and stay away.

Marshall wakes up in a panic, and Curtis says, it’s him; it’s your son. Marshall says he must have been dreaming, and tries to get up, but Curtis says he’s going to get the doctor. Marshall tells him to wait, and asks how long he’s been out. Curtis says, ever since he got jumped, ever since he was in that alley, and Marshall says, Curtis means since he came out of nowhere, and beat those guys’ butts. Curtis says, TJ’s the real hero. If he weren’t there, it could have been a whole lot worse. Marshall says, they’re both his heroes. He pats Curtis’s hand, and says, his son and his grandson. To think he could have lost them both. Curtis says he’s not going anywhere, and neither is Marshall.

Carly goes to Michael and Willow, and Michael thanks her for coming. She says, where else would she be? and Nina walks over. She says, it’s not too late. Can they just try to settle this between them? Willow says, after Nina threw Harmony in her face, and Carly says, that’s nice. Diane tells them, don’t engage, and Scotty leads Nina away, saying, don’t fraternize with the enemy. This is war. Diane says, she told Michael and Willow, if they want to win, there’s only one way to play this thing. Are they in? Scotty says, so Nina is in, no matter where it leads? Michael takes Willow’s hand, and says, they’re in. Nina tells Scotty, all or nothing.

Finn says, Elizabeth needs more time with the people who care about her, not less, and she asks, what if she hurts them? He says, she won’t, but she says, he doesn’t know that. What if she can’t stop herself next time, and she does more than rip up one of Violet’s drawings? She burned down Franco’s art studio. Who’s to say she won’t do that to her own house? Laura and Cameron come in, and Laura hugs her. She says she knows Elizabeth is scared, but trust her, it will be okay, if she just faces whatever it is inside and deals with it. Can they agree on that? Doc says he’d listen to Laura if he were Elizabeth, and Elizabeth says she always does. She just doesn’t know how to do this. Laura says, that’s why she has all of them to help her, and Elizabeth says, what if the resources at GH don’t cut it? Laura says, then they’ll find a place that will; a place where she feels safe and can get the care she needs. Elizabeth asks if Finn heard that. He’s going to have to let her go. It’s the only way she’ll find her way back.

Brook tells Chase, she doesn’t know what’s worse, the watered down lyrics or the generic techno beat, which any twelve year old can produce on an app, and probably did. He asks what she’s going to do. Sue Linc to get her songs back? He knows an attorney who specializes in intellectual property, who helped Gregory get one of his academic papers back. She says, unfortunately, that’s not an option. She spoke to Diane a few years back, and the contract is airtight. He says, that was a few years ago, but she says she double-checked this morning. She can’t sue Linc. They need a Plan B. He says, and that’s where he comes in?

Curtis says he’s done a lot of soul searching. It would have been easy to blame Marshall, like he did the first time Marshall walked out, but when he looked in the mirror, he didn’t see a scared little boy anymore, holding his mother’s hand; he saw a grown man, who was so bound and determined to get answers, that he essentially drove Marshall away. Marshall says, it wasn’t Curtis’s fault. He wasn’t able to, or couldn’t be honest with Curtis, or himself. So he ran away – again. Curtis says he has questions, and Marshall says he’s sure Curtis does. Curtis says, but whether or not he gets answers, he just wants Marshall to come home, to his family. No strings, no conditions, just a chance to start fresh for all of us. He really hopes Marshall wants that too.

Gregory tells Alexis that he’s sorry. He was trying to make Violet’s frisbee boomerang. It didn’t quite work out as planned. She says, he might want to work on that, and he says he will. He suggests Violet show off her bubble blowing skills, and Violet runs off. He tells Alexis, why don’t they start over? What brings her to the park today? She says she was just finishing up a Tai Chi class down at the duckpond, and he says he’s always wanted to try Tai Chi; the movements look so beautiful, therapeutic. She says she needs all the therapy she can get. She doesn’t know if Finn told him, but it’s been quite a year. He says, his son’s not a talker; she might have noticed. She says, he would enjoy the Tai Chi; the silence is deafening. Gregory picks up the paper, and asks if this is her way of expressing her opinions these days. She says, he’s a reader, and he says, he is. He can’t quite say he’s a fan.

Scotty says, nice work, getting Sonny here today, but Nina says she didn’t do anything. Scotty says, what’s she talking about? If he gets Sonny up on that stand, he’s not going to be in her corner? She tells him not to put Sonny in that position, and he says, come on. She told him to do what he needed to do, let him do it. The bailiff says, all rise, and Nina looks at Sonny, who shakes his head. The bailiff says, the honorable Judge Foster presiding, and Michael takes Willow’s hand. Nina looks at Sonny again, and he gives her a nod. Carly sees them and doesn’t like it, and looks at the text again. The judge tells Scotty to present his petitioner’s request, and he says, his client, the mother of Nelle Benson, is seeking visitation with her grandson Wiley Corinthos, as permitted by state law. He’s presenting a precedent in the Abercromby versus Higgins case. Diane interjects, saying, as the court is aware, there are numerous other precedents to deny visitation, and her clients are going to explain why that’s the case. Judge Foster says, they’ll get their turn. She’s read the petition, but she’d like to hear Scotty’s client’s request in her own words. She calls Nina to the stand, and she’s sworn in.

Alexis says, she guesses she just assumed that as a professor of history and journalism, Gregory might approve of the changes she made at The Invader. Unless of course (🍷) it’s her inexperience that’s giving him pause. He says, experience doesn’t equal talent, and she says, agreed. He says, look at Dickens and Hemmingway; they both started out as journalists in their teens, and she says, something to aspire to. He suggests she might aim smaller, maybe local coverage, specifically her feature on Nina Reeves. She says she finds that interesting. She was very proud of that story; it was very truthful and unbiased. He says, was it? and she asks if he preferred The Invader the way it was before; tabloid fodder opting for the sensational? He says, at least as a reader, you knew where you stood. It seems like she wants her journalism both ways.

Cameron says, Laura wants to send his mom away? but Laura says, no, that’s not what she wants, but if it’s what Elizabeth needs to get better, they’ll do it. Elizabeth thanks her for being realistic, and tells Cameron that she’s a danger right now, to herself and everyone around her. It’s just not safe for them to be together right now. He says, she would never hurt them, but she says, they don’t know that for sure. She knows it’s awful and scary, and makes her feels so out of control, but it’s the truth. She just loves him so much. He says he loves her too, and she says she refuses to let whatever’s doing this to her harm him or his brothers; it’s just not an option. She tells Finn that she needs him to have her back on this, and he says he does. Always. He just can’t see the benefit of locking her away from the people who care about her. Laura tells him, she knows how hard this is, but right now, they have to do what’s best for Elizabeth.

Marshall asks if Curtis knows what he’s setting himself up for, and Curtis says he does. Marshall says, he ran away not once, but twice. Who’s to say the next time he feels the walls closing in on him, he won’t lace up his sneakers yet again? Curtis says, because there won’t be any walls, at least not between them. There’s nothing Marshall can say that will scare him off or turn him against Marshall. He’s Curtis’s father, Marshall Ashford, flesh and blood. Nothing is going to come between them unless they let it. TJ comes in and says, granddad, you’re awake, and Marshall says, it’s going to take more than a couple of muggers to get the better of the Ashfords. Curtis says, damn straight, and Stella walks in. Marshall says, oh Lord, and she says, Marshall better be thanking Him too. Curtis hugs her, and asks what she’s doing here. She says, taking care of her family, since it’s obvious they need her. Curtis asks, how? and she says, Portia told her, and she was on the first flight out. Does Marshall know how lucky he is that it wasn’t worse? Marshall says, no luck was needed. He had his son and his grandson by his side. He takes Curtis and TJ’s hands.

Scotty asks Nina to tell the court why they’re here today, and Nina says, they’re here in court because Wiley’s her grandson and she loves him. It’s really that simple. He asks how well she knew Nelle Benson, and Nina says, not really well. Nelle worked with her in different capacities. Nelle was a troubled soul. She made countless mistakes and damaged a lot of lives, but no life was as damaged as Nina’s daughter’s. He asks when Nina found out Nelle was her daughter, and she says she didn’t know Nelle was her daughter until after Nelle died, and that’s when she realized Wiley was her grandson, all that she had left of Nelle in this world. He asks if she got to see him, and she says, she did. He asks how that was, and she says, it was great. Love at first sight, at least for her. He asks how Wiley felt about her visits, and she says, Wiley made it really easy; he has such a warm, inviting spirit. They built block houses, colored together, read together. Every moment she got to spend with that little boy was a precious gift. Scotty asks, what happened? Why did Wiley’s parents cut her off? She says, because they decided she was a bad influence for Wiley. She’s not perfect, far from it, but she is a good grandmother and she loves Wiley, and he loves her. It’s that simple. Wiley is her family, and no matter how much they want to, they can’t change that.

Finn suggests they all get on board with this plan. Where would Elizabeth even go? Doc says, Shadybrook. It’s perfect. It’s excellent, it’s close, it’s comfortable. Cameron says, they’re not going to lock her up in a padded cell or something? but Doc says, it’s not that kind of place, and Cameron asks, what kind of place is it? Doc says, Elizabeth can expect a week or two of intensive conversation and exploration, then hopefully she can transition to outpatient care. Laura asks how that sounds, and Elizabeth says, she’s more concerned with what Finn thinks. She wants to do this with his support. He asks if she really thinks this is what’s best, and she says she does. He says, okay, let’s give it a shot. He’ll take her there, and come visit as often as he can. She says, he can’t. She has to do this on her own.

Brook says, she was thinking, since Chase has two weeks on his suspension, he could shadow Linc; catch him doing something shady they could use to get her music back. What does he think? He tells her that she’s crazy.

Stella says, three strangers to three amigos. When did this happen? Curtis says, he’s just trying to convince Marshall to come back to Port Charles with them. TJ says, is that even a question? and Curtis says, apparently. Stella says, she didn’t fly all this way to let Marshall go back to a loner life, and Marshall says, some people like to be alone, but she says, he’s not one of them. He’s a fool if he doesn’t grab this chance with both hands. The doctor asks if it’s okay for him to take a look at the patient. He won’t take long. They leave, and outside, Stella asks if Marshall ever explained why he left… this time, and Curtis says he didn’t want to push Marshall. He takes the prescription bottle out of his pocket, and says, but TJ may have answers based on what he found in Marshall’s hotel room. TJ says, these aren’t for his blood pressure; they’re anti-psychotic medication. Curtis says, but Stella knew that already, didn’t she?

Alexis says, if by both sides Gregory means telling the truth and turning a profit, guilty as charged. She’s not a professor, who sits in an ivory tower. She’s the editor-in-chief of a paper, so she has to tell stories about real people with real problems. He says, so she thinks he doesn’t know anything about real life? but she tells him, that’s not what she said. He just used Dickens and Hemmingway as an example, and this is the 21st century. She’s competing with 24 hour news cycles. She’s competing with social media. She’s competing with instant – and she means instant – information. He says, and he admires he for that, but she says, she’s not getting that impression. He says, isn’t there a danger in mixing titillation with the truth? It seems to him that you end up accomplishing neither. She says, if he bothered to read the latest article, which he clearly did not, he’d see she bent over backward to be objective and not take cheap shots like his ex, Jackie. He says, they’re talking about Alexis’s journalistic integrity, not Jackie’s, when Violet comes over, and says she doesn’t think Gregory is playing nice

Scotty asks if Nina is Wiley’s only grandparent, and she says, no. He asks if she can tell them who else is, and Diane says, relevance? Scotty says, he’ll tell her the relevance. His client is being denied access to her grandson. It seems like there’s a standard for her, and another for everybody else. Judge Foster says she’ll allow it, and Nina says, Wiley has two other grandparents who are here in the courthouse, Carly Corinthos and Sonny Corinthos. Scotty says, so Sonny Corinthos can see his grandson any time he wants, but she’s been deemed a bad influence. Diane objects, and Scotty says, withdrawn. Is that it as far as grandparents go? Nina says, Wiley had another grandmother, Harmony Miller, but she recently passed away, and Scotty says, Harmony Miller who killed Neil Byrne and his brother, and attempted to kill two other people? Nina says, that’s correct, and he says, so Harmony was able to see Wiley, and Nina’s not. Wow. They’re done. Diane says, if it please the court, she has a few questions for the petitioner. Carly smirks, and Sonny looks grim.

Diane says, Nina testified that she didn’t know Nelle was her daughter until after her death. Did anyone else know Nelle was her daughter before she did? Nina says, yes. Carly Corinthos and Jasper Jax. Diane asks if they knew Nelle was her daughter before her death, and Nina says, Carly claimed she didn’t know, but she has her doubts. Diane says, that’s probably upsetting, and Nina says, to find out she had a daughter only after she died? Yeah, it was upsetting. Diane says she imagines Nina regretted all the time she didn’t spend with her daughter, and Nina says, of course (🍷) she did. If she had known… Diane says, what? and Nina says, things would have been different. She could have raised Nelle, and given her the love she deserved to have, and Nelle wouldn’t have turned out the way she did. None of this would have been set in motion. Diane says, correct her if she’s wrong, but wasn’t Nina in a coma from prior to her daughter’s birth until she was in her 20s? and Nina says, yes. Diane says, so this regret is all just a delusional twisted fantasy? and Scotty objects. He says he doesn’t hear a question in there, and Diane says, how’s this for a question? Isn’t this petition of Nina’s an act of revenge? Scotty objects, and says, leading the witness. Diane says, she’ll rephrase. Isn’t this petition of Nina’s yet another act of revenge? She doesn’t have Wiley’s best interests at heart at all, does she?

Laura suggests they give Finn and Elizabeth some privacy, and Doc says he’ll call Shadybrook. He, Laura, and Cameron leave, and Finn says he’s not second guessing her decision. She asks if he’s sure, and he says, if he is, it’s because he’s part of this too. His presence in her life has played a part in bringing forth this… She says, crisis? and he says, they’ll go with that. She says, doesn’t he see? That’s why he can’t be a part of this. He was so convinced there was someone out there trying to split them up, and she was equally convinced it was Franco’s ghost. They were both really wrong. Is it her? Is there something buried deep down that feels threatened by her feelings for him? As scary as this is, as much as she wants him to hold her hand through all of this, they can’t. She has to do this on her own.

Brook says she thought Chase was on her side, and he says he is, but she says, obviously not. He asks if she has any idea how many laws she’s asking him to break. One, they have no warrant; two, she’s talking about blackmail here. And four… She says, he was on three, and he says, and three, yes, he’s on suspension, but he’s still a cop. Not for long if he goes along with this highly unethical plan of hers. She says, she’s unethical? and he says, in this moment. She’s asking him to coerce a suspect into committing a crime; it’s called entrapment. She says, she doesn’t care what it’s called. She can’t sit back and do nothing. He says he gets that, but she says, he doesn’t. These songs are her babies, and she will not let someone take them away from her. He says, babies? and she says, yes. She created them and nurtured them. She cried when they failed and celebrated when they were genius. That’s how much they mean to her. He says, that explains it. She’s not just mourning her songs; she’s mourning Bailey.

Curtis tells Stella, there’s a story here; a story that started about 40 years ago. TJ says, and if he still has a prescription for these kind of drugs, the story continues to this day. Stella says, she knows they want answers, and they deserve them. And yes, there’s a story, but like she said, it’s not hers to tell. The doctor wheels Marshall out, and says, it looks like a concussion, but he wants to run a few more scans before approving Marshall’s discharge. TJ says, if he’s afraid Marshall will be alone… Curtis says, don’t worry; he won’t be.

Gregory tells Violet, you know how sometimes you go to the playground, and get on one end of the seesaw? Alexis says, and someone gets on the other end of the seesaw? and Gregory says, then they lift you up and don’t let you down. Violet says she doesn’t like that, and Gregory says, you get upset, then they get upset. Alexis says, and then you’re arguing about a silly seesaw. Violet asks if they were being silly, and they say that they were. Gregory tells Alexis that he apologizes for his criticism, and she asks if he retracts it. He says, no, and she says, no retraction necessary. She has an idea. Why doesn’t he put his money where his mouth is? Why doesn’t he state his opinion in print, on the record? Unless he’s all talk.

Scotty says, this is character assassination at its worst, and the judge tells Diane to get where she’s going. Fast, or drop the line of questioning altogether. Diane says, Nina’s character is the sole reason they’re here. But of course (🍷). Is Nina familiar with the series of articles in The Invader? Nina says, yes, she skimmed it, and Diane says, so she knows, in addition to the other details of her rich and full life, it speaks about the time she spent in a little town called Nixon Falls. Is that portion of the story a lie? Nina says, like she said, she skimmed it. Diane says, is it a lie to say, while Nina was in Nixon Falls she ran into Wiley’s grandfather, Sonny Corinthos, when everyone else presumed him dead? Nina says, that’s true, and Diane says, and did Nina keep the knowledge from Mr. Corinthos that he was presumed dead, and at the same time keep the knowledge that he was alive from his wife and family, including precious Wiley, knowing the pain and suffering it caused? Scotty says, badgering the witness, and Judge Foster says, sustained. Nina says, at that moment, she wasn’t thinking about the pain and suffering, and Diane says, of course (🍷) not. Nina was thinking about revenge; getting back at Carly Corinthos because she possibly kept Nelle’s existence a secret from her? And isn’t it that same revenge that’s driving her today?

Finn says, Elizabeth is right, and she says she loves it when he says that. He says, he’s not crazy about the idea of letting go, and she says, her neither. He says, but in this case, he has to. He doesn’t want to impede her recovery. Would it be okay if he said he’s really going to miss her? She says, she’s going to miss him, but he heard Doc. It might only be a few weeks. He says, she’ll be back in no time, and she says, good as new. He says he liked the old version, and she says, then good as old. He says, even better, when Doc comes back with Laura and Cameron. He says, she’s all set, and Laura says, she and Doc will drive Elizabeth over. Cameron says, just get better. He’ll make sure Jake and Aiden stay in line while she’s away. Elizabeth says she knows he will. She’s never been more proud of him than she is right now. He says he’s proud of her too, and Laura says, they all are.

Gregory asks if Alexis is inviting him to submit something for publication, and she says, The Invader welcomes all kinds of opinions. Unless he’s afraid to hear from the readers. Violet says, grandpa’s not afraid of anything, and Gregory’s phone dings. Violet asks if that’s daddy. Are they going to see Aunt Elizabeth? Gregory says, let’s do it, and starts to pack up. Alexis tells him to give her best to Finn and Elizabeth. She hands him the newspaper, but he says, no thanks. Have a good one. She says, him too, and he and Violet leave.

The doctor tells Marshall that he’s going to set up the tests, and leaves. Marshall sees the prescription bottle in TJ’s hand, and says, he’s been less than honest about a lot of things. Stella says, it’s time; time to let go of the past. Curtis says, that can wait, and TJ says, what matters is getting Marshall better. Marshall says he appreciates that, but Stella is spot-on. Curtis deserved an explanation a long time ago. He wasn’t able to get it right with Tommy, but he can get it right with Curtis.

Nina says, what happened in Nixon Falls was more complicated than Diane is making it, but Diane says, not really. Nina either lied or she didn’t; which is it? Nina says she lied. Who hasn’t lied in here? That doesn’t make her a bad grandmother. She loves Wiley. How can she prove to Wiley how much she loves him if she’s shut out of his life? How can she prove it, not just by her words, but by her actions? Diane says, with all due respect, she had her chance, and threw it in the garbage. No further questions. The judge tells Nina to step down, and Michael says he thinks Diane did it. Diane says, let’s hope, and he tells Willow, that’s the end of that. Judge Foster asks if there’s anyone else prepared to speak for or against the petition, and Sonny tells Scotty to get him on the stand. Nina says, no, he doesn’t have to, but he says, yes, he does.

At GH, Finn tells Violet that Elizabeth is going to a place where she can get the care she needs. She’ll be home soon. Violet says she hopes Elizabeth Feels better, and Finn says he hopes so too. Elizabeth comes out, and Violet hugs her. She tells Elizabeth that she can take the frisbee, but Elizabeth tells her to hang onto it. They’ll play when she gets back. She asks for a hug for the road, and tells Violet that she loves her. She tells Cameron, don’t think he’s getting out of another one, and he says he wouldn’t want to. They hug, and she says she loves him. He says he loves her too, and Finn says, he’s not saying goodbye. Violet says, see you later, and Finn says, he’ll see Elizabeth later. Elizabeth says, not if she sees him first, and he hugs her. She says, tell the boys she loves them, and she’ll be home as soon as she can. Elizabeth gets in the elevator with Doc and Laura, and Finn holds her hand until the elevator doors start to close.

The doctor asks if Marshall is ready for the scans, and Stella tells him, be careful. He has precious cargo. The doctor says, as soon as they’re clear, Marshall can go home, and Marshall says, that’s exactly where he’s going – home with his family.

Brook says, this has nothing to do with Bailey, and Chase says, no? She says, no. It’s about her taking her life back, and everything she’s worked for. Is he going to help her or not? He says he’s sorry; he can’t. She says she’ll do it herself, and gets up.

Judge Foster says, if Scotty and his client have no more witnesses to call… Nina looks at Sonny, then nods to Scotty. Scotty says, they have one more witness to call. He calls Sonny Corinthos to the stand. Sonny gets up, and is sworn in. Everyone sits stone-faced.

Tomorrow, Josslyn tells Cameron, she finally figured out a way to stop Esme; Victor tells Ava, welcome home; and Diane asks why they should trust Sonny’s judgement.

What I Watched Today

(rambling, random thoughts & annoyingly detailed recaps from real time TV watching)

General Hospital

Nikolas and Ava sit at a table in the MetroCourt, and Ava says, it’s vintage Ryan. The creepy gifts, the cryptic notes. Nikolas says Doc told her that Ryan’s condition hasn’t changed; he can only communicate with his eyes. She says, if it isn’t Ryan, it’s someone who wants to emulate him. That doesn’t make her feel any better. She asks why Nikolas keeps looking at the door. Is he expecting somebody? He says, his mother’s brother, and she says she knows he wants to keep Alexis safe in Pentenville, but she’s warning him not to get involved with Cyrus. He says, not Cyrus. His mother’s other brother, Martin Grey. Ava says, whatever. If Laura knew what he was planning, she’d agree with Ava, and say, no way in hell.

Laura opens the door to Scotty, and asks what brought him by. He says, things have been going crazy in his head; he needs a reality check. She asks, what happened? and he says, Jason Morgan didn’t kill my son Franco; Peter August did.

Anna asks Valentin, how’s Brook Lyn? No adverse effects from the fall? He tells Anna, she says she’s fine, and Anna says, okay, and him? He says he’s fine. He was just thinking how ironic it is, you bring a life into the world, and because of that, a huge chunk of you becomes your biggest vulnerability, walking the world, becoming the target of threats, real or imagined. She asks if he’s talking about Peter, and he says he gets it. Peter needs to be locked up. It’s the only way to keep him safe from himself. The only way to keep any of them safe; Anna, him, Maxie, the baby. They’re the ones who’ve enabled him all these years. She says, it’s up to them to stop him, and the doorbell rings. Anna opens the door to Peter, who says he hopes he hasn’t come at a bad time. He wanted to talk to her about Maxie. Valentin joins Anna, and Peter says he apologizes for his abruptness at the hospital. He never congratulated Valentin on becoming a father again. He hopes Valentin has more luck with the baby than Valentin had with him.

At the hospital, Josslyn lies on a bed in the ER, and Jax asks Elizabeth if she’s sure the ankle isn’t broken. She says, according to the X-rays, it’s just a bad sprain. Josslyn says she told him, and he says, it’s nice to be wrong, for once. Elizabeth says she bets his heart skipped a beat when he heard she got injured at volleyball practice, and he says he almost got a speeding ticket coming to pick her up. Josslyn says she’d be flattered if she didn’t know he speeds all the time. Elizabeth says she’ll talk to the doctor, and see when Josslyn can go home. She leaves, and Jax asks, so what happened exactly? The coach told him that Josslyn went for every point like it was her last. Like she had something to prove. She says, because she does. Southern Coastal University waitlisted her. She has to prove she belongs there.

Chase and Gregory are seated at an Italian restaurant, and Gregory tells the waiter, they have two more coming. We know it’s an Italian restaurant because of the red and white checkered table clothes, the giant fork and spoon hanging on the wall, and the standard Italian music playing in the background. I’m surprised the waiter doesn’t look like the guy on the pizza box. Chase says, having second thoughts, dad? and Gregory says, if Chase can still call him dad, he supposes he can sit down with Jackie and Finn. Jackie comes in and says, good; they didn’t start.

At the phone at the hospital, Finn says he’ll tell grandpa that Violet said hello… and Jackie… and Uncle Chase. Okay, no more stalling. It’s time to go to bed. He tells her that he loves her. Elizabeth is at the reception desk, and he says, please tell him it gets easier. She says, just wait until Violet is old enough to criticize everything he does, and he asks which one is causing problems now. She says, Cameron. He thinks she’s being disloyal to Franco’s memory. Finn says, he’s just hurt. He couldn’t be more wrong. She says, Cameron is convinced that Jason killed Franco. He says, and she has doubts?

Jason sits down for a visit with Carly behind glass, and she asks if he’s all right. Are any of Cyrus’s men harassing him? He says he’s fine, and she says, which tells her nothing. He says he’s good. He can protect himself for as long as he needs to. She says, for how long? Weeks? Months? You’d think she’d know the drill, being married to Sonny. She says she’s being pressured from all sides; Cyrus, the Five Families artichoke hearts, and now, Peter August. He says, Peter’s giving her trouble? and she says, that’s what she’s trying to tell him. She needs him. So she’s getting him out of there. Whatever it takes.

Jason says, they talked about this, and Carly doesn’t make a move without him. She says, that was before he went to prison, and he says, it’s just until trial. She says, the case against him is getting stronger every day. Elizabeth, the grieving widow, insists he’s guilty, and their plan to get Gladys to recant her story is going nowhere. He asks how she thinks a plan to get him out is going to go any better. He gets it. Sometimes the hardest thing to do is wait, but for them right now, it’s the only way. She says, it’s his way. She knows he believes this, because he’s been to prison, but everything is different. Sonny is dead. He can’t call in a few favors. He can’t pressure a judge or the warden. They’re on their own.

Elizabeth tells Finn, her house feels like an armed camp with a tentative truce. Jake and Cameron are polite at dinner, then they just go to their own rooms. While Aiden just tries to keep the peace by making his brothers’ favorite desserts. He says, sounds like a house divided, and she says, for or against Jason. He says he’s sorry she’s going through that. He thinks he can relate just a little. He’s supposed to be going to this family dinner tonight, hosted by Chase. They’re supposed to be figuring things out; seeing what they’re family looks like going forward into the future. She asks, what does that look like? and he says he doesn’t know. He just knows that he has to do better. For Chase, and especially for Violet. Otherwise, he’ll just take the coward’s way out, and not go at all. She says, someone who faces down infectious diseases for a living, could never be a coward. He says, infectious diseases are easy. Families are hard. But he doesn’t have to tell her that, does he?

At the restaurant, Jackie thanks Gregory for taking her suggestion, and he says he thinks they should set some ground rules. He didn’t come here to rehash arguments or point fingers. He understands the marriage is over, even though it wasn’t his choice, but he loves his granddaughter, and wants Violet to have the family she deserves. Jackie says, so does she. She wants them to be more than a family in name only. That’s why it’s important they discuss the situation, and decide where they go from here. Chase says, there’s just one thing missing, and Gregory says, he guesses they’d better order.

Nikolas says he told Ava, Cyrus promised to protect Alexis if he found Cyrus’s mother, but Ava says, Florence is safer away from her son. Has he forgotten what Cyrus did to her brother? Julian made a deal with Cyrus, and in the end, Cyrus forced Julian to do his bidding. Nikolas’s sister is in a coma because of Cyrus. Nikolas says, Cyrus will pay for his crimes – someday – but right now, if finding Florence guarantees Alexis’s safety, he’s willing to make a deal with the devil.

Laura says Scotty was so convinced Jason killed Franco. What changed his mind? He says he and Obrecht had a heart to heart talk, and she asks, since when does he rely on Obrecht’s judgement? He says, since… they ran into her in Switzerland, when he was there with Franco to see the doctor.  Like Elizabeth, Obrecht was convinced that Franco would not return to his former self. Laura says she also doubts Jason is guilty, but that’s not the same as relying on Obrecht’s opinion. Scotty says, it’s not just Obrecht’s opinion. It’s a fact that Peter was trying to kill Franco and Andre, because Franco might remember that Peter was the one who snatched Drew from the post in Afghanistan. She says she’s not a fan of Peter’s, but he prevented the assassination, and Scotty says, maybe he changed his mind, or was trying to make himself out to be a hero. He still put the article out about Franco’s tumor. She says, it wasn’t one of Peter’s finer moments; it made Franco a target, and Scotty says, if Dante hadn’t gotten in the way, Alexis would have killed his son. Instead, she almost killed Dante. So what happened? Peter finished the job. She says, and he’s going to let Jason pay for his crimes, and Scotty says, yeah; that’s what Peter does. It’s what he did to Obrecht. What he’s doing is looking for someone else to put on the hook, so he can get off the hook. She says she sees how it makes sense, but Obrecht isn’t a reliable source. There must be some compelling reason that Scotty suddenly trusts her.

Peter says he looks forward to his and Valentin’s children growing up together. Maybe they’ll be as close as he and Valentin once were, before lies got in the way. Anna asks what he wanted to say about Maxie, and he says, not so much Maxie as her former mother-in-law. Obrecht is spreading some vicious lie about him murdering Franco. They wouldn’t happen to have any idea where she got that from, would they?

Jax tells Josslyn, there must be a mistake. She’s at the top of her class, and was heavily recruited for academics and athletics. He’ll call the Dean of Administration and find out. She says, no; that’s so dad of him. Southern Coastal has the best volleyball program, and they have their pick of girls. She needs to try harder so they’ll choose her. Elizabeth comes in, and says the doctor wants to check Josslyn out one last time before she goes. Jax says he’ll be right back, and when he’s outside, he takes out his phone.

Carly says she knows Elizabeth came to see Jason at the PCPD lock-up before he was transferred there, and Jason says, she brought Jake to say goodbye. She says, that’s great. Elizabeth never would have brought Jake to see him if she believed he killed Franco.  She must have doubts. He says he told Jake that he didn’t kill Franco, but he’s not going to convince Elizabeth; she’s entitled to her own opinion. Carly says, but she’s not entitled to punish an innocent man. They don’t have time to wait for Diane to prove Gladys is lying. They’re going to have to take Cyrus up on his offer. They’re going to have to give back Florence. Jason says, no. Then they have nothing. Does she think Cyrus is going to keep his word once he gets what he wants? Florence is the only leverage they have. Carly gets a text, and says, Josslyn is in the ER.

Valentin tells Peter, it’s too late to deny he’s a murderer; he already confessed. Peter says, it’s Valentin’s word against his. He supposes those playdates aren’t going to happen after all. They don’t have to be enemies. Peter pours himself a drink, and says, despite what Obrecht believes, he didn’t kill Franco. Anna says, he just expects them to believe that? and he says, for the sake of their children and loved ones, they should. He’s offering both of them a fresh start. It’s in both their best interests to accept. Anna says, that doesn’t sound like a peace offering. That sounds like a threat.

Scotty tells Laura, Obrecht loved Franco like a son. They were doing a lot of… grieving together. Why can’t she just believe him? She says she’d like to believe Obrecht is telling the truth, but she has two witnesses who say it was Jason, and one of them is the mother of Jason’s son. Scotty says he knows. He was convinced that Jason did it too. He  was the one who attacked Jason, going after him. He was going to choke him to death at the PCPD. She says Scotty made a lot of threats, and he says, he thought he was doing it for Franco, but now what he wants for his son is the truth and justice. He wants Peter in a courtroom, facing a judge and jury. He’s been a lawyer all of his life, and it’s about time he used the law in his favor.

Ava tells Nikolas, if he’s determined to help Alexis, don’t play by Cyrus’s rules. Ask Carly; what Jason knows, she knows. He asks if she thinks Carly is going to tell him. Jason may be in prison, but he’s still calling the shots, and Florence is the best leverage Jason has. The second Carly realizes Nikolas has an interest in Florence’s location, Carly will tell Jason, and he’ll move her to a new one. There’s only one way to find out what he needs to know. Martin approaches the table, and says, forgive him for being late; he was held up in court. He didn’t realize Nikolas’s lovely wife would be joining them. Nicolas says Ava was just leaving, when Ava gets a text, and says, yes; actually, she was. She leaves, and Nikolas thanks Martin for agreeing to meet. Martin says Nikolas strongly implied it was something important, and Nikolas asks, what could be more important than a man and his mother?

Chase says he didn’t think Finn would show, and Finn says, neither did he, but he realized Violet would be disappointed in him. Maybe not today or tomorrow, but when she’s older, she’ll wonder why he didn’t try to mend the rift in the family. Gregory lifts his coffee cup, and says, to the smartest person in the family – to Violet. They clink their cups, and Jackie says they’re off to a good start; they agree on something. Finn says, maybe they should quit while they’re ahead. If he goes now, he can be home in time to read Violet a bedtime story, but Jackie says he doesn’t get off that easy. Gregory asked them not to dredge up the past or assign blame, and she agrees with him.  They’ve all had a chance to express their feelings, so let’s move on from there. Chase says, feelings don’t just go away because you want them to. He’s trying to move on, but it’s not that easy. Gregory says, they’re all trying to move on, and as Chase said, it’s not easy, but they have to at least try. Jackie asks, where do they go from here? Will they be a family? Or do they tell one another, you go your way and I’ll go mine?

Carly tells Jason that Josslyn hurt her ankle at volleyball practice, and he says, go. She says she will, but they’re going to finish this. When he gets out of there, he can handle Cyrus any way he wants, but the first step is to get the charges dropped. He says, no deals, not with Cyrus, and she says she hates when he does this. He locks in, and he won’t change his mind. He tells her, go; Josslyn needs her. She says she’ll go, but she’ll be back.

Nikolas tells Martin, he knows Martin’s last meeting with Laura was disappointing, and Martin says, try humiliating. They were moving toward becoming two sibling, until Cyrus crashed the party and ruined things. Nikolas says, Cyrus saw an opening to make himself look better by making Martin look worse, and Martin says, exactly. Nikolas understands what he’s up against. The more he tries to prove he’s not like Cyrus, the more Cyrus paints him to be as corrupt and immoral as he is. Nikolas says, it doesn’t have to be that way if he intercedes on Martin’s behalf. Martin asks why Nikolas would do that for him, and Nikolas says he’d be doing it for his mother. Family means everything to her. Martin says he knows the feeling, but not when it comes to Cyrus, and Nikolas says he bets Martin’s mother is someone whose happiness means everything to him. Martin says, more than he can ever say, and Nikolas says, from what he’s heard, if Cyrus had his way, he’d keep her to himself, and shut Martin out completely. Martin says, but that’s not going to happen, and Nikolas asks if he’s sure.

Ava comes by Laura’s house, and says she was surprised to get Laura’s text. What’s up? Laura says she just wanted to check in. She heard Ava had quite a shock. Ava says Doc must have told Laura about the lovely gift she received at the gallery. Laura says, if it’s any comfort, Doc doesn’t believe Ryan was behind it. I’m not sure how that would be a comfort, since they know Ryan is a psychopath already, and it would be par for the course. She’d rather they wonder? Ava says she knows Doc does his best to be objective, but she’s not sure Doc sees Ryan for the awful person he is. She’s not falling for it. Sure, locked-in syndrome would present a problem, but Ryan is nothing if not creative. She’s sure he found a way to communicate with the guard. Blink three times if you want me to send Ava a disgusting, severed, phony hand. Anything is possible with Ryan. Laura says, for Ava’s sake, she hopes Ava is wrong, and Ava asks if that’s what Laura wanted to see her about. Laura says she wants to talk about Nikolas, and Ava says she hopes this isn’t the part where Laura doesn’t think it’s a good idea for them to renew their vows, but Laura says, not at all. When Ava and Nikolas first got married, it was for all the wrong reasons, but in watching them, she’s seen a change in them both. She thinks they’ve fallen in love for real. Ava says, for real, and Laura says, it’s great. That’s why she’s counting on Ava to help her stop Nikolas from making the biggest mistake of his life. Ava says, by getting involved with Cyrus?

Gregory says, before they think of how they’re going to move forward as a family, or even if they want to, he’d like to share a lesson he tried to teach his students. Finn says, not a lesson. Isn’t this bad enough? and Chase says he thought Gregory was all lessoned out when he retired, but Jackie says she’d like to hear it. Gregory thanks her, and says, everything worth knowing comes at a cost. After hearing their groans, maybe there’s a second lesson – you can’t erase you past as a family. His lectures at the dinner table made them cringe, but the fact is, they sat and listened anyway. The bedtime stories, and pancakes on Saturday morning, and all the other rituals of their childhood and growing up; he wouldn’t change it for the world. Finn says Gregory is more forgiving and generous than he deserves. Chase says he remembers another lesson from the dinner table – always take the high road. He’s trying to; he really is, but he doesn’t know if he can. Not after all the secrets and lies that brought them here tonight. Jackie says she thought they weren’t rehashing old feelings, but Finn says, they’re not old, are they? Maybe that’s the real lesson. They can get past everything except the past.

Peter says he’s offering Anna and Valentin an olive branch. Why would Anna interpret that as a threat? Valentin says Peter’s not all that subtle for one thing, and Anna says if Peter thinks he can walk out clean, there are other people believe he’s guilty; he knows that, right? Valentin says Peter needs to turn himself in and serve a sentence, so he can start down the road to redemption. If he stays on the road of whatever fairy tale he thinks this is, it will end bloody, at the hands of any of the countless people he’s screwed over. Peter says he offered them both a choice, and it seems they made it. Now they have to live with it. He leaves, and Valentin and Anna look at each other.

Elizabeth tells Josslyn that the doctor said she’s free to leave. He also said to take it easy with her ankle. That means no volleyball for the next one or two weeks. Josslyn says, but the state tournament is coming up. College scouts will be there. Elizabeth says she loves Josslyn’s dedication, but the surest way not to play in the tournament  is to aggravate that sprain.

Carly runs into the hospital, and asks Jax, what happened? Is Josslyn okay? He says, she sprained her ankle in volleyball; it’s nothing serious, but he thought Carly would want to see her. Carly thanks him, and starts to go into the ER, but he says, Josslyn didn’t want to go to the hospital. She insisted it didn’t hurt, but he has the feeling she’s not as tough as she thinks she is. Carly asks what he’s talking about. Is something else going on?

Scotty visits Jason at the prison, and thoroughly cleans the phone before he speaks into it. I can’t say as I blame him, even on a good day. He says he’s not there to threaten Jason. For years he was afraid Jason would do Franco in, even though Franco turned his life around, and became a loving father and a good guy. He knew Jason didn’t care, and wanted to kill Franco anyway. He was convinced Jason did kill Franco, but now he has to admit, he knows Jason didn’t kill his son.

Laura tells Ava that Nikolas thinks he can protect Alexis by returning Florence to Cyrus. Ava says, Nikolas trusts that Cyrus will help Alexis in Pentenville, but she’s concerned it will open the door to Cyrus expecting more from him. Laura asks if Ava told him, and Ava says, yeah, of course (🍷). It didn’t get her anywhere. Nikolas is determined to protect his aunt, and doesn’t see that he’s likely doing the opposite. Because from now on, when Cyrus wants anything, he’ll just threaten Alexis, and pretty soon Nikolas will be under Cyrus’s thumb. Laura says, no. They can’t let that happen. How can they stop Nikolas from making this mistake?

Nikolas tells Martin that Cyrus threatened his aunt. Does Martin know her? Alexis Davis? Martin says, know her? he was her attorney for her drunk driving case, and again when she was arrested for assaulting Dante, before Diane got involved. For the record, he thinks Alexis made a mistake. She talked to him about pleading guilty, but he was shocked when she followed through with it. He was sorry to hear she got three years in Pentenville. Nikolas says, so was he, and Martin says he’s not sure what that has to do with Nikolas’s mother or his… Ah-ha. He sees. So he was right; Cyrus made Nikolas an offer. Let him guess; Alexis’s safety for their mother’s whereabouts. Nikolas says, Alexis is very important to him, and there’s nothing he wouldn’t do for her. Martin says tell him that Nikolas didn’t agree to help Cyrus, and Nikolas tells him, let’s just say the man knows where he stands. And it’s in Cyrus’s best interest not to cross him, but the conversation got him thinking. There could be a workaround. A way to bring Martin and Laura together, and keep Florence far away from Cyrus.

Chase says, this was a mistake, and starts to get up, and Finn says, there’s no dishonor in that. Jackie says, please, and Gregory says he has one last remark, cringeworthy or not. He tells Chase, when his mom and Finn told him the truth that they slept together, and he found out Finn had fathered Chase, he admits he wallowed in self-pity for a while. But while he thought back on his life, and it was a good one. He looks at Jackie, and says, they had a great run, didn’t they? She says, damn right, and Gregory says, he’s not a victim. He raised two intelligent, capable men who make a significant contribution to society every day. He remembers lots of laughs, and lots of tears, with both of them, and the icing on the cake is his granddaughter. She was a gift he never expected, and he’ll never give up on her. Finn says, that’s good, because she’s not giving up on Gregory either, and Gregory asks that they not argue. They came there tonight to find a way forward as a family. He suggests they order dinner, make a few more toasts, and get on with trying. Where’s their waiter? Chase smiles.

Their waiter is meeting Peter underneath the restaurant. Peter says he sees the waiter got his message. Don’t worry. No one will find out. He’s just doing a favor for a friend, and in exchange, his problem with the parole officer will go away. He hands the waiter a vial, and tells him, make sure Dr. Hamilton Finn gets a taste of his own medicine.

Carly comes in with Jax to see Josslyn, and Elizabeth says Josslyn will be fine, as long as she follows the doctor’s orders. She knows it’s tough, but Josslyn will have to let someone else be the star on the team for the next week or two. Josslyn says she’ll be rusty for the tournament. Carly says Josslyn’s dad said something else is going on, and Josslyn says she’s just frustrated. This is the worst possible time for this to happen. Not that it’s serious; she’ll still be able to practice though. Carly says they’ll discuss the pros and cons of that on the way home. She asks if she can talk to Elizabeth, and Elizabeth says, sure. They leave, and Jax asks why Josslyn didn’t tell her mom about being waitlisted.

Carly says she thought Elizabeth would want to know, when Jax called to tell her about Elizabeth, she was at Pentenville with Jason.

Scotty tells Jason, Obrecht told him that Peter shot Franco, but there’s no proof, and who’s going to believe Obrecht when they have Elizabeth and another eyewitness? Jason asks why Scotty is there to see him, and Scotty says, he’s there to honor his son. He was told Franco made a deal with Jason to kill him if he resorted back to his former self. Scotty knew Jason would do it, and promised Franco that no harm would come to Jason. Jason says, that’s not necessary, and Scotty says, it was to Franco. He knows Diane is top notch, but if there’s anything he can do for Jason, he’ll do it.

Laura tells Ava that she has a pretty good relationship with the Pentenville warden. She can intervene on Alexis’s behalf. Ava says, that’s the perfect solution, but Laura says, she can’t promise anything; all she can do is try. She’s asking Ava to keep reminding Nikolas that he can’t trust Cyrus. He loves Ava, and will listen to her. Ava thanks Laura for having faith in her, and Laura says she also has faith that Ava brings out the best in her son. Don’t ever let him give in to his dark side. Ava gives her word. She’ll see to it that Nikolas does the right thing.

Martin says he’d greatly appreciated Nikolas bringing Laura and him together, but his own mother is safe; he might say, thriving. Nikolas asks how he knows, and he says, because he enjoys one advantage over his brother. Their mother can actually tolerate his company. He was allowed to see her, and she’s happy. She’s having the time of her life. Nikolas says, really? and Martin says, oh yeah, but because of Cyrus, she had to be relocated, and for his own safety, he wasn’t told where. He won’t be able to see her again for a while to spoil her and bring her favorite treats. Nikolas asks if she has a sweet tooth, and Martin says, always has. Chocolate, pastries… He had to scour Vermont to find a hummingbird cake for her birthday. Cyrus never even thought about it. Nikolas says, of course (🍷); Cyrus only thinks about himself, and Martin says Nikolas’s mother is unique. If Nikolas would put in a good word for him, it would be most appreciated. Nikolas says, of course (🍷). He’s confident all this will work out.

Valentin asks if Anna spoke with Robin, and Anna says she did, but tried not to alarm her. He says he told the school not to let Peter near Charlotte, and got private security for Brook. There’s nothing more dangerous than a wounded animal. She says, Peter is definitely wounded. It’s just a matter of time. He says they can’t afford to wait any longer.

The waiter that Peter met with asks if anyone wants dessert, but everyone is too full. Finn says, he’s good with coffee, and the waiter puts a cup in front of him. We assume the drug is in it.

Ava asks Nikolas how it went with Martin, and he asks if she knows where to find a hummingbird cake in Vermont. She asks what a hummingbird cake is, and he says it’s Florence’s favorite dessert. She asks why that’s important, and he says Martin ordered one for Florence’s birthday when he visited. He found a baker in Stowe from North Carolina, whose specialty is hummingbird cakes. She asks if he’s feeling okay, and he says, never better. He’s going to track down Florence, and he might even say, it will be a piece of cake. BA-DUM-CHH!

Laura gets a delivery of flowers, and says Doc didn’t have to do that, but she loves him for it. She reads the card, and realizes they’re not from Doc. She reads, I miss you grandma, and can’t wait to see you at my graduation. Love, Spencer. She says, so sweet.

Josslyn tells Jax that her mom has a lot on her mind. If she tells Carly that she’s been waitlisted, Carly will go into overdrive, and try to fix it and make her feel better. He asks if that would be so bad, and she says she doesn’t want her mom to fix it. She wants to prove to Southern Coastal that she belongs there, both academically and athletically. And step one is getting back on the volleyball court

Carly tells Elizabeth that she appreciates Jake being taken to visit Jason. It gave Jason a chance to tell Jake he’s innocent, and Jake believes he’s innocent. Elizabeth tells her, stop there. She knows where this is going. Carly says she’s not going to ask Elizbeth to lie or cover for Jason, just think about that night and what she actually saw. If she comes to believe what her son believes, that Jason is innocent, then she needs to tell the police.

Jason tells Scotty that he can do something for him; look out for Jake. Scotty says he will do that, but what about Peter? Jason says, Peter has been lucky a long time, covering his tracks, and blaming other people. His luck is about to run out.

Peter goes to Anna’s house, and she thanks him for coming back. He says, it sounded urgent, and she says, it is. They’ve reconsidered his offer. He says, sorry. The offer ended when he walked out; it’s too late. Valentin comes down the stairs, and says he couldn’t agree more. We see he’s holding a gun.

Finn almost drinks his coffee, but Chase asks if they remember when he was little, and they went to a restaurant with a lazy Susan on the table. Gregory says he thought it was a merry-go-round for food, and Jackie says, they all put their glasses on it, and spun it around just to make him happy. Chase thinks they should do it again for old times’ sake, and I wonder who thought this one up. They put their coffee cups on it, and spin them around. They each take a cup, and Gregory says, to the future, whatever it holds. They clink their cups and drink.

On Monday, Maxie asks Britt if it’s weird to fist bump about this, Willow tells Michael that she can’t let go of her feelings for him, and Anna tells Peter that Valentin isn’t going to do anything to him, but she is.

What I Watched Today

(rambling, random thoughts & annoyingly detailed recaps from real time TV watching)

General Hospital

In keeping with the tradition of every long, yet rushed, week, I missed the beginning, but here’s what happened. Dr. Kirk told Franco that he believed the voice Franco was hearing was a leftover memory of Drew’s. Scotty caught Obrecht outside the office, and wondered if she’d escaped from prison. Olivia told Alexis her marriage was just fine, and Alexis asked if she was sure. Tracy interrupted, and steered Alexis away from Olivia, and toward the bar. At one of the tables, Nikolas and Ava were celebrating, and Nikolas said he had a surprise for Ava. It was the post-nup, which he tossed on the table. Sam met Carly at the MetroCourt, and Dante met Olivia. Sam told Carly that she and Jason had separated, and Dante told Olivia that he was thinking about taking Rocco home. Jason and Sonny went to NYC, where Jason thought Spinelli would be able to locate Julian. He told Sonny that he and Sam had separated. Julian knocked on an apartment door, and a woman opened it, but kept the chain-lock on. Julian said he was looking for Kim Nero, and…

The woman says he’s in the right place. This is Dr. Nero’s apartment. He asks if she’s Kim’s roommate, but she says she works there. He says he thought maybe Kim no longer lived there, and she says she knows who he is. He’s Charlie.

Jason tells Sonny, the explosion was terrible. For Sam to think maybe her son could have been in there… He had nothing to do with anything. He dropped Danny off at the Quartermaines, and went to the hospital to talk to Britt. He had no idea what happened until he saw the alerts when he was driving over. He doesn’t know how it felt, standing in the parking lot, thinking their son was dead, waiting to see if they carried his body out. The same way he didn’t know what it was like when Morgan died. He hears Sonny and Carly talk about it, and he grieved when he found out, but he wasn’t there. He didn’t watch it happen. So Sam connected those two things – Morgan’s death could be Danny or Scout’s death – and she doesn’t want that. She’s not wrong.

Carly tells Sam, it’s a big decision, and she knows it cost a lot. Sam says, nothing means more to her than her kids. Standing in The Floating Rib parking lot, not knowing Danny’s condition… Carly says, torture, and Sam says she didn’t want the last memory of her son to be his baseball cap. She wants to watch her kids breathe, grow, and make beautiful lives for themselves. Because of that, it means she can’t be with Jason.

Sam tells Carly, she had no idea what she said. It all came tumbling out; the regret, the fear, all of it. Carly says she knows; Jason just stood there took it. Sam says, yeah. Part of her wanted him to fight for her so bad. To come up with a miraculous loophole where he could still work for Sonny, but keep them safe. She knows it doesn’t exist, and she can’t keep pretending it does.

Sonny says he’s sorry. He can see how bad Jason is hurting, but he’s not surprised. Something changed in Sam that night. Jason says he didn’t see it. He was caught up in everything else, and didn’t realize. Sonny says, he was blindsided, and Jason says that’s why he was late. He was on his way out, when Sam stopped him, and asked him not to come back. He was standing there listening about her fears, and how it’s not the life she wanted for Danny and Scout. He wanted to comfort her, but he couldn’t. He wanted to fight it, but he said he wouldn’t. All he could hear in his head was that he let this happen. He bangs the steering wheel, and says, he let this happen. He knew better. He knew he never should be a father.

The woman lets Julian in, and he says no one has called him Charlie in a long time. She says Kim showed her pictures, and told her how he helped her through her son’s terrible death. He says he wishes he could have done more, and she says, the way Kim talks, he did plenty. He asks how Kim is, and she says Kim never got over losing Oscar, but she was able to pick up the pieces. She got a job at the hospital. She’s going to be surprised to find him there. Julian says, it’s a surprise to him too.

Ava says she can’t believe Nikolas chose now to throw the post-nup in her face, but he says he’s giving it to her to  destroy it. She asks why he didn’t say so, and he asks if she’d like to do the honors. She tears it up, and throws it on the table. They toast to love, and she says how good it is to get rid of it. He says, one less threat to their happiness. They only have to take care of one more.

Tracy tells Alexis that she and Luke started a promising enterprise in Amsterdam, and they need a good lawyer. Alexis says she lost her license, and Tracy asks if that means she lost her knowledge and experience. Alexis says, no, and Tracy says, it pays well, and Amsterdam is a beautiful part of the world. Alexis can start over. She’s offering Alexis an opportunity. Alexis says it doesn’t sound appealing.

Dante tells Olivia, his gut is telling him to take Rocco home, but he’s worried about it. He’s pretty much a stranger to his own son. He hasn’t been there, and Rocco doesn’t know him. He’s comfortable at the Quartermaine’s, and Leo is there. If he hadn’t left, and this didn’t happen, and Lulu and Rocco had been secure with him, this wouldn’t be the case. Olivia asks if he really believes that, and Dante says he sees it in Rocco’s eyes and body language. Rocco knows Dante is his dad, but he doesn’t feel the way should feel, and Lulu isn’t there to bridge the gap. He needs help knowing what to do with his son.

Franco tells Kirk, he’s read the file now. Most of his life he was a seriously messed up person who did seriously messed up things. When the tumor was removed, all that disappeared, and his impulses were gone. Kirk says, so he’s thinking now that the tumor is back, they’ll return? Franco says he’s terrified, and Kirk says, they’ll take it as it comes, but he’s convinced he can help.

Obrecht tells Scotty to keep it to himself and calls him a dummkopf. She says his only redeeming quality is that his son is an amazing human being. He says Franco  thinks she’s as guilty as he does, but she says, once she explains the truth, Franco will see the light. Franco comes out, and says he’s all ears.

Obrecht tells Franco and Scotty, she’s been exonerated, but the person who framed her is out there. If they know she’s free, they’ll cover their tracks. She’s staying there until they can obtain proof. Please, tell no one. Kirk says he hates to break up this reunion, but he needs a word with Obrecht. He’ll see Franco tomorrow. Kirk and Obrecht go into the office, and Scotty says, unbelievable. Franco says, yeah, and Scotty says, wait a minute, mister. He’s not buying that hogwash, is he?

Olivia tells Dante she’s sorry. Without even realizing it, she’s been running interference between him and Rocco. She thought she was making it easier, but in doing grandma stuff, she thinks she built a wall. He says, that’s not what the conversation is about. She’s been his touchstone, and he’s grateful. She says she gets it, but thinks maybe Dante needs to be Rocco’s touchstone. It’s the only way they can build a bond. They’ll struggle through it, day by day. As much as she loves having him there, maybe it’s best if he takes Rocco home.

Alexis asks, what’s gotten into Tracy? She dragged Alexis over there, now she’s begging her to pack up and move to Amsterdam. Tracy says Alexis isn’t hearing begging. She’s doing this for her. Alexis laughs, and Tracy asks, what’s funny? Alexis says Tracy doesn’t do anything for anyone, unless it’s a Quartermaine. This is about her and Ned, isn’t it?

Nikolas and Ava stand by Ryan’s bedside, and Ava says, it’s over. Ryan is never going to threaten, blackmail, or manipulate her again. Sonny knows everything, and Julian is dead. He jumped to his death before she could kill him. She only wishes she’d killed Ryan a long time ago.

Julian tells the woman, he was hoping to reconnect with Kim. Let her know he’ll never forget her. She says, it sounds final, and he says he came to say goodbye. Crying comes from another room, and Julian asks if there’s a baby there.

Jason says, he got together with Sam in the beginning because she was pregnant with Sonny’s baby. Looking back, he knows he stepped up for Sam and the baby, but he was also doing for Sonny. Sonny and Carly had just gotten back together, and he wanted them to stay together, for all their sakes. They were his family, and there was no possibility of him turning his back on Sonny, and going away to have something separate with Sam. He knew that about himself, which was why, when Sam wanted to have kids, he should have fought against it. He should have been stronger. He tried for a long time, but he loved Sam so much, and she wanted it so bad. He doesn’t regret Danny exists; he loves Danny. Sonny says he knows, and Jason says he’s proud of Danny. He sees parts of him and Sam in Danny, and would never undo that. Sonny says Jason would die for his son, and Jason says, but now Danny is having his life ripped apart, and let’s be real. It’s on me.

Ava tells Nikolas, there’s nothing there that can hurt them anymore, but Nikolas thinks they should make absolutely sure. He picks up a pillow, and Felix walks in. Felix asks what they’re doing there, and Ava says, just checking on Ryan. They were making sure he was under guard, but there’s no security. (Funny. I’ve been saying that about GH for years.) Felix says, if Ryan regains consciousness, he guarantees there will be guards all over the place. Ava asks if there’s been any change, but Felix says, no. Nikolas asks about the prognosis. If he wakes up, will he be functional? Felix says he’s not allowed to say, but for what it’s worth, he hopes Ryan doesn’t remember his name for what he did to Kiki. He still misses her. Ava thanks him, and says she does too. Felix leaves, and Ava asks if Nikolas was really going to kill Ryan. Nikolas says, no. They were going to do it together. They walk out, and Ryan moves his index finger, and his eyelids flutter.

Scotty tells Franco that he wouldn’t trust Obrecht as far as he could throw her. Dr. Kirk too. Franco says Dr. Kirk is going to help him, and stop the voice in his head.

Kirk says Obrecht took a big risk allowing them to see her. She says it wasn’t her intention, but it happened. He says, it did, but they mustn’t let it interfere with their time together. He sent the staff home, and they’re alone. They can finally be together now. He grabs her, and dips her over his desk.

Olivia tells Dante that he and Rocco should be having this conversation. They’re missing Lulu, and they need each other. He says he wants to be able to make it okay for his son, but he doesn’t know how. She says he won’t until he actually does it. Dante asks if she doesn’t think Rocco will balk at the suggestion, but she says he’s not moving to New Zealand. It’s Rocco’s childhood home, and holds his memories. Rocco can still spend three nights a week at grandma’s house, and play with Leo. They need to get him on a schedule.

Alexis says Tracy knows she and Ned slept together. Tracy says, what?! and Alexis says, knock it off. It was stupid, drunk, and one night; it didn’t mean anything, but Olivia should know. Tracy says Alexis isn’t going to tell her… and Alexis says she has no intention of breaking up their marriage. Tracy says, but she’s drinking. That could lead to loose lips, misjudgments, and blackouts. Is Alexis going to tell her that’s never happened?  Alexis says, go to hell. She’s going home. Tracy says she’ll drive her, but Alexis says, unfortunately she’s not drunk. Tracy says, really? and Alexis says, fine. She’ll come back to get her car tomorrow. Tracy says she’s driving Alexis’s car, and won’t take no for an answer. Fork them over. Alexis gives Tracy her keys, and says, in that case… and chugs the rest of her drink.

Carly says she knew Sam was scared, but had no idea she felt this way. Sam says she didn’t either, but she’s had moments in the last couple of days where it hit her so hard. Last night, Jason had to leave, and Danny was really disappointed. They sat down and had a conversation. They talked about feelings, and Danny told her that he was upset when Jason would leave, and he didn’t know when Jason was coming back. He told her that he hated having guards, and the thing that really broke her heart was when he said he couldn’t have friends over because their parents were afraid of Jason. Danny shouldn’t have to deal with that; Scout either. So that means their life with Jason is over. It’s not Jason’s fault; he’s who he is, and never pretended to be otherwise. Carly says, Jason hasn’t changed, but you have.

Jason says he was surprised at the timing, but not that it happened. He’s known all along there was a chance Sam would reach a point where it didn’t make sense for her; all the risks she’d take for herself, she can’t take for Danny and Scout. At that point, he wanted to say he was leaving the business, and taking them somewhere safe, but he can’t do that. It’s not him. If he left, and something happened to Sonny and his family, he couldn’t live with that. So his only choice is to do what Sam wants, and she wants them to be over. He sighs.

Julian looks at a photo of a baby. The woman comes out, and says, it’s all good now. He just needed a fresh diaper. Julian asks if he’s her son, and she laughs. She says, no. She’s the nanny. It’s Kim’s baby.

Dante thanks Olivia for helping him make sense of this, and coming up with a plan. More important, he thanks her for coming to Geneva. It’s the reason he turned a corner; hearing her on the other side of the door, refusing to give up. She tells him, get used to it. She’ll never give up. She knows the kind of man he is. She sees how he struggles every day, and keeps showing up struggling. It’s all they can ask, that he keep doing his best. She loves him so much, and she’s so proud of him. He says he loves her too.

Alexis says she gets Tracy wanting her son to be happy; Ned is a good man. Tracy says, that he is, and Alexis says she told Ned to tell her. Tracy says, what? and Alexis says she told Ned to tell Olivia. Things have a way of coming out anyway. She feels bad about what she did, and for Olivia. Her husband cheated on her, and she doesn’t deserve it. Somebody ought to tell her. Tracy gives Alexis a look.

Sam tells Carly, she’s envisioning a bright future for her kids. It’s what she wants and knows it’s right, but it comes at the price of losing an incredible man she loves so much. She guesses that’s what happens when you grow up and become a parent. You put the kids first, rather than following your own heart. She’s sorry if she said anything offensive, but Carly says she didn’t. They’re very different people from different circumstances, and the choices they make will be different. Sam is doing what she thinks is right for her family, like Carly is doing what she thinks is right for hers.

Sonny asks if Jason thinks Sam is doing the right thing, and Jason says, he told her as much. They’re adults, and they’ll be okay, but the people whose lives are upended are Danny and Scout. No explanation can change the fact that they’re losing their family. Sonny was damaged by his father, and never really healed until he was grown, and Mike just passed away. He doesn’t want that for Danny and Scout, but he doesn’t know how to stop it from happening. Sonny says there’s a big difference between Jason and his dad. His dad ran away; Jason isn’t doing that. It’s hard on Danny and Scout, but they’ll know he acted in honor. They might not know now, but as they get older, they’ll know it meant something. Jason’s phone rings, and he says, it’s Spinelli. He must have information. Jason answers, and asks what Spinelli’s got.

The nanny says, Kim never told Julian she was pregnant? She knew before she left Port Charles. He says they weren’t exactly on the best terms, and asks the baby’s name. She says, Andrew, but they call him Andy.

Franco tells Scotty that Kirk thinks the voice is a leftover memory of Drew’s. Better than that, he thinks he can fix it. Scotty says, that would be great, and Franco says, but…? Scotty says he thinks they have an agenda, and he intends to find out what it is.

Obrecht says, consummating their relationship in Kirk’s office wasn’t the romance she imagined. He says any way they’re together is perfect. She says, it’s not, and he says, she claims to love him, but her actions show him otherwise. He thinks she’s using him to get what she wants. She says what she wants is her freedom. To force her to do sexual favors for it is disgusting. He couldn’t handle a woman like her. He picks up the phone, and says he’s sounding the alarm. Anna needs to know Dante is coming for her and her son. Obrecht puts a pocket knife to his throat, and tells him to put the phone down.

Franco calls Elizabeth, and says he has good news. In the office, Obrecht and Kirk struggle, and Scotty walks in. He asks, what’s going on? and punches Kirk in the face. Kirk falls on the knife. Oops.

The nanny says, it might be a while until Kim is home, and asks if Julian wants to leave a note. An alarm goes off, and Julian asks, what the hell is that? She says, the fire alarm, and he asks if she was expecting a drill. She says she doesn’t know, but to be safe, they should get out of there. In the hallway, Jason hides.

Scotty tells Obrecht, it was a small blade. He’ll be okay, right? She says, wrong. He’s dead.

Olivia tells Dante, it’s so sad to see people buckle. Like Alexis. She’s an admirable woman, but she’s been spewing hate. Dante says he was talking to her earlier, and Olivia tells him, try not to take on her poison. Alexis was drunk, and implying there was something she knew about Olivia’s marriage that Ned wasn’t telling her. Dante says, she has no idea what Alexis was talking about? and she says, no clue.

Alexis is behind the wheel of the car, unconscious. Tracy says, there are those say she’s questionable as a mother. They might be right, but Olivia is the best thing that’s happened to Ned. She refuses to let one mistake ruin his marriage. Since she can’t trust Alexis to keep her mouth shut, she’s doing what she needs to. She gets out of the car.

Nikolas looks in on Ryan, and tells Ava, no signs of life. They’ll make a plan to be free once and for all. Is she sure about this? He should have been there for her when she confronted her brother. When it comes to Ryan, he will be.

We see Ryan’s eyes are open.

The nanny leaves the apartment, and when she’s gone, Jason comes out. On the phone, Jason tells Sonny, a woman just left, but it wasn’t Kim. He’s going in. He draws his gun, and kicks the door open, but the apartment is empty.

Carly says Sam seems at peace with her decision, and Sam says she is. Carly thinks that means she made the right one. She has to say she’s sorry it’s come to this for all of them, and Sam says she’s sorry too. She thanks Carly, and Carly says she’s always there for Sam. Sam leaves, and Carly looks like she’s in pain. She calls Jason, and says she just wants him to know that she loves him, and she’s there. Whatever he needs.

The nanny calls Kim, and says the man Kim warned her about showed up. She got rid of him. He has no idea Kim’s baby is his.

Julian jumps down into an alleyway. He starts to leave, but Sonny is there with a gun. He says, don’t run off, Jules. We have a lot to talk about.

On Monday, Maxie has some bad news, Franco wonders who’s on the other side of the door, Cyrus knew someone would see eye to eye with him, and Sonny tells Julian that the information he’s got is keeping him alive.

✂️ Dustin Deleted…

He deserved better than barely a mention.

❓ David Who…?

All about David Hamilton and why Laura killed him.

🐅 Tidbit Of the Tiger

While I was perusing Netflix to watch something for my gig athttps://mupoentertainment.com/theresa-krakauskas/, and feeling like Dory from Finding Nemo, I said, oh look! Tiger King! I’d been out of the loop when it was everyone else’s pandemic distraction, and then forgotten about it. So for the next however many hours it took, I watched the entire series, including Joel McHale’s follow-up The Tiger King and I. I’d forgotten how funny he is. If you haven’t checked this documentary out, by all means do. It’s a different kind of horror show, the entire cast reminding me of a tribe of people the Z Nation group would have come across. (And yes, I’m still bitter about Z Nation’s cancelation, and always will be.) Not since Steve Rubel opened Studio 54 have there been so many screwed up people in one place. A tragedy in the making, all I could think about was how much somebody needed to step in for the animals. The documentary of the battle royale between self-proclaimed Tiger King, Joe Exotic, and Big Cat Rescue owner, Carol Baskin – who may or may not have killed her husband and fed him to a tiger – is a horror of the reality kind. Truth is ultimately stranger than fiction. You can’t make this stuff up.

🏞 Another Good One…

Big Sky is coming up to it’s mid-winter finale (whatever that is), but you can see it all On Demand. John Carroll Lynch’s performance alone is worth the price of admission. Warning: This article will either contain spoilers or fill you in if you want to catch up quickly.

👶🏼 Watch If You Dare…

There’s no other way to say it. I Love a Mama’s Boy pisses me off. It’s one of those shows I watch with horrified fascination, wondering if these people are for real. From the mother who started crying at a toy store because her son said she couldn’t get her granddaughter an extra toy, to the full-on bitch in this article. Probably a spoiler, but it won’t matter. You will still watch with your mouth hanging open.

🏆 Presenting Adults…

Awards shows make for strange bedfellows. While I’m not into the adult film industry, I saw one of these awards shows once when it surprised me in coming on after a non-adult film I was watching late at night. Another thing I watched in horrified fascination, although it was actually pretty amusing, and definitely less offensive than Mama’s Boy.
